file explorer that gives install option? - General Questions and Answers

I had a android file explorer that when you installed an apk from the sd card it gave you an option to install to internal or external. Does anyone know of the app or any app that does this? thanks.

i dont know anay file explorer that can do that, but if you are using gingerbread you can just go to settings and apps and then move to the sd, otherwise of course just with app2sd

there is a way where you can make apps install by default on sd card, one way is you can use apps2sd application to move apps from internal memory to sd card
another easy way is rather than moving, just install it on sdcard itself

How to move Amazon MP3s to External SD?

I recently bought a 16GB card for my G2X, and I started downloading more of my music directly to the phone. The problem is, I can't seem to figure out how to move my music to the External SD. I tried to use Astro, but when I selected the Amazon MP3 folder and tried to copy it to the External SD, I got a move error.
Now that I look further, I can't seem to do SQUAT with the external SD. I see it listed in SD and phone storage, but I can't move anything to it with Apps2SD or with the native GB app manager. Am I just missing something?
Are you rooted? If so, try using a Root File Explorer, such as SUFBS or Root Explorer.
I am not. Do I really need to root to use that external SD slot?

No, but I just figured, you'd be able to have SU Access, hence, more permissions in Android to move files.
Just try a different file manager from the market. I always had trouble with Astro when moving files to the external sdcard. Anttek File Explorer and Super Manager are two good ones and they're both free.
First thing you do is unmount you external sd card in the sd card settings of the phone and then take it out right away after it says unmounte dof corse then reinstall it and wait till it is done scanning it then see if that works. If not then I would try a different card one that you know works in something else and also try that on in a different device like your pc and see if it workes there this way you can determin if the card is broken or if the phone slot is brokem and if the phone seems to be broken I would try a factory reset.
Thanks, Phburks, I tried Super Manager and that seems to be moving it just fine!

[Q] Apps in sd card Wanhu Steelblue Optimized

I recently installed this ROM and i have to say its very good! but theres this wired problem. I used titanium backup to restore some of my apps. i also downloaded some apps from the market. for apps that i restored, most of them i used link2sd to link to sd card but some (not all) of the apps that i downloaded via market are unlinkable via link2sd and it says there "on sd card" instead of the usual "linked to sd card". i used root explorer and found out that these apps were located in "/mnt/asec". while those linked with link2sd were linked elsewhere (eg:apk:"data/app", dalvik cache:"data/dalvik-cache/[email protected]@@[email protected]", lib:"data/data/com.something/lib/") why is this so?
any help would be appreciated!!
Those apps are using native froyo apps2sd. You should be able to go to Manage applications & move them to internal memory (assuming you have enough internal memory) & then use link2sd.
Thx for replying!! I had a suspicion that it was native froyo app2sd but now I'm sure!! Btw it doesn't require an extra partition rite? So it is just being moved to my main fat32 partition of the SD card rite? Thx for answering my noob qn!!

Yes, native froyo apps2sd apps are stored on the main fat32 in the .androidsecure folder.

[Q] Applications not installing in the external memory card in Samsung galaxy R

Hello Everyone,
I bought Samsung galaxy R (I 9103) some 10 days back. I am staying in India.I am trying to install application files directly to the external memory card but i am not able to find any option for that. The strange thing is that, the phone is using its 4gb (internal) usable memory as the SD card storage, so every time i use the option "Move to SD card" it simply moves the file to the phones USB storage. Also the memory card is shown as folder "External_SD" but no option for installing into that folder also. What i do every time is just copy the installation files from the usb storage to the memory card and use it. But this thing is also not working for every application. Can anyone provide any solution to this problem??
Thanks in Advance.....
1. Change /etc/vold.fstab file
you need ROOT access
change file in some other location with text editor or find one already fixed
replace existing file with root explorer or adb shell
reboot
2. Make a linux partition (ext4) on external SD - that could be used for link2sd or app2sd apps
and use google search - all answers already there

I think rooting the device will void the warranty and as i have bought this phone recently only so i am quite reluctant of doing that. Anyways thanks for your post...

Use the app Link2SD from play store. Requires root. And also a 2nd partition on your SD card to store apps.
There are many tools which can help you partition your SD card but to on the safe side, backup your SD card data beforehand.
Just go through the description of Link2SD on the play store. It should make things easier
But if i dont want to root the xperia?

The easiest way to partition an sd card is via clockworkmod. Advanced/partition sdcard. And choose what sixze of partition you want. This formats the sd though so backup first.

If you want to move apps without rooting, check out this post. It should help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162757
But there are some limitations when you don't root. But if you root, you can also get rid of unimportant system apps & bloatware!
Plus rooting is very simple these days thanks to one click rooting apps & brilliant devs!
Choice is yours

Not sure the if the procedure mentioned in the link above works on ICS/JB.

More memory on Android 4.4.4?

Hi everybody, I have root access on my phone but I still can't install on SD. I've read that Kit Kat has a bug that impedes the correct use of the SD card. I tried a solution I've seen on this forum about installing big games on SD but I'd like to just transfer some apps I have like Chrome, for example. It takes up more than 100MB.
Do you know of any way of getting this done?
As u have root access, you can use app like link2sd, it can move any app to external sd, but use it wisely, moving some system app can cause FC..
Also u can use xposed framework and install the module named "kitkat sd card full access" which will solve the android 4.4.4's write issue to sd card..
I've installed the module and rebooted my phone but if I try to set the default install location to the SD card it doesn't change. I use ROM toolbox lite that gives you the possibility to change it using Apps2SD but I can only leave it to "Auto".
