[Q] working on rtsp from VLC for a week still stuck - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I have been working on developing an a very simple app that plays a video rtsp stream from VLC And have been very stuck after a week I thought it might be time to call it quits but first thought I would post my problem:
I saw on the android dev site that it supports
RTSP (RTP, SDP)
HTTP progressive streaming
Video Encoding Recommendations
Video resolution 176 x 144 px
Video frame rate 12 fps
Video bitrate 56 Kbps
Audio codec AAC-LC
Audio channels 1 (mono)
Audio bitrate 24 Kbps

I set everything up in VLC
Stream link: (remove !'s if need for link)
ihop.!org.!edgesuite.!net/ihopkc/wls/tpr/IHOP-KC_TPR_WLS!.asx
Destonation:
RTSP -> Output: /ihop.mp4(also tried .dsp) port 5544 -> Active transcodeing checked -> video profile H.264+ACC(mp4) (and edited everything down to android's low Video Encoding Recommendations (like above))
TTL = 1
the rtsp stream works great when I open up anther VLC instance and stream the link rtsp://myip:5544/ihop.(mp4 or dsp)
but when I run it in my device (nook color w/ CM7.0.2) video viewer it says "sorry can not play this video"
sdk code:
Code:
VideoView videoView = (VideoView) findViewById(R.id.surface_view);
Uri video = Uri.parse("rtsp://192.168.1.88:5544/ihop.mp4");
videoView.setVideoURI(video);
videoView.start();
I am able to run audio stream from vlc to android and also ping my ip in terminal emulator so i know its not a connection error
Any ideas on what im doing wrong or on how to get this to work?
the only thing left that I haven't tried is Darwin streaming server on mac( tried it on windows 7) and would need to fix my hackintosh to do this.
Any Help is very appreciated
THANK YOU!!!

[Q] Watching Videos?!

hi, anyone watch movies and that on thier phone? just wondering what the optimum video size would be to get a good picture and make it less flickery! and the best programs to use to convert the size of the movie?
Cheers
Hon
anyone?? surely someone must know??
Streaming or stored video files, basically you can use the same parameters and the same tools. I describe streaming only.
Use VLC to stream the video via Wifi or Edge to your phone.
An excellent client is Coreplayer (only 20 bucks)
On VLC set transcoding params like this:
video codec: mpeg4 (alternatively you could use h264)
video bitrate: 300-400kbs (wifi) ; 100-200kbs (edge)
resolution 320x240
audio codec: mp3
audio bitrate: 48-64kbs
container: ts (transport stream)
VLC can stream everything including live TV from TV/Sat cards and also from settop boxes.
If you wonna play files from memstick transcode your videos to files with the wifi parameters.
i used TCPMP with my vox oc'd to 252mhz
it can play most videos stored on my mSD (tv. eps and things of that sort) without having to convert
if i do need to convert, just make sure it's at 320x240
sorry i didnt specify, it is stored movies. cheers
A friend is considering this phone as an upgrade and I'm also interested in finding out about how good video playback on this phone works. Can you install freeware codec packs to support DivX, Xvid and all the other common formats on it like you can with the bigger PDA-style phones? Is its CPU speed enough for it to decode the videos without stutter? Is its built-in player good enough or would I need a third-party app?
I tried it. I think the optimum is Divx or Mpeg4, 320*240 and 512 kbit/s with 44 khz stereo audio. It can be played more than 100 % speed. (TCPMP benchmark).

Depends. If you don't use H/264 / AVC, then, it'll work just great. With AVC, you'll need to stick to CorePlayer and not even then will you 100% frame rate with higher bit rates / resolutions.
I did a tutorial on this
search for "Video Recoding Tutorial - Video Settings" in this forum

HTC-Streaming Video and Quicktime video server

when I try to connect my iPaq with mobile 5 and the HTC Streaming Video to a MPEG4 encoder from Mavix with RTP/RTSP i see very good video.
However when I try to connect to a Quicktime Server on a PC i get the message Media File Type not Supported.
Any one ??

[Q] http streaming video android 2.2

so i have been breaking my head on howto get my videolan to stream http streams to my android 2.2 desire
i can get the the RTSP streaming(udp) to work but not http witch is required if you have to route over the internet since the implementation in videolan is only RTSP udp
now i read somewhere on google that http streaming is not supported in android
is that true? and is there no plans on including it ?
What are you trying to stream? Format? COdec? Bitrate?
everything i can tv, movies and so on
right now i use MPEG4 video and MPGE4 audio and it works with RTSP but i would love to have the http streaming protocol aswell so i can route the traffic over the internet
bump.. no nothing ?

[Q] Streaming Webcam to Android using VLC

Hi,
I am working on developing an app in which one of its features includes receiving a video stream from a webcam and displaying it through a videoView. I've been able to stream video before using VLC, but can't seem to get it working with my Android App.
In VLC, after choosing my webcam as the video source to stream, I choose http stream, and for transcoding I choose MP4 for encapsulation and H-264 as the video codec. (I believe these are the formats supported by Android) the generated stream output string is as follows:
:sout=#transcode{vcodec=h264,vb=800,scale=1,acodec=none}:http{mux=ffmpeg{mux=flv},dst=:8080/} :sout-keep
now on the android side, inside the onCreate method, my code looks like this:
mVideo = (VideoView) findViewById(R.id.videoView1);
MediaController mc = new MediaController(this);
mc.setMediaPlayer(mVideo);
mVideo.setMediaController(mc);
mVideo.setVideoPath("my_ipaddress:8080");
mVideo.requestFocus();
mVideo.start();
I am able to go on a different computer and capture the stream using VLC, but when I run the app on my Android device, I get a message that tells me the video can't be played. Not sure where the issue is, and I've been able to find a few similar post on here and on other forums, but still haven't found a solution that works for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

[Resolved] Low sampling rate compatibility issue on Android 4.4.2

I have a number of old Canon camera MJpeg movies. MX Player plays them flawlessly on my Defy (cm7 android 2.3.7) and on Sony lt22i (stock android 4.1.2) but on my HTC One (M7 stock android 4.4.2) they have no sound and the sound track cannot be selected. The sound tracks are recorded in 11024hz 8-bit PCM. I tried software decoding but it didn't work either.
I have a MJpeg movie sample file here.

Edit:
I have checked your file. I can reproduce the issue. In HW mode It can play audio. But, not getting any video since it's not nativity supported. But, In SW mode video playback is smooth. But, unable to select the audio track. That's why audio is not played. Otherwise ffmpeg can play the same. I have checked with the other ffmpeg based players & it's working fine.

You must have mistaken it with another movie file. My sample file is a mjpeg movie with pcm 8-bit 11024hz audio. Yes the sampling rate is the strange 11024.
If I convert its audio part to aac 11025hz, it plays well.

It seems that the issue appears only with kitkat. I have tried in my ACE with 2.3.6. There is no problem at all. But, It appears in S5 with 4.4.2. Something is broken.
I have attached the logcat collected using adb.
@bleu8888
Can you look at this issue

Question, could this be related to the HTC One issue we identified more than a year ago?
EDIT: have a direct link to the beta page? Usually, you have to link to a Google+ community page or something if you want people to join the beta.

Actually I abandoned using Google play beta app with MX Player 1.x, instead uploaded apk directly.
This feature will be used from MX 2.0 beta testing because of caveats found while testing beta app feature.
