After all this time...owned an Inspire for about 4 or 5 months now...I am still mightily impressed with my unrooted and completely stock Inspire. I was switching up between a few alternative launchers but after playing with a Sensation I decided to clean my Inspire up and return it to pure Sense goodness. I'm going to go on record and say the Desire HD/Inspire 4G is the best phone HTC ever made and the best phone currently available till the Sensation came out.
The previous best HTC phone, the HD2, held the "best" title for a long time but is now in second place to the Inspire. Anyone wise enough to buy an Inspire should feel highly proud of themselves and thankful to have such a wonderful device.
Yeah, I'm still very happy with my Inspire... granted I keep a second battery on me at all times but it's usually charging when in the car so I rarely need to swap it out. Got mine on Valentine's Day.
The only other phone I'm interested in is the Infuse because of the awesome screen but I love the HTC aluminum body.
I'm usually one to be looking for the next best phone as I generally upgrade two or three times a year. That said nothing is catching my eye and its mostly because my inspire has been rock solid.
The Inspire will really be put to the test tomorrow when I use it's GPS capabilities for a road trip I'm taking (With a car charger of course).

Just know that it'll likely get very warm, possibly hot to the touch when using GPS while being on the charger.
Tx
Should I just use the GPS without the car charger to not damage anything Tx?
Use the charger when needed but not all the time. I made a 250 mile trip this past weekend w/out issue, GPS wise. Just don't leave it on the charger the whole time.
Ditto. The Inspire is ROCK solid.
The GPS, at least on mine, often takes a while to achieve a lock. Sometimes, it'll pick right up, sometimes, I'll get halfway to whereever I'm going before it picks up.
Same.still impressed. Loving touching this inspire. I was gonna select iPhone 4 but decided I wanted a phone that not too many people has around my area. feels like I'm the only one with inspire around in mmy school and friends. I feel cool!

I also use the GPS function...through Google Maps and Nav...and find it flawless on this Inspire. I don't have any issue at all charging and using the nav. It may get a bit warm...to some, hot...but I've never encountered any issues on any other HTC phone I've used it that way.
currently to me the inspire can't be beat when you combine dev support, speed, display, camera, hackability, and assortment of rom's, the only thing thats not good is the battery but i have 4 so not a problem for me

I agree with everything you posted. If and when you decide to root, it's like getting a whole new phone. The dev support here is amazing.

I've had my Inspire for about the same amount of time, and I absolutely love it the more and more I use it. Certainly helps to have all of this dev work to help keep the new feeling.

I'm currently eligible for an upgrade and I'm currently sporting a Samsung Captivate. I'm still very interested in this phone because 2 people at work have it and they love it. The only thing is, is that I do miss my iPhone 3gs. I had an iPhone 4, but couldn't get a signal in my house with it to save my life, and the screen wouldn't turn off when I held it to my face while on a call. The Captivate has been an ok phone (it only took 3 replacements to get a stable one) but I'm still not totally sold on Android. I'm thinking I'm going to wait till September to see what Apple releases. But, if it's not impressive I'm going to go with an Inspire.

Wise plans. I have an iPhone 4 and can say that if it wasn't for my others phones, especially my beloved Inspire, I wouldn't be able to deal with the boredom of the iPhone. It is the best phone in the world for reliability and especially music playing, but it does need some serious refreshing and features.
I can also confirm, since I do own an Android phone, that the Inspire's version of Android is much better than iOS for features and smoothness. It so far has been just as reliable. But with all of the plethora of available customizations even for unrooted circumstances, combined with it's quality and smoothness, you would dearly love the Inspire.

My thoughts exactly on the Inspire and Infuse (I'm still glad I didn't wait to get the Infuse, though, because that would have been several months longer, and I'm not a patient person ).
As far as multiple batteries, I've never been in a situation where I needed one. This past weekend, I went on a float trip in an extremely rural area in the mountains of northern Arkansas, and despite me playing Final Fantasy III (VI) on the phone for a couple of hours beforehand, using the GPS navigation to find the float service's office (on a 2.5 hour trip), and the phone searching for a network all day, I came back after 7.5 hours, and the battery still had 20+ percent left. I also have a car charger, though, in the case that I need it.
I got my Inspire 4g March 3rd, and I don't regret buying it one bit.
Related
So I picked up my Inspire this morning. Here are my initial thoughts coming from a Captivate with a custom ROM (where everything, including GPS works perfectly).
Screen: better contrast and brighter colors on the Captivate. screen size doesn't make that much difference.
Weight: Inpire is HEAVY compared to the Captivate. And bulkier.
Speed: Inspire is faster. Loading maps and Earth for example
Apps and Widgets: in most cases, Inspire wins hands down. Email and contacts are so much better IMHO
Camera: Captivate takes better pictures and has anti-shake. Inspire has better post production enhancements which makes final picture better on the Inspire.
Video: Captivate wins hands down. Was a replacement for my regular camera. Inspire is choppy, especially if you are moving. HTC doesn't have thus right yet.
Video player / playback: interesting one this one. Stock video player app better on the Captivate (much). But using 3rd party, like Rockplayer, is much better on Inpsire. Still nothing as good as Core on my HD2, but that's another story! Should be better than it is on Inspire.
Typing: both are excellent. I typed this on the Inspire landscape and its been a while since I didn't feel fear at typing something so long on a screen.
Sound: Captivate wins hands down. Inspire is a major disappointment after the Captivate, for both in call and speakerphone. HTC still needs to fix this.
Data: no question Inspire is faster where I live (NY).
Boot speed: same. Slow.
Battery life: too early to say. I had a custom ROM which meant 3 batteries a s day on the Captivate.
Battery door: WHAT THE FU## WAS HTC THINKING? Inspire is a disaster. Feels like I will break it every time I open the door (and with that small battery its inevitable that I will need to do so). No way you could change that on the move. Madness.
Overall: Inspire is a better overall experience. Since the day I got the Captivate I have tried to make it have the look and feel of HTC Sense! But I will miss weight, screen brightness, camera, video and sound of Captivate.

Over all, I agree. The battery is not much of a concern to me ad I charge at my desk at work and have a car charger, though. Same goes for sound. I am either in my office or our datacenter. In my office, I can hear the vibration in my pocket of my jacket sitting on my coat rack. In the datacenter, I hear nothing but three hundred servers and large san arrays.
Those are really the only areas we differ.

@OP Thanks for putting this up. I'd like to hear from more people who jumped to Inspire from the Captivate!
On a side note... would you rather be inspired? Or captivated? Seriously, these phones are getting some epic naming schemes! Oh wait...
I want to add that this is the first time in a while that I feel satisfied with a device out of the box.
I don't feel i need to tinker with anything...
OK that parts not true really, is it! I HAVE to root it so I can sideload, remove bloatware and tether for free. etc. here we go again...

I'm thinking very seriously about calling AT&T and asking them to switch me to the Inspire. I've had 2 different captivates and this one has random shut downs and a crap GPS, just like my first one.
I'm Inspired!
Hi folks. After having 2 Captivates and both of them being buggy, I decided, hey I'm still within the 30 day return policy with Costco, why not? Plus I heard from many disgruntled folks about how Samsung is hard to deal with. So, I went and got the Inspire and its like night and day! The display, the calender, the email, not to mention the boot up times and speed are all above par compared to the Captivate...I'm very happy with it. Now to find a case!
I made the switch and am never looking back

Well I am coming back from one day on the dark side...
On a whim yesterday I went to AT&T store and picked up an Inspire. Tonight after work I will be taking it back.
The big deal breaker for me was that it doesn't support BT voice dialing, to my knowledge none of the HTC droid phones do??. The "enhancement" has been hanging out there for a year or better and it's not fixed. I tried the stock voice dialer, and ones from multiple other sources but it just wouldn't kick off the VD from any BT device.
You can root the Inspire (read downgrade ROM and root), but then have to install a diff ROM (the only one for now) since the root process breaks the sound and the source I'd bet will be a few months behind so you can't yet "play" with it like you can the captivate. Big thanks to attn1 though for the work he's done to progress it as far as it is, ON LAUNCH DAY.
All in all I agree with the OPs opinions and findings above and it's not a bad device. That being said I have been able to overcome most if not all of the issues with the captivate since there is SO MUCH development being done around it. I've had/have 3 of them. Sent one back for sleep death, have two now, one as daily driver and one as a dev phone and neither of them have any real issues.
A lot of people have had issues with the captivate I know but for me it's a decent device and is a lot more mature for someone that wants to have a toy as well as a phone, and the captivate just "feels" better to me. Not feels better in my hands... but the whole experience is just better for me.

I would say give devs a chance on this phone, it is still brand new. I remember the early days of Captivate development, there was a whole bunch of nuthin'.
As for BT voice dial, I have heard good things about Vlingo in car. Give it a shot, at least.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong I know things will progress with the device and it won't be long before there will be ROMS, Kernels etc. I just learned my lesson of not getting a device too soon.
I actually tried Vlingo and Choice Dialer... IMO they were horrible compared to the voice dialer on the captivate and they also didn't work with my BT in my truck. I have a BlueStar 2010 in my truck and it works great with the captivate to initiate calls from the OnStar buttons and use it purely via voice. I couldn't get it to work with the Inspire unless I physically touched the phone first, which is the point of my whole setup. I can simply get in the truck and make or receive calls without ever touching the phone. It's no reason whatsoever for anyone else to shy away from the phone, that's just a deal breaker for me.
Huge upgrade. Much better battery life + gps. And sense is so much better.

Gotcha, I know what that feeling is like. I went the the BB Bold 9700 from the 3GS. I hated it overall. Wound up going back to the iPhone.
Which is really sad for the BES administrator...
I just got back from the corp store with my Inspire!!!
Now to figure out the best way to sell my craptivate.....
I want to see some nice side by side photos of the Captivate vs. Inspire... Front, side view, back, etc etc
All you guys switching from the Captivate, how much are you paying? I talked with AT&T this morning and they said I would have to wait until April and then I could get the Inspire for 99 dollars plus a 75 dollar equipment fee.
I got the Inspire for my wife and I want it for myself ...... So if there is something I can do to get it faster, that would be great.
After seeing all these "I'm leaving" threads, I'd like to do a little experiment. It's quite obvious some of you bought the G2X thinking it would be the perfect phone, void of any major flaws.
I'd like to compile some data and find out what device the G2X replaced for you and also if you are bonified happy with the G2X.
For me, I came from the Nexus One (which I still have and that is now collecting dust), and I am very happy with my G2X. My particular device has difficulty maintaining UV while sleeping and also has some minor backlight bleed, but I am still very happy with my purchase.

I came from the nexus one as well and am happy. Only froze on me once, no reboots and you only see any screen bleed if in a dark room and a black screen. My only complaint is my data seems to lock up after using it a bit and I have to resort a minute or 2 before it works again.

I had that problem occasionally with my Nexus and also with the G2X now. I think it's more of a problem with tower load than anything else.
I also came from a Nexus One.
I love this phone. Mine is rock solid. Kinda feel bad for everyone who seem to be having so many problems with theirs. Although I can't help but wonder if the problems are actually that widespread or if its a very vocal minority.
I came from the HTC EVO and I am very happy with the G2X. The G2X, in my case, only have a slight light bleed at the very top corners, other that, everything else is bugs in the software that will eventually get straightened out.
The EVO...was definitely the worst phone I have ever owned based on physical quality control.

Believe it or not, but that's the first time I've ever heard someone say that... Did you try multiple devices and get all lemons, or just settle with your first one? I have several friends that have EVO's and love them... given they aren't what you'd call geeks though. Maybe the EVO really was too mainstream to be accepted by geeks like us.
On that note, maybe the G2X can also be placed in that category, albeit at a slightly higher level... in other words it takes the geekiest geek to enjoy the G2X despite it's flaws.

Came from the HD2 running CM7. I loved that phone...and now I love this one. I've only had two reboots...both times shortly after plugging it into my laptop (connection?). The only other complaint is the the scuffs and the small chip out of the glass from dropping it three times. Stupid me, I had no case or screen protector; and the concrete isn't kind. Anyway...I love it!
You know... I remember when I got my G2X and I tested the GPS on the stock froyo rom. It locked in seconds... I'm thinking the GPS problems will all be fixed with a new set of drivers.
WOOO! Thought I had a problem phone since I was not getting any data and after tmobile removed all data connection, and re-added, all is well again. This is coming from not getting ANY data the last day.
This phone is now the beastziLLa I thought it was. No issues here other than battery life which seems to be random on my end (pretty much no drain overnight, but does typically last the entire day for me).
Great phone! (coming from a rooted/modded HD2 which I still love and dont know what to do with it, anyone looking for an HD2?)
Peace!

Just realized we're from the same city! Wow...
I came from the G1 too. Ran everything since CM5 to Froyo By Laszlo. Too bad the dev's test phone blew up. He could have kept the development going. Right now I'm on my 2nd G2x, because my first one had a screen defect...and a dead pixel...and GPS issues...and random reboots...It pretty much sucked.
I desperately needed a replacement. But I wanted to give the G2x another try because I like the G2x overall. I'm not quite liking the Sensation yet, even with the features it has over the G2x. The date number for the broken one was 5-06-2011, and my new one is 5-14-2011. My replacement certainly works better, but I don't think I can flash ANY of Faux's kernels onto it. I haven't tried Trinity yet though.
Other than that, it works perfect. GPS works, Wi-fi, no reboots. So far 5 hrs off the charger and it's at 71%. It's a toss-up. You have a chance to get a good one or a bad one. But if you get a good one, it's a keeper.
I came from whats in my sig had that phone for 2 years and loved it Bought my g2x on launch day. Totally happy with the phone I did get one replacement 6 days in due to major screen bleed. New one has it in the extreme top corners but nothing I cant live with. I have had 3 reboots but the phone was full operational by the time I picked it up so again nothing I would complain about. I didn't have much hope for battery life as battery technology has long since been behind the curve in advancement. I average with features turned off and moderate use (look at news 2 or 3 times a day the occasional youtube video search for wire schematic, constant texts from the wife) about 11 hours. Now with all the features on GPS, wifi, and such and the same moderate use about 6 or 7 hours. but if I add in an hour long charge sometime around mid day everything is perfect. It's a bad ass phone, I am happy with my purchase and with the Dev support I see roaming in here I will probably sport the G2x for the next 2 years lol.

That is so cool! What a small world! Nice to have a neighbor on here
I came from a G2, loved that phone because of the easily removable battery door, hardware keyboard, and LED light. However, I am very satisfied with my G2x even though I miss those three features.
My previous phone was the Nexus One. I was EXTREMELY happy with that phone. Best phone I have ever had by far. Before that was the G1. That phone eventually got slow and sluggish and the Nexus One never did. It was smooth from day one up until the day I had it a week or so ago. I don't really regret selling it since I technically got something better, but i'm not sure how much more I like this phone right now.
It's great as far as the look of the phone. It's a fast phone. But the GPS not working is a huge turn off right now. I don't use it a real lot, but I use it a small amount at work when driving. The GPS was extremely slow and sluggish the few times I tried using it. It would sometimes take a little while for the GPS to start as well. Aside from the GPS, I haven't really had any other issues. It has restarted a few times that i've actually seen, but that isn't a huge deal to me. The battery life has been pretty good.
I gave up my G2 for this G2x and, I haven't had one problem with it.
I do miss my G2 but, my wife has one now if I want to go back to it.
all that i've seen on these threads are some of the issues with the sensation, i am one who really likes this phone. i guess every phone has its issues and a few bad apples, but this is by far the best i've tested so far. is there anyone else who likes this phone.

OP: I'm glad you like the sensation.
The majority of the new purchaser haters, are kind of 'weak newcomers to the Smartphone ' genre.
They have to appreciate that the majority of these phones have faults. None so bad as the secondary MT4G screen, and even then some, none so bad as the N1 touchscreen, with still patriotic N1 followers such as myself .
Edit: Pardon the noobs.
I love the phone too I switched from evo 3d sprints data is terrible. Yea I had with evo random spurts of 12mbps but majority of the time I got the weak 500kbps on sprints weak 3g. Yes I live in a 4g area but its so spotty. I go 1 mile and have 4g then don't have it then have it and don't have it. When it switches from 4g to 3g the phone lost data for 20 seconds. Not worth ot. With tmob I consistently get 7mbps down and 1.5 up. No loss of data and same buttery smooth ui. Yes buttery smooth without a live wallpaper I have no lag issue in sense 3.0. This phone is sexy and a monster of a phone.

First one I had had a defect battery, took me a little 8 hours to charge(and about 4 hours with 2 hours display to completely drain). The one I have now charged in 5 hours before the FOTA, and somewhat around 4 hours after the FOTA. I also noticed that the battery of my first phone tended to get extremely hot, while this one gets a little warmer at well, but not at the battery but more at the bottom.
Also noticed change in batterylife, first phone as mentioned couldn't make it through the day, this one managed 20 on first charge-cycle, and now around 25 hours with medium use. (2,5 hours displaytime)
It would be a great phone, if they fixed the known issues. Luckily I don't have the touch screen issue, but I have death grip and lag. Death grip is hardware, and can only be fixed by a new back cover.
i love my phone's guts! and my 2 bff's who touched it loved it instantly and are selling their Desire and Galaxy to get this
Thanks to all for the POSITIVE feedback on the phone and to the OP for starting this. Yeah I guess most of us prefer to point out problems. I've had this phone on the radar for months now (since first announced) and as I'm due for an upgrade at the end of the month, I have been getting very nervous with all of the death grip, dust under screen, unresponsive screen posts etc. Since I definitely don't want to go the alternative duo core plastic route, it is good to see some positive experiences.

you need to put what you read on the forums into perspective...though there are people from all over the world here, we are a very small cross-section of the market - the geeks, the ones who would see a teeny issue and freak the fck out because we want DA BEST!!!!11
so 50 people have a problem, i very much doubt htc gives a crap!

This was my experience with Sprint too, and the main reason I didn't go with the Evo 3D. Sprint signal at my house is one bar on a good day, and every Sprint phone I've ever had has had problems just *connecting* to data. I had a Touch Pro 2 before I got my HD2 & I had to toggle airplane mode practically every few hours just to get the damn data to connect. I have full signal & full 4G with T-Mo, no data problems, and my speed is about 6-8mbps on a BAD day(and I've gotten up to 14 at times!).
Yes, this phone has it's share of problems but what phone doesn't? People will ***** about a negative before they gush about a positive, don't think that the Sensation is a POS because some people don't like it(which, IMO, user error/inexperience with smartphones in general is a big cause of). I absolutely love it. Great battery life, great sound, great screen, great speed, FANTASTIC camera, etc. It's a winner in my book.

This is true. I doubt the average consumer is worried about having an AUO or a Sharp panel, haha.
I love this phone! I'm coming from the tp2. I have the creek problem with the bottom right of my screen but honestly it doesnt bother me. I love the keyboard that it comes with and coming from the wonderful hardware keyboard on the tp2 I was a little worried about going all touchscreen but I've had no problems with it! Truely an amazing phone!

Every problem I had with my prior Sensations is gone now except for Sense reloads but I never see that from LauncherPro. Battery life is craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy on this new one! I go all day without recharging now. I can't even believe it. Used it all day yesterday and still had 37% 20 hours later. Took it off the charger today. Didn't use it for 8 hours and still at 100% even while receiving texts and emails. 13 hours later and some usage photos, G+, etc and 86%. Both other phones would have been dead by now.
I have an AUO panel now and it's great. I prefer the Sharp I had originally because the viewing angles seemed better.
Camera is fantastic with sharpness and saturation turned down.
Only probs I have are with Sense 3. Biggest bother is built in apps2sd feature telling me I dont have space on my sd card if i try to move more than a few at the same time. I don't really care much though. I have 90 something apps installed and 870mb free.
Almost forgot - my speaker is either a different component than the others or something. Maybe the default hardware settings are modified. Sounds much better than on the units I had to return. Don't have to use Volume+ at all.
First time writing here... hi all!
I've been reading these forums for month at least...checking SGS2 and Sensation. With all those troublesome posts I decided to bite the bullet and get myself HTC Sensation. Been using it for 2 days now and everything is working absolutely perfect, smooth and fast! No dust under screen, working flawless while unlocking in every possible situation (on the desk, on the floor, while charging, in my hands), no death grip no matter how hard i try though i can fell some small glitches while typing an sms or a message (maybe it's my sweaty fingers...it's horribly hot here)...but that's about it.
I asked the guy who sold me a phone if people are returning phones with anomalies or bad stuff happening but he answered (like we can believe that ) that they didnt have any of those big issues mentioned here. Guess we are lucky in Croatia
Not sure if phones were manufactured much precisely in the last weeks but this is really a fresh looking phone. Although I must mention there was no WOOOOOW factor as when I bought Desire last year (Maybe cos it was my first Android ).
Nevertheless I'm enjoying the phone and so far I'm glad that I didn't take SGS2 (didn't really fit in my hand, although it's faster and I'm not into gaming).
That's about it...good luck with your phone, it's a nice piece of hardware!
I just thought it would be nice to get a bell sensation thread going so we can discuss things such as where it was purchased, screen type/quality, build quality/ and rom version + any lag (if any) experienced
This would be nice as bell sensations seem to be the minority in this forum, and I know there are a lot of Canadian HTC fans as well!
i bought one the other day locked to Bell , i unlocked it and been using it for 2 days on Fido , this is day 2 and i am hoping the battery life will get better over time cause day one after a full nights charging was terrible
using the dark theme and no animations so lets see the results later this evening
over all i really like the phone , i came over from the Atrix which was excellent , also i have a iPhone 4 for back and boredom
Good idea. Gonna grab one of these soon. Would like to know how much crap Bell pre-installed as well as how well it works on Rogers
G
I know someone mentioned that on rogers the sms time stamp error exists, can anyone confirm?
also someone mentioned that they did not get HDSPA+ on rogers
Im concerned about the dust issue under the screen. Any Bell Sensation owners experiencing the same?

I mentioned both those things
The time stamp can be fixed by downloading SMS Time Fix (or something like that) from the Android Market. And until we get root, there isn't much we can do.
HSPA+ I can't actually be sure of, when I popped in my Bell sim that's what appeared (and I quickly had to kill it since I don't have a data plan on Bell.) However with Rogers I didn't have the HSPA+ icon appear. I did manage to get 5mbps when I tested at McDonalds, but that's still just HSPA speeds.

Not yet.
All fine here.
Hello, I have the Bell Sensation since its release on July 5. I have no problem of hardware. I have the rom Bell with installed applications.
I would like to upgrade to version 1.35 I am now a version 1.34 but I have no updates..
Thank!
Virgin (Bell) Sensation here. I hope I dont get the bloody dust under display issue... I'm such a perfectionist with my devices lol.
I ordered a case on Amazon but for now my phone is caseless for about 2 weeks until I recieve it... Does it scratch easily?
I have a Bell Sensation, unlocked and on Rogers.
I'm in the GTA and get the [H] icon when I'm not on wifi. speedtest app shows 6-7 mbps down and 1.5-2mbps up.
I don't have any dust under the screen. The Bell apps are hardly noticable after removing them from the home screens.
I ordered a Ghost Armor for the Sensation online, it arrived today via Fedex. In my opinion, it's not as quality of a product as the ZAGG, but it makes sense for the price you're paying.
I get about 24 hours of battery life and I infrequently use voice. I mostly do emails (lots) and browsing.
Edit: My Sensation was without any case/etc for 5 days with no issues. It had light pocket travel with no other items in it. If you take care of it, you probably won't have an issue.
I just got my first Bell bill and got an unjust data fee of a whopping 8.17
Why do I care? Because I should have to pay it, as -I- did not use any data.
To start out, I got my phone from the Bell store, and the guy there activated it for me on a "used" phone (the background was changed and such) He popped in the SIM card, powered on the phone, and handed it to me. As soon as I got it I noticed the H icon and quickly put it in airplane mode. Guess it was not quick enough as HTC managed to pull weather data and such.
After I got home, I did a factory reset, and such.
Anyways, I am going to try to call Bell up tomorrow to get this charge waved, anyone ever experience this?
Thanks for all the feedback guys, keep it coming.
@Matt it's nice to see another GTA HTC fan around here haha. I too plan to use the Sensation on Rogers once I pick one up, so your feedback is much appreciated. In the past dealing with Rogers it was extremely hard to get these kind of fees waived, but maybe you'll have better luck as you did nothing wrong at all and shouldn't be at fault.
I'm currently an iPhone 4 User (bleh) as I wasn't satisfied with the build quality of other Android phones when the iPhone 4 first came out. I've been following the sensation since its announcement and have been extremely excited about it especially now that it's in Canada.
I'm currently debating on whether or not to get it outright from Bell and have somewhat more guaranteed warranty, or buying it off the grey market with more risks.
What's holding me back at the moment is all the problems that early adopters seem to have been having with things like different panels, lag and bad build quality.
Can anyone comment on the overall batch of bell phones? Plus I know this is nitpicking, but I'm also interested in knowing whether the majority of bell sensations have been AUO panels or sharp panels.
Can anyone tell us how to get the updates on our Bell Sensation ??? Because it is a version 1.34 and 1.35 there is the output.
I've had the Sensation now for a week on Telus. At first I thought that the phone sucked for internet use but turned out to be a Telus issue. All good now, phone last much longer than my Desire Hd, still for sale if anyone is intrested..unlocked.
Other than sense rebooting on my a couple time all is good. Usually happens when you load a new app. Also if you have moved apps to the storage card and reboot...the icon will not appear only the green android one. I found out that by selecting a different scene then going back to your will make those icons re appear.
Other than that I love the phone, nice and think and seems very classy.
I purchased my HTC Sensation from Best Buy on launch day. It was coincidentally my birthday so it had to be fate right? I was pleasantly surprised that they let me purchase the phone outright without having to sign up for service.
My experience with the phone has been great so far. I got it unlocked this past Monday from cellunlock.net for only $10 for use on Fido. The screen is really nice although the colours do seem overstaturated. No dust under the screen and I have not yet once had to clean my screen from fingerprints. I am using my old slip case from my HTC Desire which was using the OEM Nexus One neoprene case. I believe that the snug fit of the case cleans the screen every time I remove it to use it.
The minor issues I've been having have to do with the current build of Sense 3.0. I have noticed lag/stuttering while scrolling through the Friends Stream widget and LOTS of lag while scrolling through the photo gallery. Never had a problem on my HTC Desire with the photos as I simply moved over the micro SD card to the Sensation. Had the Sense launcher reboot on me a couple of times and a I have receive a few "low memory" warnings from Tasker despite having over 100MB of free RAM. Battery life isn't great, only getting about 12 hours before seeing the battery indicator turn orange. All of these thing could be solved (I believe) when the bootloader gets unlocked and the custom ROMs start to flow. I had similar issues with my HTC Desire before rooting and ROM'ing.

The photo gallery problem could be that the pics are from another phone's OS.
The memory notification can be set from settings/applications/notifications.
Mine's been solid as a rock with no trouble.
3.5 hour conversations are no trouble.
Because of some things I don't like about the Sensation; right now I am dual phoning, carrying my N1 and my Sensation at the same time. The other day I had my Nexus playing music in my car, mostly. And I was using my Sensation for everything else, texting, Facebook, etc... and I noticed that both were around 40% by the end of the day. Not an equal test, but a pretty average "end of the day" one.
Hello fellow bell sensationists
I got my sensation on the launch day at the china town location. Purchased it straight up since they wouldn't renew my contract till May 2012.
I was upgrading from HTC Diamond.
My first thoughts were that this phone is absolutely amazing. I loved everything about it. Sense 3 is very polished and the phone looks great too. The only reason i didn't buy GS2 is because it looks too much like iPhone and touch wiz isn't as nice.
What I DONT like about this phone is
1. Ringer volume could be better and louder.
2. Sometimes it lags when scrolling around
3. It randomly reboots about once a day
4. Battery could be better, but then again almost every smartphone has this problem.
Other than that I am getting lots of compliments even from Apple fan boys which is a pleasant surprise. I have also realized that a lot of iPhone owners dont have a clue about Android and smartphones in general. They just know that its cool to have an iPhone and everyone they know has one LOL!

Do you mind elaborating on what you don't like compared to your N1?
Got mine on launch day as well (July 5) from Tbooth and have been using it on Rogers since sim unlocked this past Monday.
First impressions: Very high build quality, reminiscing of my N1. Very much alike in hand as well. Fortunately I don't have the dust underneath the screen issue. No creaking on the bottom corners when pressed. Most of all, no lag on the sense UI / scrolling. A few things that did happen were random reboots, happened right when I got the phone as I walked out of the Tbooth store, and once again 5 days ago. I have yet to get another random reboot so far though *crosses fingers*. I usually have around 330MB of free ram on bootup with a few sense widgets running, and I usually do a cold boot of the phone every charge cycle.
I am very happy from switching to the Sensation from the Atrix. People thinking of buying this phone shouldn't get discouraged at all.
I've had the G2 for a year now, I'm not due for an upgrade with Tmo until this time next year but I've been thinking about getting a better, faster phone for a little while now. Since I'm not purchasing through tmo I decided to surf ebay for a good deal and I narrowed my choice down to the sensation as the best quality for the money and just scored one for $275. Seemed like a good deal since most of them tend to go for over $300, was it?
It hasn't been delivered yet, but I've got a few questions for you all:
1. I have 30 days to return it. What issues should I look for?
2. Seems many have issues with the lack of battery, what is a realistic expectation for hours of use?
3. I've been using a version of CM on my G2 (mexdroid, best G2 rom I've found yet) and was wondering if there are any specific "favorite" cm7 based rom's here? I've tried a couple different Sense roms and never really liked any of them.
Any other tips or pieces of vital information y'all can give me would be great. This was a tough choice for me as there seem to be a lot of people who have issues with the sensation, but I'm hoping they are the loud minority. Thanks all for the help ahead of time, hope to become a regular on here as I don't plan on getting another phone for at least another year.
Well if it's new you shouldn't root it otherwise you may not be able to return it
If not... check out the link in my sig. Root, unlock, custom ROM, overclock in 10 mins
Its used but the eBay vendor offers a 30 day return policy. I definitely plan on rooting it but like I said I'd like to try out a cyanogen based from. I will definitely give yours a try though thank you for the link.

that should be about it..
anyway for battery can consider anker
I was just reading about the newest update that started yesterday? It shouldn't make a difference that I bought this phone used and not through Tmobile, should it?
If you're into Cyanogenmod, you may want to look elsewhere. I love CM, I do, but the official CM rom is still in it's alpha stages, and while it runs "good", it doesn't feel like the 1.2Ghz dual core it's suppose to be. There's one or two CM-based roms. One is called HyperSensation, and it's really lightweight and fast, but again, it's based off an alpha.
There's still great development going on, and we're guaranteed ICS from either HTC or the devs (crossing fingers for CM9 nightlies), but if you're a CM faithful, this might not be your phone.
Edit: Also, you'll need either an Anker or Chichitec 1900 mAh battery, you'll have a hard time without it.
Got my Sensation XE 2 weeks ago and compared to my good old Hero I had before, I really like it. You'll definitely benefit from rooting it. Installing a custom ROM is worth it, but personally I would stick to Sense 3.0, runs better imo.

I have to agree with this poster and add these few things.
* (My experience) screen protectors don't fit snugly due to cured glass.
* A bit laggy
* My volume rocker fell off after 3monts and had to get the whole back replaced.
* Battery sucks, but if you (fork over more loot to) buy a higher capacity one it works fine.
My advice is to either get the Amaze or just wait until march/april when they will be rolling out an Ice Cream Sandwich phone for HTC. And to be fair, the phone is a "nice" phone, but it is not the best phone in its class spec wise.
Steve, while I appreciate the suggestion it's to late as I've already purc
hased the sensation. Honestly looking at the specs and in store the amaze didn't seem all that different. The only real improvement I saw is the camera button and that's not a very big deal to me. As for ics I thought sensation is on the list of phones getting it?
Mine has been good for me and the price at 275 is decent -if your into cm7 well as stated before its still alpha and it looks like they are more focus on CM9 at this time to bad your not a big fan of sense as there are many good builds running sense with great battery life-the phone is barely 6 months old here so there is much to come and yes it is on the list to get an OTA of the ICS
DUST under the screen and the power button issue are all I have faced I would check it before I do anything with a black background under sunlight to see if the are any specs in it
Mexdroid kicks ass for sure I have a friend running that on his nothing like that over here sad to say
For the money, that seems like a great deal. And you should get the OTA update as long as it's a valid ROM. I have flashed through about 6 different ROM's for the Sensation and settled on the InsertCoins one. Quick and easy, but still has Sense goodies I tend to like. Rooting it is EZ, and hardware should keep it viable for a while. You should enjoy this device!

there are very big differences, spec wise with the phones. the top three are:
1. the Amaze has 16 gig memory on board whereas the Sensation only comes with 8 gig card. If you listen to music and watch movies like me that is huge.
2. the Amaze has a full gig of RAM whereas the Sensation only has 768. The standard for most high end smartphones is 1 gig and it does make a difference speed wise.
3. Last, but definitely not least, since most complaints about phones have to do with battery life, the Amaze has almost 200 more mA than the Sensation.
You can scratch my original reasons, those were just the tip of the iceberg, these are the reasons why I would steer people away from the phone.
HOWEVER, you already got it so its water under the bridge, enjoy my friend. Just wanted to clarify.
With regards to ICS, yes, from my understanding the Sensation will get it in four to five months. However, by that time, HTC and other companies will already have phones that will be made with it. I have an upgrade due to me in march so I will hold out and wait to see what the offerings are come June. I am sure that the ICS upgrade will work fine on the sensation, but if the are getting rid of buttons and overhauling the whole thing then I want the full experience.
Vibrant to Sensation
Prior to my Sensation I had a Samsung Vibrant rooted with CM7. Once I arrived on the Sensation forum it was evident the Sense Roms were by far the most used.
I have been using Android Revolution HD 4.1.8 Sense 3.5 (the latest) and I have never looked back. I recommend that you at least try one of these great Roms from a fantastic developer.
Good luck in whatever you choose. You have purchased a very nice phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269428
This is a decent one to start with... Some problems with gps (it takes a while to lock) and it is actually no longer supported by the developer... However, i still use it often, and its pretty slick. I would at least check it out if I were you.
Well, I've had my sensation for a day now, so far so good. Even though it's used it has a perfect screen, believe me I examined it thoroughly and couldn't find anything wrong with it. How long does the "dust under screen" issue generally take?
Also, so far so good as far as power button goes but it is going to take some time to get used to not having a trackpad to wake the phone. The speaker is equivalent if not a little better than my G2's, and compared to my OC'd G2 (usually had it around 1.4) it's faster in stock form.
I haven't rooted it yet, I'm going to use it for a month before I do that. From what I've read it seems most of you generally OC it to around 1.5?
I have a case on the way, it is definitely skinnier than the G2 and my big clumsy hands have a little trouble holding on to it so the case will be a definite improvement. For those of you who have a case on, have you noticed any decline in signal strength or gps?
As for my update question earlier, I shouldn't have worried. Within 10 minutes of putting my sim card in and turning it on I received the update to 1.50 (the latest one, right?) and it successfully installed with no issues. I still need to read up on what that update brought with it, but was one of the things a newer radio?
Sense is growing on me, for the past week I've been using my G2 with a sense 2.1 rom, so I haven't ruled that out for a DD for my sensation. I'm going to try out several different ones but I'll probably start out with Revolution and maybe Hypernosense and go from there.
Appreciate all the help, you and the G2 people are pretty nice. Seems like some of the forums have some angry people in them, it'd be an interesting sociological study to see the personalities and ages of various people matched with various phones.
advice: return it
i don't mean to be a party pooper, but return it while you can. get the SG2. i have one HTC sensation and the screen doesn't work anymore.it just turns on and that's about it. the Volume, another chapter entirely. works when it feels like. i have tried the ground contact thing, no luck. its a horrible phone. basically wasted £275 on it.
it hasnt worked well for one single day. its one issue after another. After 4 months, basically a brick with bright light in front
While I appreciate the thought, I'm going to be keeping it until/unless I run into any issues. As far as getting the sg2 goes, if I'd wanted to spend another $150 I could get one but that's a lot of money, at least for me. I did only get 8 hours of use out of the sensation today with stock battery, but I bought an Anker 1900 so I'll see what improvement that gives me in the next few days.

I don't mind it dude, the phone works well for me, has no dust or other issues, AHD Rom, MX video player works, calls are nice n clear, backstab hd works and music sounds good on my bose mie2 headphones.
Battery can be better, but I have a dock and 2 extra Anker batts off ebay for 30quid.
Well, welcome to the Sensation.
Re: a couple of things from your last post
The dust under the screen thing doesn't have to happen if you buy a case that covers the volume rocker. I use a plain jane Incipio case and it's served me well. No dust under the screen and since it's a little stiff it buffers the power button a little... hence the double press issue just doesn't happen to me unless I take the case off. Plus it's made of this odd rubbery compound stuff, so it bounces off of the floor nicely.
A lot of people OC to 1.5. Or you could do the complete opposite, dump the laggy Sense launcher and just underclock instead. I run my Sensation at 972 MHz with DX Launcher as default and it's great. Helps a lot with battery life for daily use.
1.50 update does not contain a new radio AFAIK.
When you're ready, look into custom kernels and undervolt as far as your phone can handle. Your battery will love you for it.
