after a few hours finally began rooting my inspire. following attn1's guide and got to the s-off, superCID and more step. i let the cmd run its course and it stopped on:
"please wait - booting recovery to patch downgrade ROM.....
ECHO is off.
please wait"
and it hasnt moved for about 20 minutes now. my phone shows clockworkmod recovery v3.0.2.5 and a list of options under it. what is my next step?
Off the top of my head, are you sure you don't need to use the menus and select the downgrade zip to continue and it's just waiting on you instead?
I'm not too sure, the root process went flawlessly for me.
you need to install a custom rom
i got it figured out and i got a cm7 rom installed but there was no marketplace app. now everything i try to load through rom manager it says there was an error? i tried downgrading again and rom manager still gives me the error. any ideas?

What do you mean you tried downgrading again? You either have s-Off or you don't. Flash a stock,,rooted PD98IMG.zip, make sure stuff works, make sure clockwork recovery is flashed correctly, etc.
What ROM manager error?
Look, this isn't directed completely at you so don't get hurt, but...
people, noobs, whoever.... How can you expect help troubleshooting something when all anybody has to work with are error descriptions like...
"rom manager gave an error."
"I tried rooting and it failed."
"I rebooted and it did something weird and then froze."
See the absurdity of that?

sorry i wasnt clear enough. everything is working fine. the i flashed "cm7 nightly" with rom manager. now everything seems to be working but i couldnt find the market app anywhere. so then i repeated step 3 of the hack kit because i couldnt get rom manager to do anything.
when i boot up rom manager, it says "you must root your phone for ROM Manager to function. Superuser was not found at "/system/bin/su" or "/system/xbin/su". Use google search on your computer to find instructions to root your phone."
when i try to load any other rom through rom manager it says an error occured while attempting to run privelaged commands.
and i understand about noobs asking dumb questions, i see them in every section of the forum. its just hard not to when your phone quits working lol
i guess maybe i unrooted my phone by going back into the hack kit..im going to try flashing cm7 nightly again. any idea why the marketplace isnt there? thats the only problem i noticed.
i flashed cm7 nightly again the exact same way i did last time and the market is there now...no idea what happened.

Not to sounds snarky, but had you read the first post of the CM7 Nightly thread, you'd have seen that gapps has to be dl'ed and flashed through Clockwork Mod.
Here's the link for GAPPS. http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/gapps/gapps-gb-20110120-signed.zip

i got the market on there now but everytime i open it it says it will only be open one time unless i hit cancel. thanks for the info guys. im gonna do some googling and see if i cant figure out how to make market stay.
thanks again

That makes the problem much easier to figure out for people.

hi, i have a samsung intercept from vm. I used a SuperOneClick to delete some stock apps and somethings wrong my on-screen keyboard is completely gone and i keep getting this message saying something about the android process has unexpectedly ended please try again and some times it wont stop coming up and wont let me do anything. i deleted stock email app, some of the virgin mobile stuff I'm new to this as you can tell. please help and thank you
"the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. please try again."
Rom and Recovery
I am assuming your phone is rooted so can you please tell me what ROM and recovery you are running?
its not rooted any more i used a temporary root i believe its on the stock rom i tried factory reset but it still the same without the apps and the missing keyboard, thanks for your reply

This tells me you basically deleted some system applications that support the Google applications like Gmail, Calendar, etc. Not a good thing lol. Next time when you are deleting "bloatware," don't delete anything that starts with com.google or com.system. These are the packages that help run android and google applications.
Incidently, Do you know what adb is? If so, have you ever used it?
ive seen adb when i ran superoneclick im tryin to learn all this i use to have an iphone and hackin that is pie compared to this cause there is so many android phones

Don't worry, the initial rooting process is the hardest part. After that, it only gets easier. Then you can put on whatever custom ROM you want and trust me, its awesome!
Anyway, I don't think you need to use adb juuust yet. Did you try to get to recovery mode yet and try to factory reset the phone?
To get to recovery mode on your Samsung Intercept, you hold, all these buttons at the same time, for a few seconds:
Volume Down, Call, and End buttons.
This will either bring you to recovery mode or have an option for recovery mode. Once there, there will be a setting to factory reset your phone. It will say something along the lines of "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" It won't delete anything on your SD card but wipes out all your apps and restores it to when you first used it.
yea i did that and the stuffs still missing : / im tryng to use the sw update to re install stock 2.1 but i keep getting "cannot open .bin file"
I had that problem too. What i did is connect my phone with samsung kies and that restored evrything back for me.
May that not help, try to flash it back with original firmware using odin
just search on this forum
This is the site that contains evry firmware of evry samsung phone:
samfirmware.com
you only have to register
i dont see my phone in the android section
I'm not having any luck with this... nothing seems to work

Don't fret. You haven't bricked your phone yet.
Ok. I checked to see if any forum or site was hosting the original signed zip of the OS that came with your phone and I couldn't find any.
I have an idea though. Not sure if it might work but theoretically it should. Although your phone WAS rooted (aka. temporary root), its not anymore which means you don't have any custom firmware and are running stock.
IF you updated your phone to 2.2 froyo with the official update, then it should completely replace the OS and not only reverse the damage but upgrade it as well.
So you take the phone, put it into "Recovery Mode," and then use adb to push this zip (link below) on to the ROOT OF THE SDCARD. not anywhere else!
then in the recovery, select the "flash/update zip" option and select the new zip.
In theory, this should work. Cannot be sure so tread with caution!
Here is the link:
http://02ee24b.netsolhost.com/downloads/crowder/update.zip
This is the full article that explains how to root your phone after:
http://www.crawfordium.com/blog/?p=22
Best of Luck!!
Thanks I'll try it out
I got this "E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip (Status 7) Installation aborted. I tried formatting the sdcard and redoing it but i got same message again I also tried going into superoneclick and hitting unroot and it says its unrooted but i still get the (status 7) message :/
and the sw upgrade says cannont open .bin file
This might work!
I was reading through some Samsung Intercept forums for you and this looks promising:
http://forum.sdx-developers.com/int...e-to-froyo-2-2-with-no-baseband-modification/
Go through the first three steps and flash the stock 2.1 on to your phone and it should be restored to basic regular Android 2.1. It IS sprint's stock 2.1 for intercept not Virgin Mobile's but its ok because it doesn't replace Virgin Mobile's Baseband so its fine. Instead of seeing the Virgin Mobile boot up screen, it will show you a sprint boot up screen. No biggie.
Try it and tell me how it goes. remember to follow instructions carefully and to the tee.
OK NOW IM ON SPRINT 2.1 and my number works and now im going to try upgrading to 2.2 show i try doing it over the air or just do it manually?
i just did it manually now im going to try to root it
now how do i get superuser and all that good stuff with the roms i dont like the slapstick 1.4
Hello, boy do I have a mishap. Well, anyway to begin I will say that I decided I wanted to root my phone to debloat it. So what I did, is downloaded the EE4 update and did the VooDoo V4 Kernel that flashes CWM and EXT4 and other junk. Well that all went great. I got it rooted and such but then just tinkering around I went into Rom Manager and told it to back up. WELL, when I did this the phone got locked on the SAMSUNG boot screen for hours and continued to refuse to boot. SO, I attempted to fix it by installing altered beast just to get the os running again and went into clockwork and backed it up. Then I went to the rooted ed1 to bring it back up to EE4 rooted and with the voodoo kernel and such but it refuses to open clockwork! The voodoo kernel changes filesystems and roots it and such but clockwork wont load. When I try to flash it in rom manager it says its succesful and then i go to reboot in recovery. It takes me to the Samsung Recovery 3e, I try to the update.zip, (yes i took the cwm recovery-update.zip and renamed it and through it in the sd card root) but all that happens is that a progress bar shows up for a split second then the android guy with the triangle and ! shows up and it does nothing. Help? I really need to back it up, preferably in the rooted ed1 but in ee4 will work to. Any ideas would be appreciated. I used odin v1.3 by the way. Im willing to try anything to get clockwork to boot so i can back it up. What do I do?
EDIT: Also, now when I go into 3e recovery, it complains saying " cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 " or something like that.
Did you read anything on this forum beforehand? Or just go link by link downloading files and deciding what to try on your phone?
Just saying..
Yeah, I did. Ive searched everywhere. I cant find anything about my problem. Ive looked at things that are close, hoping a solution can be found but nothing and no I wasnt just downloading files and spoon feeding them to my phone.. I just wanted to be able to debloat it.
Go search about Rom Manager and let us know what you find out...
I dont see how thats going to get me one step closer to solving my problem. Ive done the searching, now im asking.
Start w/ this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1100384
I can't tell where you are currently on your phone from reading that as it's to much text in one paragraph and it isn't put together in a logical sense and seems to jump around. I would look at the instructions for going to rooted EE4 in the Dev forum as that should get you to where you want to be with voodoo/cwm/rom
Instead of being a Forum Snob. If you know the answer, why don't you just help him out?
There's an abundance of confusing information on here and everyone uses acronyms. I too searched for hours on how to solve a similar problem and ended up having it taken care of for me. People join communities like this one for help. Not to get flamed for asking a question. It may be elementary to YOU but not everyone.
Thanks, for the care. Sorry about that if its jumbled, im frustrated with this because ive flashed the rooted ed1 about a billion times now, trying everything to get it functioning. Id be glad to try to explain again if that could help? Ah, yes. Well, I returned to the forum about installing the voodoo kernel. I followed the process word for word. But it just doesnt seem to want to work. Right now I just flashed it again back to the rooted ed1. Would I be able to put CWM on there at that point?

Oh and sorry if Im not getting this. Are you saying use a application that imnuts made? If so, could you be so nice to link it? Or a method he used? I looked for stuff but I didnt find anything other then what looks like a stock rom/kernel ed1 from him
I know how it is to be frustrated, but like they all said all of your questions have already been answered.
Here's my attempt to help:
Your problem lies in trying to flash CWR through ROM Manager, it currently doesn't play well with our phones. Word is that Koush (the creator) needs to update something for it to work with our phones. The bootloader is unlocked.
To flash imnuts' version of CWR, you'll need to use Samsung's leaked software called Odin - it's PC only. The alternative is Heimdall which is supposed to be cross-platform compatible, but the latest version is command-line only.
You have to find out if you've converted your system to EXT4 or if it's still RFS. That depends on if you have the Voodoo lagfix enabled or not. Check out the dev section and look for the titles that say [RECOVERY], [ODIN], [ROM], and/or something like "Get yourself to EE4 successfully".
A few links:
[HOW-TO] Get a rooted version of EE4
[RECOVERY][6-11-11]Clockwork Mod Recovery

Well, currently right now its rfs. Its the stock file system. What I was going to do, or did before, was to put it in download mode and flash the VoodooV4 Kernel. It roots the phone, and all that good stuff and is suppose to put the Voodoo recovery/cwm on there.
EDIT: Heres the proccess I followed before.

The recovery is a separate flash, both in odin. First the kernel, then Recovery.
Just follow here from the beginning, it should work for you:

Well I have good news. I would like to announce that I have successfully installed CWM. I guess my phone just didnt like the other one or something. But following this link,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122657
I was able to get it installed. Now my only question is, I want this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092114 for my phone. But its not in a zip. Am I out of luck? Or do I not have to use CWM to install the kernel? Can I use odin and still be okay?

You do need Odin to load that, but i'm wondering why you want to? Did you install the PBJ kernel following the instructions from the other link?
If you want to go down this route, be sure to apply the SD Card fix as well - you'll find posts about it.
Hi All, Yes i am a noob and this is my first post. i have read all previous posts regarding this matter but havn't been able to find anything. I have managed to S-Off my phone (Hboot 1.17.1111) through revolutionary and put Cwm 4.1.0.4 on it but when i try to flasn su-2.3.6.3 Zip it says, finding, opening, then Can't open/sdcard/su-etc.zip (bad) Installation Aborted
I have tried downloading zip from different locations and latest ones but to no avail.
Any ideas Please.
My phone is Taiwan model dose this make any difference?
Cheers.
Try to flash it again.
I've had the same problem but after insisting a 2nd time, the flash was Ok.
Supertool V3 works wonders!
Hi, Thanks for your advice, i tried it 10 times and still nothing! I read lots of posts on other forums etc people having same prob but no one seems to know what the prob is. Anyways i found this Supertool V3 program you run on your computer plug in your phone and prees a enter and it does it all for you the whole kit and kaboodle and it worked first time.
Yay, i am now rooted.
Cheers,
10 times
I didn't know this tool so I couldn't advise you to use it....But if that's good now, excellent for you !!!
Why not use the latest version of Superuser as opposed to that ancient build...
http://goo-inside.me/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
First off, do this.
Second, the problem you're having is likely because the su.zip file you're trying to flash is bad. Just because you downloaded it doesn't mean you got a clean copy. Files get corrupted during the download process or in the transfer to your SD card.
CWM is basically saying "Look dude, this file isn't going to do what you think its' going to do so I'm not going to install it and eff up your phone. You're welcome!"
So again, get the newer version of SU linked above. And if you have this problem again with SU or anything in the future, the first thing to do is get a fresh copy of the file and start over.
I tried both methods above but my GT-P1000 reboots to cwm recovery. Tried wiping data etc.
Can anyone help please?
This is the HTC Sensation forum, go to your devices forum and ask there
First things first let me apologize for being the new guy with the stupid questions. I've searched through many pages and haven't been able to find anybody describing this issue, if there is another thread with the same problem I'd be more than happy to be pointed in the right direction and solve this for myself.
Now, as I'm sure many others did for the first time last night I rooted my GS3 after hearing the CM10 was now stable. I followed a guide on unlocking and everything went smoothly for the most part. I've got EZ Unlock installed and unlocking the phone and I'm using ROM Manager trying to install CM10.
From the ROM Manager app I downloaded CM10 and tried installing. It downloaded just fine but when it reboots it boots to the recovery screen and asks to either reboot or choose a file to load. Under all of that in yellow letters it says something along the lines of "CSA Loaded Successfully" or something like that, sorry I don't have the exact text right now as I am not near my phone. Either way at first I just went with Reboot Now assuming that would reboot and launch the new ROM, instead it launched factory Touchwiz. So I tried again but this time I went in found the ROM on the SD card and tried loading it from there, still to no avail. It attempts to load then comes up with a "Failed To..." message then boots back to factory. I know I am not being very helpful without having the exact wording of these messages and I'll post them soon if I can get them again but I'm hoping somebody can point out an obvious mistake I've made. Either way any and all help is appreciated!
It sounds to me like you didn't install a custom recovery and you're using the factory recovery which means you won't be able yo flash your ROM until you go install your stock recovery. If you don't know how look in droidstyles guide in the development section.

Hello, I have a Motorola Defy which i have rooted and installed clockworkmod on it. I tried to install Cyanogen mod 7.1 from the website. The phone got to the boot screen where it continued to cycle through it thing and nothing more. I restarted the phone and now it gets stuck at the first screen where its says "google". I tried to enter recovery again (power + volume down) and clockworkmod is completely gone. I want to go back to the stock OS so it atleast works again. Ive tried using the update.zip option in the stock recovery mode but I keep getting an error "failed to verify whole-file signature" when using a signed copy of cyanogen mod. I also tried putting my backup in a zip with the same error. Ive even tried formatting my sd card. What do i do?
I was more or less where you are around June or so. I'm no expert by any means, but perhaps I can help. If memory serves I used a program called RSD Lite to flash it back to the stock unlocked rom I got from the "bl7 finally rooted" thread - if you unlocked a different way, I'd try to find your original rom.
Once you get to where you understand how to get back to stock it makes the whole thing a lot less scary, or it did for me. Once you get back up and running, try flashing Whiterabbit. I didn't have luck getting anything else to run, but that one worked the first time I tried it, and I'm very happy I persevered. Miles better than the stock OS.

I cant use the program as my phone doesnt get detected when connected to my pc.
OK, lets start with the basics, if I can remember it right... Have you used RSD Lite successfully before this? Drivers installed? Using bootloader mode? If any of this is unfamiliar go hit the beginner's thread - if you have done all this you may be beyond my help and in need of someone a bit more experienced.

I fixed it, there were a different set of buttons to hold to get into boot loader. The default recovery was not over written as i thought (happened to all my other phones). Thank you very much for you help. It has been very much appreciated.
Glad to hear it.
