Looking for a good, recent bootanimation.zip tutorial - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Been trying to make my own and I keep getting a black screen only. I'm not sure if it's the png files I'm winding up with, or my desc.txt but it's not really working for me. I know that my kernel supports bootanimation.zip, I've tested this with the angry android one, so it's not that there's no support.
HELP! Thanks in advance.

Can u tell me which kernel are u using mine doesnt work with boot animation

I'm using Bali 2.1 UV. It's had bootanimation support since its first release for the SGS though. I doubt you'd get that working with any stock kernel

Search this very forum for a thread started by bl4ckphenix about boot animations.
It's one of the older threads, back in the kb5 days, when all we had was krylon's kernel for it.

Boot Animation Help.

So i have a rooted Samsung Continuum, And i want to change my boot screen and since i dont have a recovery option right now i cant flash anything.
So i have to place the boot animation zip on the phone, Well heres the problem i cant find where im suppose to place the file?? Any help would be great.
Yeah, i tried doing the same...
But i learned the hard way that you need to have a kernel installed on your phone that supports changing the bootscreen.. Which continuum users do not have yet.. What we need is Clockwork, which there is development going on to get it So, soon
Ahh ok
Looking around i did find bootsamsung.qmg
and bootsamsungloop.qmg
No idea what those are lol.
Its coming tomorrow a pre-rooted, init.d supporting, custom boot animation packin' 2.1update1 kernel with ext4 AND rfs support. (;

NERDGASM!!!! XD Could you please not tease us!!!!!!!??????? lol that is AWESOME!
Just looking at the /system dump files, they are .qmg files. Which I know nothing about, I was also hoping it was just a .zip file in the system media folder. I guess if you find a way to read the .qmg file, and create a new one once you dissect the old one.

Well not many people have this phone so there isnt much right now, There is a dev getting one of these phones so hopefully in a couple weeks maybe longer we should have some cool stuff.
Just a matter of waiting.

Well, the Continuum has been very odd about that... Most phones that are going to get pretty big communities, get them pretty quickly. It really is just a matter of being patient and not having devs rush things.

What version are you running?
Fully stock?
Kd1?
Kc1?
If your running kd1 your going to have to look in sgs4g/development thread, well same for kc1
If your running any other version than I'm sure you will have to reflash your phone with the boot animation kernel(make sure it's for sgs4g not any other phone model)

I have stock KB5 and I have flashed the bootanimation kernal. I have not flashed anything else. Everything is great except no sounds on the boot up screen.

Try using sgs tools from the market it helps put your boot up and shut down sounds in the right folders just make sure you have the sounds in your root folder in your sd card
A lot of people have tried just pushing the sound files in their respected folders and just doing it over and over til it works.
But for kb5 boot up sound should be in system/etc(should be in .wav format)
For shut down sound it should be in system/media/ui (should be in .ogg format)
Oh for kb5 you can go to the development section and there is a thread for boot animation file called modd5 or something, that could help you
Hope that helps

I use SGS Tools also, you have to apply it twice till it reboots your device. I used it on KB5 before and now use it on KC1. I cannot confirm it on KD1 because im still on KC1.
note: GdofWr420 you have to use the above formats for it to work. Convert MP3 to .ogg and .wav using appropriate program.
Thanks fknfocused for the info. I went ahead and flashed the deodexed KD1 and im in the process of trying again. now no bootanimation at all just on shutdown cause all I had to do was swap .png files. Ill let yall know.

Kd1 is not going to let you boot up animation the files are different, well as I understand it.also the boot up sound is in a different format too, we will have to figure out how to change that.
So far I have no luck.
Kb5,kc1 is good to modbut kd1i have no luck

I recall krylon360 saying new .zips. need too be in edify format or something to that affect. I just get the black screen bootup now not a big deal. I am however going to see about edifying script maybe we just have to alter old bootanimation.zip slightly.

I can confirm that SGS tools will work for the bootup sounds on KD1. Haven't checked the shutdown sounds yet.

Okay so I see what is has happened with the 4g/update and its nothing you all don't know.
1st off even if you do white's kd1 deodexed the boot up audio has changed/dissappeared to a .sng or something file but if you add a powron.wav file to system/etc. It will boot up with that audio
2nd shut down animation is still the same just push the .png files to the system/media/video folder and your golden
3rd building a mod might take some time for. Zip files to work but for now only .qmg files will work for boot up animation

You pretty much have to convert the files in the .Zip but also have to mod the kernal to read the .zip
If you just convert the .zip then you wont need the .zip anymore, basically the files in the zip will be combined into a .qmg
Which I don't know how to do =P

[DEV Questions] Modify/remove splash screens

Hi all,
Today I have had a bit of a nightmare with changing the splash screen(s). I'm trying to create a totally generic version of this firmware, which removes all of the T-Mobile branding; including those annoying 'Exclusive to T-Mobile' splash screens. I say screens, as it seems there are two of them, one loaded immediately and the other loaded from the kernel immediately afterwards.
I understand that the first one to load (bios as such) is located in /mnt/.lfs/logo.jpg. I cannot alter or edit that directory without a modified param.lfs, I am told.
I recently tried the param.lfs from the Vibrant build, and it flashed successfully, but still wouldn't allow me to write over the logo (operation not permitted). Can this image be changed directly in param.lfs? I have extracted the images from param.lfs, but cannot find a way to rebuild it. Also... replacing the param.lfs with one from a stock vibrant doesn't appear to change the splash screen. Wtf?
Also, even if I do overwrite the image, will the SBL push another one over the top? I'm getting mixed opinions on this...
The second image is located in the kernel source, I understand. I'm aware of how to compile a kernel so that isn't the issue.
Does anyone know the name of the image to locate in the source?
EDIT - think I found it in: ../drivers/video/samsung/logo_rgb24_wvga_portrait.h
My brain isn't working correctly today, and I have wasted a lot of time on this already. If someone out there knows the answer it'd save me a lot more time!
Thanks in advance.

Yupe..that would be the file and there's an app to build that for you. All you need is creating 480x800 24bit RGB image and save it as C header, then use that app to rebuild logo_rgb24_wvga_portrait.h for you.

[Q] Boot Animation

Okay, so I have been able to get a bootanimation.zip that i want. I placed it in /data/local... I reboot and it still shows the old swirling Samsung logo...But it does play my custom boot sound (awesome)... I haven't really seen any SGS4G specific threads...and the ones to other phones kind of run me in circles. Not looking for a hand out, just a heading...any idea? Something im PROBABLY missing...
Oh and i gave the bootanimation.zip god privileges...not sure if it matters
Running on 2.3.5 KI3 from Octiane V2.0 (awesome ROM BTW)
at the moment our gingerbread kernels do not support custom boot animations. I'm sure once we have a source to work with, will have full support.

OK first try with this app. I rooted my girls stock gingerbread droidx (if u need help rooting it stock gb droid x u can email me.)then u can download root toolbox and they have a section for boot animation, select one u like and install it. with this app u can even change splash screen and battery icon but for icon u will need pro version. u can just go to ipmart and download it for gree. anyways..... if this does not work u will have to do it manually which may seem scary but its quite simple. first get the bootanimation.zip u want and rename it(if u r with verizon) VZW_bootanimation.zip then download super explorer and then go to ur phones internal system /custom/reasourses and first want to go to that location and copy past the original bootanimation of phone and save to soundcard incase u want to change back to it in system/customize/reasourses and delete ,it will be names VZW_bootanimation.zip. now the custom animation can be added. go copy the custom animation go back to system/customize/reasourses and paste new animation a boom it will work I promise. note if for some reason when u restart phone and no animation is there dont worry nothing is broken the animation isn't allay compatible so just find another on and follow all the steps again minus saving the boot u had added u can just delete it.. now what I desperetly need help with is adding custom sound. I have tried many different thing with no results but negative. ive tried deleting the old sound file and renamwd new sound as old one and placed in system/customize/reasourses no sound , I even went into system/customize/cd/default.xml and changes the writing that tells the system when to play music to autostart="part0" /> no go ,="part1" /> no go. neither worked. I even unzipped the bootanimation.zip and renamed the folder VZW and changed back autostart="VZW" ect which was the original setting and no go. ive tried renaming file and placing it in system/media and pasteing no go, ive tried copying file and pasteing it in system/meadia/notification like some direction have said and no go. im at a lose of what to do. I have a thunderbolt running stock gb and want to customize the sound for bootanimation so if anyone can help please email me [email protected]. thanku and I await ur response

Considering this is for the Samsung galaxy s 4g, you technically are in the wrong forum. Our phones use a qmg file for animations as far.as I know, so bootanimations.zip will not work, I've already tried the method you posted, without success.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
there's a few custom ones in the theme section. You just have to push all the files manually.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk
then its quite simple just rename ur new bootanimation exactally as ur old one a boom there u go. its not that difficult and if that doesnt work try something simple and download romtoolbox and install if from therr. if it works on the droid x it should that one
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
also u probably not only have to name it correctly u may have to try androidzip and change it to that kind of file type if not that do so on ur computer. were Theres a will Theres a way. also make sure ur permissions r correct

I will try that. If the qmg file is truly a zip file with its own custom file extension, then it should work, if its not, then it will display nothing. I'll back up just in case, but I was told by a developer on this phone (I believe raver), that it wasn't supported by the kernel.

Make sure you name it exactly PowerOn.wav, matching the upper case P and O is necessary to make it work.
