[Q] 4G Not Working On Wifi Hotspot Evo+CM7 - General Questions and Answers

I recently had GPS issues on my Evo running CM7 so I applied a .zip GPS fix and also decided to flash the wimax radio update and the newest Tiamat kernel. My GPS runs better than ever, my 4G is up to 4.5 mbs download, and CM7 seems to run even faster under Tiamat. However, now when I run my CM7 wifi hotspot I can't get internet if I'm connected to 4G(3g works great). I can get wimax speeds when I'm on my phone's browser and when I run PDAnet to my laptop, just not over wifi tether. Any ideas?

[Q] Upgraded to Froyo - questions & problems

I upgraded my Captivate to Froyo. I have a few issues.
GPS - My GPS worked well after the official fix on 2.1. Now the GPS is crappy once more. Is there a way to fix this?
On occasion the phone turns off for no reason, even with a full battery and just lying around for a couple of hours. Is this a known fixable issue?
Tethering seems to be built in without extra software or rooting. I was able to connect my Windows 7 computer via USB and WiFi. However, the PC says "No connection to the Internet". I noticed that I can't use the Captivate's wifi conenction when it's also a wireless hotspot, but I do have a decent 3G connection. Any ideas?
Thanks much.

Is the version of froyo you're running JI6? I had weird random shutdowns with that version too. I flashed Cog 2.3b6 (based on JJ4), which doesn't have the random shutdown issue, so I imagine it's a bug in the JI6 build.
If you go to settings>wireless>mobile AP, that will actually turn your phone into a mini wifi router that uses your phone's 3g connection for internet access. If you can't get your computer to connect to the internet through your phone, you might want to go over your settings again. I've only tested it once on JI6 and it seemed to work fine.
As for the GPS issue, sorry dude can't help you there. I'm one of the lucky few that has a captivate with a well functioning GPS, stock JF6 through Cog 2.3b6. The only thing I could suggest is to try a different rom :\

[Resolved] Wifi tether not working at all since getting cyanogen 6

Wifi tether used to work flawlessly but ever since I upgraded to cyanogen 6 it stopped working. Whenever I start up wifi tether (I have perm root) and begin tethering it also opens up the tmobile wifi tether hotspot setting and I can't close it while wifi tether is running. I've tried connecting with laptop and desktop and neither work. Phone doesn't show anyone is trying to connect. it shows as limited connectivity and I check the access control everytime but nothing is there. The stock tether hotspot setting doesn't work either.
I have a G2 htc vision running cyanogen 6. Thanks.

[Q] adhoc mode - wifi calling - g2x in the UK

I'm one of those stupid ppl that bought the g2x way back when it was supposed to work on all sorts of bands and what not. Anyways I didn't keep up with the developing story over the spring/summer, went to the UK right after I got it, and after multiple roms/settings and reading a lot, found out US t-mo g2x baseband version apparently doesnt work on 3 and orange 3g networks here (or at&t in the US if i remember correctly).
Anyways i still need internet on my phone. I use a google voice number and when connected to a wireless router here, I could call anyone in the US via google voice and t-mobile wifi calling. It was pretty great. Plus its what i use to check all my emails, pay my bills, etc etc, so internet on my phone is pretty necessary.
We recently switched to a mobile broadband internet provider (connects to computer via usb dongle, uses a sim card on the 3 network). There is no longer a wireless router here. however, both the mac and win 7 home premium machines we have here work fine for internet sharing for other devices doin an ad-hoc wireless setup.
My problem right now is that I cannot find a ROM/mod/config whatever for the g2x that supports both 1) wifi calling, and 2) adhoc wireless connectivity hack that together would allow me to make/receive US calls from the network here. I've tried to setup different programs on each comp that are supposed to broadcast infrastructure mode, but they havent worked right or didnt work on win 7, etc. Besides, I use adhoc networks a lot and want my phone to have ad hoc connectivity enabled.
For enabling adhoc wireless, I've looked at some of the wpa_supplicant patch types for other phones and over versions of android, but havent found any type of g2x/2.3.3 .zip that works universally or separately. several i haven't tried because i'm not sure how much it could/would mess up the g2x.
I'm currently on Xboarder's 2.3.3 OTA tweaked http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158513 . As far as I can tell it currently doesnt support adhoc wireless networks. I don't mind moving to a rom with 2.3.4/5 or whatever so much, although I'd prefer to use something with the recent OTA, since they've been less buggy for me. I was doin the CM7 nightlies (having adhoc enabled) recently but also have serious APN problems with it which I imagine is tied to wifi calling not working for me with cm7.
Any questions or suggestions appreciated - I'm mainly just looking for a solid rom thing that supports 1) gapps, 2) wifi calling, and 3) wireless adhoc connectivity. anything else is superfluous at this point. also a working solution to establishing wireless adhoc connectivity on the g2x regardless of the ROM or not would be a dream (esp. after the OTA 2.3.3 update)...and as far as i could find not available.
Or, if someone has a good lead on getting reverse tethering or the baseband version updated to work in the UK (if possible), I'm all ears, but so far solutions in both of those directions have been difficult/impossible to track down.
There's a thread dedicated to this in the SGS2 forum. Maybe some of what's discussed is transferable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1066102
one of the links provided in that thread included a how-to webpage for the galaxy S . the wpa_supplicant file provided there worked surprisingly (normally the wrong ones bootloop me). that is, replacing mine with that one worked on a g2x running xboarder's 2.3.3 ota for enabling adhoc wireless connectivity (as I am receiving internet connectivity over an adhoc network connection on my g2x).
however, wifi-calling/my account-device/ etc (t-mobile apps) are not working or not connecting, which issue i'll take up in the thread for the rom itself. the t-mobile APN is visible, which seems to be a positive thing.
also, the wpa_supplicant from the CM7 nightlies bootlooped it, although i guess might be expected to since the one i tried was from 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 i believe.
thanks for the help. think i'm one-step closer to re-establishing wifi calling here.
EDIT: wifi calling is working over the macbook pro adhoc network but not the windows 7 machine's network. the scope of the remaining issues seems to lie with windows 7 internet sharing and not the phone/rom. that is to say, the above wpa_supplicant file gives adhoc connectivity/wifi calling with at least one g2x 2.3.3 rom, and perhaps others. the general adhoc connectivity question comes up occasionally for different phones, and for 2.3.3 on the g2x it seems this is one solution.

[Wifi Tethering] Sense vs AOSP roms

hello,
When I am on a sense rom (currently I am using the Venom rom 4.1.1, sense 4+), I can use any radio and wifi tether with the phone screen off.
When I wifi tether on an AOSP rom (I tried Blackbean 6 and blackbean 7), the internet would not work when the phone screen turns off. (I would still stay connected to the tethered wifi network, but there's no internet connection). The only exception is using radio 0.16, which allows the internet to work even when the screen is off, but it only works partially. half of the time the phone's connection would get stuck in 3g instead of H; there would then be no internet connection, and the data network will just reset. Again, the network only gets stuck in 3g and reset when the screen is off.
As much as I love AOSP roms, I can't live without tethering. Anyone has a solution to this? is there something wrong with the radio configuration in AOSP roms for the one S?

[Q] Wifi tether extremely slow, but USB tether fast

Hi, I used to tether all time without any issues on previous devices, but for some reason it's unusable on my N5. I did quite a bit of troubleshooting and can't figure out why wifi tethering is extremely slow.
My setup:
Nexus 5 running Lollipop 5.1, build LMY471
Macbook Air circa 2011, OSX Yosemite
ATT, LTE provisioned (have gotten 20-30Mbps speeds from the phone direct via speedtest.net)
APN set to IPV4 settings for regular/roaming - didn't change the default settings.
Not interested in rooting now (or using PDANet)
Here's my troubleshooting so far:
The phone gets direct speeds of 4-10Mbps from speedtest.net's app, which isn't fast but is fine when I need to tether.
I can replicate those speeds with USB tethering.
Bluetooth tethering and Mifi tethering result in speeds of 0.1Mbps, so slow that it can barely load speedtest.net.
I've also tested this with Bluetooth off on both my phone and my Mac, same results.
I've tried this from multiple locations with the same result, 0.1Mbps speeds.
I don't think it's a wifi interference issue since Wifi Explorer on my Mac shows that my signal is at 80% compared to 40% for other signals.
Also, if it were interference based then I would see more variable speeds instead of 0.1-0.2Mbps consistently.
Any suggestions for further troubleshooting?
Thanks!
