[Q] Not living up to the Dual-Core hype? - HTC Sensation

I just bought the sensation yesterday from T-Mobile. It seems to me after plenty of use that the battery gets drained good. Though, the speed doesn't. My friends HD2 with the similar sensation rom on it ran almost as smooth as this phone, while his was clocked single core 1ghz...even at a single core this phone should be faster right? Not only does HTC lock the bootloader, but do they also lock the dual-cores?
You decide...

While speed might not be as fast as it could be, I have to say that multitasking is flawless. I came from the Vibrant and the phone would freeze up doing normal activities (lock screen, phone calls, etc). I have yet to have the sensation freeze up on me. THAT is what I care about, not which app drawer loads fastest. Reliability is key.

Sounds like he was running a Sense 2.1 ROM with Sense 3.0 lockscreen - that's the only combination I could find on my HD2 that gave ANY kind of performance.
All of the Sense 3.0 ROMs ran so badly on my HD2 that I couldn't keep them on my phone more than a day.

Honestly I believe that the software we have right now is not optimized for dual core so until Ice cream Sandwich comes out. I really doubt dual cores are really gong to be make that much of a difference.

Most would agree that while Sense 3.0 is pretty to look at, it's a giant resource hog. And from what I understand, it's also poorly coded.
I think once we see an unlocked bootloader and custom ROMs, you'll see and feel the benefits of dual cores.
Also, battery life gets better after a few days. I've had mine for over a week now and it seems to get better every day.

God.. thank you for mentioning about the battery life... Yesterday (1st day) my phone was draining ~9%/hr, today it's more like 5-7%/hr. With the same settings, my HD2 could do 2%/hr... I was starting to get worried about the issue. Hopefully I will see the battery life extend as time goes on like you suggested.

MAN thats the truth what a slow device and its funny i walked into tmobile to try it before i said it was slow and the rep saw my g2x in my hand and said your G2x is going to be faster then that sensation that your going to touch hahaha FUNNY.The sensation spit out a 2050 on quadrant i guess is ok but my g2x stock on 2.2 spits out a 2500 to 2700 so think when 2.3 hits anywho the sensation looks good on paper but real world no

Wait for an ota. It will iron out the kinks. According to android central, the evolution 3d is faster. There is little reason for this beyond the 3d maybe having more optimized software since it came out later/ was delayed. I know he sensation has less memory, but in the android architecture that is not a big deal if you still have some ram free...unlike windows where the more the better. In android, if your not using all your memory and you got a decent amount free, your good to go.

One thing I have noticed reading all the Sensation reviews - the browser performance is quite poor, especially in sunspider. In fact it appears to be slower than my SGS which is a single 1ghz hummingbird processor. Is it just the Sense browser that is not optimised for dual core? does opera mobile give better performance?

Were you running a custom Rom on your SGS? Most custom roms have had major improvements to their javascript performance (which is what sunspider tests).

Multitasking is where this processor shines. Even on my G2X I would have to use the app called Fast Reboot to speed things up after a couple hours of use but I have had the Sensation on for 48 hours straight without using that app once and it's still lightning fast.
I think most people on here are expecting way to much from the dual core devices when most everything out there isn't even optimized for it. Sit back, relax and wait until we get optimization or go back to your HD2.

Not intending to hijack the thread, but I havent done anything special to condition the battery like I had to on my Evo. I can easily get through a day and a half with moderate use. It's almost always going to seem abysmal to start with simply because you can't put the damn thing down.

I just bought the sensation yesterday and played with it extensively and speed was fine, I'm sure time will tell if my opinions will change. Its charging now...but honestly folks, for those that complain about its speed, how fast does the phone need to be before people stop complaining about speed.
The question should really be does the phone perform fast enough so that the user does not experience lag on any of the apps, video/audio, texting, etc...functions they perform. If you are experiencing this then please explain what apps or programs you were running and what you are using as your basis for comparisons.
Its like buying the latest and greatest PC or Mac and then running dos programs...unless you are running really intensive A/V, memory or resource processes/programs, these benchmark scores really don't amount to much but a number for the average/typical user no matter how geeky or technical we think we are.

[Q] Time to Upgrade: Need Information on Various Phones, and respective problems

As it comes time to upgrade once again, I find myself confronted my many options. The phones I am looking at are the Infuse 4g, Inspire 4g, Atrix 4g, Focus and iPhone 4. I am very partial to the Android devices and was hoping to end up with one. I currently have an iPhone 3g but want to trade up due to performance and battery life issues.
I would greatly appreciate some discussion and information on these various devices and the problems and plus's of each. I like the Atrix due to its power, battery and potential if the bootloader is ever unlocked. The Inspire is interesting due to the wide amount of development but I have sever concerns about the power in comeing years, battery life, despite ROM's and the speaker. I like the Infuse's screen, power, and, due to unlocked bootloader, development potential.
I have had Samsung "dumb" phones in the past, the SMS flawed Impression and the sub-par Solstice, so i have some concerns about Samsung phones. I like HTC but dislike them putting tiny batteries in their high end phones. Motorola is generally OK but I understand support is a bit lacking. iPhone is super reliable but I believe the OS is stale and boring. Also, i worry about the 4's future with the advent of the iPhone 5 in the coming months and, like I said, I like Androids.
Lets get some discussion going!
This is posted in the General's of all 3 phones. Excluding the Focus.
Hi there! i have had my Inspire for 2 and a half months. The first thing I must say is, I am unsure of how battery life was on the Iphone, but battery on the Inspire could be better. As any smartphone, the screen consumes A LOT of power. Only twice, however, has my battery not lasted me through the day. On average, I consumed 5% battery per hour on moderate use (25-30 texts per hour, fiddling with a few widgets, looking at stocks, etc) when unrooted on the stock ROM. On heavy usage (screen on especially if playing games, etc), expect to consume at least twice that. I have later rooted and upgraded to the Inspired Ace ROM and done a few battery calibrations and my battery has seemed to sustain much better.
Battery aside, this phone ROCKS! First impressions may be lacking as the battery cover was very difficult to remove on mine, even left scratches where a screwdriver was needed to pry it. The case covers that up though. The phone seems to be very fast and powerful. I have never had any major problems with this phone. It is by far the best phone I have every had. The only problems I have had were when this phone was stock and unrooted. I have more apps than any one person needs (>100) and the built in Froyo application manager does not seem to handle this number well. You have to exit the Manage Applications app then go back to it to load them all sometimes. This problem was fixed with the installation of a Gingerbread ROM, however.
Root was painless with bubby's simple root. (I was almost disappointed at the small amount of user input required! )
The HTC Sense ui makes the phone very user friendly, as it includes many custom widgets for things like mail, stocks, news, and other things. The SRS Enhancement included with Sense ROMs makes music sound amazing.
I have included the high parts here. If there are any more questions you have, please ask. I will be happy to answer any questions you have, as I would HIGHLY recommend this device.
hey will! im thinking about getting a inspire, but a user at the store todl me the phone freezes alot. is that true for all inspires or probably happened to him because he bough a faulty or defected device?

thank you! and also, i saw the inspire in the store, and the picture and just the quality of the screen and colors was BEAUTIFUL, i thought it was the exact if not better than the iphones visual quality. But i saw somewehre that the iphones resolution is better? how!!!
It has to do with the inspire being superlcd whilest the iPhone has a retina display which in essence is a very high res lcd to the best of my understandings. Keep in mind, however that the inspire's screen is much larger. (take that, Mr. Jobs!) As for the freezes, the guy at the ATT store must be a fan of another phone he is trying to push (blackberry perhaps? Sure...) Or has a total lemon. Mine has never truly frozen. The app manager lagging due to so many apps in froyo and one time out of a thousand in a text message the keyboard would not type when unlocking the phone straight to messaging were the only "freezes" I found and like I said, hitting back and re entering solved instantly.

The iPhone is somewhat nice...But considering it is Apple I must hate it naturally, retina is wonderful, but side by side with an inspire I do not see much of a difference.
Also the 3.5 inch screen is such a huge turn off for me...having a nice 4.3 inch screen to type messages and play games on beats the iphone right there...
(I just noticed im going against the iPhone alot)...Lets attack the Focus! I also considered this phone, I enjoy windows and all, but a mobile OS that is still new to the game didnt interest me much...4 inch screen was okay, I found it a little too small for my taste and I know most of you are saying "whoah .3 inches! Huge deal!" it actually is a really big difference, have you ever compared an inspire side-by-side with a focus? Plus its Samsung, every samsung takes forever to charge, and they are not the highest of quality.
The atrix is a nice competitor, but yet not one at the same time. Cool it has a dual core, so what? My inspire blows it out of the water overclocked at 1900Ghz(of course not constantly running). I can run my inspire at 500Mhz and it is still extremely fast and it surprised me. Also as many know the locked bootloader on the Atrix is also a big turn-off, not custom kernels and plus no ability to remove motoblur? jeez just the fact it runs motoblur makes me cringe, and also the fact that it is made by motorola.
Now moving onto the infuse, finally. This is the best competitor to the Inspire, although I had a choice of getting it I purchased the Inspire, here is why. A 4.5 inch screen was just to large for my hand, I would rather be using an actual tablet than using a half phone half tablet. Also the fact that it is Samsung also scares me, not the best quality device. Touchwiz is not my thing either! Although once rooted that all can change, I still dont like how it is the native OS. If you are really banking on buying an Infuse, you should really just wait for the Galaxy S2 to come to the US, that phone will be a beast. If you read this whole post then kudos to you, I apologize ahead of time for all of the grammatical mistakes and comma splices, but you cant blame me, just got out of school, time for summer .
Yeah I have not used and Samsung Android phones, but my last phone (well last 3 due to warranty replacements) was a Samsung Jack. Between WinMo and Samsung, I'm definitely a lifetime customer of any of its competitors. Plus HTCs recent decision to stop locking bootloaders will be nice for future phones if you are going to mod. My last Samsung was more like samsuck. Just saying.

thank you both!! To me, HTC Sense is so well made that all the other operating systems? lol or whatever they are called in my opinion are just a more flexible edition of the IOS. I mean really, i look at the atrix, its widgets are boxes liek the iphone, it scrolls liek the iphone, and i find, well, i dont know if its the infuse or the atrix but the screen of one of them, may be both, is liek darkened? Its display isnt bright but its almost liek a gloomy type of brightness that the phone has. Im surprised no one else has commented or complained about it. But yea, i really want the Inspire, but ppl keep saying wait for a dual processor, but im only goign to get a dual processor phone that has HTC Sense the best in the business!
Not sure about the infuse, but I am pretty sure they do make sense based ROMs for non HTC devices. I know I have seen them for the galaxy s. So if you can get a non HTC dual core and want it to have sense, I'm sure you can find a ROM out there. However, from what I have read the second gen snapdragon (aka scorpion, according to HTC's specs) processor can hang with them fairly well especially with o/c kernels.

I would like to add, that the Infuse has 428 of RAM and the Inspire has 768, very noticeable difference. Yes, gsII is going to be a beast, but I still don't wanna touch a Samsung. After having one of their dumbphones for a year and a half before getting this phone at the end of Feb, and reading their mishaps with the last year concerning the gs line and the fact I can't stand douchefizz, I will no longer consider Crapsung. I'd rather wait longer to give up my Inspire. The only phone I will give my Inspire up for right now is the rumored HTC Holiday. This is my first smartphone, and I am very happy! Liked em since I first saw the Evo and Incredible last year. Now, since owning this phone, I am HTC 4 Life!

I am SO glad to see this. I had been jonesing an Infuse, but couldn't find a RAM spec. Jones now over. All I need is an overclockable kernel for Inspired Ace and even the 1200 MHz of the Infuse won't give me any envy.
I am very happy with the MDJ's v19 kernel on inspired ace. Overclock up to 1.6 GHz supported. I know some kernels will go up to 1.8 but I find this kernel good for battery life. I have leedroid on my sd card to try, but never have as I am happy with MDJ.

Quick threadjack, been looking for an overclock kernel for IA!
The only d/l link I'm finding is for MDJ v22... any chance you can link me to v19?
I suppose I should keep up with the changing kernels a bit better! V22 is just the latest update. it should be as good or better that v19. Allows higher oc speed best I could tell by the changelog. I suppose I should update my kernel as well! Remeber to change the governor to smarta** for better battery life without the need to set screen off profiles with the ondemand governor. That is what I have read and seems to work, anyway.

I'm already running sense 3.0 on this device.hmmm, yeah maybe the sgs2 will do.
Only issue is that there might not be a SGS2 for T-mo. The names have been revealed for all carriers, but there's no sign of one for us. The G2X is better than the MT4G in it's specs, but wait 7 days and get the sensation. bigger screen, better processor, and HTC build quality. Also, it doesn't look like it will be super expensive. Walmart will have it for 150 on contract.

Only the processor is better. It has a lot less RAM (512 vs the MT4G's 768). I would never want to run a ROM like Virtuous Fusion on the G2x with such little RAM.
I'm just saying I have used a g2x and its very snappy.

I went from MT4G to G2X. It is faster - even without an android ROM that optimizes duel core (true for all of them), which was to be 2.4 - but that has been pushed way back.
The Sensation is supposed to have the boot loader locked - so forget flashing anything. There is chatter about HTC coming out with an unlocking mechanism - but I would not buy that device based on maybe it will get unlocked.
Some have gotten quadrent scores of 5000+ with CM7 and faux kernel (Max OC "only" 1500 currently). It has a better camera then the sense camera on MT4G, but I never liked the sense one - it had too much compression, so used camera app form the market on my MT4G.
HTC confirmed that they were working on an update for the sensation to unlock its bootloader. I would not worry about it.

I went from the G2x to the MT4G (gave up on the G2x because of backlight bleeding). I honestly didn't feel much of a difference. Virtuous Fusion on my MT4G runs fast enough for anything and with Chainfire3D, I can play all the Tegra 2 games and do everything fast as I need. I was originally planning on getting the Sensation. I still might, but I'm considering waiting til the Tegra 3 and comparable phones come out.
I would wait till next year when they start making Quad-core phones, which is in Qualcomm's roadmap, and probably others too. The G2X will be outdone by the SGSII(Fastest Phone now, blows G2X ) . The Sensation is slower than the SGSII, but is still a good phone nonetheless. Not really worth the upgrade from the MT4G. If you care about things like ram, companies are starting to use 1GB ram and hopefully they increase ROM size for more internal storage.

Agreed. For me this phone will totally be enough for the next year and a half thanks to the awesome work of the dev community. Rooting and flashing a custom ROM has given my phone new life, so personally I can now confidently wait to get my next "uber" phone when my contract expires.
it seems that the g2x has alot of problems compared to mytouch 4g. the one i was able to use kept shutting off and on!
i would wait for something worthwhile!
One of my coworkers has this phone. I messed around with it for a while and it seems to be pretty nice, but not quite enough of an upgrade for me to ditch this phone for.

Almost every phone on XDA started out with a locked bootloader. You make no sense with your comment about a locked bootloader. My MyTouch came locked but look at how fast that was bypassed.
BTW: HTC has already stated publicly that an OTA update will unlock it in the near future.
Im with the others, not worth an upgrade. just wait until the quads come out
I love the MT4G. I still have my Nexus One but with 768MB RAM, I can find NO reason to upgrade at this point. And to compound that decision, all the recent reviews have said that the screen is lackluster at best. Sure the higher resolution is nice but if you don't couple that with a great screen it does NO good at all.
And that great device (Sensation) still comes with the same RAM as the MT4G. Sorry, but at a time when tech prices are what they are, packing 1GB+ into a smartphone should be the baseline standard. If I upgraded to anything right now it would be the SGS2 but I intend to wait for quad cores to pop up. My desktop and laptop both have quad cores so my phone should too.
The MT4G with CM7 runs fantastic.
I have a g2x right now, my wife has a mytouch4g. The g2x is quicker, and has more potential. I can say though, it isn't significantly quicker for having a dual core processor and vanilla android, and it definitely does have more software issues.
I (just like others) thought the issues complained about were exaggerated and I was lucky enough to get a g2x without issues. The screen bleeding isn't horrible, but I have had the random reboots (usually daily). Battery life is poor at best, there isn't any lagging but it does stumble and freeze for a second occasionally. Great at multitasking and gaming though.
My wife is pretty picky about her phones and complains if there are any issues... I haven't heard her complain about the mytouch except low earpiece volume.

Would you happen to know why CM7 runs so poorly on the G2x?
And I agree. CM7 on a MT4G makes it feel like it was never meant to be a Sense phone. So smooth....

HTC Sensation or the Tmobile G2X?

I'm stumbled between these 2 device on T-Mobile.
Even though the Sensation has 768 MB ram, and the G2X has 512mb ram, from all the videos I seen on youtube, the G2X seems a lot faster than the Sensation.
From gaming point of view, which will get more support? the Geforce ULP or the Adreno?
There is already a good thread comparing the two phones.

An app called Tegra zone made by Nvidia list games designed for the Tegra 2 devices.
I think there are current about 10 games on the list. I have some games on the Xoom, and the visual quality is excellent. Not sure how much improvement you will see on a smaller screen.

I wonder if a stock HTC Sensation will run faster than a G2X.
To test it, we will need to root our phone and use app like SystemApp Remover to disable Sense, install ADW luncher on both devices and try it out.

If you want just call HTC ,cry and tell them that Sense sucks.

The fair is two units out of the box.

I had the g2x for two weeks and that thing was noticeably faster than the sensation running sense or adw without root/vanilla android. But the battery life was terrible on the g2x and I prefer the screen, form factor, and camera on the sensation.
I am actually surprised how nice sense is compared to the last time I used it. Big fan if they can get some of the slowness out of it.
Either way both phones are sweet.
I owned the G2X before the Sensation and was disappointed. The battery life was terrible and I had problems syncing it with my car's BT. I think the fact that T-Mobile is still "out of stock" of the G2X on their website speaks volumes about the phone. It has issues.
I have no complaints about the Sensation.
I'll let you know tomorrow when my Sensation arrives. The G2x is a very fast phone, it's just chalk full of odd bugs that in the end, were driving me nuts. I'll put them head to head and see which one I like the most.
I own both, and because of the data issues I'd say the g2x. The Sensation has a better feel and look imo. Audio is better on the g2x.
I think once the bootloader is unlocked on the sensation, it'll be a beast.

I also own both and the sensation wins with me hands down. I hate the g2x a total waste of my money so far I have no complaints with my sensation I am using adw so I don't have to fool around with sense but I do miss the contacts/dialer app of vanilla android
I had the g2x and sent it back. Non of the Rome are particularly special. The screen is really nice, but the phone has bugs. I prefer the button layout on sensation, though its not stellar sensation at least has a notification led, and g2x GPS doesn't work. Like, at all.

G2x was way faster. fastest android phone i've ever used. I didn't even think android was capable of being that speedy.
like someone else said, with the g2x i had to manually connect the bluetooth everytime i turned on the car.
Sensation connects immediately and hasn't given me any bluetooth hiccups. Only phone i've owned i can say that about.
I love sense, but i hate the overall slowness of the phone. Might be sense, or screen, or whatever, but g2x was blazing for me. sensation..... usable. not fast, and the lag isn't terrible but enough to notice.
The feel/form factor of the sensation is awesome. Feels like a true successor to the Nexus One. Unlike the Nexus S.
Hopefully once the sensation is rooted someone will make a ROM that makes it speedy while retaining Sense.
I dunno about this battery life thing though. Unplugged it (sensation) around 1230. It's 955 and power saver came on. I keep the screen brightness all the way down, all radios on except gps, gmail on push, yahoo/fb/twitter on refresh every 2 hours (update on screen unlock too).
The last Nexus one i had (ironically with the sense 3.0 rom), i unplugged it on a friday evening, monday morning it was around 30%. same radio/app setup as the sensation.
Oh, and for some reason the sense keyboard works much better than swype.
I was willing to trust LG with buying a phone (I use it for business also), and that was my biggest mistake.
The phone looks like someone just threw together a phone, without spending much time on testing. It has SO MANY issues that come right out of stock, that is unforgivable.
Ive had plenty of phones, and the only phone that was worst than the LG was the G1 - only because it was the first phone with android.
I just got the HTC and I must say im impressed with it, so far it seems really stable. Plus it feels better, it looks better and it acts better.
Forget about the LG, nobody should get that phone, because LG might think that their phone was a success, and they might make another one.
You are better off getting the MyTouch 4g instead of the G2x, but if you are wondering between the Sensation and the G2x - deff. get the Sensation.
I will be getting the Sensation on the 15th and I am currently using the G2X. After I play around with the Sensation, I will decide which one I am giving to my wife. I was one of the lucky ones who got a G2X with absolutely NO bugs and a great battery. There's no doubt that the G2X is faster and snappier than the Sensation so it all comes down to form. Hold both of them and see which one you like better. Also ask yourself if you want Sense or Vanilla. In my opinion the Sensation looks better but the G2X providing you get one with no bugs, performs better.

Hopefully you'll get a sensation without any bugs or major issues. I had the g2x, it was great but I just didn't like stock vanilla.

I wouldn't call it a country mile. The only way I would call it a country mile was if the Sensation performed better than the G2X. The only phone I would call a country mile over the G2X would be the SGSII because it both looks better and performs better than the G2X. The Sensation only looks better.

You worry far too much about some things. It may not score as high in benchmarks but they are benchmarks, its a PHONE for god sake!
All I have seen you do is complain, I don't even know why you are bothering to get one if you think its so awful...

Would you recommend the G2X?

Its time to get a new phone. I haven't decide between the G2X and the sensation. So I ask if you would recommended the G2X. Please say why you would or would not.
Thanks

No. I've warned people away from it already who have asked me. I don't want to be the person who advised the phone and they get one that has all the issues we read.
I fully recommend it. Its a great phone all around. Sensation has lots of issues you could encounter as well as the g2x. Personally I've barely had any problems with the phone at all. Its super fast and snappy and I'm thinking after using it I can't ever go slower without feeling inferior. I've read a lot about each phone and here's my take... if you want a phone that's got slightly better hardware and a stripped down ui (no sense) then go g2x. If your not so critical about quality and basic ui and want a more flashy yet slightly bogged down phone that's a little more user friendly go sensation. Neither phone is superior than the other, just personal preference. Personally I love my g2x and I think the sensation looks cheap in comparison.

The G2x is awesome if you have a little patience and don't mind doing a few tinkerings yourself to fix a bug or two.
The G2x is the best phone out on the fence with the Samsung Galaxy S II and the best, hands down, phone for games.
The phone itself is amazing but was rushed out of the gate with gimped software. Luckily we have great devs here that quickly came to the rescue. LG has also put out two test updates and preparing for a final release. We also have CM7.1 and Miui rooms, custom OC/UV kernels and the whole nine.
The G2x is a hackers delite right now but not at the point where it is ready for your grandmother. Once the final-stage update hits things will be smooth sailing for all.

Highly recommended. It's an awesome phone and I've always said that. Most problems you'll hear about are software related and as mentioned above there is great dev support for this phone. CM7 is very solid and fast and there are many other great roms too. If you're comfortable flashing basically anything other than stock, then you'll be very happy with this phone.
I have both the G2X and the Sensation. I would reccomend both phones and both phones do things better than the other. You have to make the decision yourself and if I were you, I would use both phones for a couple hours to figure out what you like the best.
Someone mentioned that the Sensation is boggy but its only boggy in the UI when running Sense. HTC did a terrible job optimizing it. I'm sure it will be updated soon though. When it comes to everything but the UI, the phone is actually faster than the G2X. It loads Google Maps faster, loads all apps faster, zooms and scrolls through web pages faster and takes pictures a lot faster due to continuous focus.
Most people don't know that the Sensation is faster than the G2X outside of the UI because they hanvnt had the time to actually sure down with it. They have only messed around with it in the store or watched videos.
When it comes to the UI, if you use ADW or Launcher Pro in place of Sense, the phone becomes as responsive if not more responsive than the G2X.
If you want, I can make a video for you backing all my statements up. Also, what kind of responses do you expect to get when you post this question in the respective phones forum? HAHA.

I'm gonna disagree. The sensation even with adw ex isn't faster than the g2x... Honestly I heard the browser with a special fix was also faster than the g2x browser.. Not true in my experience, the sensation was not much faster than my vibrant.
The sensation wasn't slow with adw, but you couldn't fly through the ui with as much ease and speed as the g2x. Ultimately that's what really brought me back to the g2x..
Just saying imo my 4 g2xs were faster than my 3 sensations even with adw ex. I will agree sometimes the sensation interacts with apps quicker, but straight ui browsing and must things the g2x wins. Also gaming, there was a huge difference in gaming from that extra resolution on the sensation...
No brainer, the g2x is all around better in my opinion.

Yes, I would recommend. I have not had any problems with the phone. It's easy to handle and easy to root and update. If you buy a new one from T-Mobile and not off eBay or Craig's list you should avoid problems. I had no problems with mine, purchased June 9 from Amazon wireless.

I've said it before in recent posts but out of the 4 Sensations I had, all of them have been different in speed. The first 2 I had were pretty slow but the last two were fast. Right after you gave up on your Sensation we found a fix that makes the UI a lot faster and more responsive. It was as simple as turning "Tell HTC off". When it comes to gaming, I can only speak for two games and both of those games look better and run better in the Sensation. They are Angry Birds and HomeRun Battle. A UI can only be so fast before it doesn't really matter anymore and both of the phones (once ADW is on the Sensation) are pretty much at that level. In my opinion it is more important to have a faster web browser and faster app interaction than it is to have a fast UI. On the G2X, Google maps takes a while to load when moving it around but on the Sensation it is instant. Also my contacts pictures take a couple se ones to load while scrolling on my G2X but there already there as you s roll on the Sensation. Finally, when scrolling through the market, the app pictures take a while to load on the G2X but are also instant on the Sensation.
Seriously though, I can't tell which UI is faster when running ADW on the Sensation. Maybe I have my settings different than what you did. You know I don't have any problems making a video to back up my statements. Would you like me to make another video for you showing the speed of my Sensation while using ADW?

Yes. Especially now with MIUI giving it a sexy UI to match the hardware.

Hey if you can do that and don't mind i will really use that info. The g2x and Sensation will be the next phone i will get. They have what i want in a phone:
Dual core
4inch plus screens
and dev support(once the bootloader is unlocked sensation will have plenty)
My concerns are that it seems the g2x doesn't run smooth without rooting and flashing a custom rom? Now if that's the case then that's fine.
Also another question do any of these phones have NFC? which also makes me want a Nexus S(Not a deal breaker, but i always wanted to try out the NFC tags)

I hope you are right but I'm not so convinced. If there are devs out there who are holding off on buying a new phone until a monster with an unlocked bootloader comes along, I don't know that they will be getting the Sensation later this year when it finally gets unlocked. If they see the Hercules or Nexus 3 next to the 5 or 6 month old Sensation I think they will choose newer. It would be cool to see support for the Sensation, so I hope I'm wrong.

Someone had to. I like my phone, lucky enough to get a great one on launch day. The GPS really pisses me off about it.
People I know with Android devices never heard of rooting or loading custom roms. The phone almost requires you to do so to work properly; thus, I don't recommend it for the average user.

Good Bye G2x

Just wanted to say goodbye! Pretty good phone over all, but i have to say the Amaze is soo much better/snappier/batterylife. I always felt like LG was crap in general. Their T.Vs were very poorly made, their everything sucks! LG OPtimus 2x Proved to be a mediocre device. HTC Amaze is well... amazing, and im happy to have moved on! Good bye G2x, you were great to me!
That's odd. everything i've heard about the amaze is that the battery life isn't very good. I checked out their development thread and read the same thing. Are you saying the battery life is better? If so then by how much?
Gotta tell you I put Arcee's ICS SK3 on this G2x of mine, and it feels like I'm using a Nexus device. I don't think the battery life is better on the Amaze IMO. What is better though is the camera. It has a dedicated camera button, and user uploaded images look nice, miles better than ours.
My G2x has fulfilled all my needs but I'd say the only thing mediocre about this phone is LG's support. They just can't be arsed to provide news on updates to us (left us out of the loop with this ass-handed comment "The exact start dates can vary by market, as each country can have different requirements, depending on the carrier and the smartphone model.". It basically means, blame T-Mobile if ICS takes too long), work with T-Mobile/Nvidia in terms of updates, kernels, drivers etc.. At least HTC cares about you guys in that department.
Well, best of luck to you on your future Amaze 4G endeavors!
After putting ICS on this phone I regret selling my other 2 g2x I had......Hell I sometimes use the g2x more than my galaxy nexus also.....the battery on this is epic compared to the galaxy nexus at times!!!

Seriously though, Happy enough with my G2x to wait another year for the contract to end. Amirite?
Good luck with the Amaze!
this device is nice, with ISC its much faster and battery life is better. never liked the HTC devices.
Agreed...other than screen size i wouldnt train this phone in right now....amoleds are nice but only when brightness is high....sure there are more powerful phones but its all numbers. Other than being able to brag on benchmarks most of the time most of us wouldnt notice

To each their own. I held out for my G2X to come out when it was one of the first dual core phones to come out with the intention of getting a good amount of mileage out of it since it was somewhat future proof, which was my main reason for staying away from the Galaxy Nexus S. Now that our awesome developers are starting to piece together ICS for the phone, I feel like it is finally reaching it's full potential. Battery life for me has been insanely good and this alpha build is incredibly stable for me as I have no problems running it as a daily driver. But HTC does make great phones, my first Android phone was the mytouch slide. The Mrs. still uses it, rooted and with cyanogen of course, and I'm still impressed with how solid of a phone it is. Hope you enjoy your Amaze!

So far my battery is at 90% and ive taken it off charge since about 10:00 AM EST -5 , with the g2x the same amount of usage it would have been at like 60% , i cant compare them side by side, the amaze feels better in my hand though, and MUCH more snappier. The 512 Ram kind of killed the phone a bit, compared to the 1GB the amaze has, camera blows it away, and sense is pretty nice, IMO. The device never heats up, never lags, never anything! maybe its just me but even with ICS, unless overclocked to 1.2Ghz atleast, it wouldnt be smooth at all! also this has the penta band frequency which is good over here in canada cause wind/mobilicity do not have 2g bands so yeah. Thats my imput. Also this phone is more beautiful in terms of looks. Its just so attractive!
What i do miss about G2x? - How easy it was to flash roms! i just got this device last night and im not going to flash any roms as of yet, but it seems too complex.
also my cousin owns the galaxy nexus and ic an say my amaze is much snappier overall even though it is on 2.3, but then again his screen resolution is a bit higer, and cpu is clocked less. Also screen on Gnexus is too blue-ish
Btw for the amaze their is a tool box that does everything for u, install drivers, s off and flash cwm and a rom all from the tool box. I'd say its pretty easy. They are even numbered in order on the toolbox
Edit: here is link for the tool box and I think in wrong about s off. Sorry never had an HTC phone so I don't know how s off or on works. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493905

The amaze is actually ****ty compared to the G2x which can actually compete with the SGS2. The Amaze is ugly, has bad battery, will have s-off issues, and HTC has just always been **** imo everything HTC has released has been proven to be a pile of **** sooner or later (excluding the HD2). Anyways, the only thing wrong with the G2x is the stock software, and some of the ROMs here will really bring out the speed and battery life of it.
Have fun with your Amaze.

It's gotta be user error, I have my G2x underclocked to 750 mhz and everything runs smooth as butter, and I can get over 2 days battery life easily.
But, to each his own, I may think HTC devices are ugly but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
lol whats so ****ty about the amaze in your eyes? has better everything, s3 processor, better Gpu, more ram. The looks are debateable, some like the HTC some like the G2x better, you should not completly put a device down. The Amaze is just an upgraded Sensation in terms of everything, and maybe it was just me, but i reinstalled 2x version of ICS from CM9 with full wipesand everything. and thanksfor that link moehmad
Edit: also the screen on/off was actually a bit unresponsive on the g2x which always pissed me off
Np for the link, don't forget to tell me how everything goes for the root tool kit. I wanna use it for my friends phone but i haven't done anything to htc yet so I don't wanna ruin his phone. Also here is the link to install kernel cuz I don't think the tool kit has it, haven't checked in a while.

The fact that it will have s- on/off issues and that horrible heavy ass sense ui. Also, I don't understand people saying that the ICS roms are the smoothest they've tried on the G2x, if they are they've been doing something wrong with the Froyo/GB roms. Eaglesblood 2.3.7 with Trinity ELP kernel underclocked to 750 gave me the performance of a stock G2x at 1Ghz and gave me extremely long battery life. The ICS roms are not meant to be smooth yet, just to work and give G2x users a taste of ICS.
dont know anything about Amaze (specs do look good) but I have zero problems with G2x, built quality is good, fast, no lag, battery is very good on 1.1Ghz kernel. My next phone will be at least 720p with NFC and CM support.

For me this phone is now living up to it's full potential with ICS. I love the speed and stability that it now has. I am on a fixed income, so when I bought the G2X I knew it would have to be my phone for a long time.
Barring hardware issues, it looks like this phone will work great for me.
