[Q] g2x wont run any oc/uv kernels - T-Mobile LG G2x

I have flashed all of the eagles blood Tom's even some other Tom's and they work with the exception. Of the new 1.05 eaglesblood that has Caucasian kernel cooked in. I tried flashing fauxs kernels separately and the only one that works is the stock voltage kernels eveeytime I try to do something that undervolts it wont take when I flash it. Is there any way to fix this or fwt it to work or does my g2x suck? Thanks for any help!

umm just turn in your g2x to someone that is qualified to use it.

What is a Caucasian kernel?
That ladies and gentlemen, is signature worthy.
Edit: Forgot to even answer your question amidst all this racial kernel profiling. Your G2x can't handle the OC/UV kernel, nothing you can do about it.

It's not that he's not qualified. A known issue is that some of the phone's can't support some of the features of other kernels so the phones won't boot. I started a thread about this and Faux chimed in affirming what I thought. It's a fault in the chip. Some can OC/UV, some can't.

Thanks hiko I thought I read something about that but what I don't get now is I flashed the Trinity kernel nd it sees the UV 1.1 in set CPU lol . Ill have to do more testing. As for the Caucasian kernel I blame racist correct lol

Yup. I have this problem. My broken G2x can run custom kernels on Stock. But my replacement G2x can't even get past the boot screen after flashing one. I can't run EB Froyo, and I can't flash faux's kernel unless it's on a Gingerbread ROM. It's pretty lame.

Dear OP. Wish I could help you. I do want to thank you for the laugh. Nothing personal. The typos made me spit out my coffee. It's been a long morning already, so I appreciate humor where I can find it.
As a couple have already said, not all phones are created equal. One of my phones would not OC and UV at the same time. I was able to hit 1300 stable on mine, but my wife, which has an identical setup, had issues at 1100. Faux released an overclock kernel without the undervolting. Have you tried that?

I have not as the overclocking was not as big of an issue as undervolting was for me. I cant get a single of fauxs kernels to run etx/GB/FR thats does oc/uv but the stock one does it just fine thats goes 1.0sv/1.2oc. the whole reason why i am confused though is i flashed morfics trinity kernel thats oc/uv at the same rate 1.1uv/1.5oc and it loads perfectly fine on my phone. Setcpu sees the standard at 1.1ghz max on autodetect, howeer i have not tried overclocking to anything more than that as i do not have any experience with making the textfile for setcpu to overclock it manually. im going to work on this soon but im hoping someones already made and posted this elsewhere on xda =D
PS: im on a computer this time and ill say this is better than my blackberry who decided to autocorrect "heterosexual" in place of "hey" everytime i tried talking to one of my friends but glad its good for laughs lol

I've consistently gotten Morfic to work as well. Faux said that Morfic hasn't released his source so he can't compare notes and see what's causing the issue.

i hope he does soon as i would love to try fauxs kernel as i hear more about it than morfics. morfics for now works fanfriggintastic for me though. m g2x ocs to 1400 without any problems at all on morfics however has some stability issues randomly at 1500 and i undervolt it always under 1.1 by 75 and runs perfect. battery life is currently at 60% still after 30hrs of use even after phone calls texts and internet usage. no games or heavy downloads yet though. <3uv and juicedefender

So many Roms/KERNELs

Why are you guys putting out so many roms and kernels, I can hardly get any "real" work done on my phone because I'm too busy testing out every new version of every new rom/kernel that comes out. Come on! I need some sleep to.
Well frankly I prefer a buffet where I can choose what I want rather than being told what to eat.

Well since you guys are soo experienced with different kernals let me ask you this question..
I just got my thunderbolt and I wanna root my phone and overclock it safely to 1.6g. So, which kernel would you recommend? BTW I AM A BIT OF A NOOB!! so please try and keep the terms as "noob friendly" as possibly haha. Thanks guys!
leanKernel supports 1.92 and BAMF will do up to 1.4, I believe.
Do you want sense? Run Perfect Storm roms with bamf kernel.
Do you want aosp? Run cyanogen with imoseyon aosp kernel.
Do you want sense removed? Run blackhole with bamf kernel.
OC to 1.92 I don't suggest, my phone locks up at that speed. OC to 1.4 stable.

I'm stock, rooted, running bang 4.4.5 kernel, and get 24+hrs from my extended battery (a must-have) might be weird, but I like Sense...
OK, so here's a (useful?) question/request to all you ROM addicts (I am not one, unfortunately!):
Is there (it would be nice if there was) a comparison of ALL kernels and ROMs to see which gets the best battery life on their Thunderbolt?
This would, obviously, have to be done by one person trying out different combinations of kernels and ROMs, as everyone has different usage patterns (and different batteries!! --each battery, it seems, behaves differently).
But I think it would be very helpful for many of us folks to have a good, consistent, complete, at least somewhat accurate comparison, as the battery issue seems to be probably the single largest issue affecting the most people with the TB.
Anyone?
Why do you need to overlook to 1.6? For being a noob, that's rather aggressive

I might root and then hang by until the CM arrives. Only had my Bolt about 10 days now, and want to see it in action untouched, (but also minus these bad network connections), if CM7 is indeed close i'm going to wait for it.

Faux Kernel or Trinity Kernel CM7

Currently on CM7 nightly 199, wondering which kernel I should use.. Has anyone here tried both?
Have you read teh last 5-10 ish pages from each kernel? Theres your feedback. All the phones are a little different, you have to try them out and see how they work for your phone.

I've tried both and on CM7 Nightly 199, I prefer morfic's Trinity kernel. For a while he didn't have the SOD patch like faux123 did, but now that he does I'm back on his kernel. I use the ELP kernel and I like his philosophy of "less is more".
Plus his kernels have CM7 CPU settings support, which I like since I prefer not to use 3rd party CPU apps, though I am currently enjoying Pimp My CPU a lot with all of its updates.
Thanks for the insight! I think I might flash Trinity. Is battery life better/the same as stock? I definetly dont wanna flash if its gonna be worse.

I believe both Trinity and faux123's kernel give better battery life, though I've never stayed with the CM7 kernel very long to know to what extent.
I have to agree with all the others. Both kernels tend to give slightly better performance with better battery life. I tend to lean more towards the Trinity kernel because the CPU adjustments can be modified through the CM settings.
I only say that for issues that crop up with people who post on that thread, and have not read this thread. I wasn't being mean or anything, you can get opinions here for sure, you can just view more detailed bugs or current issues on the thread itself. Maybe I was a little short, in wich I'm sorry... but I have tried both and my opinions will differ most likely in comparison to the way his phone will react to each kernel.
Wasn't trying to come off as an ass =) sorry if i did. that's just what I do to view day to day current updates/bugs.
But I can say I used to use trinity t11 that worked wonderfully, then I had issues and bugs on the new ones (t15 and betas) so now I'm on faux's ds version and I get a good battery life now.

Battery/Kernel Dilema Advice/assitance

Well the thing is I don't know wich kernel to pair up with Hellfire Phoenix 2.1 so far it's what I have liked the most.
The stock kernel gives funky battery readings, I tried trinity ELP kernel but my phone doesn't last much as I'd like it to maybe I'm asking for too much from my g2x.
So what I would like to know is what kernel should I try for the best battery lifespan I am normally using 4g with pandora but while giving it this use and texting from time to time /checking facebook it doesn't last me through half a day I start using the phone from around 6-6:30 Am and by 1 pm my phone is at 20%. I give it breaks of around 1-3 hours in wich I disable data/ I also keep sync and wifi disabled.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated and +Thanks will be given to those that are helpful
PS.I have yet to try Eaglesblood 2.3.7 is it worth compared to hellfire ?
Using data on the phone like Pandora and Facebook for one hour will drop my battery about 15-20% on 4g so, 5 hours worth is about normal in my opinion if you plan on doing that all the time I suggest extra batteries or extended. You're simply asking too much IMO!

Thought so "( Either way With what Kernel could I get the best out of hellfire phoenix 2.1? Also I'm confused on some things like with the trinity ELP kernel it says it's 1.1ghz/UC does that mean it is undervolted while being overclocked by 100mhz (just making sure) also in CM settings I have the option of setting the cpu speed.. now if I set it lets sayy 750mhz is it also undervolting it?
I'm sure I don't need 1ghz for the use I give it most of the time I could just change it back when I
m in the mood for gaming or does this scale depending on the task?
Sorry for so many questions I'm still new to this and I want to be sure of everything

I'd say either the kernel you have now or Faux UV version... look up the thread that shows "how to undervolt" (or something close) and go that route if you truly want to get the best battery life (I don't undervolt as I get the battery I need for my daily activities.)

So Faux123 Kernels are the ones people use the most for what I've seen.
I'm not sure wich faux kernel I have It says 2.6.32.56 CM7 Faux123-049, I checked the thread and latest is 0.48 soo I'm a bit lost there
I've also seen some people say they prefer the trinity kernel because it was released later.
I've tried both the stock Faux that comes with hellfire and the trinity I do not see any difference whatsoever in battery life or stability ( trinity does score significantly higher on benchmarks)
I could careless about benchmarks haven't ran one since I got this phone and oc'ed it to 1.5 to see what would happen... other wise they are just options some of our phones can't handle certain kernels... play with them and see which you like more. My only advice is faux cm version lol ds causes the funky readings.

faux 049b5 is for ICS roms, 048 is for GB roms. Don't mix them up or rom won't boot.
Doing anything on 4g will drain your battery much faster. If you can switch to 2g/3g networks while not using data, it can save a lot of battery power. Try Juicedefender ultimate also. It helps in toggling/switching options for you.
Every phone is different plus everyonez preferences/usage are unique. Best bet is to try both for a week or so and then decide for yourself.

This is unrelated but just throwing it out there. The Camera ICS+ works great I see an improvement in picture quality compared to the stock and the interface is lovely
Have you not been reading anything on any of these forum's?
I know your new to this ( as you stated) but you keep asking questions that can easily be answered by just searching and reading the forums,
i keep trying to help you by (doing the searching for you) but you just keep asking the same questions over and over,
you have like at least three different forums were you keep asking about kernal's ( and in several of them i have giving you links that should answer just about every thing you need to know about kernals) if you would actually just read them.
Im not trying to flame you... its just that you keep making new threads asking pretty much the same stuff, we can tell if someone is taking the easy way out and just saying that "they searched and didn't find any thing"
the people on here that would actually help you out, know better.
because they read the forums just about every day so we know how many forums that are out their, on subjects such as kernals, like the 3 threads you started asking about them.
so again read and most of your questions will be answerd...

He's right only reason I answered and didn't reply in this manner, was cause you typed out so much and I felt bad for you lol... If you answer I don't have time to read and such, then you shouldn't even have time to root the device. Laziness is pretty frowned upon on XDA. The more you read the more you would find out that everyone has different experiences with kernels. Try them out and figure it out on your own... if you have thread already about a kernel or a specific rom to choose stick to that thread and don't make a new one, as it just causes clutter for people that do use the search function, as when they search for something like "which kernel" they get

even more particular in the Hellfire 2.1 thread search "which kernel" and get this

not so hard!

Harsh kernel is the best kernel?

ok i have been using harsh kernel with aokp rom for about a week and i have had the greatest battery improvement. I literally get about with music playing throughout the day, constant texting, some calls, and some games; I get about a day and a half of battery and sometimes more. Idk if its just me but I was wondering is anybody else getting better results or the same results is there something better then what I got? Does the hellfire 1.6 have better battery or better performance then the aokp?
No one ROM or kernel is the best. They are all different and good in their own ways. If you're curious about if another ROM is better for you, the best way to find out is by flashing it. If your asking me, the best kernel for me is a custom built from source version of harsh without the overclocking and with done of nordics scripts and optimizations built in. I also love aokp build 29.
Now the next 20 posts can be 20 different roms and kernels just like every single other thread just like this one.

lol yeah morfic's (autocorrect is going to destroy this country) i build most of what i use from their sources, and i frequently mix and match things. its just something i do for myself. while i could release it out for people, not many would want to use what i have. i add alot of broken and ugly things to system apps. i even remove entire parts of the framework sometimes because i dont use them.
if you just want the best of both worlds (speaking of harsh and morfic's kernels) you can just flash morfic's then flash harsh's and you will get some of morfic's IO settings to stay behind.
im double posting on purpose, harsh has stated that people should not be flashing his kernel over morfic's
so im gonna retract my last post. if you want improvements, your gonna have to wait till he implements them.

I get through the day with moderate use... but when I am using it a lot, I am in the red by dinner time on HFS 1.6 with Faux kernel.
However, when i ran the Harsh kernel in HFS 1.5.. I had some real connectivity problems... I almost went back to 1.4, but then 1.6 came out and ruled.
If you are getting that good of batt life and no other problems- I would stick with it

SBC Sense Kernel

Hey do any of you know or know of a working SBC kernel. I know it has caused issues with some people but I have had very good luck on my EVO with it. Seems to me that my battery is suffering pretty bad now that I have rooted and used a new rom.
Thanks.
I'm not entirely sure what an SBC kernel is but i do know there are a couple of tweaked Sense kernels floating around this forum. Iirc, the newSENSE kernel should be stable enough for all 2.1 Sense based ROMs (don't quote me on that though).
What ROM are you currently running? Also, are you on the stock kernel or a custom one?
I think the only SBC kernel is Tiamat.

That I know of there are no SBC Sense Kernels for the Shift. If your having really bad Battery drain, you may want to look at what's going on with your system. You may have a Rogue app, or a bad wake lock. I would definitely check into that. Also if you want to know more about Kernels before you flashing one. You can check the Links below.

SBC stands for Superior Battery Charging.
Cool I will take a look I was running Supreme Sense and it seems to drain the battery super fast like I can't get a whole day out of it, I will check and see if something strange is going on with it.

What does cpu spy show? You can download anytime and it will tell you how long the processor was at a certain speed. Also when running overclocked that will chew up your battery pretty good, the kernel is undervolted to try to improve battery life while holding faster speeds, but it dont always work

Another thing to keep in mind is what Apps you have Syncing, and how often. For example Facedbook is a notorious battery killer. I also run Supreme Sense. On average I get between 12-14hrs out of a charge. As strapped mentioned, being OC'd very high will also eat up the battery. What Governor, and Scheduler are you using?

Ive heard mixed things about SBC, and how they can blow the phone up if its charged to long, or how it degrades the battery. Like you said to each his own though

Never really had any interest in SBC Kernels. But since this is the fourth post I've seen in about three days. I became interested, in finding out the advantages of SBC Kernels vs Non-SBC Kernels. The only things I've definitively found out are that, SBC Kernels offer more of a chance for problems if you do not know what your doing. The other is that there is a lot of debate as to the advantages of running an SBC Kernel.
WTF is SBC?

SBC stands for Superior Battery Charging. You can check out THIS thread for some info. Also the thread HERE has some more info.
EDIT: Just more info HERE.
I used an SBC kernel on the OG EVO for a bit and found a sight improvement with battery life. But the mentality (after doing lots of reading on SBC) of the damage it could be doing ,I ended up removing it real quick. Just freaked me out.
Some people claim to never have problems and some reports have come for exploding phones. Crazy debates.

I know what your saying. Huge debates back and forth whether it's worth running it or not. Some people swear by it. Others say stay the he'll away from it. I just flashed an SBC Kernel on the Test EVO4G to see what the deal is. But honestly it better be pretty Freaking awesome. Because running the Loinfish or Anthrax Kernel on the OG EVO easily will get you a day plus on one charge.

I'm still having good luck with them. But I did get a $25 gift card for Amazon. Which I'm thinking of using to get THESE from Anker.
EDIT : Thought some might also want to check out THIS THREAD on Kernels. Especially the post HERE on SBC Kernels.

Um nope! My ICS BFS kernel is not a i/o scheduler at all! It is the default kernel TASK SCHEDULER and it stands for Brain **** Scheduler

Ok thought you were asking. I did write Brain BTW, and the four astrixs stand for "fair" . But I will be the first to say I am not the most knowledgeable on Kernels. Just trying to share what I do know.
