Holy Crap, SD card wiped?! - Thunderbolt General

So, there I was happily running Sense 3 Pr4 and Dream Kernel 2.0.3 with the MR2.5, decide to reboot my phone before bed to let it charge at a decent rate, starts just booting over and over. Hits lockscreen, freeze, reboot. Annoyed I figure, ok, I'll go flash the kernel again, flashes pretty instantly, odd, but whatever, reboot... loops. So fine, I'll do a full recovery.... no recovery files... ok, I'll wipe data etc and install my rom zip off the card... [bad]. WTF? put the sd card in my laptop, all the folders are on my sd card, but noooo files, and the couple files that are left are 0kb, what the hell happened to all my stuff? any advice or help? Pretty please? got a recovery software, gonna see what I can salvage, but what happened here?!

i dont think that i have heard of this before. not with phones at least. sounds like ur card got formatted or something. u should be able to reformat the card and install all the roms, file system, etc u need from ur computer. it might be worth it to try to put some stuff on the card from ur computer to see if it will take. maybe a bad card ??? im not sure there is a complete reformat type of recovery out there. good luck.

Yep, I swear it has something to do with the modded USB Mount apk. I have heard of this happening a few times now.
I try to keep a backup of my SD on my lappy.

Never really thought of this happening, definitely gonna be backing up from now on. Got back some pics, but lost camera videos of the kids, unrecoverable.

Okay, so here was I trying to do the app to sd and I was doing it using Terminal because my laptop does not give me permision to partition..I was at the last step which was basically to do the partition...I got some sort of mistake and the notification bar asked to format the sd, which I was forced to.....then I started getting a message that my sd card is damaged...so I took my sd card out turned off my phone and now my phone does not leave the g1 screen I tried taking out the battery and nothing...I have the latest radio and I did the Nandroid back up but that is pretty much all to waste since I formatted my sd

You can boot the G1 while holding the camera button and press back to go into fastboot mode and restore your data or you can hold home+power and do a wipe... and properly format your sd and try again.
the problem is that when I do fastboot there is nothing in the sd because I originally formatt it...my sdcard is blank and I cannot mount it because I cannot get into the g1..
I think my only solution is by a push through adb..
Can you hold home while powering on to get into the bootloader?
If you can, go into the console (or use adb shell). From there, you should be able to delete the symlinks that point to the SD.
I assume it's not booting because you symlinked parts of the internal flash to SD card, but sd card doesn't exist.... but I've never actually tried apps on SD, so I have no idea .
wow..it is getting really strange...I just took off the battery and the G1 screen stayed on....aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh....this is weird..*

The screen holds colors after it's powered off, it's normal. It fades away slowly.

lol did you unplug the A/C if not then thats why. If you have a card reader just move the update.zip and if you don't boot into recovery and do a wipe without the SD plugged in. Then put it back or format the sdcard and next time save the backup to your pc before.
how can I push an update.zip through adb shell?? thats my only hope...or how can I restore through spl?? I am able to get through fastboot...and I did a wipe and that did not help...since I can't do no update.zip..or anything..

Fastboot does not require a sdcard. Just flash a working boot.img, system.img, and userdata.img thats stored on your computer.
if u go into the recovery menu (home+power)
and do a wipe (alt+w)
it will erase the symlinks and restore you to the original rom without the symlinks to ur sd card but to the internal flash...
^^^what do I do after that....I need to use ADB to push it?? and if I do a fastboot how do I push the system file??? by adb??
Can you explain why you can't fastboot the backup to your phone?
okay, when I go to fastboot...I press back to fastboot and then the action button...and then what??

^^NO!!
and nevermind..I solved the problem...I was having a major problem with my usb reading my phone and my micro card...I had to install the files for Microsd...which was a hassle to find it...so that I was finally able to flash the update.zip...Fastboot was not working....I kept on getting an error message..but thank God I finally got my phone to work...

I could really use a hand with this pickle

okay, so i've found myself in a bit of a pickle. Recently I've been running the CM7 nightly's, but today I tried out the RoyalGinger rom and I believe it either corrupted my SD card or it's blocking my SD card from being used/read.
Tried several times to reformat it but each time it said 'checking SD card', but the weird thing is I have an active wireless connection, but I'm not getting texts. I can download from market, get on Facebook, etc, but my texts won't come in until I reboot the phone. A few times I booted it up and it wouldn't allow me to even see my homescreen because it'd pop up with EVERY app force closing (including google services, framework, etc), I was able to get back to my homescreen by clearing by Dalvik Cache luckily, however I'm still unable to do most anything. I went in to wipe/restore but it says cannot find SD card, directory invalid, cannot mount, etc.
Is there a way to reformat my SD card through terminal? If so could I get the code procedure for it? or anyone have any ideas other than picking up a new micro (which isn't a big deal but I'm strapped on money til Friday) but i'd still prefer to know that it's JUST my SD card and not my phone memory. Anyone? Anyone? Beuler? Beuler? Thanks in advance. I'm really sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, but c'mon, everyone gets one.
Ok so do u have a stock backup rom? Ide say go to rom manager and go to recovery and whipe etc.. Then install that stock back on it.....And can ur sd card even read at all? Just get any.file manager and check your sd.

I think I have a backup rom of CM6, but not an actual android stock rom. It won't allow me because it says 'must have an SD card inserted' then it says must have clockwork mod recovery installed, which I do, the current version. Now that it says that I'm afraid to boot my phone into recovery, and I can't really tell if my SD card will read. I was able to use my file manager and the entire SD folder is blank.
ten minutes later: still boots into recovery, none of my backups are available on it. I was thinking about downloading a rom from the phone and trying that way, but I don't know if it'd save to the (apparently unreadable) SD card.
Ok try this...... Find out what recovery you use 3.0.0.5 or the normal 2.5.1.4 for froyo then download a rom thats the same recovery as the one u have on it right now...... If its the same as your cyanogenmod 6 then install that from the recovery manually!!!
if its not then download a rom that is and make sure you use a file manager to see if the download sticks in your sdcard. And if it doesnt stick then......your problem sir might be a corrupted sdcard, or a phone that cant read your sd.
Hope its not either or, so give it a shot.....
And ur supposed to have a stock backup as soon as you root and switch roms man Lol makes life easier

It sounds like he doesn't have access to his sdcard. It doesn't matter how many backups you make if that's the case...
If you happen to have a sdcard reader or a microsd usb adapter you could format it in windows, copy the files you need, and start again. Also did you try connecting to your pc and seeing if it's readable that way? You can format the card if your pc recognizes it. If you have adb set up you can push the recovery image to the phone without a sdcard. But once again without a working sdcard you won't be able to flash a new rom.
Hey guys I'm pretty sure it's just my SD card. I tried saving an image, just to test it and it says 'an SD card is required to download images.bin', so I'm HOPING it's just my SD Card, however my notifications are working properly so I can at least deal with it til friday, if it IS my SD card reader in the phone, well... I have a plan for that, however due to already technically breaking that I shouldn't go into it. Thanks to you guys for taking the time to post and if you know anything else that might help me I'd gladly accept it.

Hi, I have a reader on my laptop but not the adapter, so I can't tell and yes, you were right, I can't see any of my backups (which I have my stock, then cm6 and cm7) so I either need to find an adapter or get a new SD card. luckily I pulled all of my camera images off my phone last night when I put the new rom .zip on the phone sd, so I'm not really worried about 'losing' anything as long as I get my phone working back in proper condition.
Well that happened to me before as well.. All i did was replace sd cards lets the phone do its thing flash a different rom like CM6 or CM7 and then once replaced i got the adapter for my old sd card reformatted through windows and put it right back in and it worked.. So try that?
Ill have to. Thanks a lot guys I do appreciate any comments and suggestions and ill be picking up a new sd later thia week to fix it but can amyone recommend a good brand sd to pick up? the apparently failed one was a samsung 8gb

Something similar happened to me. Your SD card likely has a bad or corrupted file. I used Win7 to copy over what I could to a folder in my PC. The Win7 automatically refused to copy over the corrupted files while carrying over everything else. In XP, your file transfer stops and you have to try again to ensure you have everything that's not corrupted transferred over.
After copying, I just went ahead and formatted the SD to FAT32, transferred everything back, installed on my phone, and voila.
Go into recovery and partition the card. You'll lose everything on it but it should be useable after that

[Q] Deleted all of the phones files? -.-

Hey guys hoping you can help me out here.
Let me just start by stating that I'm not really a tech savvy guy.
Okay, so here's my story. I found an old SD card with a bunch of stuff on it and decided to plug it into my phone. I was on CWR, and decided to format the SD card, I figured that would remove all of its content. Again, I stress I'm not tech savvy, however I figured its just and SD card and I could always resort to get another one if this one broke.
Anyway, if your still reading, I guess CWR didn't register the new SD card and instead reformatted my internal memory. (If that's the correct term).
Do I have any chance of getting the files back so it could at least boot?
Thanks in advance!
Sorry for being stupid.
Download your rom of choice put it on your sd card and and reflash through cwm unless you have titanium backup on your other sd you will probably have to redownload your stuff

You likely wiped the data/did a factory reset. Grab a ROM, toss it on your sd card and flash it, it won't get your apps back, you'll have to reinstall them.
If you want to use the stock ROM go here. Otherwise, pick a custom ROM and run with it.

[Q] Internal SD Card failing?

Okay, now the internal SD Card is giving me all kinds of headaches.
I flashed all my ROM stuff fine, it installed, runs great, but now I can't copy or write anything to the internal SD Card.
I try to take a picture, force close. Copy files with Astro, errors. Even PC to phone errors out on me. I can't even copy over another ROM zip to reflash to try it out.
Anything like this happen to any of you guys?

Try going back to stock. Sounds like a bad flash. Or it was writtin in that it is only readable, not writing. So try the stock, should work. Pick your choice, recomend heimdale one click, its the easiest.
Plus once you reload save what files you have then format your sd card i do that every now and then...
Well, GTG's method is getting something to almost flash. It seems stuck at "factory.rfs" now. How long does it usually take to upload the filesystem?
Okay, I tried all my USB ports and found one that worked. Weird.

[Q] help i think ive well and truly ****ed it

hiya i wonder if any1 can help!
basically my phone was telling me my sd card had been removed (no big deal i thought, this seems to happen to my phone from time to time since running this ROM (bruce2728's cm10)).
i can usually either remove the sd card and put back in, or the same with the battery to get it working again. but no matter how many times i try it wont work. also when using this ROM (and before this problem) every time that i try to enter storage from the settings menu, settings force closes.
so completely out of ideas i tried doing a wipe and trying again. now u see im fairly new to all this and that seems to get touted as a way to fix some things, so i thought id give it a go.
but now my phone wont get past the white with green HTC logo, its been sat like that for about an hour! and in recovery it just says that it cannot mount sd card!!
i feel im firmly up **** creek. is there any way to fix this? perhaps a way to flash a ROM without using sd card to a phone that wont boot up?
i feel i might need to flash a new bootanimation.img as i changed this from the default in the ROM, could i also do this without an sd card or a phone that wont get past HTC logo?
i hope there is someone out there that can help!
thank you in advance,
Max
I would install ARHD from Mike1986 it seems to help resettle the device running a sense ROM. Make sure you follow his instructions using ext4 and super wipe

I'm assuming you've tried pulling the battery, unseating the sd card, reseating it, putting battery back, and going to recovery right?
If that doesn't work I'd suggest trying to read the sd in card in a PC... is it readable there?
All in all you can get to recovery so you arent that bad off, just need to figure out what's up with the SD.
Yes I can view my SD card on both my PC and my tablet :/ but when I boot into 4ext it says problem mounting SD card, may take longer without. Then when 4ext loads I can't manually mount SD or browse for zip file. You think this is more likely a hardware issue with my sensation?

On your PC, copy all your files off your SD card, format your SD card (makes sure the filesystem is set to fat32), and then just put 1 file on it, a ROM, and see if the recovery detects it. If that doesn't work then you can always try using a different SD card.

This isn't part of your SD card problem. This was a ROM bug that was fixed in the Jan 9th update. Any use of the storage menu from the settings on the late December to Jan 6th builds caused a FC.
So if you are using one of those builds, don't factor in th esettings FC in your diagnosis of the problem.
SD card ejections were also an issue on the Dec 21 - Jan 3rd builds if I recall correctly. I had one day where the SD card would just unmount and refused to remount. It was a problem experienced by only a handful of people and seemed to be very limited. Though if you can't mount in recovery than that's probably not the issue.
Also, you said you could press the SD card into the slot and it mounted for a second...
2 things on that note.
First, your SD card might be the problem. Maybe the contacts are worn out. Take a lcose look at it and make sure it looks okay. No corrosion, etc...
Second, the metal housing around the SD card...that can be mashed in slightly to put more pressure on the card. Take the card out and press the middle of that housing in. It could create enough force to hold the card in more securely. Be VERY careful with this option though.
Also, did you make sure another SD card got the same problem? If another card works, then your card is just f'ed.

Find the exact rom you were on and take the boot IMG out of it. Wipe your data and cache and then boot to fastboot. With the boot.IMG
In your adb folder do fastboot boot boot.IMG and see if it boots into the rom.
