While everyone's stated that Google Voice for Honeycomb is in the works, I thought I'd try the *.apk hacked together here and it actually worked fine on the TF as well.
On a side note, obviously that'll only work for text messages as calls can't be made or received over data with Google Voice. Anybody ever use GrooVe IP? I'm curious if anybody has used it to do Google Voice over data (on their tablet or even on a phone, just curious how well it works / how the experience is). It sounds very interesting. The tablet could almost be used as a house/speaker phone, over our Google Voice line.

I did a test call to myself from my TF with just Groove IP and it made the call. Couldn't test the quality because it was just me.
I also tested this on my wifi Galaxy Tab and it worked.
Edit: tried a real call on Galaxy tab w a BT headset and it didn't pick up the voice. It looks like others are having luck with it on the TF which is great.
I am going to try this on my Transformer.
Quick Question:
I am going to the Bahamas next week and am taking my Transformer. If I get this to work and have a Wifi connection down there, do you think I will be able to make calls with my GV or would I be charged a roaming fee?
This is awesome. I can send text messages from my TF now.

This should work fine, as the developer himself stated in a thread I was reading about it. I'll try and get a link. As long as you have internet, and a Google Voice account, GrooVe IP should work. Granted, I still haven't bought it, but I'm thinking about it.
Question: If you purchase an app and have two Android devices, it should work for both for the price of one right?
GrooveIP works fine on the Transformer. I just made a couple of calls over my Google Voice using it on the TF.
The only issue I've had with it is that the dialing screen is orientation locked to portrait which makes it look ridiculous (and makes it a bit hard to interact with) when you're in docked mode or otherwise using landscape orientation.

For texting on google voice, is there anyway for the texts to appear as they come in?
The only settings I can find, is for the application to refresh every XX minutes.

No you don't have to have voice installed. I had a hard time setting up my GrooVe IP and found that you must completely exit from the app and restart for the settings to take effect. My voice username is my email address and when typing it in for some reason the keyboard kept wanting to put an extra space in the address. After I corrected that and exited out I was fine.

As I have only data and sms on my subscription on my Tab I would like to have a dialer on the tab which uses my gmail contacts (they are already synced to the tab) to make a call through my Nexus One phone.
Then I could keep it in my pocket or somewhere else during driving as I use the tab for music and navigation in my car.
Does anyone know of a dialer that can do this?
That would definitely be cool.
So, you want the Tab/Nexus to immitate a bluetooth headset?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Just the tab.
So. I don't recall having seen anything that remotely controls a cellphone. However, couldn't you have google voice make a call the same way it does when you use it from your pc and it first calls the number associated with your google voice account, then connects the call with the desired contact?
I know that is not specifically what you are looking for but might provide some ideas.
Otherwise, from what I understand you are saying is basically a remote controll for your phone? It doesnt necissarily need to be via bluetooth. I control my ip handset over the internet with the tie in to my enterprise im client. I can control any of the several ip phones I have attached to my profile in the call manager.
Let me know if you find this elsewhere. Looks like a great application for the tab. Im starting to have device overload!

Has anyone else who currently uses an Android phone and the Transformer have the issue that when logged into talk on their phone, the transformer does not receive the talk messages?
works fine for me.
Works for me too. I had my desktop/phone/TF all go off at the same time. :O
On a second thought - Chat works, but a voice call only went to the Pad. Which was unfortunate, since I'm (well, the other party, not me) experiencing pretty significant echo.

IT happens if you use one of the devices to talk to someone, that device then takes all the notifications for a while. But if someone messages you out of the blue, it should show up everywhere. This is the case with my phone, desktop, and laptop. The phone and desktop are always on. So I'm at school, I'll get pings from my phone and laptop, I come home, see a bunch of first messages from people. But since I started responding on my other devices, it didn't pick up the rest of the convo.
Wouldn't mind all devices keeping track of everything though.
But the chatting style is quite crappy. All my text stays under and the text of the correspondant stays above. So when I text too faste, the above text disappears. The thread is not mixed which is quite difficult to follow.

I've had the same thing happen to me already. Happened with the first firmware update but ever since I got the newest one, I haven't had too many issues. It is true, if you respond to a message on your Phone, you won't get the message notification on the TF until a unknown amount of inactivity across the board.

I had the same issue. Check if there is any time difference between you and the person you are talking with. In my case I was an hour ahead of my friend and all my messages were stacked in the upper part while all his messages were on the bottom. I changed my time settings an hour early and the conversations are ok now.

Does video chat work for Google Talk on the Transformer yet? or Are there any video chat application(s) that work for this device?
Yup, works fine for me
Yeah, similar issue here with my gf's tab... sometimes messages are only received on the phone.
I bought my wife a TF for her birthday a couple weeks ago and she's been playing around with it. So far she's happy, but today she wanted to use Skype to make a video call to her mom.
Needless to say, we soon found out that Skype Video chat isn't supported, so I found what I thought was an alternative. Google Talk, which comes stock on the Transformer. She then told her mom to get Google talk on her PC so they could chat.
This is what happens. Whether we called her mom or her mom called us, we cant get the video to load. If her mom rings the TF, our video loads in the lower right corner, but then her mom's video only pops up for a second and then we get sent to the Chat screen.
But here's the rub...I loaded Talk on my laptop and I can video call back and forth between my laptop and the TF just fine - video and sound. Now granted, I have no idea how my MIL has her PC set up...but I do know that we tried Google Talk Video PC to PC and it worked without issue.
Has anybody else experienced this and is there a fix? I searched online and found several people having the same issue, but I also found people who say it works flawlessly...and whats the disconnect between my laptop and the TF versus my MIL's PC and the TF? Could it be simply that both my devices are in the same WiFi? Could it be because my MIL lives in California?
Any input is appreciated.
It work fine for me too even when my PC and tablet are on different wifi network so probably the way it's set up on your MIL's side.
Now instead of using the app on the PC
She can try to log into her Gmail account and initiate a call from there.
I don't use any PC app at all just straight from my Gmail account on the PC
to my tablet.

My sympathies to you - despite being one of these womenfolk, I do actually know what you're talking about. Every other day either me or my husband is trying to fix some sort of computer issue for my mother-in-law. God help us all if she actually realizes video chat is a thing.
That said, also slightly off topic, but despite preferring Gtalk personally, it would be really nice to see Skype working on this device since everyone under the sun seems to use it. I haven't had a problem so far with TF-to-TF vid chat, but I'll see if I can replicate your issue with one of the desktops later. You'll probably have it resolved by then though, I'd imagine
Good luck!

To get there log into the gmail account, then:
1. Click in the gear icon on the far upper right.
2. Click mail settings.
3. Click in the chat tab
4. In the Voice & Video Chat area there is a camera drop down box to choose the hardware.
Also make sure she has installed the Video Chat plug-in:
1. Again from the gmail account click on her gmail e-mail ([email protected])
2. Click account settings
3. Click talk
4. Click install Video Chat plug-in
Hope one of those get things working for you.
I also tried it from my Desktop. My desktop (Vista 32 machine) had no issues. My laptop is a Win7 64. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I wouldn't think so.
I'm almost positive that its something or some setting on her end not quite right.
Now to communicate it to her and make her understand cause its not like I can just hop in my car to go take a look at it.
I've got pretty much the exact same problem here! Calls from PC-PC work, but from TF-PC don't load at all. It's been like this for well over a month, and I have yet to figure out any solution.
Did you manage to get anything to work on your end?
EDIT: Found this link. Any news or solutions would probably be posted there first. As of 3 days ago Google was still working on a fix.
Hummm.... I can report that video chat does work with my TF and my Win7 64 Laptop. After going into the Google settings, as I mentioned above, and setting the correct web cam device, I have tired it several time with no issues.
My TF is up to date and running 3.2 by the way.
Of course I was on the same home network with both devices, so maybe being on different networks would yield different results.
Hey Nickovtyme, you think your MIL would want to try Yahoo Messenger?
I use it and it work good though resolution is not as good as GTalk.

That works fine for me when we're both on the same home network. If possible, try tether the TF via WiFi hotspot from your phone (if you have a data plan) - that will effectively put it on a different network - and try GTalk again with your computer to see if it still works.

Well, just gave it a go. Used my cell phone data connection with my TF and it worked. I first I thought it didn't, but then realized I had to open the lid so I could use the built in webcam (duh!).
But yeah, it works for me.
The S Voice APK was leaked so I decided to download it and try it. There are some downloads that aren't working as they keep giving parse errors so I found one that does work. Some things work and some things don't. I am trying to set up a custom wake up command but I'm guessing either due to some proprietary technology limited to Samsung or just because the APK wasn't meant for our phone, it is giving me a "Unfortunately, S Voice has stopped." error.
Hopefully this can be changed to work with our HOXs better. It does seem to be able to answer my questions so I'm guessing it is able to connect to Samsung's servers. Asked where I was currently located and it brought up a map and I asked about the weather and it brought up a weather forcast even though I uninstalled HTC's weather apps. So there's hope I guess.

Seems to have issues with wifi. If I have it turned on and go into the app, it only lets me do one command. Then I can press on the button but nothing happens. When I have wifi off, it works basically fine; albeit the voice is a little slow. Interestingly, I can turn it off before going in then have S Voice activate my wifi and as long as I don't leave the app, it works fine. As soon as I get out and go back in it stops working properly.

It works off and on. I had times it worked well with little lag, but also had periods where it would just kick off a network error or would FC. After clearing cache and waiting it would randomly start working again. It really isn't anything special though. It seems like it is just a skinned version of Vlingo. It also looks like it works alot kinda like Siri by using Wolfram Alpha.
Vlingo looks like they are beta testing a newer version of Vlingo assistant that has a wake up command option like S Voice. It only has a few options currently though

i'll try that.
pretty sure the network errors (not force closes) are due to samsung not having the servers ready for public use, and as such are turning them on and off on their end.
on a slightly related topic, samsung really phoned it in on the UI for this app, they basically ripped off apple's setup, if they were having issues with apple legally before, this app and design is not going to help.
i wish samsung would hire some competent and creative developers for their products.
Works fine for me once I uninstalled the stock voice app.

If you're using a prepaid plan, I wonder if this is what you're running into:
http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/voice/bPJ0u3fJiFo
Look about half-way down the page, it seems that some have needed to have T-Mobile disable their own voicemail in order to get GVoice to work. Maybe this is the answer, maybe not, but I saw it and thought it might help. If you got your Nexus through T-Mobile/postpaid, may not be the answer.
I seem to of found the problem. I was testing calls from my work phone, and they were all getting directed into the Spam folder. You cannot view the spam folder on the android app, however once i moved the calls\voicemails from the spam folder via the web interface, they all came flooding into my phone.
