G2x "audio chip" quality? good or bad? - T-Mobile LG G2x

hello,
I was wondering whether the "audio chip" in the G2X is good or bad (in comparison to other phones, of course) also, is the DTS thing implemented in the hardware or just a software feature?

[Q] Which DAC does the Sensation use

I ask because I came from a Nexus S and got so use to the ability to have amazing sound with Voodoo Sound project, and this was because Samsung didn't take full use of the DAC that they used in the Galaxy S line of phones.
I am curious of there is a way to find out what is processing our sound so once we get S-Off and custom roms we can do some things to improve the quality and volume of the headphones and speaker.
According to Anandtech.com
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4471/htc-sensation-4g-review-a-sensational-smartphone/8
the Sensation uses TI's TLV320AIC3254, and the specs are:
http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/tlv320aic3254.html
I do notice that the sound quality thorough headphone is significantly better than my HTC Desire. Wouldn't mind if it can be improved even more.

Yep, no more hissing noise like it was on the desire.
lol, the DAC is from 2008, wonder why they are using that old hardware :s
So it doesn't look like we will be as lucky to really get alot more out of the DAC then what HTC has given us, at least hardware wise.
I think the audio codec is the same one on the Desire HD, and according to Anandtech, the camera sensor is the same too, although the image processing on the new dual-core Snapdragon is superior and thus giving better image capturing quality (and software image processing algorithm plays an important role too).
Giving how HTC rolls out new flagship device a few times a year, it probably makes sense (no punt intended) for them to change only a few components at a time.

Doesn't mean it's bad.

No ofc not i was just thinking since they have all of the other hardware up to date
But it sounds good through my headphones so i'm happy!
It's a pity it sounds bad through bluetooth though=/

Audio codecs don't change much. Mostly it comes down to power consumption. That is really a good codec. It has potential, but the codec in the galaxy s series is a much nicer one. I think we could tweak it, but we would need somebody that know how to work with drivers. We can always squeeze a little bit more out of things like audio codecs and camera software.
Yeah the Nexus S voodoo control had alot of nice options, as far as enabling the higher playback and record bitrates and sample rates. It had the option for jitter control.
Im not saying it should be the same, but anything we could do to make it better would be better, mainly the speaker volume if this could be controlled. And maybe a headphone amp

Nexus S vs Galaxy S. voodoo audio quality same?

Hello i'm a bit confused, can any one tell me does the sound quality using Voodoo is the same o both devices?
And comparing whit iPhones does any one have any opinion? I currently have GS2 but sound quality is horrible so some times on long journeys i just use iPad 2 for listening to music yes i know a bit silly such a big thing, but for short journeys i really like to listen to music from phone.
Any info about this would be really appreciated.
They use same sound hardware (Wolfson WM8994 DAC) sound quality is same

Other question still not answered: comparing Voodoo whit iPhone4/4s?
I personally haven't listened to the iPhone, but here are some comments from users at Head-fi regarding the topic:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/523884/android-vs-iphone-for-sound-quailty/15
In short, they claim the WM8994 DAC in our Nexus S is better.
Of course as with any opinions, and especially with something as subjective as audio, they should be taken with a grain of salt.
The only "real" way to know which one is better is to take measurements with various scopes, conduct impedance measurements, etc.
What headphones do you currently have/use? The audio differences between the iPhone and NS may be so subtle that your headphones will not detect the differences.

[Q] High quality audio recording possible with DS?

Dear All,
Do you know if there's any solution to record audio in high quality? I've googled a lot and searched the forums for weeks but didn't find any acceptable solution.
There are some apps on the Market advertising how great they are but every one of them has pretty poor quality comparing to my old Nokia E75 capabilities.
I also know that MIUI ROMs can do the job but I don't want to change my current ROM because of this (and I don't think if it's the only solution).
I have a rock band and I used to record our reharsals, but with Desire S I can't do it anymore... (and I've passed my E75 to my gf).
Every idea is much appreciated!
Cheers!
You say about how poor the quality is. I can't see that changing the ROM would make any real difference. Are you using the built-in microphone, or are you using an external one - as I would expect the quality to be far superior through a decnt external mic.

I'm using the built-in mic as I used the built in mic for my nokia. And I mentioned the ROM change because of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313487&highlight=audio+recording
I'd have a look online. The built-in mics are fairly well-known for being cr4p. Have a look at this test on the old Desire...

I was hoping that there is a sw solution for this. Thanks anyway!

aptx

hey! is the aptx codec enabled automatically on the htc one s? ie. it will automatically choose aptx when the receiving device supports it? cheers, thomas
I've tried to test this myself at a friends house with some ZiiSound D5X speakers, and subjectively there was a bit better audio quality compared to an A2DP-only HTC Desire. Hard to tell though might be Beats "improvements" that we heard rather than any difference due to Apt-X. Is there a way to even see when Apt-X is active?

Audio DAC

Hi!
I've been thinking about buying an external DAC for some time to improve the sound coming out of the P30 with headphones. I had several options via Bluetooth in "receiver mode": for example the FIIO BTR3 or the Shanling M0. (I'm not sure that any of these devices will work via USB C with the P30, maybe they will.)
My question is, since the P30 has analog audio output unlike the P30 Pro, in addition to Dolby Atmos, I understand that it must have an internal DAC. Today I was testing it with a high quality FLAC and the truth is that it don't hear anything wrong with the audio output, but no matter how much I look I don't find waht internal DAC carries the P30, all specs are very generic, like "Hi-Fi Dac", but nothing concrete.
Does anyone know what DAC carries? And the most important thing: will I improve the sound with some of these external DACS of low range or they are not worth it?
Thank you, regards.
The only info I have seen so far is on GSMArena, where they report "32-bit/384kHz audio". I don't think anyone has published what DAC was actually used (assuming it's not built in the Kirin 980 itself).

No, I'm pretty sure that Kirin 980 doesn't have an integrated DAC, not even the 970 had it, so the P20, P20 Pro and P30 Pro don't have analog output. If the P30 does, it's because it has its own DAC. The 960 did have a DAC and it is specified in the documentation.
"32-bit/384kHz audio", although it won't give us information about audio quality, it is very good numbers in terms of ability to handle files with that density. It's strange...
I'll keep investigating. I think it should have a good DAC, but I'm surprised that if it did, Huawei's marketing department wouldn't have taken advantage of this, instead, it seems like a secret subject.
Thanks.
