I am curious if the Wifi Calling on this device is still available if you switch ROMs to one of the AOSP or Stock OTA Roms, I have a Nexus S but I will be moving to a place for a few months and the signal sucks completely and I will need to be able to receive calls from work on my phone.
Since the Nexus S doesn't support this and the fix doesn't appear to be anytime soon, I was checking to see if this device will allow it outside of the stock ROM from T-Mobile
Yes, Wifi calling is available on other roms besides stock.

thank you so much for this reply.
I have talked to T-Mobile about the Nexus S and they were surprised that they couldn't provide Wifi Calling on it. And unlike AT&T and a few other providers, T-Mobile doesn't offer a Femtocell as a option.

It works on CM7 but has a couple issues still, and on EB Froyo it works flawless. I have been on this rom for about a week and I have to use wifi calling at my house so it is always on and I have had no problems.

Hi, just got my Tmo One S. I have horrible coverage in my home so need to use wifi calling. Which roms have it working without issue? Preferably without Sense. Thanks!

It only works on roms based on the TMOUS release, and they are all Sense-base. Of course, there are some TMOUS roms which have removed many of the HTC-Sense components in an attempt to get as close to stock as possible which is probably what you are looking for.
Just wondering if it was possible to get a JB compatible version of the T-Mobile Wfi Calling app now that there is a leak for the SGS III that has a working version? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1883169
Sorry if this has already been asked elsewhere, i'm just anxious to try JB, but I have to have wifi calling. Unfortunately I don't know enough to do the work myself to get it working.
Thanks,

I don't believe wifi calling will work, I looked at the device tree for pyramid on jellybean branch and right now wifi calling is removed
It'll be easier to use the sensation wifi calling from a jellybean sense in the near future
Whenever t-mobile decides to that is
I recently switched from my T-Mobile Galaxy S3 to a new Nexus 5, but sadly I didn't realize "wifi calling" was a t-mobile post-installed mod only on their branded devices; so Nexus 5 doesn't have that.
Are there any ROMs that contain the T-Mobile wi-fi calling patch? (or something to that effect, though I really appreciate the ability to connect to wifi anywhere in the world and use the phone as if I was in the US)
Thanks!

I believe from what I read that the Tmobile wifi calling app has to be included with the system as there extra files that can't be simply thrown into an APK. If i recall, it had to do with the modems. I ran a rom on my gs2 that didnt have the wifi calling and spent hours searching for it and found all that info out. Basically if the ROM doesn't come from T-Mobile and is AOSP it's not gonna have wifi calling, and it's not as simple as throwing it all in an APK.
Since the Nexus 5 didn't come with it, you can pretty well give up sadly. I'm just as upset as you are, trust me

Thats a cool work around, i've seen it done for a over a year, however, google voice is dropping SIP support soon from what I heard. There are an app in the market that does this for you. I can't remember exactly what it's called. A buddy of mine showed it to me a few months back. There was a huge notice under the app that said that google voice was dropping support for this setup soon. /rumormill.
TMobile Settings for SIP Accounts?
I noticed in the new KitKat dialer application has settings for Internet calling (SIP) accounts. I hope, in the near future, TMobile will simply publish those settings so Wifi calling will be easily accessible in the system settings (vs trying bake it into the system settings separately for 4.x and newer or that app for 2.x and below).
I know I watched this thread for over a year when I was on my Nexus4 and it never happened:

This was true with the original version of T-Mobile WiFi Calling, called UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access). T-Mobile WiFi Calling now uses IMS, which they actually released into the open-source world. Unfortunately no developer has stepped forward to take this open-source information and incorporate it into an N5 rom

now that is some good news! Hopefully a dev can pick it up. <strike>I almost wanna try it</strike> Although i'd rather let someone else more experienced give it a shot. Between the 2 year old child, college, and work...i'm a little too stacked ATM to attempt this.
**Update, after looking at the code um.....no...I won't be doing that one **

This is very useful thank you. Not as awesome an answer as I was hoping but close. I'll search a bit and see what the status is there. Sadly, it doesn't look promising. It appears that code has been released for 2 years now and I haven't seen anyone bundle it into a ROM yet.

New to T-mo so I don't know if this is what you are looking for but if you go into the setting in the phone apk, there is an option for wifi calling. haven't tried it, but thought i'd put it out there.
How would you set up a sip acct to do this?

There's Internet Calling, not Wifi. Internet means using a SIP account, like Magicjack or some other VOIP service.

Got it, thanks for clarifying.
Anybody able to get that working? I think it is ROM based, so not an apk issue, and we may have to wait for Tmobile to release a rom no?

That won't happen (a T-Mobile ROM for the phone). T-Mobile's WiFi calling is based on a standard called IMS. There is test source code available, but no one has integrated it into AOSP (what CM is and most all other ROM's you'll find for this phone). This has been the case for years now and I doubt it'll change.
Not going to happen.
People are still begging for it on the Nexus 4, a year after launch.
Why not just use Google Voice?
Is WiFi calling built into the Moto G/Android 5.1.1? Being on T-Mobile, coverage is terrible in my house so if I can't use WiFi calling it's a bust for me. I really want to buy the phone though.

Will the Android M update make it possible to do WiFi calling on T-Mobile or is it a hardware limitation?
I've seen some fixes tried for it but I don't think they worked. I think it's a hardware issue and that band was removed from the phone at T-Mobile's request.

I'm wondering the same thing. I heard WiFi calling will be native in Android m. Has anyone tried WiFi calling on M yet to see if it's there?

The only way to get Tmo wifi calling is with a device that has a Tmo branded rom. If you buy a device ONLY sold as unlocked, such as this one or a Nexus (prior to Nexus 6) you will not get wifi calling. It can be ported to AOSP roms, etc. if a variant of your device is sold by Tmo, but it's very very rare to find one like Moto G with wifi calling, since it isn't available to buy from Tmo, with a Tmo branded rom.
As far as I know, the only reason N6 got it at all is because of their exclusive partition dedicated to carrier additions, like apps, binaries, etc....wifi calling is also installed here, if I'm not mistaken.
Also....not to be 'that guy' but have you tried hangouts? It does work on wifi....just saying

I have a Nexus 6 on Android M and it has WiFi calling biut wasn't sure if that was cause of the ROM I'm using or if it was just in M stock since the rumor was that M will have WiFi calling built in.
I recently broke the screen on my n6 so I bought a galaxy grand prime as a backup phone cause it has band 12 and WiFi calling. If the moto g got WiFi calling with the M update I'd take my grand prime back and go buy a moto g.

There are official factory images specific to each carrier with Nexus 6. The Tmobile one includes wifi calling. I don't have one, but my sister does and when I was walking her through a factory flash once I noticed they uploaded a tmobile .img that has wifi calling.
For moto g, I'm not sure we'll get it, but there is a MM rom in the Original Development section here, so if you'd like to play around and see if you can get it working, I'm sure many people would be appreciative!
I personally use hangouts for 100% of my mobile communication, so I'm pretty indifferent about this. If I could get a Tmo plan without voice coverage on my phone I would.
The new Nexus 5X and 6P are supposed to work with TMo wifi calling out of the box, no special updates from TMo.
What about band 12 on the Moto G? Any hope for that? The reason I care for these is because as luck would have it both at home and work TMo signal is terrible. And yes, I rely on Hangouts over wifi too. The problem with terrible signal is that it also drains your battery, so you have to automate turning cell radio off and leaving just wifi on to save battery. I'd rather not do all these sometimes unreliable workarounds.
