Been checking out icon packs most of the morning. I'm noticing some packs absolutely refuse to display in the gallery. Once gallery is done "loading" the set all the thumbnails are just blank, empty black pictures. Does android only support png images saved in a certain way?

I can't figure this one out. How come when I try and open the blue arrow file on my phone using gallery i see it fine but when I try and open the mail icon file the screen is black and i get nothing? Also, I can use the blue icon in Bettercut as a shortcut icon but it wont allow me to use the mail icon. They're both .png files.
Screen is all black in the preview as well, i'd definitely say its how the image was saved, also i just noticed it was 512 x 512 that seems a little large for a system icon, although im new with android and could be wrong. The system might downscale as needed
I think it's because of the transparent background in the mail icon. When I replace it with white the image opens fine.
I am trying to set a picture I took with my digital camera as my wallpaper but am having a hard time. The preview shows the crop box with the area I want but when I set it as the wallpaper the home screen instead shows the full picture scaled to about 25% and centered on the screen so I end up with a small image surrounded by a large black border.
I have edited the pictures to be 1920x1200 which I know is not the correct resolution but it is more than adequate for all the other images I have used as wallpapers. This is only happening with images I took myself also.
Has any one else seen this happen and possible know a fix?
Thanks
I may have figured it out the images that have the trouble have an extension of .JPG I re-saved one with the extension lowercase, .jpg, and it displayed properly.
Hello to you all, I recently flashed a CM9 ics rom and the one thing that was bugging me was that I was limited to the 3 status bar themes. So I did some research and found a forum about the galaxy s2 and I thought it would help, and it did, up to a point . So after I Got the files in order for me to change them I had to rename each individual file. Example: s nce the are 101 .PNG images for the battery, I had to rename them each idividually): took forever. Attached is a screen shot of what it now looks like, in a few hours when I have time a will create a flashable zip for the status bars, in coming time I'll put more pictures of many other ones with the links for them.
:what:

Can't see the picture you posted but it sounds good. Can't wait to see it. Also are you resizing the images? The s2 has a 720x1280 screen and the Fire has a 600x1024 screen.
Opps sorry bout the picture, heres a new one. and i also included the flashable .zip for the one with the playstation button. and the little android guys. let me know what you think. and just ask if you want one of your own cutsomzed one. i have a huge variety of icons
edit: i cant get the pictures to upload. they were screen shots but I also added 2 battery icons! in order to use the icons go to setting, the system, the status bar, then battery status style. then pick either ICS circle or circle, they both are modded. and fyi to use the status bar you MUST have your softbutton theme to STOCK BLUE. k? let me know what you think of them!
Hey all, I'm using UOT Kitchen to change my status bar icons and battery icon. The battery worked out fine but the status bar icons are being a little uncooperative. The signal bar icons change sometimes, but often revert back to stock signal bars. The fact that the look keeps changing is annoying. I've read that it's because UOT gives the images the wrong names in the .zip, and I need to change the names for the phone to display the images at the right time. But question is, how do I do this? I assume I'd have to match each image to the corresponding stock image and make them have the same name, then just replace the images in the systemui.apk file, if possible.

Yep that should do the trick...you can use 7zip to browse the files of an apk
If that doesn't work then you may have to decompile the apk.and do some smali/and or xml edits...I really depends on the icons you choose I think...what you would be doing is changing the references from stock to the uot

While in 7zip viewing the .png images, I click on them and Windows Photo Viewer comes up... but for some reason, no image loads. How can I view the images in the .apk so I can tell which images match up? I need to view the .png files but it doesn't seem to want to let me see a preview with Windows Photo Viewer.

You can extract them then view them, edit them, rename them etc...once your done with your edits just delete the old ones from the APK and add your new modified/renamed one...
The only images you can't edit (you can still rename...just make sure you leave the ".9" in front of the ".PNG" ) are .9.pngs -if you want to actually edit a .9.png with you will need to decompile the apk with apktool...and even then they still need to be edited in a special way. In case your wondering a .9.PNG is basically an image with no set dimension...as in it can be minipulated by .xmls to stretch (an example of one is the message box in the SMS app...the longer the text message the bigger the message box...it gets stretched down)

As you probably already noticed at least on g3 org4 ported contacts there is in my opinion ugly white border around circled contacts widget.
I found appropriate .PNG file [lg_contact4x1_default_frame.png] and applied transparency. At least now i have full RECTANGLE picture of the contact for widget.
Does anybody know, what would i have to change, to get CIRCLED contact picture without border?
these?
Like this yes. I think its not (just) png which has to be edited but some XML also
