Am I missing something or does the phone really not have "Voice Dialer" on it? That seems kindof nuts?

There are mixed reports of Voice Dialer fc'ing when trying to call. The current Voice Search will actually directly dial for me now so I'd go with that or Vlingo seems to be popular if VDialer isn't working.

See Voice Dialer works for me but I can't get the Voice search to actually call any of my contacts, it just searches for numbers on google

I'm getting the same FC on the Voice Dialer app. Vlingo actually seems to work very well. What will change when we're rooted, what will make it work then, why does it not, now?

There was an update to Voice Search a day ago maybe that changed something because Dialer was working for me. The first time I used Voice Search it tried to search google but after making sure my pronunciations were better it worked the same as Voice Dialer was - note that the way Voice Dialer was working was not the same as on my N1 - no calls are getting initiated. Every time it prompts me to do what it thinks I said. I'm not sure if that's cuz it's broken or because it has learned what to expect yet.
Weirdness - just tried VSearch and it direct dials and everything - no need for voice dialer.

When we're rooted (bootloader unlocked) there is a chance that whatever dependency failure is occurring can be resolved in a modded htc s4g stock rom or we can just load up cm7 or hopefully a stock release (my preference).

is there a app that I can use to make the phone hear commands through my Jawbone headset?
I just want to be able to call someone while driving by pressing the voice command button on my headset...
everything else works but the voice command... I can redial with a couple button presses of the headset, answer and hangup calls, ect.
the apk posted works but not through the headset. it hears you from the phone's microphone... not very functional when driving.
plus Google's version that's included in the phone has better speech recognition.
why didn't HTC include this function?
It isn't working as well as I thought it would. After I speak, it pops up a menu and asks me who I want to call. Isn't the idea not to use the phone while driving? No idea why it is not recognizing the speech.

While everyone's stated that Google Voice for Honeycomb is in the works, I thought I'd try the *.apk hacked together here and it actually worked fine on the TF as well.
On a side note, obviously that'll only work for text messages as calls can't be made or received over data with Google Voice. Anybody ever use GrooVe IP? I'm curious if anybody has used it to do Google Voice over data (on their tablet or even on a phone, just curious how well it works / how the experience is). It sounds very interesting. The tablet could almost be used as a house/speaker phone, over our Google Voice line.

I did a test call to myself from my TF with just Groove IP and it made the call. Couldn't test the quality because it was just me.
I also tested this on my wifi Galaxy Tab and it worked.
Edit: tried a real call on Galaxy tab w a BT headset and it didn't pick up the voice. It looks like others are having luck with it on the TF which is great.
I am going to try this on my Transformer.
Quick Question:
I am going to the Bahamas next week and am taking my Transformer. If I get this to work and have a Wifi connection down there, do you think I will be able to make calls with my GV or would I be charged a roaming fee?

This should work fine, as the developer himself stated in a thread I was reading about it. I'll try and get a link. As long as you have internet, and a Google Voice account, GrooVe IP should work. Granted, I still haven't bought it, but I'm thinking about it.
Question: If you purchase an app and have two Android devices, it should work for both for the price of one right?
GrooveIP works fine on the Transformer. I just made a couple of calls over my Google Voice using it on the TF.
The only issue I've had with it is that the dialing screen is orientation locked to portrait which makes it look ridiculous (and makes it a bit hard to interact with) when you're in docked mode or otherwise using landscape orientation.

No you don't have to have voice installed. I had a hard time setting up my GrooVe IP and found that you must completely exit from the app and restart for the settings to take effect. My voice username is my email address and when typing it in for some reason the keyboard kept wanting to put an extra space in the address. After I corrected that and exited out I was fine.

My next suggestion would be to uninstall the app, and reinstall then. There's really nothing else you can do.
I tried that too. Tried resetting the phone and...I've tried 3 different sensations they all had the same issue. Only work around I found was if I added that gmail account and sync it and then forward the google voice texts to that gmail account. Btw thanks for ur suggestions. I googled the issue found one other person with the issue. Maybe it will be fixed with the 2.3.4 update.
It works fine for me. The only problems that arise are when my connection is shoddy it will not tell me about new texts.. otherwise it works great.
Dunno man. I have a T-Mobile Sensation, Google Voice works great stock, after the 2.3.4 OTA update, and on CM7.
Finally got it to work. It took a few tries of logging out and logging back in. Thanks for all the help guys.
The S Voice APK was leaked so I decided to download it and try it. There are some downloads that aren't working as they keep giving parse errors so I found one that does work. Some things work and some things don't. I am trying to set up a custom wake up command but I'm guessing either due to some proprietary technology limited to Samsung or just because the APK wasn't meant for our phone, it is giving me a "Unfortunately, S Voice has stopped." error.
Hopefully this can be changed to work with our HOXs better. It does seem to be able to answer my questions so I'm guessing it is able to connect to Samsung's servers. Asked where I was currently located and it brought up a map and I asked about the weather and it brought up a weather forcast even though I uninstalled HTC's weather apps. So there's hope I guess.

Seems to have issues with wifi. If I have it turned on and go into the app, it only lets me do one command. Then I can press on the button but nothing happens. When I have wifi off, it works basically fine; albeit the voice is a little slow. Interestingly, I can turn it off before going in then have S Voice activate my wifi and as long as I don't leave the app, it works fine. As soon as I get out and go back in it stops working properly.

you can set it up to listen for the "hi galaxy" command, or another command of your choosing, it will use more battery, so it's not on by default.

It works off and on. I had times it worked well with little lag, but also had periods where it would just kick off a network error or would FC. After clearing cache and waiting it would randomly start working again. It really isn't anything special though. It seems like it is just a skinned version of Vlingo. It also looks like it works alot kinda like Siri by using Wolfram Alpha.
Vlingo looks like they are beta testing a newer version of Vlingo assistant that has a wake up command option like S Voice. It only has a few options currently though

i'll try that.
pretty sure the network errors (not force closes) are due to samsung not having the servers ready for public use, and as such are turning them on and off on their end.
on a slightly related topic, samsung really phoned it in on the UI for this app, they basically ripped off apple's setup, if they were having issues with apple legally before, this app and design is not going to help.
i wish samsung would hire some competent and creative developers for their products.
Works fine for me once I uninstalled the stock voice app.

Been unsuccessfully trying to get bluetooth voice dialing working with Jawbone Icon. Called HTC and representative said that bluetooth voice dialing was intentionally disabled on the One X.
Would voice dialing apk enable bluetooth voice dialing? Does it need to be installed as system app?
Also, the representative said an OTA update should be out for AT&T by the end of May.

The native Voice Dialer APK wasn't included. I've found a couple for ICS but none work on the One X. Vlingo works. For my BlueAnt Q2 it's a little funky. If you set up Vlingo InCar to listen over BT, you just say "hey Vlingo" to get it to respond and take your request. The first time I start it the Q2 says "feature not supported" but Vlingo's listening from that point anyway. Hopefully one of the devs on either One X forum will get a working APK out.
I use the leaked Voice Talk app from the Galaxy S III with my Jawbone ERA.
Supposedly they locked their servers but the app still works for what i need it for which is voice dialing. I get random FC's after command calls to other apps though.
The thing is Android has its own voice dial/voice search built right in the OS since 2.2.2. Why HTC disable this is beyond me. Even my AT&T Samsung GS2 has it after you removed the Voice app.
Actually, the voice search functionality is still there. You have to tap the mic icon on Google search widget to activate it. What's missing is click on BT headset button to launch it.

Still no way to do it without rooting. Is that correct? I have contacted HTC about this and was assured that it will be addressed in a upcoming update (not 1.85.502) so I guess we wait and see.
Possible Solution
This issues has been bugging me. It's one of the few features that my iPhone 4S did well... very well. So, I set out to find the fix.
Unfortunately, I cannot root my phone. So, I had to find another way.
I happen to have a Motorola Finiti headset. I installed MotoSpeak. Which whether it works for you or not, it enabled the menu to select the built in voice dialer when I hit the bluetooth call button.
Hopefully it works for others also.

If rooted.......
Go to settings>app>all. Clear the data and cache for the app. Using a root file explorer copy the .apk that you want, go to /system/app, and paste it. It will ask about replacing the existing, say yes. Reboot and enjoy

LOL still upset...the voice dialer while paired by bluetooth using it my car with my Kenwood Navigation head unit DNX890HD. It just does not work well at all. It misses names, can`t find names that are in my contacts, adds digits on number dial....etc Contacts that S voice (on my Samsung Galaxy S4) would call with no issues what so ever do not work at all. This sounds obvious but I thought i'd throw it out there anyways... have you gone into the settings and checked off the box that tells it to work through the bluetooth headset? It may just be using the mic on the phone which is why it's messing up so bad.

Wish I could help, but in my experience, Google's voice recognition is one of if not the best voice recognition software out there. I've used "OK Google" few times and few more times as a test and compared to others, it's excellent.
could be a possibility your BT mic just isn't picking it up..or isnt close enough.
How does it perform without bluetooth?

Same here...using Dodge/Chrysler's UConnect and I haven't had a single problem save for the same problem with some of my contacts not being able to be dialed using "Name, Home". It consistently boots me to that person's mobile number. That might be a google related issue or something else. Using numbers only hasn't given me any problems.
So here is my dilemma, Google now works when the phone is unlocked and through the blue tooth on the nav unit with ok google...when I press the telephone button on the nav unit it then defaults to either google voice dialer (the old crappy one) or klets with the always or just once options.
So it works sort of.....

Yup it is activated...still the $hits...trying a app called klets, will see if that is any better. Do not mind paying for one if it works!!

I couldn't get the phone voice dialer or my old standby voice dialer called cyberon to work reliably on the N5 and my sony mw600 bluetooth headset. Cyberon worked fairly reliably on my old galaxy nexus but not on the N5.
I really thought that there was a bug in the N5 kitkat which would hose any bluetooth voice dialer. At your suggestion I just loaded klets and wow, it seems to work wonderfully!
I need some time with it but I am very encouraged. Caanda45 I can't thank you enough for your remarks

NP glad it worked...I have ended up getting rid of my N5 but klets is a pretty good app. Any app that will let you try it free for 7 days is a good app in my books...

Wish I could help, but in my experience, Google's voice recognition is one of if not the best voice recognition software out there. I've used "OK Google" few times and few more times as a test and compared to others, it's excellent.

When I tried ok google for dialing I seem to recall there was no verification. I don't think I could rate a voice dialer as excellent without verification. I really don't want an old girlfriend asking me why I was calling her.

agreed. which phone did you settle on? Was it the voice dialing that caused you to switch?

I didn't say voice dialer was excellent.. I said the voice recognition was excellent.
As for verification, there is no "yes" "no" verification but there is a few second delay before it places a call, during which you can cancel if that's not the number you wanna dial.

ok, I'll acknowledge your statement about the voice recognition. I just tried playing with the voice calling feature again to refresh my memory.
Many times ok google wasn't picked up. There is no voice verification yes/no as you stated and no repeat of who it was about to call. Yes there is a delay where you could kill it with touch but I saw no way to kill it with a voice command once it commenced. Having to kill it with touch completely misses the point of voice dialing.
While the name it picks seems to be accurate that's about the only useful thing I can say about it. Even then often it would pull the correct name but drop the "call" part of the command and instead do a default web search on the name.
IMO, the google now voice dialer is cute but practically useless as a serious voice dialing application.

Believe it or not I got a Moto x and the notifications and touch less controls are outstanding!!! Solid phone, better speaker, no washed out picture off axis etc....The N5 is a powerhouse but as with most LG products, cheapo plastic....My S4 was better constructed.....just my opinion though...

It uses the Google system not the old google crappy voice dialer but the new one that is in the nexus 5...so basically google now..works really well even when I press the phone button on the nav system it defaults to google now through the nav mic. My N5 would use the crappy old google voice dialer until I used klets. All in all happy that I got rid of the N5.
