I've just received a message about system update for my Dcharge, currently it is rooted running on
Basedbad Version: i510.06 V.ED1, SCH-I510.ED1
Buid Numberr: SCH-I510.ED2
Is it safe to run OTA update or do I have to follow the following thread:
[How To] Install Rooted EE4 Update to do the update. I would hate to reinstall all my apps (yes I could use Titan Backup) but would prefer to update without wipe if possible. TIA.
You shouldn't have to wipe data. Just make sure voodoo is disabled and you have stock recovery. You will have to odin rooted kernel once you update if you want to remain rooted.

So I should click on update OTA and then re-install the kernel? My is currently rooted as stated above and I would like to remain rooted.

As long as you meet the two requirements I stated above. You can accept the update. Then flash your rooted kernel again

How does one acquire and flash the stock recovery? Can you link to it?

Right now the only way is to flash the stock rom/kernel, as no one has released the recovery.tar for odin. You can get it by odin ed1 or any other stock pkg.
If you haven't updated to ee4 then just odin ed1 rooted pkg and upgrade from there.
If you are on ee4 there is a set of odin pkgs here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116867 the first one has stock kernel and recovery.
Not many of us would have stock recovery on a rooted phone since that will defeated the purpose of rooting. Looks like I have to go back to stock ed1 and get the OTA to get ed4 then rooted kernel. Not sure if any major benefits to go to ed4 other than the mobile hotspot fixed that it has.
Forgot one other question, my baseband is ed1 but my built is ed2, I am assuming that I still am on ed1 correct? TIA.

Initially, I was going to just have a post for stock ED2, but I got a request for an ED1 update.zip as well, so this will be for CWM package for Stock ROMs, and I'll try to keep it up-to-date. These packages are fully stock, bloated, and Odexed.
Currently, we only have two system releases available (officially) and both are available here. As more updates come out, I'll update this post as I have time to create the package for said updates. If someone else can create it before I do, then I'll just edit the post and link to the download, giving the creator proper credit.
NOTE: The ED2 was packaged with the kernel from ED1, so flashing this may not necessarily restore OTA update functionality. Also, flashing any of these packages does not guarantee OTA functionality. The ED2 package should now have the ED2 stock kernel in with it
WARNING: If you are currently on a Voodoo Lagfix kernel and are running with the lagfix enabled, you will need to disable the lagfix fully before flashing any stock ROM package. Failure to do so will result in a non-booting phone and could also potentially lead to data corruption.
Installation
1. Download the zip file and place it on your SDCard.
2. Boot into CWM Recovery
3. Install ZIP that you downloaded.
4. Reboot and enjoy your bloated goodness.
Download - ED1
Download - ED2
Download - EE4
has anyone tried to get root shell with recovery on a stock unrooted device?
Thanks imnuts, I appreciate the work. One question, about OTA, if for some reason it doesn't restore OTA abilities, can we manually request an OTA or would it be gone completely.
For me stock is something I will do between ROM's or for repair purposes. Once the custom ROMS get a bit further along I will be on several. I need to collect all of my notes on what to do when and how so I don't mess up my phone, again.
Good to know that CWM will now allow us to disable Voodoo and restore FTW.

If needed, we can probably hack together a zip file that can be flashed in CWM to do incremental updates to various system files to return full OTA update-ability. If we ever get a full Odin image, that would also work.
Also, updated the title and OP. I'll just use this to post stock ROM zip files meant for flashing in CWM. Currently have ED1 and ED2 in the first post, will add more as we get updates.
This is great, now we can reboot into recovery, disable voodoo, use one of the two update.zip files and then use Odin to reflash the root/kernel/cwm package. Great work.
Will this effect clockwork

Yes. No more CWM after flashing these. You will be back on stock kernel/recovery.
Hopefully no one tried to flash either of these. There was an error in the updater-script that I just fixed, so if you downloaded the files "just in case" before this post, delete and redownload.
Ed2 worked for me lol

Can I rename this to update.zip if I can't get past the stock recovery screen and do an update zip command line from stock recovery?

No, these packages have no signature, so stock recovery will not flash them.
Imnuts, are these rooted? or will you lose root by flashing?
Can some one help me how do i root my charge i see the one click but thats 4 ed1my phone say ed2

I believe that they are still rooted as I don't think I removed su/Superuser.apk/busybox from them before zipping them up.
If I want to go back to ED1 with the abillity to do OTA ED2, will flashing this ED1 package do it? (I am on pbj time and ED2 rooted/cwm).
I have disabled voodoo, so basically I'm asking if I should use the ED1 ODIN downgrade or this?
Ultimately I want to be completely stock, on ED1, stock kernel, stock recovery, with the ability to update to ED2.
Phone is currently: PBJ time Kernel (no lagfix), ED2/rooted/cwm
Got my answer in IRC. ODIN works for this problem
Ok, since EE4 came out, I needed to use these last night. Found that ED2 update package needs fixed, but I got the file I needed to fix it (stock ED2 kernel) and I'll do that as soon as I get a chance. ED2 is also rooted, but ED1 is completely stock, and there is now a stock EE4 package. Look for deodexed versions coming soon as well.
Yeah guys like the topic says how can i root this update?? Or is there a chance i can go back to froyo without being rooted?
Find a guide to flash clockworkmod recovery using NVFlash. Download a froyo rom and flash/restore it.

No, you cannot flash another ROM without being rooted. If you ran LG's updater than CWM has been replaced with the stock recovery.
Root again using NVFlash: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...hlight=nvflash
Once you're rooted, the rooted version of 2.3.3 that can be flashed in CWM can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1179748
Things seem to have changed a bit. With the new update. Before we were able to take an ota update, even rooted on a custom rom. As long as we had stock recovery, and all bloatware intact. While this is still true to a certin extent. There has been a slight change. You can apparantly not take the ota, if you are on the kk1 baseband. So if you would like to take the ota you have a few options.
First if you are on kj2 baseband. Flash any 2.3.5 rom( just to be safe ) . With the bloat intact and odin the stock rocovery. Found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19760508 ( or restore a nandroid backup of a bloat intact 2.3.5 rom then odin the stock recovery).
if you are on kk1 baseband. Flash any 2.3.5 rom with bloat intact. Then flash the kj2 baseband
Found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1384865
Then flash stock recovery. From the link above.
Just using odin to flash the stock tar. Will not change your baseband. So basically for some reason. Those with kk1 baseband cant take the ota. BOTTOM LINE IS , YOU NEED TO BE ON KJ2 BASEBAND. WITH ALL BLOATWARE , STOCK RECOVERY, AND CIQ.

Silver03wrx... do you know if we have a stock 2.3.5 KJ2 rooted zip like your stock 2.3.6 rooted zip? I already flashed stock 3e recovery and the KJ2 radio... but the new OTA didn't work as I still have the stock 2.3.6 zip installed. Thx

The update was pulled. Probably due to issues installing on phones which already had UCKK1 / 2.3.6. I noticed this just as I got done reverting mine back to 2.3.5... lol. damn the luck!

hopefully they will recirculate the update. i have tried every way possible to flash/update this thing with no success.
Yes someone did. Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=1509978
Cdshepard has the rom and modem uploaded
I downloaded the update from the system update button in settings. And it downloaded the update but I didn't install it yet. Is it okay to install it even though I am rooted? I just don't want to brick my phone

As far as I know, you have to unroot to install the update.
There are also a couple other threads on this exact issue, in which myself and others have already explained how to accomplish this.
The key to successfully take/install ATT OTA updates is to be on stock rom (all bloatware intact and unfrozen), stock kernel, stock modem, and most importantly... stock recovery (3e). For me, didnt matter if I was rooted.

Hi.
I rooted my Note 8010 using Zedomax' method. All has been fine. My note has now downaloded the JB OTA update, but it fails to install.
I assume I need to restore 'stock' recovery to install the OTA update? But where can I get this from.
Also will installing the OTA remove root? And will Zedomax' method still work to re-root after applying the update.
Regards
Installing the OTA should not remove root but if it does just use the exynos abuse patch app to root that is the simplest and safest method.
Thanks Samir_a
Do I actually need to restore stock recovery? If so, where can I get that?

Cf root method restores stock recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33298782 and yes to do ota udate you need stock recovery

Ok I ran the CF auto root to restore stock recovery.
But now I have downloaded the ota update 3 times, and on clicking install it fails immediately.
Previously it rebooted into CWM recovery.
Any ideas what's wrong now? I'm guessing I can download a full update and flash it another away, but I assume that will erase all settings.
Try to flash via odin or if u r rooted use mobile odin . Im now on jb 4.1.2 i flashed my note via mobile odin in 5 min
Thanks mexman_2010.
However if I use odin that will trash my settings won't it?
Is there no way of getting the ota update to work?
You dont need to retore stock recovery or fiddle with odin. Just use kies on your computer and it installs the update for you. All your data should still be intact after the process but it is recommended to backup first
Keep in mind that updating using kies removes root
The ota's are using the patch method;
effectively what they do is work out the difference between the new binaries and old binaries and just send a patch that changes the old into the new.. this is done to keep the ota as small as possible I presume.
so if the binary isn't identical to what was shipped with the rom its trying to update then it will have to fail, otherwise you'd end up with an almighty great mess of non booting or corrupted devices.
if they used the file method (complete apks etc like an cwm style zip) then it shouldn't matter, but as it is, the only way to ensure a patch will work is to make sure the files are identical to what the patch was generated against, root allows you to change system files, so root is the primary way of checking if the system has been altered.
ergo if you want otas then you're most likely going to have to run them from a stock rom.
Thanks for all the info guys.
Bizarrely though, having left the Note overnight. It downloaded the OTA update itself and this time when I clicked install it worked perfectly, so
all is well again.
Thanks for the help everyone.
Please every one. I need help with my n8000. Currently i am on stock ics rooted with zedomax cwm installed. Is it safe for me to install OTA update or can i just switch back to my stock recovery by flashing it through odin? I have downloaded the stock recovery so im waiting for your replies

Why don't you just install the latest version from sammobile with Odin or Mobile Odin instead of using the complicate way?

Yes you can do that, install stock recovery using ODIN, you will need to use triangleaway to reset your binary count though.
Also make sure the stock recovery is for your devic
