Inception - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I erasedeverything on my sd card but I saved some things like inception. I put it on the root of sd but it dosent work with the app. It shows up in video player. Anyone know where this files suppose to go

The inception.pyv and the inception.pyv.png, they originally go into a movie folder in your sd card. you might want to try creating the movie folder in your sd card and putting those files in there.

is the .pyv.png the banner in samsung media hub?

Sorry I didn't mean to bring all this legal stuff up.
And you could just leave it in a video folder and go the video player app click the movie and start watching. Try it

So let me get this clear..YOU formatted your sd card and expect t-mo and samsung to install something to the sdcard..
Now since YOU didnt make a backup prior to formatting you're pissed at both companies.
This is not either companies fault, this is on you and only you. Own it and deal with it.

So you think 1.3gb media file should be included in a restore??? wow... Don't blame others because you forgot to back it up.
It's not included because it's not actually part of the Rom it's exclusive to the SD card that came with the phone.

Well off to watch inception lol

You are right it is their fault, . They could put it in with the Odin restore file because you OWN the phone meaning you OWN the movie. I bought a few movies from the play store and I can format the device all I want and still download the movie because I OWN it. Amazing concept I guess right

Since this thread is on the Inception topic, does anyone know a player that can play the movie, or a way to convert it to a watchable format on PC/Android? Ever since flashing to a custom ROM (first Octane, now AOKP), I haven't been able to find a player that will play it, so I just removed it from my SD card. If there's a way to pull, I'll copy it off my sister's phone.

.PYV files seem to be a Samsung proprietary file format that hasn't been cracked yet, but that's what I remember from months ago.

I'm not sure on this, but on froyo there was allsync or something like that which might work. I believe I read somewhere that you need media hub also.

No its your fault for not making a backup. You never owned the movie you had a free copy that was part of your phone. T-Mo and Samsung are not required to supply the movie that came on the sdcard not the rom itself. Everything they include in a rom is available within a tarball. If it is not included then its not something they are responsible for. When I bought my phone the shortcut for the movie was on my homescreen but no where on the sdcard.
The company responsible for providing the movie is the movie studio. So they are who you should be bugging and complaining to.

So has my phone I bough already unlocked and the sdcard didn't have the inception movie ......the funny part its that I was newbie in android stuff and the xperia play was already available and I just bough the phone because I was thinking "oh yeah free movie and it looks cool" then when I charged the phone first thing I did is click the movie icon but then it said file not found my first reaction was "FUUUUUUUUUUUU" lol

I tried it for the same reason - on my external card. It wouldn't read the card. I'm not sure if there is a work-around or if it can be configured in a modified kernel.. but out of the box it did not work.
ntfs? bad idea.
This is linux.
You could use a different file system but ntfs support in linux is crap and ud need to use additional tricks. it is not natively supported in any kernels.
grab the kernel number and you can google the filesystems itll be willing to handle. you can expect at least reiser ext3 and such.
Those are miles beyond ntfs anyways.
You may have to teach your phone some tricks before you can use one of them though. But that is most definitely feasible.

Just a suggestion / thought. On a screen this size, Why don't you re-encode to a lower bit rate? You could of course fit more movies this way too.
I just want to drag and drop.
But uh I guess I'll just watch the big ones on my tv and save the tv shows for the captivate.
Thanks for the replies

Shouldn't be too hard to re-encode with Handbrake. Set it up once, point it at some media, and it'll be done by the time you're done catching up on a few forums.

Windirstat

Does anyone know of an android app like windirstat for the PC? My SD card is full, and I would appreciate a graphical interface to help me clean it out.
Thanks for all recommendations.

wow, never heard of windirstat before, that looks pretty cool
sorry, I don't know..
I found a workaround. If you plug the phone into a computer and mount it as a drive, Windirstat will work on it.

That is what I did. I didn't understand how I filled up my 32GB sd card (only about half was music and videos) . Well apparently 20 or so clockwork nandroid backups take up alot of space.

Yep, I move all my nandroid backups except a stock one (for PRI updates) and the latest working for the ROM I'm currently running to my PC.
You can also use the app Astro.
astro /menu/tools/sdcsard usage
Tells you the same exact info. And of course I'm talking the free version of astro file manager.
windirstat is pretty cool. Installed it last night
as for seeing this stuff on the phone, check out THIS APP . It's called DiskUsage, I just found it on AppBrain.com

It's located in what looks like /movie/ on your SDCARD.
It's in a .pyv format, which is probably why you can't watch it or see it on your TV.
You can look for a .PYV converter on the internet, but on a quick google search I saw nothing.
Good luck.
Anyone have a download for it? I got my SGS4G refurbished and it wasn't on there correctly. Actually it wasn't even on there at all!

Sorry can't post any movies on here. It's against forum rules even though it was originally on the phone. You'll have to get it from someone who has the phone or go to the store and get it there. I was in the same boat. Luckily my cousin has the same phone. So now I have my whole sd card backed up to my external drive.
Lol what? I didnt want the movie to be posted here but I am within legal means but whatever.

internal memory music

hey ive searched but couldnt find a solution....my question is that whether i can play music from internal storage as 4 gb is too much for apps....how can i do that...im on ota ics
Short answer? No. The internal memory is reserved only for the system partition. Even if you could throw some mp3's into a folder in the system side. There's not a music player out there that would look for the files in the system partition. So, no man. You're outta luck.

This is some what useless way to say if there is no other option..... The only real way would be to use something like root explorer..... From there you could move a folder of music from sd to /folder name..... Then from root explorer you could use the music files one at a time .... Best bet go to rat shack and get a 32 gb sd for like $20.....

Well, actually you don't want to stick in /system or /anythingelse, you will bootloop.... If you copy anything to internal storage, it is best to "attempt" put it in /data/music or something, but that is still not a good way to do it. Now this is all just in theory mind you, as it is known that putting things that were not meant to go in certain places on this phone has caused way more heartache than it should and caused more bootloops than I care to elaborate on now.

+1 :good: Yea I have had more than my fair share or bootloops from just looking at my / wrong LOL.....
all of my internal memory is going waste..i hardly use any apps....all i do is music and vids.....i had 16 gb card but it had problems with my ph.....my battery wasnt lasting long enough.... so internal memory problem is the same with other phones also ....i wonder how ppl use nexus phones?
Some phones have user accessible internal storage and in those phones it's done in a way that the user wont be able to modify critical system files. The Atrix 2 is not one of those phones so if you make a mistake you will get a bootloop like hankbizzo5 said. How did you determine that the SD card was reducing your battery life?
Just make sure you get a class 4 card and you'll be fine.
my battery was draining very fast...so i used battery monitor widget...i showed me 200-300 mA discharge even when screen off....so i formatted....same peroblem....i changed the sd from 16 gb sandisk class 4 to 2 gb ....nw everything is fine
so nothing could be done? i mean galaxy note....s3 all have large internal....cant we do anything abt it?....i mean atrix 2 is one of the best dual cores around...i thought this would be solved with ics...some say moto media centre transfers music to internal but i doubt

Yeah, I got an idea.... go find Jims sig and click on his dropbox link, sign up, and you will have 2.5gbs free online storage and you can even put your files in a public folder to play them from anywhere. Its not 4gb but it could be if you then get other people to sign up.
FWIW, I used a 32gb class 10 from time to time and never really noticed a battery problem. That's interesting.

No nothing can be done as far as actually utilizing the internal storage for your personal use. Yes, I'm not surprised your note can do it, add I have access to my internal storage on my skyrocket. But you just can't do it with the A2.

First, I don't think this belongs in the development area. Next, there is NO WAY to get your stuff back unless you were rooted, already had a backup, SD card or idk. A factory reset wipes all internal storage, including your personal data. Sorry...
The lesson is to use something like Google Photos or even Samsung Backup.
If the photos were on the sdcard AND the card has not been used in the meantime, you can possibly recover some files using R-Studio ($$) or similar free software (testdisk, zero recovery).
If the data was on the internal memory AND you haven't overwritten it by using the phone you can send it to a recovery company for $$$. There is a channel on youtube called HDD Recovery Services where they show how they achieve this.
Up the phone is not necessarily the best place for your tobacco...
How do you 'accidentally' reset your phone?
It asks if you are sure multiple times, and explains what is about to happen first

Root the phone, try DiskDigger from the PlayStore.
