[Q] Manual Recovery Mode Is Stuck In Hboot - HTC Inspire 4G

I've done some poking around here for an answer for about a week, and I can't seem to find anything.
When I put my phone into the manual recovery (Volume Down+Power Button), the phone instantly goes to Hboot and starts loading my goldcard. From there, I can either Re install the root update or do nothing and reboot my phone. It won't let me scroll down to recovery or any of the other things.
Now its not a major problem, I have ROM Manager with clockworkmod. But for certain ROMs they say to install them manually, which I can't do. And just the fact that I want to know why my phone won't let me do it.
Any ideas? Suggestions? Much appreciated.

Only one PD98IMG file on your sd card at a time, and when you are finished flashing it in Hboot then delete it. Otherwise you will be stuck like you are when you enter Hboot.

Try turning off, pulling sd card and then powering up with volume down pushed. It worked for me.

Recovery Mode

I touched on this in a couple of threads in development and want to get an idea if this is an issue all Inspires. We get into Hboot/Recovery mode by holding the "volume down" and "power" for about 5 seconds. For me though, this doesn't work when the phone is completely shut down. It works great if I does this during a restart though.
Why this matters?...Let's say you flash a ROM and can't get past the white logo (happened to me many a day on the captiavte ) without being able to enter recovery mode the phone will go into an endless bootloop.
Let me know if anyone of you have any issues entering hboot/recovery from shutdown.

Tricky or impossible . I've been trying for the past hour. What did you do to get it to work?
Geesh. An hour later still no luck entering recovery from shutdown.

Percisely what concerns me.
I'm sure you remember that on the Captivate, you can hold volume buttons and plug in USB to go straight to download mode as well. Maybe the Inspire is the same way?
EDIT: I do have CM installed, but I held Volume Down and plugged in USB and it went into Recovery.
The phone hasn't even been out a week; I'm sure all these things with kernels and radios will become easier and more clarified with time.
As far as booting into recovery goes, I'm still not sure what the deal is.

Soved. Disabling fastboot corrects things.

You mean disable fastboot on a working phone... lol. That's the potential issue I think we are concerned with. Isn't fastboot in the settings?

Yes but apparently a battery pull while the phone is off works just the same if you forget to disable fast boot (as I'm sure I will do )
I don't know what it is, but I've yet to be able to get it into recovery mode via the buttons. Well...that's not true, I've gotten into recovery after a battery pull by volume-down/power, but that's it.
Been having a lot of difficulties over the last day or so with the sdcard unmounting, usually accompanied with the error in the status bar. And apparently Rom Manager won't do reboot into recovery if it doesn't see the card :-/
So I've had several times now where I've wanted to get to recovery, and have to either get back to the computer for adb or do a battery pull.
Anyone else have troubles getting into recovery? I did disable the fast boot option in settings. (took me a minute to figure out that's what you guys were talking about, lol)

I've been seeing this the last day or two as well. Ejecting/Re-inserting SD card will usually remount ok. Anyone else seeing this?
I wasn't able to get to recovery from power off until I turned off fasboot, but then it booted right up with vol-/pwr.
Yea the 8gb card the phone came with, when I do a restart would not mount correctly once I got the phone booted back up, so I put a 16gb card that I had lying around into the phone and it doesn't do it now in a restart. Must be those cards that shipped with the phone, unless yours is doing it on a after market card.
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using XDA App
It's done it several times today. Just a few minutes ago I was browsing inside a zip file on the card with root explorer and then it cut me off with the error message that the SD card was unexpectedly removed.
Oh and I was able to enter recovery from a power off condition as described here (fast boot disabled in settings) But is there a way to do that when its on? Like with the N1 we can press volume-down/trackball/power and it will force a reboot.....anything equivalent on the inspire?
No reboot option in powermenu?

***Really Solved***
So, pull the battery, take out your SIM (just in case) and your Micro SD card. Then hold down Volume Down and then press and hold (for a moment) the Power button; release the power button after a moment while continuing to hold the Volume Down button. The Bootloader screen will load up and you will now be able to use the Volume rocker to select Recovery. As soon as the phone starts to reboot in to Recovery put your Micro SD card back in. I know this works because I just saved myself from what I though was going to be a Warranty claim.

Thanks a million...after flashing a different rom on my Inspire, I had a hard time getting into recovery mode...it most definitely worked best doing a restart rather than a full shut down!!
I screwed up a flashed a ROM from recovery that probably shouldn't have. I am unable to boot my phone (inspire 4g) and hangs at HTC screen. I can enter HBOOT screen however, recovery mode doesn't work. It's if the files needed to load into recovery aren't there. Any fix for this?
Thanks in advance
to enter recovery on DesireHD/Inspire 4G you must have your device booted up and hold down the power button. After that choose reboot. Then choose Recovery and press Ok. If you have a recovery installed it will reboot into that recovery if you have no recovery im not sure what will happen

Bootloader Mode

Anybody know how to get into Bootloader mode on the Inspire 4G? I have tried holding the Volume Down button while restarting and all the phone does is vibrates and reboots normally. Am I missing something?
You're doing it right (Vol Dwn + Power)
Just make sure to hold volume first before you hold power.
Make sure you have fastboot turned off in sense.
I press volume down, then select "restart". Keep holding power down until you get into bootloader.
I take the battery door off to power off, then slap it on real quick then hold volume - down, then hold power button. It can be a little tricky to do. Then ull be in bootloader and have four options to choose from. Ive only done it manually this way because i was in boot loop. Was scared ****less the first time i got boot loop, cause i wasnt sure if there was a way to get to recovery manually lol.

Are you guys booting into clockworkmod? When I hold down volume and power it goes into that.
sent from my Inspire 4G
If you manually do the volume button and power button trick it should put you in bootloader mode then you can choose to boot into recovery, ive never had my inspire boot right into recovery unless i choose it in rom manager.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
i tried doing that but it just goes to fastboot the reason that i want it to go to bootloader im trying to re-flash it back to stock...
Power your phone off. Now that your phone is off hold the volume button down and tap the power button. Now you should be in bootloader mode. If your trying to get into recovery mode download rom manager from the marketplace.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
be sure you have Fastboot turned off in Applications.
Another thing you can do is download Quickboot from the market...then boot into bootloader from there. Quickboot>bootloader
Is it really that difficult??lol, for me when I hold the power button while phone is on, it gives me multiple options to reboot , including bootloader and recovery...
If your phones off , then just holy the vol down and off key .
Oh and I have fastboot on and I have no problems.

That's because your running a ROM with an extended power menu. Other people might not be.
A lot of the people that are having problems are probably running sense roms and have fastboot on. I got confused by this at first because with fastboot on it doesn't actually shut off so the down and power method doesn't work

You can download quick boot from the market. Makes so much easier booting into recovery.
yeah Im trying to do that I am able to boot in where it shows Hboot and then you have other options to choice from but Im not all able to select anything it just scans and then go to the scan mode and ask if i want to update
I was thinking about installing the gingerbeast. Has any installed that?
I did a nanadoid back up went into Rom Manger and clicked flash C/W-R and I made that..and I did that backup current ROM also.

You can delete it either using a file manger app like astro, root explorer etc or you can do it by connecting your phone to your PC.
As to flashing a rom. Place the file in the root of your SD card to make it easier to find. I prefer to do my flashing manually. Boot into recovery either through rom manager or through hboot. Scroll down to wipe data/factory reset. Select with power button ans confirm in the next screen. Next go into advanced and select delete dalvik cache. Confirm. Now select go back and choose install from SD card. Scroll to gingerbeast rom and select and confirm.
And yes you'll be able to reads your wallpaper

HELPPPPPP i got to the stage where it says press power button once to enter HBoot then press enter on your keyboard. It did that and then i pressed enter twice on the keyboard. then what was supposed to come up was the part where it is supposed to say your phone should now search for the PD98IMG.zip. but it never did. then the computer said that it could not recognize the android driver. now the command prompt box is stuck at *daemon started successfully* and is not doing anything and has not for the past 10 min. should i turn off the phone and start all over?
Got it! Now i have to figure out which custom rom to install.Any suggestions??Guess it wasn't that hard after all. Thank god i have a son that knows how to do it!!

You still have a PD98IMG.zip file on your SD card. As long as this is there, bootloader will always try to automatically update with this file through HBoot. You need to remove this file from the SD card and you'll be able to boot to recovery

problem while flashing first ROM

So I got around to rooting my Inspire 4G this morning using the one-click method, and I am about to flash my first ROM. I downloaded the MIUI ROM and added it to the root folder on the flash drive. At first I tried booting into recovery by pressing the vol down button and power, and it boots to h-boot but at first the buttons dont do anything (it wont scroll down when I press the volume up or down button) then it starts to search for PD98IMG.zip like it did when I was rooting. So I removed the battery and started up the phone, and removed PD98IMG.zip from the SD Card root. turned the phone back off and rebooted into H-Boot menu. And again it started looking for PM98IMG.zip but when it couldnt find the file, it went back to the H-Boot menu, so I scrolled down to "recovery" and hit the power button to select. Once I hit the power button I get a white screen that says "HTC" in green, the screen just fades away and turns black, there it stays, does nothing.
Where do I go from here??????

Im not sure why you deleted the zip file and or pulled the bat in hboot. However your gonna wanna go back into hboot and factory default your phone.
From there you will want to read the one click method or perform the root with the hack kit

I took the battery out because the phone was not doing anything. The screen also goes blank when I try to select factory default on the H-Boot screen.
I guess I will try to go back to stock using the guide in the thread
Ok so I am confused.
I just went back and repeated the whole process of the one-click root. When I go to flash a ROM on the phone, do I need to format my SD card before I go to flash a ROM? What specifically do I need to do in between rooting the phone and going to flash the ROM?
When I go into the ROM manager and try to reboot into recovery from the ROM Manager, the phone shuts off, reboots, shows a white screen that says "HTC" in green, then then screen fades away and turns blank and stays there.
when I go into the one-click rooting program, and try to go through the Eng S-OFF tool to see if it will fix the black screen it gives me an error that says "bootloader corrupt"

bootloader cant scroll up and down

I held down vol down and power button, im in the bootloader but my volume keys dont let me scroll up and down. is there anything that i can do so i can scroll down to recovery.
Give it abouta minute. After booting into hboot it has to have time to scan the root sd card for a PD98img file.
it updates the pd98img file and then reboots. it comes up to the white htc screen and then just fades to black. my computer will not recognize my phone anymore. at this point i dont know of any way to reload the stock rom or any rom for that matter. my phone isnt old, i need my phone
What were you doing when all this started?
I was rerooting my phone,
and it it hung up and my only option was to pull the battery. once i pulled the battery, white htc and then fade to black is as far as it will go
Hack kit? Go to irc.
I believe i may have fixed it. i followed one of the steps in the stuck in hboot sticky. its updating the rom right now. this is the first time the computer has recognized the phone. I appreciate all the help.
