hope i'm posting this in the right forum...
Which should i get? Some thoughts:
HTC Desire HD
- i don't mind the extra size or heft compared to the SGS
- main concern was battery life, although it seems this is just a matter of removing some apps and/or calibrating the battery
- internal storage, while small compared to SGS, is not a big concern: 1.5Gb should be enough right?
Samsung Galaxy S
- main concern is the flimsy back cover...although the obvious workaround is to buy a hard case
- Gorilla Glass is a big plus for me
i really don't care much about the UI -- TouchWiz seems OK, Sense i hear is not too shabby either.
What do you guys think? tia
Well, I just bought new phone and I when I was in the shop just having a browse, I had my eye on a HD2 for a while so was time to get one. Still interested in seeing what new device were like I tried out a Samsung Galaxy S first.
My initial thought was how light it was, I don't like light phones as I feel like I'll lose it easier lol. Also I was looking for 4.3" screen phone and SGS doesn't have one. Also touch input seemed weird, maybe it was how light it was and I wasn't used to it.
I put it down and turned on the Desire HD. Wow, felt right in my hand perfectly and I can feel the weight and coldness from its aluminum body. Touch input was awesome, those capacitive buttons felt great too, first time I've seen them. UI was really snappy and seemed awesome compared to SGS.
Anyway, a few weeks of researching after that day I found myself with a Desire HD and I must say I definitely picked the right one. Love the phone.
Battery life is good but it really depends on what your doing. If the screen is going to be on all the time you will get about 6-8 (roughly) hours of gameplay/internet/video etc. But if not used hard it will last 2 days easily, this has been my findings anyway.
Storage is ok but you will want to get a bigger SD card as the bundled 8GB SD card is hardly enough, but for apps 1.5GB internal is more then fine.
It comes down to what you really want/need out of the phone. The Desire HD is a great pick.
I'm an HTC fan so I will go for the Desire HD plus when I checked it out and compared with Samsung Galaxy S, I liked the Desire more.
if gaming is a big deal for you...
samsung is a bit better with the graphics.. (though the bigger screen of the DHD is nice)
if not.. DHD all the way!

No, its perfectly fine. Before I bought it I saw heaps of people complaining how it doesn't go on properly but it must be their fault. I put it on properly and its sturdy and wont come off for sure.
Neither. Touchwiz, Sense etc is bloatware.
Have you considered the Nexus S?
yah, thought about the nexus s since i was planning to figure out what all this Android development stuff...i eventually passed on it coz
-- no expansion slot; the SGS seems to have more value
-- i don't think it's available here(Philippines)
To be honest, i'm leaning more towards the SGS now; a hard case should deal with the flimsy back cover issue. Too bad, i wanted to go HTC since development is quite active; but with 10 million SGS units sold, i think there should be enough developers out there to pump out custom ROMs B)

Well I have bought a few months ago a samsung galaxy s, then I passed thru desire, nexus one and the next one will be desire HD. I'm going to compare the 3 I've had already.
Galaxy S:
-Great phone, super fast and a good performance, great screen also.
-I personally dislike the touch wiz. I like to use sms popup which the touchwiz blocked with the puzzle unlock.
-Disavantages: No photo flash and back cover.
Desire (normal AMOLED one):
-Good phone also, the sense it's pretty good. Screen it's not as good as the galaxy s one. Performance ok also. It recieves regular updates like the other.
-Main disavantage? Not many, but I didn't get used to the scroll, maybe because I used it less time than the others but it's something.
Nexus OnE:
Well, in this particular model, I have tto day I've had 3 pieces, all of them different.
The first was an american AMOLED unlocked nexus, good phone, always with the latest updates. Screen not as good as the SGS one.
The second and third are vodafone models. One with the AMOLED screen and the other with the SLCD. The first one has a little bit more contrast but I guess I like the SLCD colors. They are stronger and brighter.
When compared to the desire, the sense is missed over here but it's better that touchwiz. I personally like the scroll ball but this is owners choice.
Must say the SGS is the only that actually CONTROLS decently the contrast. When you get off your house he administrates it very well. The HTC's fail sometimes when it comes to this particular thing.
The american nexus broke up the power button and I have no warranty paper, let's hope the guys at HTC fix him. It's a well known problem. Don't know if desire has that problem has they are the same model but when you buy a nexus you have to get some program to change the unlock key.
htc is better than ss galaxys(king of color)

Already been a few threads on this exact topic mate, here's one of them for you to check out. I enjoyed the Incredible S a lot more.
But they have not given a perfect explanation which one is good. It does not matter which one HTC Sensation OR HTC Incredible S Or something similar.
I just want reasons which one to buy

I'd choose the Incredible S over the Sensation, personally. The everyday performance of the Incredible trumps the Sensation. I was very impressed with the Incredible. One of my most regretful sales, actually
Different strokes for different folks, of course. There are many who feel exactly the opposite. My best advice is to get some 'hands-on' time with the devices before you buy if possible. Only you can tell which one will be best for you
But Sensation has sense 3.0 and dual core processor. And It's newer. I dont understand How do you prefer Incredible S over Sensation :O

I understand that. I'll try and explain my perspective for you
I buy a lot of phones. Average one new phone a fortnight. I change them more frequently than socks.
For me, the most important feature of a phone is how it feels and operates on a day-to-day basis. I don't care about 'cores'. I don't care about Quadrant, Linpack, or any of that nonsense. I care about responsiveness, about the user experience. I don't care if it's got twelve cores at 5GHz, if it stutters and lags opening the Launcher, it's a no-go for me.
Case in point: Sensation. On paper, it's a beautiful phone. Out of the box, it was disappointingly laggy and stuttered a lot. I had to S-OFF and install custom software just to make it usable. Out of the box, the Incredible S smoked it, despite not looking as flash on paper. It was a far better optimised package all-round, it ran well, had a beautiful screen and showed very minimal lag. The Sensation didn't, although the screen is fantastic. This is largely due to Sense, but it still marred an otherwise stellar product for me.
I loved the performance of the Galaxy S2. It is an amazing piece of hardware. What lets it down for me is the cheap, glossy plastic body. It's just horrible.
As I said before though, different strokes for different folks. Everyone wants something different. If you want something bragworthy and new, that looks great on paper, you're forced to keep up with the cutting edge. All I ask for out of any device is flawless day-to-day usage.
Just so you know, I'm using a Sharp phone currently that only has a single core. It still smokes the Sensation, even after all the customisation I did to the Sensation to get it right.
There are lots of people who will disagree with my view. My take-home point, is that you will get a ton of opinions on here, but if you stick with what looks good on paper, rather than what feels good in use, you are sometimes very disappointed

Wise words. Everyone likes something different, and getting a lot of opinions will help you balance the pros and cons properly. Just remember, I and anyone else who give you advice aren't going to be using it; you are
The Arc was a lovely phone, but the design put me off a lot. I'm really not into fashion phones, and found it quite feminine. It's very thin, curvy and light. The screen is amazing, and the stock firmware mine had (Rogers) was quite zippy. It was very responsive, I just couldn't live with the design.
As for the Desire HD, it was a favourite for quite a while. Big screen, nice and snappy (I had the Telus version - not the AT&T 'Inspire') - although not as snappy as the Incredible S. I wasn't a fan of the battery flap (broke it twice trying to get it off - very difficult) and the battery life was pretty average.
If I had to pick one for daily use it'd be the Arc, if you can live with the design. If you can't, the Desire HD is still a winner. I think if I'd had the silver Arc I may have liked it more. I have another one on the way, plus a silver housing I'm going to put on it.

Not at all mate, that's why I'm here
In internal hardware, they are all but identical. The Desire HD uses a 4.3-inch LCD screen, the Incredible S uses a 4-inch S-LCD screen. Colour reproduction is better on the Incredible S, as is pixel density (same resolution, smaller screen).
The Incredible S uses a slightly updated camera over the DHD, it had reasonable picture quality (for an HTC device - cameras aren't a strong point for HTC). The Incredible S' soft keys on the front are actually LEDs, they rotate if you use the phone in landscape mode. The back is coated in soft-touch rubber paint, which feels great.
The Desire HD has a good screen - if you like them big. It has a solid build and comfortable weight, but is let down by the battery cover and the average battery life.
In daily use there is little difference, however there is more aftermarket (read: XDA) support for the Desire HD than the Incredible S. What's on offer for both devices, though, is awesome.
They both shoot 720p video. They both have wireless N and Bluetooth. They both have about 1.5GB internal space. They both use a 1GHz Scorpion with 768MB RAM.
I preferred the Incredible because I like a sharp, crisp picture. That's just me.
In short, go with the design you like more
Sensation is better with all aspects.
But it has signal issues. BT, Wi-Fi, and GSM antennas connected to back cover. If you'll cover device's back, you'll Wi-Fi and BT signal. Also it has weak GSM signal.

Mounth ago I bought HTC Sensation. It's very good, fast, and sexy looking device...but with signal problems!

Now I have chosen Incredible S Over sensation and Desire HD. But the problem is Arc is a good phone as you said. I went through some review. Arc is a quite a good phone but 384 MB memory is not going to do the job as i guess. In other words I won't be able to install many apps as I want. What do you think ?
By the way I'm still dying inside mate, because I would luv to buy a Sensation. But it has tons of problems such as battary life , laggy etc as I read. I dont wanna waste my money on a buggy phone ;-)

No no, the 384MB is RAM, not ROM. RAM is used by the system. Simple explanation; more RAM = more things open at once without slowing down.
In terms of overall zip, the Arc and Incredible were very close. It is a good phone.
If you're dying inside, however, I recommend a quick visit to the Hospital, followed by a trip to a phone shop to get yourself a Sensation. You're always going to wonder, otherwise

Some of Sensation users reports that they also have touchscreen lag issues. To be honest used it about 15 days but never had touchscreen problems.
I could live with weak BT and Wi-Fi signal, but I can't even make normal calls.

Im currently using a Wildfire. Its too slow. Thats why I would like to move on. On wildfire
384 MB RAM; 512 MB ROM. Not enough for me. I guess same applies to Arc too. As i know internal memory is important to have more apps
By the way You say that ARC and Incredible is very close. Which means still Incredible is better right ? What are the pros and cons Choosing ARC over Incredible and vice-versa ?

Ah, I misunderstood your post. I didn't think 384MB RAM sounded right. 320MB of storage isn't much, but you can put most of your Apps onto the SD card now so it's not a huge issue, unless you aren't using a memory card. Contrary to what a lot of people think, 512MB of RAM is ample today, unless you're an Atrix running WebTop
As for comparisons between the Inc S and Arc, I only favour the Incredible S out of the two because of design. The Arc was every bit as good a performer as the Incredible. It doesn't have Sense, but Sony's UI isn't too bad at all. The screen is a little bigger and very, very good. Excellent camera, especially videos. Battery life was comparable to the Incredible S.

It has factory defects. Maybe you'll never face GSM, BT signal or touchscreen issues, but you'll see every Sensation have Wi-Fi signal problems.
If you like Incredible S, you can go with it.
But my choice was Samsung Galaxy S2.
i wouldn't recommend the arc.. look how much you find about it on xda, and compare it to the htc devices..
well but if you dont care about tinkering, why not
the sensation was never an option for me, i always wanted to get a GSII.. but now that i used one of a friend i have to say that i just dont like how its build.. its too light >.< but you should try it.. (i'm maybe just too spoiled from the buildquality of my HD2)
now im still with my HD2. i'll wait till they release the new phones around september/oktober/november..

I'm trying to decide which mobile to buy and I've narrowed it down to the Sensation and the Galaxy S 2, I've had the HTC Desire which was fine but more recently I've had and returned 3 HTC Incredible S handsets. All 3 suffered with signal drop on the O2 network here at my home (the Desire seemed OK).
After looking through the Sensation forum, I'm getting concerned that HTC may be loosing a grip as far as standards go?
Now that you've owned your Sensation, what do you think? Would you still buy the Sensation if you were once again in the Market for a phone?

What only makes me ever say I regret buying it is the spec increase only mere months after it's release. I love the phone, a few software problems, but that isn't a deal breaker. I was an early adopter and haven't really had any problems with it. Screen is great, no scratches, feels great in the hand. However between the two I wouldn't know what to pick. I love my Sensation and also want a Galaxy SII. It is really up to which one you can get your hands on. From what I can tell there is a better screen on the SII, but I prefer the resolution on the Sensation. However the Sensations speaker isn't fantastic, but I use headphones anyway so no big deal. Battery isn't too bad on the Sensation. I can easily get a days worth out of it. So to answer your question no I don't really regret the purchase.
I have no regrets. I have had to return two of them but the third one was perfectly fine. I had no problem returning them cause it never costed me a dime and I was never without a phone. If I were in the market today I wouldnt get it though. I would go for the Amaze. Also I am not a fan of Samsungs. They feel too light and cheap for me. I like my phones to feel like a solid piece of hardware and Samsungs just dont.

My Battery life is just fine. Never had dust under my screen. The viewing angles are actually pretty dang good. Bright whites was out to yellowish but all the others hold fine even to extreme angles.
The SAMOLED screen on the TMobile GS2 is bigger but lower resolution causing everything to be really big. Perhaps root will fix that.
I am SERIOUSLY loving InsertCoin 3.2.7 which is a Sense 3.5 rom. The only Rom I've ever tried that was nearly as smooth and fast was an AOSP Rom on my mytouch 4g. It's like buttered silk AND I have 200mb free ram.
My ONLY con now is the app storage or lack therof. Even the low volume speaker was fixed via ROM and Volume+
I don't regret it. Too bad I have to say goodbye though....its a solid device with a lot of ongoing support and tweaks.

My main gripe about the Sensation is Sense 3.0. I've owned a heap of HTC devices and I'm just not sold on the new sense. There's an SGS2 on its way to me right now so I'll offer a more objective opinion when it arrives.

no regrets here at all. i have gone through alot of android phones through tmobile. i must admit this has been the best phone i have owned. If i was shopping for a new phone today i would go for the amaze over the sensation only bc of the higher specs. besides that this phone is amazing especially with CM installed. it felt like a brand new toy once i installed it
There is absolutely ZERO reason to get a Sensation right now (or ANY phone really), until the Nexus Prime details are (officially) revealed.
That being said, I also have zero regrets about purchasing the Sensation. It was hands-down *THE* absolute best phone for T-Mobile at the time and I've certainly loved using it for the past 4 months.
Bottom Line: If you're looking to purchase a smart phone in the near future, it would be foolish to not wait until the Nexus Prime is officially revealed. It has the potential to change the Android landscape, and while we don't regret OUR purchase of the Sensation, the Prime might make YOUR purchase an instant-regret. Just wait

Not because of all the new Phones that are pretty much updated versions of it... but because of all the manufacture defects i've encountered.. such as dust build up around top and wedged in between the front camera that cannot be removed, Also randomly unresponsive screen due to static build up between the battery cover and pin. And the worst, a Screwed up headphone jack that decides to pause/play/skip music as well as make random calls whenever headphones are plugged in. Pisses me off that i need to carry an extra device (ipod) just so i can listen to music..
Im really conflicted as to what to do with my phone or whether i should switch to another device..
Samsung Galaxy S 2 has some great specs but the cheap flimsy plastic is a killer. (former Vibrant owner and hated the cheap toddler toy feel)
The HTC Amaze looks sexy as hell but at it turns out it has the same Battery cover design as the Sensation which will most likely lead back to Dust and unresponsive screen issues..
Hopes the Nexus Prime comes to tmobile and really hopes samsung doesnt screw it up by making it out of plastic so cheap that it makes a McDonald's toy look like a quality build

I'd definitely buy it again - I was also worried because of all the griping on this forum, but my Sensation's been perfect and it's the best HTC phone I've owned. Feels a lot better in the hand than the Galaxy S 2, has a better aspect ratio and (to me) a better, less over-saturated screen.
Plus, Sense 3.0 (with Android Revolution HD) is a dream to use.
I cant tell you how much I regret buying mine. Awesome hardware specs, huge screen, but HORRIBLE build quality and constant ongoing issues. In addition, Sense is just terrible and I do not think I will ever buy another Android phone that isnt bone stock with no carrier modifications. Its honestly not worth the headache waiting around for people to mod a ROM just so it can finally be up to par with a vanilla Nexus type phone IMO.
I bought my Sensation when it first came out in June. I have zero regrets buying it and it has been a great phone to date. I haven't really had any issues, although now I believe I have some dust under the screen. With that said, I still have no issue buying it then as it was the best phone on the market at the time. There is also tons of development for it - which I really like. I was actually looking at giving my wife the Sensation and upgrading to either the GS II or Amaze. I went and checked out both of those phones today and have to say I was underwhelmed. The GS II is big and has a plastic feel to it. I also noticed a lot of lag when scrolling thru the home screens and felt my Sensation (running ARHD ROM) was more responsive. Also, not really a fan of Touch Wiz. The Amaze is nice, and it is very similar to the Sensation. However I am not sure if it will get rooted (quickly) and the amount of development that it will get. Not sure if it's worth the upgrade.

Sense was nowhere near optimized for the Sensation and it shows in the way that the fastest custom Sense ROMs for us are still a little bit slower than the newest stock HTC devices that run Sense 3.0. I will never buy a LCD screen phone again because it is worthless in the sunlight and is in general washed out in light. The speaker is bad; ROMs or Volume+ apps that barely increase the volume do not fix the fact that it is a hardware problem.
That said, I do enjoy tinkering with and using my Sensation. I still think it is perhaps the most beautiful looking device of the year, I enjoy the fact that we have decent dev support on here, and the screen res is enjoyable. I'm also really waiting to see what this phone can do with ICS and when CM7 comes out of Alpha or whatever (I'm very nitpicky and will only install full on ROMs that only have minor issues). In that sense, I'm enjoying what I can with this phone even though I wish I would have waited for a better one (but heck, I was put in a hard position because I had to get a new phone at the time the Sensation came out and it was the best Tmob phone available). But, if I was in the market for a new phone right now I would absolutely wait for the Nexus Prime. The SGSII seems like a good step up, but I would hesitate to get a phone that isn't a 100% upgrade over the Sensation (some things like the screen res are a step down).
I regret it. If I knew as much about this phone as I know now... I would've keep my Glacier.
Thing is a piece of crap, really. Sure, it has top specs... but software is a mess and build quality is dissapointing. I wanted to love it but I can't. Ready to sell if for whatever I can as soon as next Nexus device drops.
Sorry HTC, you really dropped the ball lately and I'm going to speak with my wallet from now on.

Amaze might be a slightly better hardware but it's ugly as F to me.
only thing XE offers is the headphones basically. Software we can get, no big.
having said that, if you are in the market now for a new phone I'd say wait til Nexus Prime is officially announced.
we don't know the full details yet but it should be a beast.

Currently i am a proud owner of a HTC desire s and i want to upgrade my phone. I am looking for me with a better battery but also a bigger screen and a faster processor. I very much like the build quality from HTC and their unique unibody case. So the sensation is on my list. Would you recommend this phone to me?
I have also some questions
Is it easy to s-off, root the phone and to apply custom roms?
How long last the battery with medium/heavy usage (heavely whatsapp/sms?
And do you guys think i can play upcoming android games?

I have HTC Sensation. It was very easy to S-OFF it and install custom ROMs. Usually I charge it every evening, but after overnight charge it can hold 2 days if used very slightly. Havy usage will kill it during one day for sure There are also batteries with extended capacity, like Anker, available.
Considering performance, I think this phone has a great potential that will be unleashed with ICS.

The development is getting much better in here ics is fully working only need to charge at might with a day of heavy usage, double that with moderate, everything with regards to custom roms is simple,
However the desire s is a Good phone, wait a little while there's a few new phones round the corner ike the htc ville or the sg3

hey, I've owned the HTC Sensation z710e since launch and I can tell you I'd actually advise NOT to get it. It's branded as a fast phone but truth be told it really isn't. When I've asked about the speed compared to sgs2 they say sense slows it down so i used an aosp rom, still slower, until i overclocked till 1.7ghz, it was just a bit better. The phone has over-heating issues, the bottom of the screen and back cover get extremely hot after about 10-20 mins use. There is also a rather pathetic death grip issue, at the top AND bottom of the phone. I'd go for a samsung phone, deffinately. Apart from these three rather annoying facts, it's extremely easy to root and run roms.

Don't wanna make this into an argument but I don't have any of these issues and with ICS the phone is buttery smooth handles 3D games easily like gta and need for speed, out if the box its pants, it doesn't get over heated bit it will at 1.7 the death grip is there but only if you put your whole hand over the back of the phone

I'd have to agree with whynot66, also note that a lot of the complaints/problems about the sensation (ie. dust problems, overheating) are coming out of a very vocal/unlucky minority. After all, users with no problems don't post "HEY I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH MY PHONE!" threads.
Personally, my phone runs super smooth and with ICS I get 60 hours battery life on one overnight charge and medium usage.
I would recommend adopting a wait and see approach though, since the next generation is about to be unveiled.
Side note, isn't it crazy that a generation of phones only lasts for a year tops? And I used to think console generations are short...

+ 1 that I bought the xe when it came out didn't know it was just an overclocked sensation till I got it only had it about 6 months and I'm thinking about quad cores lol, console generations are slow in comparison the ps4 will have to be something special tho

Draw back to having the latest phone is that you will be stuck with stock ROM from HTC, development only happens for popular phones and the rate of new models mean no-one spends time learning to code for them.
Look at the HD2, well past it's use date and still going strong because of the huge and expert user base, they've performed miracles with it. I was surprised when I moved from HD2 to Sensation that so little coding has been done for it, no offence to devs, but AOSP is still a while off yet and all the ICS releases are tweaks of a stock ROM leak.
I hope the release rate of new phones slows, otherwise the userbase gets more and more fragmented. Looking at HTC's drop in sales I think they must be realising that cutting edge hardware on it's own itsn't enough, it needs excellent software to shine.
Next time I buy a new phone I'm first gonna check which phone the best devs are buying, then follow them.

That sounds very good. With my Desire S I'm already used to charge it every night so that isnt a problem. But with my current phone i can't always have mobile data on, for whatsapp, facebook, etc. I would really appreciate it if i could have allways mobile data on and use it for textings, no much downloading or surfing, just texting
And do you guys can give some information about battery life? Pls with the screen on time otherwise it would been senseless
Buying another battery like the 1900mah anker isn' a problem either
I don't want to buy these phones cause as mentioned already the developement isnt really big, it's at the beginning of the growning then. Otherwise will these phones be at high prices :/ maybe 450-600€ (europe).
I've heard that the developement on the sensation is very far progressed, is it right?

At the moment I'm using my Desire S with a optimized Sense 3 Rom and it is 75% smooth and thats with a 1GH singlecore processor. So i think the 1,2GH Dualcore processor of the Sensation will be satisfying my needs for speed and smoothness
Besides that I'm to this "overheating" and the death grip. In my opinion its pretty normal for a aluminium-uniboy-phone
I wouldn't go for Samsung as I don't like the plastic case. I don't care if it is high quality plastic or not, I simply don't like that as much as the aluminium unibody from HTC. And I really like HTC Sense, also don't care if it slow downs the phone, I really like the options on Sense and how it is user friendly + the looks so Samsung isn't really an option for me.
A short information, on my current phone, the Desire S, I have to get S-Off (simply with the revolutionary tool, very easy), then install a custom recovery like cwm or 4ext (adb push or as PG88IMG.zip per bootloader, easy too) and then can flash a zip for superuser/root or custom roms.
So I am already used to adb/fastboot commands and can use these as well as update zips within the bootloader. Is it the same on the Sensation or are there any other steps to do?
I have had mine for a week or two. I do not have death grip issue or any of the issues some report to have. I recommend this phone. I absoluty love it. It is not as fast as my g2x but it also doesn't have all the bugs my g2x has. This phone looks great runs great and I do not regret purchasing it.

I am with you, I absolutely love sense!. I have held and played with samsung phones especially the GS2 and plastic doesn't feel anything like aluminum and SGS2 just looks ugly. SGS2 is a great device except for its choice of materials and design, I would have bought one if it wasn't too ugly. Sensation is a nice phone and except for the dust under the screen problem that I have, it is absolutely amazing. But since it is 2012 and quad core phones are coming, I suggest you wait for htc Edge or anything that is quad core.
1.5 dual core is the true measure the development is steadily growing. I have mobile data always on and/or wifi. We're running sense 3.6 leak. But htc will be releasing ics officially soon with sense 4.0 once that is released it will be even better. There is some exceptionally skilled devs around here too

Thats are exactly my thoughts except the part with the waiting
i don't need a quadcore and i can't see where a quadcore could improve something. the most apps on the market are for singlecores and dont take any advantage from more cores. even the dualcore isnt really used, its still useful especially for sense but i didnt see the point in using quadcores. its the same as the ram. for what do you need, let me say 2gb ram, if all the time 1,4gb are free? if you use a device with 768mb of ram and you only use 500mb it isnt a advantage for you to have 2gb of ram. its useless, and in my opinion its the same qith the amount of cores of the processor. we shouldnt move to quadcores if we dont optimized the dualcore to the max.

Battery life for me, with the Anker 1900, is between 24 to 36hrs with phone, data, wifi and sync on all the time - that's with 5 to 6hrs of the screen being on.
For the S-off, root and CWM the sensation is pretty similar, there are several sticky threads you need to read.
Yes it is easy to S-off, root and flash custom ROMs and I havn't had any real issues with it. However, I had a Desire S before my Sensation and I wouldn't say that it was a very big jump between the 2, I agree with a few others on here that you are better off waiting until something else comes along that is worth the extra outlay for a more significant upgrade.
With regards to battery life I have found it to be similar to the Desire S, although the Sensation has a bigger battery it also uses more power so I get a similar amount of life out of it, less than a day at my reasonable heavy usage level.
Something to note, the asmp design of our dualcore Snapdragon is definitely not optimized for performance, and the supposedly powerful Adreno 220 gpu is either overrated or htc just gave us crappy drivers for it.
So like someone said above me, the real world difference between Desire and Sensation will probably not be huge. The Sensation is a good phone, but if you want raw power for gaming, you might want to wait and see what comes down the pipeline.
I also wouldnt go for the Sensation now. The step from Desire S to the Sensa just isnt big enough to justify investing the money. Just wait for a month or two and get the latest model than....which most likely wont be much more expensive then the Sensa XE is now.

but the sensation xe is on a price level were i wouldnt even considering it.
the sensation is now on a price were i really think about upgrading, the screensize of my desire s does really annoying me with the time, its simply to small.. i've looked in shops and tried different phones with different sizes. and 4,3inch fits perfectly for me, 4,65 or even 5,3 is just too big were 4 is a bit too small
I'd say wait too, more so since you're already coming from a good phone.
Hopefully, MWC will push prices of older phones down a little and let you see what new stuff there is too.

I really like the speed of the S2 and the hardware home button, but the resolution is incredible low on this device Against that there is the Nexus, its a bit slower from what i've heard but has a beautiful screen in my opinion. Did any of you guys know if the decrease in speed is noticeable in daily use? I really like that it is also supported directly from Google and get the updates asap.
There are also the Sensation because i like the aluminium case from HTC.
I prefer the Nexus and the S2 a bit over the Sensation. So which phone you recommend for me?

I would advise you to wait for the Mobile World Congress before upgrading... you'll have many more options within a couple of months...
But if you still want to upgrade now, here's my input :
1. Sensation : ? Why would you want to consider that? It's an average phone, and from whatever time i've spent on it on my friend's phone, it's nothing to write hone about. Does anyone even remember the original Sensation anymore (Especially after the XL and the XE?)
2. The SGS2 is a very very fast phone, with great hardware, but i have two issues with it : The screen has a bluish tinge to it, and colour reproduction is inaccurate across the spectrum. Secondly, it looks like a plastic business card holder
3. The Galaxy Nexus is a lovely looking device, the form factor is very attractive. In my discussions with zeekiz (who bricked his DS and migrated to the GN) he says he loves the phone and it's not slow or anything like you mentioned. Plus, you'll be the first person to get the next Android version update (Jellybean). Thirdly, it always makes sense to go for the newer device, both for the gains in hardware, as well as company support that comes more easily and lasts longer for newer (especially) flagship phones.

Just a small note here, with my experiance the 3.7' of the Desire S is the largest screen size for a mobile that I can -almost- fully use with one hand, whenever you go beyond that, you may have to get used to work with both hands, and that made me drop the sensation in favor of my DS

I came from a HTC Sensation to the Desire S as i found the Sensation too big. Surprisingly i have found the Desire S not much slower.
I would also wait for the MWC...but if you can't wait, IMHO Sensation is a good device especially after it's rooted and equipped with the custom ICS based roms made for the XE version (with CPU at 1.5 Ghz)...i think capy's work.
Anyway you have a lot of roms to try even with ICS out there.
Regarding the SGSII it's ok if you want a plastic phone....
Galaxy Nexus has a good screen and it's not slow but i think it's a little big, you will clearly need 2 hands if you want to use it properly.

Right on! Exactly my thoughts about the SGS2. It feels like a business card holder!
Wait for mwc and HTC edge if price isn't the big deal
Otherwise, i personaly would buy a sensation, the gs2 is sure a nice device, but like mentioned above the screen isn't the best and the plastic body feels weird.
The galaxy nexus isn't a device for me, there are 2 dealbreakers at my opinion, even if the resolution is better than at the gs2 the grapic chip is wors and there is no sd slot.
The update cycle is sure a point and the nfc also, but for my opinion it's a pure developer phone.
The sensation is from hardware almost the same like the sensation xe and every rom can be exchanged between those 2 devices, there is no nfc, for sure, but the gs2 also haven't got one, so this isn't a point of interest for you i think.
Also even if all of them have them same frequenzies the sensation runs at a stock speed of 1.5 ghz with an xe rom, so it got the highest frequency of those phones.

yeah i'd wait for MWC but if not galaxy nexus for all the reasons above. It is definitely not a slow phone, especially since google probably built ICS for the nexus. The only thing i hate about the nexus phones is the fact that they're always released at awkward times. By awkward, i mean right before all the new hardware comes out. My brother has an S2 and it does have a horrible plasticky feeling. While the galaxy nexus is the same, it seems to hide it better. The white S2 is even worse! It has no grip on the back which makes it absolutely horrible to hold, not to mention a liability too.

From what I'm hearing about HTC's line-up for MWC, I hope they also announce a sensible phone. At the moment I really don't know what I'll get, as the current rumours all seem to have several problems for me.
1. Screens too big.
I have a non-upgradable 2.5" thumb. I've spoken to my network provider but they wont give me a larger one. I do not want to have to change grip or use two hands to turn screen on/off. The DS screen size is perfect. It is fine watching films on Netflix.
2. Quad core. Really?
Does anyone remember the Coca-Cola/Sprite stunt yo-yo's from the eighties? (Bear with me here, work is a little slow today and I feel a rant coming on.) They were a massive craze when I was at school. They came in two versions. "Standard" and "Pro". The Pro ones cost nearly twice as much. Why was that? It was because the Pro version had "Pro" written on the side. That was it. They were the same size and weight as the standard version. But every kid in my class practically sold a kidney to get the pro version, because to show up in the playground with the standard version stood you out for ridicule, and everyone was certain the Pro version could do better stunts. What is quad core going to give us? How often is it going to be running on more than 2 cores? Can it do better stunts? My single core phone can render web pages quickly, run any game I've asked it to, record 720p video at 30fps, and has a smooth and lag free UI. It just doesn't have "Pro" written all over it. That word seems to brain-wash kids into doling out dosh! Kids love the idea of being "Pro". Look at what every premium version of any app on the Android Marketplace is called.
3. Skinny form-factors
Leading to phones being bendy and having a non-removable battery. I like my solid aluminium DS. I've held the SGS2. It feels like a kinder surpise egg. Squeeze it too hard and I worry it'd break. Plus if we are having to have a (pro) Quad Core phone don't we need a bigger battery? Did you know the HTC Edge has a fifth core (super pro) that is a very low power companion core for when the phone is off in your pocket? Turn your phone on (without dropping it changing your grip to reach the button) and expect laptop battery life from the 40nm chip. Will it come with a Pro Charger?
4. No SD Card slot.
OK most of the phones with these also claim built-in 32GB storage which is fine for capacity, but what if I brick my phone larking about on XDA? What if it just packs in? Currently all my music/photos/documents would simply be removed and put into another phone. If it's built-in and your phone wont boot.....Are the cloud-storage sites encouraging phone manufacturers to do this?
5. Build Quality.
HTC seem to have really dropped the ball with this one. They used to be fantastic. However I know 3 people who have bought the DS since September (on my recommendation) and all of them have been back for repair at least once. One of them died for the second time two nights ago with the dreaded eMMC chip failure again! WTF? Did they replace the faulty board with another one prone with the same weakness? She also waited 6 weeks to get that phone back the first time. I feel guilty now. Also check Amazon for the reviews of the DS. Since September it's started getting a load of 1 star reviews and they all read the same. It seems I was lucky in buying my DS on it's release, before it seems HTC moved production to the local wine bar/crack house. There is no way I'm spending £450 on something I'm not confident will last a year or will take me 6 weeks to get repaired.
If HTC...no if ANYONE announce a phone that has: A screen under 4", solid build, removable battery, SD card slot, improved camera optics, decent amount of RAM, reasonable battery life and justifiable processing power, then I'll get my wallet out. Or if it comes with a free Pro Yo-Yo. They do better stunts.
Basically I want a DS with a nicer camera and bigger battery. And a sticker that says "Pro" on it.

I agree on mostly everything you've said above... especially HTC screwing up on its strengths... build quality, sub-par components, and progressively bloat-ier (i know that's not a word) Sense... Though i'd still buy an HTC instead of a Samsung, all things set aside, they do better stunts!!

If i had the choice, i'd choose the sensation in a heartbeat.
First, it has the beat build IMO. The SGS 2 is too plasticky and since it's far too thin, it feels weird in my hand. The galaxy nexus is waaaaaay to big. The sensation is perfect
Second, HTC Sense. It is just too good and i can't get a device that has no chance of getting Sense. Besides, touchwiz sucks and the stock experience on the nexus can be acieved through an AOSP ROM.
That said, the super amoled screen is quiet good ad a plus point of both sammys.
That said, i recommend you wait till MWC. Something awesome will surely come up. There is a thread, full of leaks on the two upcoming htc devices, the One X and the One S.

it has to be the htc amaze, i think its a great phone, in addition to that htc has quality in its build, as in our desire s the aluminum feel is way better than the plastic in most samsungs
