Key combo access recovery? - Thunderbolt General

So, I decided to try and update to BAMF Remix 1.8 without wiping data (just dalvik) after having done so successfully going from 1.6 - 1.7
Well, once it gets to the Thunderbolt logo it just stops and never moves forward
Is there a way to access recovery with just a key combo similar to HBoot? I have searched and cannot find the mothod, there was a way on my droid X, but this phone has far fewer hard keys and I have tried Vol+ and we all know Vol- does HBoot.
Thanks

With exactly that key combo and select recovery from hboot menu

I have accessed HBoot, it instantly tries doing an update, I hit Down to cancel the update then it says
Cancel Update!
Press <POWER> to reboot.
Maybe I hate PGOIMG.zip or what ever the file name is in the root of my SD card...
Either way I cannot Vol down to Recovery in HBOOT

find an sdcard reader, connect the sdcard to the pc, and delete the pg05img file.

Method 1 - Update.zip
http://www.filedropper.com/update2
1. Put the file on the root of your sdcard and rename it to update.zip.
2. Turn off your phone.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Reinstall the battery.
5. Hold volume down + power until you get to a white screen.
6. Use the volume rocker to highlight FASTBOOT and press power to select.
7. Use the volume rocker highlight RECOVERY and press power to select. If you see an exclamation point instead of the blue menu, you might have to press volume up or down to get into the blue recovery menu.
8. Use the volume rocker to highlight and press power to select APPLY SDCARD UPDATE.ZIP.
9. DON'T TOUCH IT UNTIL IT'S DONE AND REBOOTS ON ITS OWN.
10. You should now be in 2.2.1 with all of your data preserved.
Method 2 - pd15img.zip
This procedure will completely erase ALL of your data but it is guaranteed to work.

7. When the phone is ready, use the volume rocker to highlight and power button to select BEGIN UPDATE.
8. DON'T TOUCH IT UNTIL IT'S DONE AND REBOOTS ON ITS OWN. THIS MIGHT TAKE A WHILE.
9. You will now be on a clean install of Android 2.2.1. Enjoy.

I've just bricked my phone this afternoon, and been looking for some noob way for recovering it.
It is all because I rooted this phone and might delete some critical apks that caused my phone lost its desktop/main screen.
Doesn't PD15img kill WiFi?
If you read the How To Root. . . thread carefully you will see that PD15img is only partially 2.2.1 and more has to be added to get a full install of 2.2.1 with working WiFi.
After waiting more than a week for an automatic update after I got my phone, I tried the PD15img thing without reading all of the posts and only too late discovered that my WiFi didn't work and a lot more had to be done to get it back. And it appears that PD15img can't be undone. I had decided to take the phone back for an exchange but. . .
That very night TMo did an automatic update from my incomplete 2.2.1 to real 2.2.1, which fixed the problem.
I didn't get the phone from TMo directly and I never gave them my IMEI. I wonder if the automatic update was just luck or PD15img had something to do with it.
Thank you.. My phone hasn't been rooted yet, but I'll give that a try. I hope it's a full update.. That'd suck if my wifi didn't work...

You're thinking of the OLD pd15img.zip that was part of the procedure to undo the OTA update. The one I linked to is the NEW one posted by Football that completely restores to 2.2.1 without issue. NEW radio, NEW SPL, NEW software.
I tested it on two different phones and everything worked perfectly.
You were thinking of this method.

If all you did was delete the wrong APK and it can be restored by flashing a stock image, it certainly is not bricked by any means.

Most people don't know what brick even is they do something wrong and think they bricked it lol I remember in HD2 forum someone did BINFS format and didn't flash rom manually thought he bricked it cause he had no rom installed and only stuck on bootloader. So told him to just flash using LeoCustomRRU as he could do task29 and flash.
BTW NRGZ28 thanks for cooking NRG roms bro loved your 6.5.X work specially the whole 29XXX base as it was most stable and fast to bad HD2 is stolen.

I followed the guide you gave me since i was using an obsolete one and it worked perfectly. My phone says its on 2.2.1 but it doesnt feel like i am.... i remember after my update the market app was completely different, it has this half circle kind of look to it where it featured some popular apps. this version of 2.2.1 doesnt have that. is there any specific reason for that or am i missing something?
thanks again for your help!
The market update itself was a separate update "just to the market app" than 2.2.1. I had to force 2.2.1 on my phone early on; market came later. You should be able to find it in the apps/themes section, or just give it time and it should update itself.
Great post but I really need help.
I guess my phone is from some other batch or ... who know these chinese these days.
Anyways my menu is just different from described.
as folllows:
HBOOT screen
FASTBOOT (gets me to FASTBOOT screen)
RECOVERY (just give triangle makeing out with exclamation point)
FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC
FASTBOOT sreen
BOOTLOADER (gets me back to HBOOT screen)
REBOOT
REBOOT BOOTLOADER
POWER DOWN
Don't really want to go with pd15img.zip route to preserve data. (So far)
Thanks
btw - I'm on Simple Mobile so no OTA for me

I don't quite understand your issue here? Is it that you get stuck at the recovery screen with a triangle? Did you read step 7 of the previous posts clearly?
7. Use the volume rocker highlight RECOVERY and press power to select. If you see an exclamation point instead of the blue menu, you might have to press volume up or down to get into the blue recovery menu.
Ok, maybe this time it will post.
Thanks for your answer Genocaust
I'm noob so I'm trying everything that comes to my mind several times before bugging good people.
Somehow my menus seems to be different than expected. Anyways, right after hboot my first screen has following options:
* FASTBOOT
* RECOVERY
* FACTORY RESET
* SIMLOCK
* IMAGE CRC
Clicking on recovery gets me triangle/exclamation screen after several tries i managed to get blue menu by pressing VolumeUP and POWER simultaneously (just up or down does nothing at all).
there is apply update.zip but when clicked returns yellow message:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
Invalid operation
and goes black and not responsive.
After waiting for say 20 min decided to pull battery. (phone works, still 2.2)
Tried above few times. Downloaded update file yet another time, even changed file name using file manager on the phone (i know).
I will appreciate any suggestions. I guess next step is pd15img.zip which I wanted to avoid or stay on 2.2
Phone is few days old and all stock
Thanks again

Bootloader Mode

Anybody know how to get into Bootloader mode on the Inspire 4G? I have tried holding the Volume Down button while restarting and all the phone does is vibrates and reboots normally. Am I missing something?
You're doing it right (Vol Dwn + Power)
Just make sure to hold volume first before you hold power.
Make sure you have fastboot turned off in sense.
I press volume down, then select "restart". Keep holding power down until you get into bootloader.
I take the battery door off to power off, then slap it on real quick then hold volume - down, then hold power button. It can be a little tricky to do. Then ull be in bootloader and have four options to choose from. Ive only done it manually this way because i was in boot loop. Was scared ****less the first time i got boot loop, cause i wasnt sure if there was a way to get to recovery manually lol.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
Are you guys booting into clockworkmod? When I hold down volume and power it goes into that.
sent from my Inspire 4G
If you manually do the volume button and power button trick it should put you in bootloader mode then you can choose to boot into recovery, ive never had my inspire boot right into recovery unless i choose it in rom manager.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
i tried doing that but it just goes to fastboot the reason that i want it to go to bootloader im trying to re-flash it back to stock...
Power your phone off. Now that your phone is off hold the volume button down and tap the power button. Now you should be in bootloader mode. If your trying to get into recovery mode download rom manager from the marketplace.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
be sure you have Fastboot turned off in Applications.
Another thing you can do is download Quickboot from the market...then boot into bootloader from there. Quickboot>bootloader
Is it really that difficult??lol, for me when I hold the power button while phone is on, it gives me multiple options to reboot , including bootloader and recovery...
If your phones off , then just holy the vol down and off key .
Oh and I have fastboot on and I have no problems.

That's because your running a ROM with an extended power menu. Other people might not be.
A lot of the people that are having problems are probably running sense roms and have fastboot on. I got confused by this at first because with fastboot on it doesn't actually shut off so the down and power method doesn't work
Sent through the power of Cthulhu.
You can download quick boot from the market. Makes so much easier booting into recovery.
yeah Im trying to do that I am able to boot in where it shows Hboot and then you have other options to choice from but Im not all able to select anything it just scans and then go to the scan mode and ask if i want to update
I was thinking about installing the gingerbeast. Has any installed that?
I did a nanadoid back up went into Rom Manger and clicked flash C/W-R and I made that..and I did that backup current ROM also.

You can delete it either using a file manger app like astro, root explorer etc or you can do it by connecting your phone to your PC.
As to flashing a rom. Place the file in the root of your SD card to make it easier to find. I prefer to do my flashing manually. Boot into recovery either through rom manager or through hboot. Scroll down to wipe data/factory reset. Select with power button ans confirm in the next screen. Next go into advanced and select delete dalvik cache. Confirm. Now select go back and choose install from SD card. Scroll to gingerbeast rom and select and confirm.
And yes you'll be able to reads your wallpaper

HELPPPPPP i got to the stage where it says press power button once to enter HBoot then press enter on your keyboard. It did that and then i pressed enter twice on the keyboard. then what was supposed to come up was the part where it is supposed to say your phone should now search for the PD98IMG.zip. but it never did. then the computer said that it could not recognize the android driver. now the command prompt box is stuck at *daemon started successfully* and is not doing anything and has not for the past 10 min. should i turn off the phone and start all over?
Got it! Now i have to figure out which custom rom to install.Any suggestions??Guess it wasn't that hard after all. Thank god i have a son that knows how to do it!!

You still have a PD98IMG.zip file on your SD card. As long as this is there, bootloader will always try to automatically update with this file through HBoot. You need to remove this file from the SD card and you'll be able to boot to recovery

[Q] Manual Recovery Mode Is Stuck In Hboot

I've done some poking around here for an answer for about a week, and I can't seem to find anything.
When I put my phone into the manual recovery (Volume Down+Power Button), the phone instantly goes to Hboot and starts loading my goldcard. From there, I can either Re install the root update or do nothing and reboot my phone. It won't let me scroll down to recovery or any of the other things.
Now its not a major problem, I have ROM Manager with clockworkmod. But for certain ROMs they say to install them manually, which I can't do. And just the fact that I want to know why my phone won't let me do it.
Any ideas? Suggestions? Much appreciated.
Only one PD98IMG file on your sd card at a time, and when you are finished flashing it in Hboot then delete it. Otherwise you will be stuck like you are when you enter Hboot.
Try turning off, pulling sd card and then powering up with volume down pushed. It worked for me.

[Q] Htc Inspire 4G "Black Screen" Need Help please.

Hey, first time posting anything here. i have an HTC Inspire 4g and i rooted it and installed the RCmix3d Bliss sense 3.5 ROM. Everything worked perfect until this morning i woke up to a black screen. everything was fine but, the screen wouldnt turn on except the lights on the touch buttons. I took out the battery and restarted but nothing, eventually it showed (Once) and i thought everything was fine but when i put it to sleep and the screen wouldnt turn on anymore.. i came home and did something(i think) very stupid and tried to attempt to re-root it and now the lights on the touch buttons dont light up. i can tell its on because i have 2 text messages and the notification light keeps blinking. I also tried holding the volume buttons and power, it vibrates and the notification lights turns green and just stays that way.
Please if someone can help i would really appreciate it. I love this phone and its not going to be easy to replace...
Thanks,
AMiiGOE
P.S I read that leaving it without the battery for 12hours will fix it, and im doing that now.
I would boot to recovery and perform a wipe then reinstall the rom.
If you deleted the files, you can mount the sd within recovery to get the files back on the sd card

Np..
1. Turn phone completely off
2. Press and hold volume down and power for a few seconds. You should see the white background with colored text.
3. Select recovery
4. Make sure the rom or any rom you downloaded is present on your sd card..
5. Select install from sd. Card
6. Browse to where the rom is, usually in /download file, unless you moved it to the root directory
7. If the zip file IS there, let's try reinstalling the rom before doing the other fancy stuff
8. Assuming you are still in the directory where the zip file is for the rom you are flashing, select that zip file by pressing the power button when it's highlighted (navigate up and down with volume keys).
9. Select yes you are sure you want to whatever it says..
10. Wait for it to complete, hopefully it says the rom installed correctly.
11. Go back to the first recovery menu _ you should see back arrows at the top.. Select those arrows until you see an option to reboot.
12. Select reboot
13. Profit?
If this works, then you are golden.. You may want to see if the rom you are using is over clocking the cpu - your cpu might not like to be o/c
Let us know how it goes!

Hey, i been trying to research all day and no go :/ ... thanks for the step-by-step but im not sure if im explaining myself very good
my phone is completely black. i used this link here to root it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
when my black screen was going on for the first time, i went home thinking if maybe i try n re-root it itll fix. well now im not sure if the process got interrupted but now its only black. no lights on the touch buttons and now i feel its getting worse and i really hope im not losing this phone :/ ... nothing shows at all no more. when i take the battery out and put it back in, i can turn it on (it'll vibrate once) but thats it... nothing more. again when i take out the battery and insert it back, if i hold the up volume key and power, the led notification light will flash orange and one vibration pulse will occur and the led will keep flashing.. holding it down, it'll just vibrate.. nothing on the screen shows anymore.. i want to call HTC but im not sure if i will be able to replace it :/ and im not sure if they can tell that its rooted..
Tonight i just pressed the power as if i were turning it on, and i will leave it over night to see if miracles happen..
please if you ANY suggestion, im alllll ears .. i hope to maybe solve this and learn my lesson to just not root it no more lol
Thanks AGAIN!

Please if someone can help i would really appreciate it. I love this phone and its not going to be easy to replace...
Thanks,
AMiiGOE
P.S I read that leaving it without the battery for 12hours will fix it, and im doing that now.

so it wont wake up. Well i would pull the battery then put it back in. Now hold the vol button down while pressing the power. Now you are in recovery. Wipe everything (partition, data factory reset, and dalvik located under the advanced menu) now relash the rom or another rom. Make sure you download a rom and place on the sd card first.

is it completely black? or it shows htc then fades to black?
Did you hold volume down, tap the power button without letting go of volume down, keep holding volume down until the htc logo appears?

Replacing hboot may fix it. But if your board is going bad it will probably happen again. I would just replace it while you can. Refurbs aren't bad, especially if they are in better shape than your current phone.
