4G is continuing to expand
I'm not sure about Ogden specifically but I was talking to a Verizon guy and he imformed me that they are continuing to expand 4G every week as they get more and more towers converted. I had very spotty 4G on launch day and every week the range is expanding more and more and now I've got full time 4G. He also told me that sometimes they have towers ready for 4G but they have some dead spots they need to work on before they can turn on all the towers in an area. They don't want to have 4G, and then a dead spot, and then 4G. So they will wait until they can fill the middle area and then flip the switch on all of it. I assume you'll have it soon since they were mentioning they will have 4G in Provo/Orem the end of July (that's the rumor at least).

4G in a non-4G city!

I live in Milwaukee, WI and even though I knew the city was not due to get 4G until summer, here I am surfing and downloading at insane speed!
I know the speed test app by speakeasy was giving skewed results but I've been testing using the browser version. I have been hitting around 13Mbits/sec download but only 1Mbit/sec upload.....so maybe it's more like 3.5G. (and yes, it days the network connection type is the phones settings is LTE, and the 4G symbols shows in the notifications bar)
Still, I am super happy with even this and I really hope it continues to work.
If anyone else has been seeing this (even in other cities) it would be interesting to hear about...and for further discussion, might anyone know what the cause of this "miracle" could be?

most likely there are towers active in your city, and that city wide rollout is planned for summer. they may be in the testing phases too with a limited number of towers turned on. Portland is not listed as having 4g, but anybody in the north west portion of the city are getting it.. There are 2 towers active over there
I'm in a far, Northwest suburb of Chicago, Il. and the 4G LTE showed about twice.
Psosmith82: Yeah I was thinking it might be something like that... since I was rolling through other parts of the city today and noticed it was 3G only.
I'm really just hopping I don't 'lose' LTE connectivity for any reason (even thought I know it is not technically rolled out)
Good to know. I'll be down there in a few weeks for the Miller Park opener. Hopefully I can get 4g's when tailgating.
Hey, I live in Orlando and notice city above me have LTE and the map shows otherwise. So it might be beta testing some new towers which is great. Need to test this baby in a building and we should be superb. Love the phone and the network.
This is similar to the Sprint WiMax rollout in Los Angeles when I test drove an EVO 4G for a month last summer (June IIRC).
Sprint was just finishing up the tower installs in the downtown area and you'd see many reports of people getting WiMax signals for a half day or two and then nothing. Clearly what's going on in your case; enjoy the pleasant surprise!
where (about) in the city are you? I'm very close to state fair park and haven't seen 4g pop up even once yet.
though I haven't ventured towards downtown in the past week or so.

That means verizon is testing 4g in ur area and it should be live soon
Dang it I missed it!!
They have turned it on once before for a few min about a month so maybe we are getting close to having the switch flipped on in gville/sptbg area! I hate that I missed it this time!
I am near downtown greenville and it came on for about a few min and went out got a chance to do a speed test I was getting 6 to 10mbps down was not getting upload
Also I been noticing 3g going down to 1x and back up to 3g for the past week anyone else had this happen?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
oooooh. Maybe if Greenville is close then Charleston is right there with them. I should start turning on 4g to see if it works
I thought you meant Greenville, NC... damn.
Coming soon to a greenville / spartanburg place near you! YES!
I read an article on google that stated verizon's 4g will hit surrounding areas when greenville, sc receives 4g, including clemson university. With that being said, i have noticed an increase in 3g/1x fluctuations this and last week as well.
I don't see why they didn't include Anderson in the list I saw. I saw mauldiin simpsonville easley fountain inn and some more suburbs in greenville. Heck if they added Anderson they would have most of the upstate market. Tonight I been noticing a lot of 3G drops outs

It Looks like the Greenville/Spartanburg area is getting 4G on the 16th of June Verizon Wireless Twitted it along with 21 new market areas!
Are you sure Greenville/Spartanburg was on the list?? I didn't see it on Android Central's list for the 16th a couple days ago.
I hope, I hope you're right!!
Your Right!! I hadn't seen the latest!! Thanks for making my day!! HAHAHA
I'm in Travelers Rest/Furman area, wonder if the 4G will stretch to me? i'm only 15 min to downtown.
I live in Easley and I really hope it reaches out there because I will get rid of my DSL through AT&T.
Come on Boiling Springs!!

It's also on verizon wireless news Center http://news.vzw.com/news/2011/05/pr2011-05-20g.html
Also these surrounding areas i would picture Travelers Rest and Easley will be in there since Central SC which is WAY smaller than Easley is also gonna be Covered because these towns are part of the Greenville Metro statistical area (aka Suburbs) but here is what they posted on thier News Center
The deployment of Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE in Greenville-Spartanburg also provides LTE coverage throughout the surrounding areas of Clemson, Simpsonville, Fountain Inn, Greer, Taylors, Inman, Central, Liberty (Which i will think this will include Easley since is along HWY 123 and in Pickens County just adding my guessing in), Mauldin, Wellford, Inman, Berea, Lyman, Startex, Roebuck, and White Stone.
With all these Cities and surroundings that Pretty much covers the Whole Upstate at least around the I-85 Corridor of South Carolina just needs to get to Gaffney and Anderson area's this is like a huge LTE cut on
I was connected to 4g for a few hours early this morning in Mauldin before it went back off.
zolazar - i live in easley too. small world.

4G up and running in Fort Wayne, IN!

Verizon's 4G LTE network is now up and running ahead of schedule! It was supposed to be up at the end of the month but here I get to utilize my TB to its fullest potential half a month early! So far surfing the web is amazing, Hulu and Netflix stream flawlessly and downloads fly. Now to see how bad my battery life ends up...

Grats! Now we need it in more parts of Indy (i.e. the parts I'm in, not downtown and by the airport).
Congrats! still cant get any sign of it in Noblesville.
Likewise none here either in noblesville
Seen it from indy to westfield Monday, soon as I got home no more 4G
Can't wait for this ****
Seems most of Indy is supposed to be covered now. I get a 4g signal about one block from my house but, sadly, no 4g at my house. Still, far better rollout than AT&T's "4g" service. The suburbs are probably next on the list.
the Verizon press release says 4G within the 465 loop
I had it to westfield a couple days before it was "officially" released, but now I don't!!
my guess is they attenuated the signal strength back some to limit signal loss in the burbs, who really knows, except them
http://news.vzw.com/news/2011/05/pr2011-05-23a.html
BINGO!!
got 4G LTE in westfield right now!!!
so excited, hope its at work too, in noblesville
Man, you guys are lucky. I don't even know when Indy is getting Wimax, let alone Danville and Avon.

Hells yeah!

Active in Bloomington / Normal too, occurred overnight!
Meanwhile.....
Thriving metropolises like Fostoria, OH have had it most of the year now. Technology doesn't seem to reach IL very fast. Huge portions of that state still don't have EVDO.
so what gives?... how do we know when 4G is going to be available if Verizon says they don't have that information?....
I'm in San Diego county and have been waiting 7 months now for 4G. Ill occasionally hear that some 4G update is coming soon & people here making posts when they have it.. but still.. ghetto 3G for me.
is there even a way to find out or just wait around until we either suddenly notice our phone says 4G or get an announcement email from Verizon?
oh and speaking of thriving metrpolis'... how come I have a cousin that lives in a tiny town of like 20,000 people and has 4G, and I live in a place 500,000 people and no 4G....
damn you Verizon and your false advertising!....
I'm sorry t-mobile and my galaxy s....

What did you expect? 4G everywhere as soon as the Tbolt went on sale? They're basically building a new network from the ground up. Verizon doesn't send out emails welcoming people to 4Gland. It usually just happens overnight. Here in Ohio, its almost impossible to avoid LTE inside a city. Even a small one like fostoria, OH. Some places won't see it for years yet. It's not false advertising. I didn't expect to see it where I'm at anytime soon, then they started doing nightly testing and it was live in a month. You just have to relax your expectations.
I live near downtown san diego. I get great 4G service typically but when I go to places like escondido, other does suck. Ive been told by multiple reps that 4G will be nationwide by end of 2012.

I'm in the Quad Cities which is one of the areas that was supposed to get it on the 15th of this month. I've seen my phone connect a couple/few times but not for very long at all. I've done a couple speed tests too and it would only come back as like 5 or 6 meg down which can't be right. Anyone else in this area having similar issues? I've tried different radios on my phone and still the same thing...
I just got 4g in Mansfield,Ohio today and my thunderbolt still says 3g what's up with that

I seem to be able to connect in certain areas, but not at work or home, even though home is in the downtown area... I thought all of the city was supposed to have coverage or does it take a little time for that to happen?

Can this be true--

Am having all most zero dl in Dayton Ohio this morning and went to this site
http://www.cellreception.com/towers/towers.php?city=dayton&state_abr=oh
In checking towers for various carriers, tmobile shows only two--got to be an error--right?
I don't remember that number on other sites I checked in the past--
Saw this one too--
http://www.t-mobiletowers.com/towersearch.aspx?tabid=0&zip=45324
Maybe these are only owned towers--
This is why I bought by S1 outright--doubt if I will stay with TMO. Some areas may be great, but where I need it most--sucks--
Was hoping for 4g here soon as I was told Cincy had it rolled out over the last couple months and Dayton next. Not sure if they are done there yet.Of course 4g won't matter if signal stength sucks--
Or, maybe it is HTC phones, as my N1 faired no better--
I know how you feel. I was really ready to switch over to Verizon for their coverage but their phone sucks so I stuck with Tmo for the One S and cheaper plans.
The reception/radio on this phone sucks compared to my HTC G2. The 4G signal is too jumpy in Boston. Really left a sour taste in my mouth. I wish Verizon will have some decent phone when my contract is up in a year or so. I would consider breaking my contract if the price is right.
Sent from the One.
Yes phone will be important. But, I will need local, good coverage.
I know TMobile has good value plans compared to the other big ones. But, if a have extemely poor coverage at my home and work, dosen't really matter.
BTW my speeds are back up, although I did flash a new oc kernel. But, probably just a weather or tower issue. Doubt if the stock kernel was at fault.
It's Allll good here in Akron. ;p
Average or 10mbps+
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2
yea, xxquicksh0txx
you got 42mb--
can't wait for that
there are areas here i get 10-12 on occasion, it's just where i use it most, signal strength is poor at best--i do have wifi at home--but sometimes it may be down
I live on the outskirts, so I get a week signal. Still 6 mbps, but its a hit or miss, it'll work for a minute and then buffer a movie for a whole minute untill it kicks it in high gear again.
My work, school, and most of my commute to everywhere I get decent signal.
Except when I go down to West Virginia, just moved here so I'm not sure of the highway, 77? Hardly any signal once you get past canton.
Roaming on Att is weird, sometimes it will let me roam and others or says my sim is no compatible.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2
I thought you were in a 42mb area based on your sig pic speedtest
I guess it is what it is--just want to explore options when contract up
