Available Tablet comparisons - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I own a Xoom....about a month or so. Happy with it...no complaints with out mentioning..you know what and you know what.
My friend just pinged me about tablets. He's a Windows and Samsung guy and asked me about the Galaxy. He knows I have the Xoom and he had questions.
He has held my Xoom before, and his questions were in comparison to the Xoom.
I pointed him to bestbuy.com for pricing....then thought of Verizon and their supposed sales. I noticed that the new Tablet is not available for sale.
I'm assuming the "4g/LTE/When is the Xoom going to get it" hype has extended to the Samsung tablet as well. And though they probably won't have to send their devices back to get them updated like the Xoom, they aren't available on 4g right now with Verizon either.
Or did I miss something?
I understand the spec difference with the SDcard etc...thats not an issue. Just was curious about any word on why its not released yet...after the extreme hype and arguments on this forum just a couple of weeks ago....

A sincere and heartfelt "thank you" from a bona-fide n00b.

A quick background about me: I started looking at picking up a tablet around the end of December for my January birthday. I'm a huge Android fanboi, and have been toying around with/incessantly ROMing my rooted Droid1 for over a year now, so I wanted to step it up a notch and get a tablet that had a reasonably large development backing. And then I found out about the G-tablet. It seemed an almost unobtainable mix of top-of-the-line specs along with hackable software. I had to act on it. I convinced my mom that this was the ONLY thing I wanted for my birthday, and all that I asked for was a nominal (less than 1/4) assistance toward the purchase of the $380 device. She agreed, and I excitedly bought my G-Tab about a week and a half ago. Since then, I've been completely unable to tear myself away from this forum; the activeness of the development community here for the G-Tab is even greater than I imagined, and on an almost daily basis I find a new reason to spend more and more time here (hello Notion Ink ports/forthcoming Honeycomb ports!!!). You guys are seriously a wonderful and brilliant community. I'm sincerely thankful for the great group of people who are significantly smarter than me and are able to do incredible things with such an incredible piece of hardware. I got this device because it was about as hackable a piece of hardware as one could get, and while the development portion of that hackability could have led to a lot of frustration and disappointment, it has MORE THAN met my expectations. As a result, I've got a rooted, custom ROM'd device with a Hulu hack, full market hack, and Swype hack. I honestly couldn't have possibly extracted more value out of a $380 purchase in any theoretical world, and I attribute that all to you, the active developers here.
I know this is my first post and I'm a total n00b, but I really do appreciate what all of you devs have done here, and I wanted to let you all know that.
Thanks, sincerely.
Very nice first post and welcome to Gtab Android Heaven!
Thanks a lot :-D. I hope to one day contribute to this active and robust community. Cheers.
Welcome, not too many people ever say thanks, always *****ing about something not working. Some of these people here are scary smart!
If you have been molesting a droid for over a year, you are nowhere NEAR the n00b I was when I got my Gtab a few weeks ago. I had only seen a couple of droid phones in person, but I liked what I saw. Droid users I have shown my Gtab to have been really impressed with it. The most common comment is "damn that's fast!" (I am running Vegan and loving it.)
And you are so right about these fora, lots of sharp folks here with good instructions (if you are careful to follow them) for just about anything you might need to squeeze onto the tab. I also have yet to see anyone get ugly in a thread like you see in so many other places.
A supportive development community like this can change a lot of things and I am glad to have found it!
Nice post. I like you, was hardly active here at all until I discovered the g tablet. I have since been barely able to tear myself away from the g tablet forum here. A sincere thanks from me as well to the guys doing the hard work making these tablets what they are.

LOL! So true.
If you got half a lick of sense and take the time to do your research (before asking stupid or repetitive questions) this community will bend over backwards to help you. I spent about a year researching tablets and when the g-tablet hit this site I realized it's potential and knew it was time to dive in. I've never owned an Android device until buying the g-tab Mid December and the amount I've learned from the smart folks here is phenominal, and i still feel like a noob. Each day is a new learning experience. Kick back and enjoy the ride!
Im Another noob who has purchased a G-Tab because of the fact that so many of you Devs are doing such a great job with this tablet and sharing your efforts with all the rest of us noobs.
Up till around 2 months ago id had basically no contact with Android other than i knew it was a mobile phone OS by Google. Had never seen it, basically knew nothing about it other than its name.
I had been here to XDA before as i used to own a Dopod mobile phone, and i was using a windows mobile rom from here.
So i was so happy to see that the ipad had started a great new tablet trend (not a ipad fan, but realise if it wasnt for the ipad, the current trend may never have happened). So i was excited when Tablets started kicking off, always wanted one. So i started searching for an alternative to the ipad.
The first tablet i almost bought was a "WeTab", a German 11.6 inch made tablet, it sounded great on paper, great specs, but after i started reading the user reviews, i decided that it wasnt the right tablet for me. Weak touch screen and poor software support put me off.
So i kept looking for the right tablet to get, after a while i settled between either the Gtat, or the Archos. I wanted a 10 inch and these both looked like great tablets. The software review for the G-tab were not good at all, but the hardware specs looked better to me than the Archos.
Since ive been using PC's for almost 20 years now i knew full well Viewsonic was a good brand name, and even if they didnt manufacture the products, it was the quality that went with the name that made me consider the G-tab.
But it wasnt till i checked XDA to see if you guys were doing anything with the G-tab that i realised that thanks to you guys the weak ended software side of the G-tab was not a real issue. That you guys had taken the G-Tab and made it a monster in the jungle
I ordered 1 from Amazon, which i learned i could by one from a thread here, and around 2 weeks later it turned up. Ive been having a ball messing with it ever since, Android is great, and you guys make it even greater.
Sorry if i rambled a bit here but i just wanted to say "THANK YOU" for all you guys have done for myself and the rest of us noobs
Echoing the thank yous as the community is the reason I got this tablet when I did.
Yeah, echoing as well. I bought the device only after I knew that you were out there to make the software issue into a non-issue. I use my tablet only a daily basis for both my work and my pleasure. I wouldn't be able to do either without the great stuff you guys have done. Much appreciated.
Another me to reply. Forgot where i first saw the gTab, but after reading here for a couple of weeks, i found mine at Sears for $379, plus the rebate for the free dock.
Without all of the tremendous resources on this forum, i would have missed out on this journey. I have tried all of the ROMs, and have settled on the Vegan 5.1b rom for now.
Thanks again to all of the developers, and to the non-developers, this would not have bee possible without your persistence in testing these roms and asking the what if questions.
I'll echo the same sentiment. Frankly I would probably not have bought the gtab if I had not come across this forum and all the people here who have been working to make it a better product.
Thx to all of you.
I also would like to add a big thanks for all this incredible info & apps.these dev have added to the gtab and other devices. Again Thanks, J.
Stock gTab.
Gonna go ahead and throw out my THANKS to the Devs here and those all around XDA. I have spent more time on XDA since getting my Hero a year and a half ago, then my Evo when it came out, and now wasting away on my G Tab. Wife loves the tab so much I had to get her one. Both of ours were rooted the day we got em.. entirely because this community!
I look forward to seeing what the next big rom is for the G Tab! (Running VEGAn now, hopefully someone releases a Honeycomb rom in the next couple weeks!!)

General Question on Phone Announcement to Retail

Hey everyone, happy Monday,
I have a quick question about the amount of time it takes for a phone to be announced to when it goes to retail/pre-order. The reason I ask is because my family (8 people) will be switching to Sprint from Verizon (my dad is sick of their billing and customer service) and we are going to get 4 smartphones. Being the tech geek of the family, I really want to make these smartphones the new phones being announced on the 25th. We are switching over in April, and I'm hoping to be able to smooth talk a manager about getting the new phones when they come out, but I know he will deny any offer if they come out during or after the summer.
Any answer/tips for smooth-talking a Sprint store manager?
What? I dont quite understand what you're asking. If the phone isn't released you can't get it, just because they announce it doesn't mean certain people can just go buy it.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
Yea...after I read it over, I didn't make much sense.
So here's my situation as simply as I can explain it. There are a few new phones coming out at CTIA that I am going to purchase.
My question is, how long does it normally take for a phone to go to a retail store for consumers to buy AFTER they have been announced.
Ex. The kyocera echo (only phone I can think of right now) was announced in Jan/Feb and is going to start being sold in April.
I was hoping if someone could give my a more specific date as to when the new phones at CTIA were going to be sold (Evo 3D, may atrix for Sprint).
I hope that clears things up, and If it doesn't, then I'm going to sleep and rethink how I word things.
@FLAC Vest: it's perfectly clear - the OP is wondering how long it takes for a phone to go from being announced to being able to buy or at the very least pre-order it.
The OP's family are hoping to switch to Sprint and get some of the new handsets they're about to announce in a couple of days time, so the OP is wondering when it's likely they'll be available.
@the OP: it varies device to device.
On one hand you have Apple, who have the iPhone on sale a couple of weeks after announcing it - albeit in limited markets.
They do this by delaying the announcement as long as possible and also because of their relatively slow product refresh cycle.
With other manufacturers it's very hit and miss.
Some like Sony Ericsson have a poor track record, having taken nearly a year in the past to get a handset to the market (though in fairness to the, nearly a year after it was leaked, not announced).
Samsung are improving but have had their share of delays, like the original Galaxy S which took a number of months to be released after it's announcement.
Generally I'd say it's around a month or two from announcement to release but sometimes phones are delayed unexpectedly.
However if a handset is exclusive to a particular network, that can sometimes speed it up a wee bit as the manufacturer is only having to supplier one company, not a miscellany of competing networks.
There's a good chance that when Sprint make their announcement, they'll also announce an expected release date.
That should give you more of an idea.
Thanks Step you
a) made me much more confident that I wasn't going insane and typing in gibber-gabber
b) answered my question completely, even above and beyond A+
Now I can only hope that the Evo 3D or Atrix will come out on sprint before/during May
BTW: Do you think anyone here knows how to sweet talk a manager?

Question about gtab and tech mainstream websites

Why aren't mainstream tech websites mentioning the gtab? It didn't even make it to most of the top 10 lists. Is there a conspiracy to downplay the effectiveness of the gtab once it's rooted and flashed? I've used the update viewsonic provided and even that has made the gtab totally awesome.
I'm just puzzled why the modding and hacking communities are the only ones recognizing the potential and power of this machine. None of the tech websites is mentioning anything about the potential behind this tablet. It's mind boggling. Even viewsonic has decided to stop supporting it. Why?

Cnet, PC magazine, mobile magazine and PC world have. It seems they have Apple stock they are banking on so they are plugging ipad. Notice every other commercial was ipad now its Xoom.
Those type entities like to cattle-herd consumers in certain directions for maximum profitability of those who are paying for advertising on their sites. GTab is a sleeper tab and although they down played it many are still buying as of late in mass quantity. It is selling by word of mouth by satisfied buyers. The very best advertising the kind you don't have to buy. Interesting to watch them change their reviews. Check out cnet for a laugh.
I think primarily because it doesn't come from one of the "big" companies like Motorola, Samsung, or HTC. There wasn't much of a push by Viewsonic advertising wise to put this thing in the spotlight and when it first came out it was lamented for it's poor viewing angles and horrible custom UI. Sure the product has improved immensely since launch by way of updates and custom ROMs but it's hard to shake off that initial impression. Right now many people see it as just another android 2.2 tablet.
It's all about Marketing, I'm sure. The Xoom is a media darling because Motorola has paid lots of money to make sure of that -- ie. the Superbowl commercial.
And Apple's Marketing juggernaut is legendary.

What do you mean? I just went to it. Didn't see anything different.
Here's an example of how much the GTAB is ignored
GTAB has had OTG access since Day One, even with the crappy software. The Xoom did not, when it was released.
So, I happened to find an OTG cable in my Bag of Carp and ported the GTAB config changes and init changes to the Xoom. I am not a dev by any means, but it was fairly easy to do, given my experience here - maybe an hour of work to port, test and then release.
The darn thing ended up on Engadget. The ONLY mod I've ever done that's made it to Engadget.
As happy as I was to see it get advertised, I had to scratch my head and wonder why my other mods, which required a LOT more work, and even the rest of the developers here have gotten zero recognition on sites like that. I know gojimi made it to Engadget once, but it was due to his Adam apps that he ported, not his GTAB ROMs.
Maybe the Woot! sale and subsequent $299 sales will finally give the GTablet the visibility it deserves.
I wonder if the larger "mainstream" publications shy away from anything ROM related (and probably root too).
I'm a woot-er waiting for mine still, but from all I've read, TnT out-of-the-box pretty much sucks and you have to be willing to do the flashing, etc to get it to a more useful state. So, since it's not a good tablet without a newly flashed ROM, this isn't really a great device for the general consumer.
That said, I'd think you'd see it get more play on more techy oriented websites that wouldn't be avoiding discussion of ROMs.

They haven't taken any notice of the woot deal, either when it was on, or now, even w the 10k sales in one day. Funny thing is when the Samsung Galaxy players went on sale in Korea, and apparently sold 10k in one day, that made news all over the place. That should tell you everything.

The last OTA actually made it faster and more functional. I would say to anyone getting a new gtab to give the stock a shot for a day or two. I was a totally different experience from when I first picked up a gtab to playing withe the latest OTA at office Max this weekend.

G tablet #1 selling tablet on Amazon

Did you see the tweet from viewsonic? G tablet outselling both ipad 2 and Xoom. Heh. Viewsonic owes this community because without the developers here this would have never been possible. Thank you guys! I love my g tablet,.....now. There is a link in their tweet to an article about it (didn't know if I could post, let me know and I will post the link)

Sweet! And there is whole bunch of us who got it from Woot too. The community here is amazing and to think that about a week ago many of us thought that there wasn't much life left for our g-tabs.
Viewsonic put out a winner here, well with a little help from a modded rom and kernel and this thing is fast and pretty awesome IMO.
I'm following @viewsonic on twitter, and, just received the tweet a little while ago. I retweeted adding "Thank the modders". Heh.
I am hopeful that with the additional sales Viewsonic will continue to support this tablet as Nvidia has said they will support Harmony based devices as long as the manufacturers do (or something like that) Don't disappoint us VS.

I've been saying for months that VS is sitting on a goldmine in regard to their gtab. It's absolutely mind boggling that they seem to still be hesitant to cash in this goldmine. I don't understand why VS is so reluctant to endorse their own very popular product.
Edit.
It still seems like VS is trying it's darnest to promote the viewpad over the gtab even though hardly anyone even pays attention to the viewpad.

I wrote them that they were leaving money sitting on the table back when HC first came out and after the woot sale. All this tab needed was a solid OS. The article said it was beating ipad in sales and that it is set to win sleeper tab of the year. lol
Viewsonic has spent 1% on advertising the article said with most advertising coming from users like us and the boatload of youtube videos. The words they used was "went viral". Too funny!

I've been trying to figure out for months why the hell VS released this gtab and decided to let it go quietly into the night and die. I'm willing to bet the new found popularity this tablet enjoys has come quite a surprise to them. Did not one of their marketing personnels see this coming?
And again, they are still trying their darnest trying to promote the viewpad while seemingly hoping for the gtab to die a quiet death. I just went around their website again and the feel is still the same. Their not-so popular viewpad remains their #1 focus even though it's not really bringing in any money. The gtab, on the other hand, is raking in the dough. When are they going to realize their mistake and start loving their forgotten son, the gtab?

Viewpad 7 is now $299 wasn't it just $499 about 15 days ago? It doesn't support flash 10.1 is what the write up is saying.

Yup. And still nobody is buying it. Some genius up high in VS decided to keep endorsing the failed products viewpad 7 and 10 while keep ignoring their succesful gtab. Let's face it, nobody wants a sluggish windows 7 atom processor in a tablet. I mean, what the hell are we going to do with it? Might as well get a netbook. Windows 7 was never designed for a mobile device like a tablet. And who the hell wants a 7 inch tablet that costs $500?
No wonder viewsonic ain't moving up the food chain any time soon. They got idiots running the show.
Edit.
Here's a video review of the viewpad 10. You can tell that the speaker was desperately trying to look for good things to say about the viewpad 10. Android 1.6? Windows 7? It's no good for anything.
That video was pretty sad. Is it me or is it thick as hell? The funny part was when he said it was quite responsive and it didn't move when he touched it. What does anyone need a dual boot tab for? I don't get that. Anyway next month they could be $199.
The commercial for the 7th inch has a guy holding it to his ear to make a call. Just put a Bluetooth earbud in his ear. He looked crazy with that big tab to his ear. Talking about the quickest route to brain cancer. The advertising for that device sucked.

But if you look around a bit you will see that VS must have been spending a fortune pushing the viewpads. They even made a bunch of videos and posted them on their website.
In other news, I'm starting to get the over capacity window thing for xda. Looks like xda is under seige again by wooters and amazoners.
Edit.
Half of the videos out there officially made for the gtab were criticisms of the gtab not being responsive because of the TnT UI. And yet in this video this guy was giving it a positive review even though he had to restart the OS to get a response.
The viewpad 7 and 10 are a total failure. VS should realize this and stop ignoring the gtab.

You can install a full Linux distro on it! I think that the latest version of Ubuntu has touchscreen support. I purchased a second g-tablet from Woot just to put Linux on it. But nVidia seems to have suspended Linux support for the Tegra line. If the Viewpad prices keep falling, I may have a g-tablet for sale, and then I will get a Viewpad!
Amazon currently lists the tablets in this order of popularity (4/21/11/ 17:22):
#1 ViewSonic g-tablet
#2 Motorola Xoom
#3 Apple iPad2
EDIT: The Viewpad 7 has an ARM11 processor. Not as easy to install Linux on that one.

My opinion of the Verizon 10.1 galaxy tab Verizon 4g lte version only.

You wonder why I post this, I get it. Personal experience warrants that I tell you about this Verizon tab.
Locked bootloader
No netflix
No skype for front camera
And this is my basis to start this frustration rant. Either Samsung or the android os in general is not popular enough to push these technologies to be developed for the latest and greatest droid device and honeycomb.
Please understand I love droid and am anti ipad/apple. But the fact is I bought an ipad2 last night and I am doing all the things I can't on the Samsung.
Don't tell me to sideload anything. It simply does not work on the Verizon model. I want to root but no support has been lended to me and many others on this and many other droid sites. Including the Samsung forum site.
If there appears to be a way to root, then no one has a reversing flash for it.
In general, new technology or not, the apps should be there. When paying the equivalent price of an ipad the android tab should blow the freaking doors off apple. I've got em both right here and the ipad2 just kicked the bajesus out of this 10.1
Proprietary skiz and all for nothing more than me being able to log in get apps and have them work without bootlegging, voiding warranties and sideload this and that.
now before you go calling me a troll or a hater...
I have a
Dx2 and so does my wife
I hada first gen droid and ran chevy ss
Xoom
Samsung galxy 10.1
And now because droid is not "mainstream" enough a damn apple ipad2 in my house. What the hello, droid os is now officially pissing me off. I know that it is not the os fault but, really I disagree. If droid was selling tabs at half the rate of apples ipad then this freaking rant would never have been written and my azz would never considered looking at a freaking lemming apple ipad anything.
Maybe somebody here knows somebody that will forward this along because this kind lf crap right here. Droid developers not taking availability of apps seriously is what killed IBM in the 80's by thinking home pcs in every house was a farce.
droid development needs to lobby payoff incentavize whatever the hello they need to do to get service providers to write for droid if they want to command a price equal or greater than apple.
please do whatever you do agree or disagree but do not attack me personally or belittle my intelligence. I am neither a kid or dummy. I like technology but I do not like beating my head against the wall trying hours in vain to get something to work just to find out it won't.
I could go on but Why?

to the OP.....you do understand the difference between "Droid" and Android, right? "Droid" is just Verizon's marketing campaign for SPECIFIC android devices (Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Incredible, Samsung Droid Charge). MOD EDIT: REMOVED OFFENSIVE WORDS. you purchased a carrier specific tablet, not a WiFi model. therefore, development for said device will only move forward considering more people decide to buy it. theres plenty of development for the WiFi version of the GT10.1.
as for locked bootloaders.......actually, Samsung doesn't ever lock bootloaders, from what i understand. HTC has been known to, and Motorola is notorious at it. Samsung and i believe LG have the easiest exploits when it comes to rooting.
BTW, the Honeycomb source code hasn't been released for any device, probably not until ICS drops.

Really? Are you serious? Droid, Android,,,,, again Really? Yes I do understand that a droid is a phone and android is an operating system. Did you not see the reference to honeycomb etc..? Forgive me I don't mean to be disrespectful......this is just not the kind of response I'm looking for.
I'm sorry if my abbreviations confused you.
For locked bootloader again not an idiot the bootloader is locked. is that really a surprise dealing with big red. Samsung is doing what they are told I guess. Not only is the bootloader locked don't flash this puppy with odin or you will be unable to wipe or return to virgin setup.
PERIOD! at least with the current means and methods on the net.
Samsung wifi models some were shipped with unlocked bootloaders but not Verizon models. Again! I am only referencing the 4g model so any other make model manufacturer is completely irrelevant.
I have had 3 of these in my hands they are all on lockdown. They also are telling people 4g must be activated to get owner registration......the first one I returned doa to the selling dealer but big red corporate would not exchange it because I didn't HVE 4g turned on so in their system I didn't even show owning the product.
I could go on and on.
point is everything in the original post in 100% true and accurate and knowledge from my personal hands on experience.
I am hoping that someone takes it personally and gets some interest in mastering this device. I pretty much root all my devices but after bringing my first one Bck to lofe 4 times and never getting superuser I am in a holding position until full accurate knowledgable instructions on how to unlock bootloader, backup, root, unroot. I am waiting.
Truth again, the post was not about rooting but the fact that the android development team had better start using some power in their speech to people like skype, netflix, and any other major player on behalf of us the people that buy android devices or we are and are gonna continue to be pissed if they don't get it and that means we will buy other peoples stuff ya know,,,the whole supply demand free market concept?...
Especially when I go pay the same price for an ipad2 and all the skizz I want is a click away for free and with no effort or time wasted in a forum on why my stuff doesnt offer main stream popular sh#%!

to the OP.....you do understand the difference between "Droid" and Android, right? "Droid" is just Verizon's marketing campaign for SPECIFIC android devices (Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Incredible, Samsung Droid Charge). . you purchased a carrier specific tablet, not a WiFi model. therefore, development for said device will only move forward considering more people decide to buy it. theres plenty of development for the WiFi version of the GT10.1.
as for locked bootloaders.......actually, Samsung doesn't ever lock bootloaders, from what i understand. HTC has been known to, and Motorola is notorious at it. Samsung and i believe LG have the easiest exploits when it comes to rooting.
BTW, the Honeycomb source code hasn't been released for any device, probably not until ICS drops.

One last thing. To pick up on one keyword "droid development" while overlooking the entire context of the post after in that same post disclaiming that I did not want anyone to attack or belittle me and you then state that I appear IGNORANT? Well maybe it will to some, but, what you just did makes you appear far worse. Imho...

You wonder why I post this, I get it. Personal experience warrants that I tell you about this Verizon tab.
Locked bootloader
No netflix
No skype for front camera
And this is my basis to start this frustration rant. Either Samsung or the android os in general is not popular enough to push these technologies to be developed for the latest and greatest *droid* device and honeycomb.
Please understand I love *droid* and am anti ipad/apple. But the fact is I bought an ipad2 last night and I am doing all the things I can't on the Samsung.
Don't tell me to sideload anything. It simply does not work on the Verizon model. I want to root but no support has been lended to me and many others on this and many other *droid* sites.
I hada first gen *droid* and ran chevy ss
Xoom
Samsung galxy 10.1
And now because *droid* is not "mainstream" enough a damn apple ipad2 in my house. What the hello, *droid* os is now officially pissing me off. I know that it is not the os fault but, really I disagree. If *droid* was selling tabs at half the rate of apples ipad then this freaking rant would never have been written and my azz would never considered looking at a freaking lemming apple ipad anything.
Maybe somebody here knows somebody that will forward this along because this kind lf crap right here. *Droid* developers not taking availability of apps seriously is what killed IBM in the 80's by thinking home pcs in every house was a farce.
*droid* development needs to lobby payoff incentavize whatever the hello they need to do to get service providers to write for *droid* if they want to command a price equal or greater than apple.
please do whatever you do agree or disagree but do not attack me personally or belittle my intelligence. I am neither a kid or dummy. I like technology but I do not like beating my head against the wall trying hours in vain to get something to work just to find out it won't.
I could go on but Why?

look above....i didnt just pick out ONE time you used "droid" to describe something that runs android. so yeah....you sound REALLY ignorant. You literally used "Droid" 10 times
and regarding bootloaders:

all i had to do was google "galaxy tab 10.1 LTE Recovery"....do you know how to google something??
so yeah.......
I'm surprised that you have been allowed to start a thread which expresses your own personal opinion. I've had a thread removed to the Off-Topic Forum because I did that.

I've seen the post and it works but it doesn't return the device back to stock. also again you fail to see where rooting was not the point of the above post. It was one point out of many.
So I was in a hurry and didn't put an in front of droid each time. I did however say
Droid device
Droid os
Etc..
To a common sense individual they got it.
To someone interested in ignoring the subject, offering no solution, as I am guessing you are not a developer, and being negative you Win!
I'm ignorant yea you win now please go away.
So glad we got that straight.
Bye bye now.

But if you have a custom recovery, couldn't you just make a cwm backup when you first get it? Then that would return it to stock when you restore that backup.
They don't drop source code for honeycomb. That's just how they do it.
you further perpetuate the misconception that "Droids" are anything with Android on it. It's bad enough when people who know nothing of rooting and such call it "Droid". But you're on xda.
And I've contributed to the community a lot more then you have man. You've only offered this rant.
And every post, on here, I've still offered some sort of answer or advice.
Don't be one if those people that come on here to demand people to develop for the device you bought. Be happy with what is offered and have patience. All you accomplished on your OP is sounding like a jackass with buyers remorse.
And GTFO with your iPad.
For some reason no you cannot flash cwm. Theres a ton of people posting on this and why it sends the tab into a bootloop. There are also multiple post on this forum and others where people are asking for the stock image due to this.
There is also a post where rooting instructions are clear and precise. One problem. The links are broken and no longer valid.
I do not further perpetuate anything. You may perceive it that way because you have the inability to look at a forest instead of a frikken tree.
I have stated enough times that I do understand that Android is an O.s. and that "droid" is a phone device produced by motorola, although I never mentioned moto.
Geez.. Also I stated in my OP that I bought the ipad2 for comparison. I do not want the ipad2 as I have invested way too much in market apps and gmail to start the wallet all over with apple apps. However, now that I have an ipad2, I dont hate it. It's a good machine. If that makes me bad then ok, whatever.
My first post was done largely abbreviated and maybe i didnt convey my points or angle well enough. I'll concede that but, I was typing on my samsung tablet and was just trying to get some action on the topic. The last thing I wanted was for someone to make it their mission to point out what was wrong line by line but, hey whatever.
Simply put just in case my original post was written ineffectively on my tablet. I am on my desktop now and the keyboard is much more effective than trying to type a letter on the tablet, let me reexplain my op.
Simply put,
I prefer the Android O.s.
I like the samsung tablet.
The memory, processor, flash, a million things I see potential in.
However, when I analyze something I also analyze as if or from a consumer standpoint and maybe not so much a dev. standpoint.
By this alone I think that the people/powers that be need to wake up and push the big boys like skype, netflix, etc... to make apps that will be compatible with the latest and greatest release of not only the O.s. but the hardware devices that come from HTC, Moto, Samsung, lg, etc....
In order to get mass appeal from consumers ****e is gonna have to work or people will opt for what does work.
Right now the samsung 10.1 wifi's only work netflix on some platforms not all.
Right now the samsung 10.1 wifis and lte models will not do skype with the front cam.. so no video on either side.
ALSO TRUE FOR XOOM
These are just 2 apps but, they are "THE" two apps that alot of people converting to tabs are wanting.
Contrary to popular belief most people buy tabs to eff off with. They are not hot like a laptop, they surf relatively well, but everyday consumers want to skype, netflix, check email, all of it.
They do not want to be in front of a desktop with their tablet hooked up via usb hacking and sacking the images, custom roms, etc... That is a few of which I am one of but, even I grow tired and frustrated when I brick ****e and screw it up but, really, just to get netflix loaded. No way man, I want to click and install enter my username and watch my son watch his movies.
Yeah its fun getting them working again but, with this thing.......It's all for nothing. I still dont have the full potential of this device because it simply will not do it.
Apple ipad2 does both of these out of the box with no trickery. Just search and download.
That may not be a problem for you as a senior member and expert at going thru the work of sideloading apps etc...... but, for mom at the grocery store. She's gonna pick what works with the click of a button.
Android devices and The Android O.s. developers are going to have to be compelled to make the ****e work on their devices if they want to take the sales to the next level. This is not my opinion at all. This is just fact. You can have a great hardware device and a sporty o.s. but, if there is no software available for it, or apps in this case then you have nothing and you certainly dont have buyers for it.
Ipad sales compared to android type tab devices are not even in the same universe. Ipad sales are smashing Android based tabs. Not because they have been out longer either.
Why is that? Well people are sheep for one! I get it but, how does Android smash Apple? Well they do it by #1 advertising, #2 being better (measurably), (which I believe they already are) , but they also have to, have to, have to, offer at least what the ipad will do and more.
Come on man, I'm not asking for the world here.
To be better when you are the underdog you have to be twice as good. NOt from a hardware standpoint but, from all of it. Cosmetics, function, hardware, cost, more apps, better graphics. etc...
Android has done most of this but, not all of it. The apps lacking in the market have got to catch up immediately or people will continue doing what they have been doing. Buying ipads
Again, this is what the post was about. You just think that Android and hardware is good now. Get them (the Android stiffs) the revenue stream that Apple has and then we will "really" see some cool stuff.
this may be the one negative about open source. If the people making the apps and the people making the devices, and the people making the upgrades to the O.s. are not all working together then Android will not be "THE" player, they will just be "A" player in the sea of other players.
I am also not demanding anyone develop for my specific tablet. I really dont care if they do or not. But, if that is the attitude of a tablet that is supposed to be "THE" tablet for the Android flagship right now, that's a bad attitude or stance for them to take when basic apps are not even offered or if they do they will not work. Not exactly how your gonna get susie away from the apple store. Again, this is simply about marketing, and retail appeal.
Develop, dont develop, the market wins only players lose.
On a personal note.
By the way, I have not one time condemned or attacked you. You have insisted on calling me names and being sarcastic to me each time you post. Please let me say that it was not my intent to offend you. This post was not about you or the fact that you help people or dont help people on this site.
I would like you to stop calling me ignorant and telling me to GTFO and such about an ipad, after I said that I was pro android.
I will say one thing about the comparison of the 2.
Apple kicks the samsung on two major things:
Keyboard does not lag on apple. I am always backspacing corrections on the samsung.
Apple has apps, our android market does not.
Now I'll compare the Xoom and The Samsung 10.1
I like the xoom better. At least netflix works on it.
However, skype does not so Apple still wins in flexibility of apps.
I like the hardware and acceleration of the samsung 10.1 over all of them.
I am not sure what gives on the keyboard lag? Sucks.
This is exactly why I placed in my original post that I was not hating on Android and I did not want personal attacks.
I am asking you to please stop. I am not interested in name calling.
Continue if you must but, I will not engage in calling you names.
At all
Please keep discussion on topic and do not use offensive words

Well put Android os is really getting old with exclusive apps for certain devices or with verizon with there own app store. Don't they know they would make more Money releasing to everyone duh. If a old ass iphone 4g can play high end games why not my duel core sensation ? Or in your case the tablet.

Netflix is not in the market but there is an apk for it now and it works!
Skype folks say they are working on a solutionno time commitment though.
Clockwork and roms still limited but will come in time hopefully.

In reply to all three: BULL****! I have had a Verizon Galaxy Tab 10.1 for many months and:
1. The bootloader is not and was not ever locked
2. Netflix patch was trivial to install (and it runs great)
3. Skype does support the front camera (as of its most recent release a couple months ago)
Other than that, rooting the device was just as simple as installing Netflix.
