My guess is yes but the OP should look into signing up for Google Voice which will do exactly what he wants PLUS send him a text with a transcription of the message and allow him to play back the voice message on his phone!
yes voicemail
yes i mean voicemail. But google voice dont use a diferente phone number that mine? or i m wrong?
regards
ok, i´m wrong, but im from argentina and cant get a portable number for google voice, then i need an answer machine / voicemail soft. jeje
I would love this too!
Please don't mention Google Voice. This is a request for a local app.
You can forward your voicemail to your GV number while keeping your number. So when someone calls you and it goes to voicemail they get sent to your GV number, quite useful
Mhhh... remember im from argentina, forward to gv charge an international call? Or not?
And if i would check msgskeys (from gv) i need internet connection, need i?

You are correct, currently only the US and Canada get to make domestic calls free. Argentina will be an international charge (until they open it up to everyone which is bound to happen at some point). This doesn't mean you can't use it for strictly a voicemail forward though. I'm 85% sure that voice mail forwarding is a free service.
As far as being online goes, your phone should always be online if you have 3G. You can't check your voice mails on any phone in the world without cell phone reception, the same is the case here.
The other popular one is youmail, but it only works with US carriers as well, so I think you're best be is GV, but you'll need to do some research on the voice mail forwarding policy.
Yes, im always online, i can check gv in anytime, but forward voicemail from my carrier involves international costs.
The soft i need is not so strange and may be easyer to use.
Well i will search a little more.
Thanks anyway!!
Sorry I have to ask, but does Argentina not have voicemail?
Yes, but paid and without much control of it, like around the world.
Hi, I live in Australia and same thing here. I have to pay for my voicemail retreivals by the minute which is very annoying as i get alot for work. At the moment im in a contract so cant shop around for a better plan and having a local app on my device for voicemail would be awesome.
Such an app would be awesome! Since Google Voice also do not work in Singapore.
Hey guys,
I don't know if any of you have encountered this problem, but it seems that it not possible to use the GV app on a Sprint phone without the Sprint integration. I removed the settings for the GV app on my NS4G and now when I try to set up GV again, I only get the one of two options 1) port my Sprint # to GV, or 2) use my GV # for outgoing calls. I want to do neither, and yet use GV for outgoing international calls. This is how it works on other providers, and I was able to do so earlier on Sprint as well, but now it seems like full integration is the only way to go on Sprint.
Is there a workaround?
Update google voice from the market and when you first open google voice, hit "skip" on the first page instead of "next". It will then assign you a different google voice # other than your integrated one

Thank you very much! I didn't realise there was an update in the market that fixes this. I guess upgrading to 2.3.5 must've killed whatever updates the app had. It works as expected now.

Glad to here it.
I'm having similar problems... At first, all of my calls went through google voice and I had no option to change it... I called Sprint, and the representative said she had to "undo it from her side"...
Now no matter what I do, when I call it will not use my google voice number at all... This worked fine on AT&T, and on my first Evo 3D (sprint and it overheated so I got it exchanged)
I just want to use it in a similar way to how the OP did... the widget even has the "Use for all calls" selected and greyed out...
i installed Google Voice earlier today on my Thunderbolt as i've heard that you can use it to make calls. after installation, there did not seem to be an option anywhere to actually make a call.
i noticed in 'settings', there's a sub category called "making calls" and has 3 options:
Only use Google Voice for international calls
Do not use Google Voice to make any calls
Ask every time I make an international call
there ofcourse does not seem to be any option for domestic calls so i just left it at "Ask every time..." but still, i get nothing.
Can anyone actually explain step by step on what needs to be done & how to actually make calls with this thing?
i've tried doing google searches & browsing google's help page but it didn't help.
thanks

I just got the Blaze 4G and when I try to choose "Google Voice" in voicemail settings, it just shows my T-mobile voicemail phone # and that's it. On my other Android phones, I would click on Google Voice in voicemail settings and that would be it.
Please help. Thanks!
Pretty sure google voice does not work with tmobile. You have to port your number to gvoice in order to get the functionality you
No- It works with all of my other tmobile phones... this is just happening on the new samsung blaze 4g...
Yea its just weird put in your google voice number and it will work if you don't know it sign into your voice account and it will have it next to your name or in your settings
Sent from my SGH-T769 using XDA
Log in to google voice at google.com/voice, click the little tool icon on the right side, and if you hit the edit button, it will give you a string of characters very similar to this:
##004#612-555-1234## with the number being your number of course.
You punch that in the dialer and it will change your settings automatically. Much easier than setting it manually.
BTW, tmobile prepaid is really hard to get google voice to work, I'm sure it's doable, but I've read many people say it's not possible.
I just ported my service from ATT about 2 weeks ago, and it works just fine.
Cheers!
This is for the S5, but I assume it would work on the galaxy note 4 and all other devices with this issue.
Hi all, I wanted to let you know that there is a very easy work around for this limitation. It is supplied by Google Inc through the Hangouts Dialer app. I'm not sure whether or not you need Hangouts installed to use it, but it allows you to make calls via the data network and still use the network to browse the web, etc. I have tried it several times at home with WiFi off and it works flawlessly so far.
It's sad that Sprint didn't find a way to bypass this limitation on their own, or at least inform customers, but this is an easy and seamless solution by Google.
I put the icon right next to my default phone icon for future use.
Additionally, I can not believe that Sprint is not aware of this work around. I spoke to a few different representatives today, and none were able to offer a solution.
I found this on my own searching the play store. Hope this helps!!
I posted this in the community forum on sprint.com. Hopefully they will figure out a way to make it work......
Sprint:
As I have stated in other posts, the "Hangouts Dialer" app allows you to make calls over the data connection without WiFi and still be able to surf the web. (Please note, this app is different from "Hangouts", it is "Hangouts Dialer" by Google Inc.)
This works on my S5, and it should work on any device that can install the app.
This has not been suggested by any of the Sprint Agents in any of the posts I have seen. I have seen suggestions to use Skype and other VOIPs, but there are some charges and they require a WiFi signal.
This is very confusing because if the app is able to make calls using the data network, then why doesn't Sprint set up the default dialer to do the same thing if there is no WiFi connection? I do understand that this would increase the load on the data network, but you are losing customers at a significant rate due to this issue. Anybody who needs to be on the phone and confirm appts, emails, etc with the person/client/coworker they are on the phone with is not able to do so. This is a monumental step backwards that is inexcusable with todays technology. Waiting for VOLTE is not a solution, as the time frame on this is not guaranteed.
Please consider my suggestion for the default dialer app. Google already has it functional in the Hangouts Dialer app, so there is no reason it can't be done.
Thanks!

I decided to try this out, since you've been posting the same info in multiple threads. It works, but it's flawed. This ONLY works if you're calling someone who is also using Google Hangouts. (If they aren't, you're prompted to send them an SMS. The reason that we can't make simultaneous voice and data is a limitation of CDMA. Until Sprint updates to VoLTE, it's something Sprint users have dealt with since the first smart phone.

Ramer,
Thank you for responding to my post. I need to point out that you have two apps confused. As above, the app is not "Hangouts". It is "Hangouts Dialer". This is a dialer app. It can call landlines, cell phones, etc. No need for call to go to somebody who is also using Hangouts.
Please install the "Hangouts Dialer" app, turn off your WiFi, call a landline with the app, and then see if you can surf. I have had no issues with it so far.
Please let me know!

I did download and install Hangouts Dialer. Turned off Wifi. When I called my other phone, it worked as you stated. When I called a contact that was not on Hangouts, I get a pop-up that that person is not on Hangouts, do you want to send them an SMS?. Try calling a number (like a business) and see what you get.

If you link up your phone number to Google Voice and than use make a call from Hangout Dialer than you can make phone calls regardless if they have hangouts app or not!

Ramer,
I have called several businesses this way and have had no issues. The post above by zune70 does suggest linking your number to google voice. I don't recall doing that, but maybe I did. Maybe you can try that and see if it works?

Having a google voice number probably is the key, I let my number get cancelled after years of non-use. No biggie, was just testing this out.

Go and type google voice on google and log on to the website with your Google account. There should be an option to add a Google voice number. Click on the one that says use your existing number and type in your number. It should detect that it's a sprint number and continue to the next step to enable google voice on your phone. If you don't want google voice on your phone anymore just go back to he website and disable your number from Google voice. You can always reactivate it at any time you want

Tried this with the hangouts dialer app and Wi-Fi turned off calling a non hangouts phone number (my work phone). It does work, call and internet at the same time but for me it was very laggy, but does in fact work so good find

I called Capital one and surfed it works
Thx for the info this seems to work if your placing the call, question, is there away to talk and surf if your not the one placing the call?
I didn't read the entire thread.. My vzw S3 could have LTE and voice simultaneously. The S5 has a modified modem to disconnect 3G/LTE when sms/voice radio activates for battery saving. Annoying when downloading GB files!
