I want to know. Do you really need to restore your apps from titanium backup?
I flash a rom every other week and I used to restore ALL my apps after a new flash. Just this week I decided to not restore my apps because I realized I barely use half of them on my phone.
Maybe the ones you know you can't live without, but i have way to many as it is and have started flashing more often. So im getting pickier about what i backup.
apps update so quick, i just use titanium backup to backup my game.
I backup all my apps
But when I flash a new rom I restore only what I need for the moment

I still restore my apps with titanium backup, but I do try to leave off some apps that I haven't been using. It's like moving and getting rid of the stuff you don't use! The more you move - the less boxes of stuff you have - LOL!
I had to factory-default my phone as it started acting strange, and I definitely did not reinstall a bunch of apps I'd installed. When I first got the phone, I went wild on the Marketplace, and installed a ton of free apps that sounded interesting. There were a bunch of apps on the phone that I'd probably never even used once.
yeah like most i backup all my apps but only restore some of them depending on what i want/need at the time.

I hardly use the backup, I am not application/game freak so the apps count is less. I have seen guys backing up lots of apps/games, but instead they only use few.
I don't restore all my old apps, Market is here for that, but it can be useful to backup stock apps that you can't find on Market when you flash an alternative ROM that doesn't bring stock apps.

With all the the new updates coming out, I was wondering if some of the more experienced people could put a decent post up on how to completely back up all my data and apps.
All the updates for TnT Lite recommend a data wipe and I am getting tired of finding and installing all my apps over and over. And doing stuff like the Hulu and swype hacks over again really suck.
I know I have read to use adb and Titanium, but honestly I do not know how to use either one correctly. I downloaded Titanium but I guess I have been too lazy to figure out how it works.
One more thing, I know CW has its own backup and I have been using that, but I am talking about something that allows for restoring on a new updated rom...

That thing that you are too lazy to learn about is the thing that will do exactly what you want. Titanium backup is very easy to use, has batch features so you can back up all of your apps, or just what you want. Load a new rom, and then do a restore with titanium and most everything will be back. It is not perfect, but it does a good job.
+2 for Titanium Backup. The free version works fine but I purchased it so that it would do automated backups.

Awesome... I tried playing with it for a little while ealier tonight, but I am still not exactly sure how titanium is suppose to work.... is there a guide or faq out there somewhere?

Cool.. Don't know if there is a guide but I believe you need the paid version to do the batch things. That's what I have so I can't remember what the free version lets you do.
Pretty much all you do for apps is select backup/restore from the top menu bar, then just select the item you want backed up and a menu will come up allowing you to back it up. You can do that for each app, or with the paid version you can press the menu button while in backup/restore and it will have a batch selection. It will have a bunch of options to choose from. To backup all of your apps you would just select backup all user apps. Works pretty fast, and saves them all to your internal sd card in the TitaniumBackup folder by default. Restoring is the same except you pick the restore all user apps button.
It can do a lot more but just doing all of your apps will help a lot.
That's the basics to maybe get ya started...

Batch backup is available in the free version. From the restore/backup tab, press the menu button and choose batch. This will let you backup all apps.
The paid version adds ability to verify your backup.
I wasn't sure how to use titanium backup at first but I went back to android market and followed the link to the developers website where they have guides you can following.

is this the best way to restore game data after flashing a ROM? I don't get why Android makes you reinstall games and apps that are already on your sd card. Seems like there should be a way to search for them and repopulate....
I've had no issues with Titanium on my Dinc, DX, or TBolt. The issues some folks have with this app is doing a wholesale batch restore of all backed up apps and data after flashing a new ROM.
Selectively restoring data and apps has never presented an issue for me. The only items I generally restore after flashing a new ROM are, as you mentioned, data for games and my bookmarks. I let the Market download "fresh" versions of my apps for most other stuff.

I already use appmonster to restore apps. Curious if I go this method and restore apps using appmonster (from sd), then titanium to restore data (for same app build number) if it would work ok. guess I'll find out this weekend.

I have been using titanium for about a month almost daily, apps and data, but mostly data. I sync with Google and get as much as I can automatically downloaded again from the market.
But I've been lucky. With the exception of a few apps that came from other sources, I haven't had any problems. With those one or maybe two apps that had problems, zip aligning and fixing permissions solved them.

Yes! I've just gotten off the oncall rotation stint so I can mess with my phone again without getting worried but not receiving calls. I'm on Infused 1.6, bigtime disappointed about no GB love from ATT so I'm going to try S7.
However, I have a ton of paid and free apps and setups installed that I really don't want to lose. I've gotten through a ton of threads but there weren't any hard mention that the apps would stick around. I have religiously backed up using Titanium and even copied the files to my PC for safe keeping.
Q1. I presume I would have to reinstall all apps on S7 as my Froyo-based backups will be useless then?
Q1. If I need to fallback to Infused 1.6, can I just use GTG Ultimate Unbrick, get back to stock rooted and use the Ti backup files to get me back to the previous state? Like Ghost? And I'll get my widgets, unlocker, folder organizer, themes e.g. back ?

If u like the set up you have already , just go into Recovery. Back/Nandroid and your safe at any point to just return to the set up that you had. with your apps and contacts and what not.
you CAN use Titanium to restore to your New GB Rom just do not Restore System Data. Only restore missing apps and data.

Thanks. I've done my nandroid backup and have verified I can go into red CWM. I didn't realize but glad to know I can use my Tibu to restore my apps. I presume I will still need to manually re-setup any customization, unlocker, folder apps e.g. I was all set to do it this morning at work except I forgot my outlook-synced contacts and calendar will need to be re-entered so I'll hold off until I backed them up at home.
Just to be doubly sure, are my paid and free apps in the form that I can manually just copy to my PC as a backup and be able to copy back and install them? Much like the setup or install exes and folders on Windows? Some of my apps I've purchased from Amz, some from Mkt and others from brainapp.
Titanium will Bring over all your apps. Again, just DO NO restore SYSTEM data.
and as far as your pad apps, they should ALL be linked to your google account. so at any point just go into market, hit settings, My Apps and u can find them all in there.

I am wondering how easy it will be to move from the Gs2 to the skyrocket? Basically any recommended ways of moving my apps, texts, pictures, etc to the SdCARD and back from the SdCard to the new phone? Contacts are synced with Google Contacts so no problems there, my main concern is with paid apps, I'd rather not pay for them again.
Can I back up apps via TiBU and restore them on the Skyrocket? Or can I just reinstall them on the new phone?

Paid apps are in your google account as well, you will be able to reinstall all your paid apps through the market (without repaying) by just signing in to your same google account.
The only thing you need to backup is your pictures/music.
Here's what I did to migrate to my Skyrocket from my Captivate:
*Duh Alert* Have your original phone rooted and Titanium Pro installed.
Original Phone
1. Backup APK & Data with Titanium.
2. Locate where backup directory is on your phone. Mine was \sdcard\TitaniumBackup
3. Mount original phone and copy backup directory to your computer.
New Hotness
1. Root that bad boy. Search the site, its here.
2. Install Titanium Pro from market.
3. Back up 1 app, pick something silly. That will create the backup directory.
4. Mount the new hotness and copy your saved directory from your computer to the Skyrocket.
5. Restore apps. I did one at a time cuz I didn't want everything installed on the new phone.
95% of the apps and data restored properly.
Simplistic, yes....but it works. Go forth and multiply.
If you want the smoothest experience on your Skyrocket, do NOT use a backup tool to bring over apps, just reinstall them from the Market.
Copying apps and app date with a tool like Titanium does and WILL cause some issues.

To partially agree with you I tried using MyBackUp Pro and almost everything failed. That's what I deserve for buying that one first back in the day. BUT....Titanium worked great. All of my paid apps were as good as gold.
Plus, if you want your saved data, wouldn't you have to use a backup tool?

If your just trying to backup like game saves then sometimes. A lot of times that data can be backed up by just mounting your sdcard to your computer and copying the files. Some games do save the data in funny locations so you do need (easier) to use something like Titanium, but you are always better off starting from as scratch as possible to avoid issues later.
Moving an app to save you from entering your login info for example, is just a bad idea. Most apps have no real data to backup, simple 2 second settings etc....

i have found that most issues with TiBu are do to you trying to restore System Information......i used tibu to restore my apps on the Skyrockert. i just picked APPS only with out system data.
worked fine i have not seen a hickup on any device or install after a flash of new Rom.

TiBu works great, usually, for restoring NON-System apps and their data.
Avoid restoring system apps/data.
Also, if you do happen to run into a problem with a particular restored app, all you need to do is uninstall/reinstall it and then use TiBu to restore the "data only" for that app.
This has always worked for me.

Its basically the same phone, screen tiny bit bigger and it edges r round, and the. 3 faster CPU is not noticeable, and if u don't live in the handful of citys that have lte network what's the point by the time LTE gets fully activated skyrocket will be old phone something way better out, now if u didn't have the gs2 already if say hell ya but since u do wasted money IMO
I had an original Galaxy S Captivate that I just recently broke, and now they're sending me a new Skyrocket as a replacement. I had everything from the Galaxy S backed up through Titanium Backup on an external sd card that still works. When I get the new phone, after I root it and put TiBu on it, will I be able to restore the apps from the old phone onto it, or is there something in the backups that's phone specific?

Probably best to re download but it may work all the apps are built for multiple phones I can't see an issue as long as it doesn't store phone info

You "could" restore apps only and probably be fine (definitely do not restore apps+data). But with the new Market (I still refuse to call it the "Play Store"), it's really easy to go through the list of every app you've ever downloaded (even for the Captivate) and just re-install.
Unless you're talking about 100's of apps I recommend just doing a fresh install from Play Store. Every time I flash a new rom I just go through and re-install and it only takes about 3 or 4 minutes to re-install all 40-ish apps I use.
Ah ok. I didn't know the new market had that functionality. I'll definitely do that for the apps I can. I had some apps that weren't installed through the market, so that's the main reason I was wondering about restoring them through TiBu. I'll make sure to restore the app only and no data for those. Thanks!
