hey guys, ive been searching and searching for answers but cant find any. I recently came across the post about how to upgrade my cellular souths samsung galaxy s showcase 2.1 update 1, to 2.2 froyo. but i couldnt find any files to download them, so i went to another site and found instructions and files to do everything with odin. but i failed to realize that i was installing the samsung i9000 files. now my phone will not turn on. it only will allow me to go back to the download mode. which, im sure i can correct my problem with the right files. can anyone please pm me or help me with the right files i need to use in odin to fix my problem. i have the samsung galaxy s schi500 showcase (was using 2.1update1) when i tried updating. From Cellular South, non rooted.Trying to either A. get back to 2.1 or best case scenerio get to 2.2

Dear Friends,
I happened to have a perfectly working rooted SGS running JPK on Froyo until a while ago. When I tried installing fonts with typefresh. This is where everything went haywire. The phone now doesn't want to boot. It says SGS I9000 and vibrates there 4 times and repeats the vibrating cycle. I want the phone to be working again else my mother will murder me. I tried going to the recovery mode and tried to do a factory restore but that didn't help. Tried to reflash the custom ROM I downloaded from this site (can't find that link) using ODIN but it doesn't work either. While reflashing I did not check the repartition tab. What are the possible solutions here?? KIES doesn't detect phone in download mode. Is there any link from where I can download the factory shipped froyo rom and try reflashing the same via ODIN.
Guys please help it has now turned into a Black Screen Of Death. Though I can still go back to Download mode....please help guys this is getting from bad to worse....
Update: The phone now only goes to download mode...
BUMP! Please guys a few hours before mom comes home from work...
Try flashing a 2.1 firmware with Odin.
Google samfirmware.
Sent from my GT-I5700 using XDA App
You could also try flashing
Froyo that does not brick
and then flash to JI6
EDIT:
Do you have the drivers set up for your device?
Also, What device are you using? The SGS line has many phones. My advice above was dependent on it being a Vibrant
Yes I do have the drivers for my device. I'll be trying 2.1 in a while. What are the chances of Samsung giving me a replacement for the device??
I live in India. We don't get the Vibrant here. It's just plain old Samsung Galaxy S GTi9000

If you can reach download mode, find you favorite firmware in one of the guides on XDA, and using Odin flash it.
If you know what firmware you were on, you can also just reflash the PDA file of that firmware. The PDA file is Packages inside the rar file you download from samfirmware.com
Best thing is to find a guide, and follow it.
I'd JPK before things went haywire. I'm wondering what's the difference between JPK and JPM. Which one should I go for??
I'm planning to flash to JM8 then doing either JPK/JPM. Is this fine?? Or should I directly flash with JPK/M and forget about JM8? Which one is better K or M? Anything else I need to be aware of before I take the plunge??

Hey pal.
It really doesn't matter which firmware you flash. Over the time, I realized that what works for one does not necessarily work for the other. It really is a very subjective thing.
Between JPK and JPM, the later (JPM) is the latest release. If froyo excites you, go for either JPM or even JP6 (JP6 being a day newer than JPM and recommended i suppose). If eclair suits your use, I would suggest JM9

It really is not difficult flashing firmwares on the i9000. Just follow the instructions from the thread to the dot and you are all set to go. In the same breath, I would also go as far to suggest that you stay away from custom ROM's till you get familiar with the process of flashing ROM's and troubleshooting (in case anything goes wrong). Stick to the stock ROM's and you should be good to begin with.
Do update on your progress.
Cheers.....
Fixed it. Flashed JPK everything working now! Thanks for all the tips and inputs!
I'm sorry about this post. Because I have less than 10 posts the forum won't let me post in a development forum so I have to post here.
I'm really new at this so please bear with me.
Earlier tonight I rooted my Galaxy S ii with SuperOneClick and installed clockwork and tried to put the cyanogen equivalent of ICS on it... Boot loop. So my friend told me if I flashed litening 6.1 on to it it would fix it.... The boot loop continues. I read the sticky on boot loops and got up to the point where it said to install a stock rom. I went looking for a stock rom and I can't find one with a letter code for canada. I'm scared that if I download the wrong stock rom for the wrong country that I a) won't be able to use my phone or b) everything will be in polish or something. Obviously I'm stuck in a loop so I can't do *#1234# to figure out what I need to do.
Also, I was looking at 3 file installs and in odin I see Bootloader, PDA, CSC and PHONE but nothing about a modem. I'm sorry if this is a silly question but I looked in the wiki and everywhere and I don't know which one of these fields I'm supposed to enter the modem file in. I have both Odin 1.85 and 4.03 on my computer and neither have anywhere that says "modem"
I feel so dumb... Sorry.
I have a GT-i9100M with Bell mobility.
EDIT: I managed to flash Litening 6.1 on to the phone... Can someone let me know of a good Ice Cream Sandwich lookalike?
I was tryin to root my samsung captivate on 2.3.5 gingerbread software when i accidently unplugged the usb chord it was stuck and wouldnt go into download mode when i tryed everything i decided to try and download the root and it finally worked but only a little it goes to world phone atnt and has galaxy startup but one i havnt seen it says samsung 19000 and then continues to go back and forth between the two it will get in download mode and recover mode but i just want my regular software back can anyone help??
First of all, the I9000 is the Galaxy S, not the Captivate. You can't (generally) put firmware from one phone onto another (I've NEVER heard of that, anyway).
You need to go back to the start by flashing a stock ROM and getting your phone back to working order. You can do that by going here...

I'd strongly recommend that you spend some time reading the sticky threads in the development and Q&A forums as they will have answers to most questions like this.
Good luck
i tryed that and with all the options one im not to sure what to do but regardless it will still go into download mode but now it will only go to a white screen saying atnt world phone i am so screwed i have no clue what to do
hey i figured it all out thanks for the help!

Glad you got it sorted mate. Most of the answers you need are already here - you just need to know where and how to find them
i have downloaded the android 4 I727UCALC4 leak from wiki and i have a few questions before i try it that i hope someone who has tried the leaked update can answer.
1. will the update slow my phone down? i had a captivate and went from 2.2 to 2.3 and it slowed the phone bad and did not want that to happen to this phone.
2. if i update will i still be able to connect to kies mini.
3. and if i can connect to kies mini and do not like the update can i use it to restore my phone back to the way it is now with gingerbread 2.3.5? and if not how can i restore it back if i wanted to?
4. and last has anyone had any problems at all with this leaked update. anything missing or not working.
sorry for so many questions but its better to be informed before hand than sorry afterward, so any and all info anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.
oh and what about this new flash counter crap that keeps track of how many times i flash my rom and can i get around that.....
Wrong forums, this is for i777.

Hello,
Totally new to this Forum, and to the idea of rooting/unlocking phones at home. Hopefully someone can help or provide guidance. I'm sorry, I'm sure this answer comes up somewhere on here, but I have not searched.
Here is my predicament.
I got a new phone, and was going to try to root/unlock my old phone (Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant i9000M) for my GF's daughter.
So...I downloaded Odin 1.3 and ran the instructions as I found them on another site. They supplied the link to a *.tar file that would root the phone. After I ran that, the phone would power on...but not pass the Splash screen. When it boots the i9000M turns to i9000 and the lights on the front of the phone flash..and it stays on that screen.
I downloaded a different version of Odin (1.85), a new tar (CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPY-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1) and pit (s1_odin_20100512) files. I've run all of those...and now the phone will not power at all. If I run into Download mode...it works.
Thoughts?
Is this phone able to be saved...or should I just take it with me to hockey tonight and practice shooting with it.
I got it all to work...after much reading and searching, I found the original Stock ROMS to bring me back to factory, then properly flashed and unlocked, got the SIM to work and even figured out how to set up the APN for internet access via the phone service....initially I only had it working on wifi.
A new question. Is an unlocked i900M (Bell) the same as any other i9000? I want to upgrade her past Froyo 2.2, because her app/game selection is rather limited. Everything I am finding references i9000...and doesn't say with it is a Gingerbread upgrade for a stock phone, or unlocked phone.
I apologize if these are noob questions, but I've never done this before.
Any help.guidance would be appreciated.
Matt
