[Q] Missing Update.zip file - Captivate General

I have a Captivate with FROYO.UCKB1 kernel 2.6.32.9 firmware version 2.2 that will not do a factory re-install. What is the easiest way to correct this? The attached picture shows the message. I suspect it was caused by an unsuccessful rooting attempt. I have no problems going back to 2.1 and then doing an mini keis update to 2.2.
Thank you,
Frank

FFS dude did you even attempt a search? this has been beaten to DEATH
and its even a sticky in this very section!!!

[Q] Samsung Kies "Device not Supported" error

I plugged my phone up to KIES yesterday, to find that there was an update available. I'm not sure what update it was, but I'm almost certain it was a phone upgrade, possibly 2.2. KIES began downloading the update, and did so successfully. However, after doing the download, and upon starting the next step, my phone was no longer visible. I got the "searching for device" which stay like that forever. So, I closed down KIES, restarted my computer, and the phone. Once I did this, and went started KIES up again, I now recieved a "Device not supported" error. For this reason, I think it may have been a KIES update. However, I"m not sure what kind of update it was. I did a system restore to about 2 weeks ago, and it says I have KIES version 1.5.2.10093. I tried plugging my phone up again, and at first it went to "Searching for device" but after a few seconds said, "Device not supported."
Phone INFO:
Model Number: SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: I897UCJH7
Kernel version: 2.6.29
jeteak.lee sep-11 #2
Build Number: ECLAIR.UCJH7
Is anyone else having this issue, or is there a known issue to counter this?
Thanks for you help.
I'm having this issue also. I'm using the latest build of cognition w/ a restored ID. My KIES would recognize the device until I just updated the KIES program a few minutes ago.
Okay, so it must be Kies then... i read in another forum that someone believed Samsung altered the program so that US residents couldn't update to 2.2 early.... someone also said they installed an earlier version of KIES after installing the new update, and Kies was once again able to "support" the device... Any ways around doing this, or is it a known issue?

Yea I'd like to revert back to the previous build.
Maybe a Reg Hack for the new ver of Kies would allow it to support the device. Anybody familiar with what might do that?
So after some more digging... i found an interesting thing. When I connect my phone in media mode and/or mass storage mode, KIES recognized my phone... however, once my interest to to KIES mode, same old "device not supported"... however, you can't do anything in the other two modes. Someone else posted that Samsung had told them Kies won't recognize the device until 2.2...

Uploading an older installer now, will edit and post a URL when it's done.
Edit to add: Here it is.
I hope this helps.
A thread about this was already ongoing. Also a upload of the older version of kies in that tread.

Stock 2.2

OK fellas, I have a brand new Captivate. Build is 1102. The phone shipped with 2.2. I bricked the first one so bad I had no choice but to replace it. The second one was almost to that point before I got Odin 3-click to get back to stock 2.1 update 1. Now I'm trying to get back to stock 2.2 and I can't seem to find anything relating on how to do that from my situation. I have literally been up for 38 hours working on this. Took me the first 24 just to get 2.1 on it. I am really stuck here. If anyone has a tool, or a guide, or a hint or a .9mm that can get 2.2 on my phone, please throw me a freaking bone...
Thanks in advance
up for 36 hours isnt going to help.
go get some sleep. come back later.
wait...
you are on your 3rd cappy and still dont know what to do?
Wait so it came with 2.2 you used odin to go to 2.1 and now you wanna go back to where you started?
Ummm ... have you tried kies mini?
When I couldn't use Kies Mini to update my phone from Eclair, I used ODIN 3 (not one click) to upgrade to Froyo - using the image found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11526718&postcount=1
My build is 1011

Im on my second Captivate. I was actually able to bring it back from brick by building a jig.
@studacris::: It came with 2.2, i flashed a custom rom which was giving me problems, tried flashing back and it failed leaving me with a brick. Built a jig and flashed odin 3-click which put 2.1 on it. I tried to use mini kies but it says my phones firmware is unregistered and will not let me update it...

turn on usb debugging before you connect it to kies
i have not tried the following link but I saved the file just in case I needed it. According to the post that I download the file from, it said its supposed to take you back to JI6:
download here
just be careful because I did not test this file myself
Use the jf6(2.1) odin one click and then there is a file you can use in the odin standalone to get you to kb1(2.2).

Please push *2767*4387264636# or download SGS Tools and select the second option in the Secret Codes section. This will output your product code. If it says anything other than SGH-I897ZKAATT, your product code has probably been tainted, which causes the Kies "unregistered device" error.
The reason this always happened for me is that the product code was changed by the custom ROM. If you do not have a backup of your EFS partition, then correcting this will require a hex editor. I used the method described here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880223 . Messing around with EFS is inadvisable unless you know perfectly what you are doing. (Trust me on this as Sammy has my first phone for this reason alone.) It wont hurt anything to have an incorrect product code, aside from not being able to update to new software through Kies, but if you mess up anything inside of the file that is edited during the process in the forum link listed above, your radio firmware won't know what its own IMEI is. This can cause your phone to stop functioning as a phone.
The first thing that you should do before flashing any ROM is to backup EFS. There is a method for that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859914 . I backed up EFS using every backup method described there (there are two or three I think), then I copied those backups to every thumb drive and storage device I have. I always have restored using the "tarball" method and have used Kies to get back to 2.2 about 20 times without the "unregistered device" issue.
So the most important question is - Do you have a backup of your EFS? (please say yes) If so, then it is just as simple as restoring EFS.
Another possibility if your redneck.nerdishness extends to Linux usage is to use Heimdall for your Froyo upgrade. I used that on my phone when Kies mini was failing on me. Search for Heimdall in the Captivate and standard Galaxy S forums, then follow the instructions to use it with the stock update.zip file linked in the forums.

[Q] Probly and oldy but still need help

Yes I super one clicked, and odin to intall an unrooted version via the facebook Mesmerize fan page so im rooted.
Phone is now running firmware 2.3.4 Kernel 2.6.35.7, and eho9
All I want to do is change my Sounds and animations at start up and shut down and Every program I get does not allow me to edit the rootfiles. I have all the files I need just cant get them in the right place.
Maybe on a related note, the CWM update.zip gets the signature failure as i have seen soo soo much on here. none of the so called fixes work. manually through oden or through cwm direstly.
Any input or am I going to have to dump this turd and get another carrier?

[q] i727ucalc4 ice cream sandwich leak

i have downloaded the android 4 I727UCALC4 leak from wiki and i have a few questions before i try it that i hope someone who has tried the leaked update can answer.

2. if i update will i still be able to connect to kies mini.
3. and if i can connect to kies mini and do not like the update can i use it to restore my phone back to the way it is now with gingerbread 2.3.5? and if not how can i restore it back if i wanted to?
4. and last has anyone had any problems at all with this leaked update. anything missing or not working.

[Q]Go from T959VUVKC1 to T959VUVKD1?

My phone came with Froyo 2.2.1. I used kies mini to go to gingerbread 2.3.6 then i went back the first verison of froyo. My froyo is Firmware version 2.2.1, Baseband version T959VUVKC1, my kernel version 2.6.32.9 and build: FROYO.VUVKC1.
Now I want to just go to T959VUVKD1 baseband/build number. Would I be able to go to T959VUVKD1 by downloading it from Samfirmware and place the file in the PDA part of ODIN and also the CSC file or just the PDA file? Becuase now when i connect my phone to Kies mini it says device Unregistered device. I want kies to reconize my phone. Im sure its not reconizing it because is on this firmware from March 2011 and its the first one.
I just want to move up from T959VUVKC1 to T959VUVKD1 Using ODIN how could I do this?
Really no reason to open a third thread on the same topic, getting your Froyo flashed. Keeping all your narrative and the advice you've been given in one thread makes it easier for all.
