you can try to do a master reset and see if that fixes it, but i would get a new battery if its overheating its probably because cant keep up with the Milliamp draw by the phone and its heating up because its too stressed

Mine has been @ 109F on a hot day outside temperature was @97F

[Q] battery overheating question

hey all, maybe its just my paranoid self, but i just want to be sure;
i was charging my phone, and at the same time, i was playing slice it. suddenly i realized that the back of the phone was getting really hot, and i checked the temperature. it was about 45c, and i was gettin freaked out, so i took the batttery and put in the fridge for like 10 seconds, before realizing that was a stupid mistake. after about 5 minutes, it cooled back down to 30.5c. i believe that perhaps the battery was around 45c for about a minute or so.
I was just wondering, do you think my battery life will suffer from my idiotic antics? Im a bit worried that itll have a significant impact, even if it was for a few minutes? Did i 'burn' out some of the lithium ion cells?
much help appreciated!
thanks alot!
Just curious, does only your battery get warm, or does the top half of the phone (above the battery) got hot too?
Phone only overheated when I had bluetooth and wifi running while charging

its just the back of the phone where the battery is located
Mine did the exact same thing last night with fruit ninja of all things. I also put my whole phone in the fridge for one minute and it dropped the battery temp from 45c to 38c. The battery condition also said "overheated" instead of "good" which it has said since then.

I don't think anyone really knows and begging for an answer is a quick way to get flamed.
I know that if you were to rapidly cool metal or another material in that same manner, it would crack. I don't know if that same issue would apply to batteries. I definitely wouldn't put anything overheated directly into a frozen environment like that.

Mine had the same problem. Whenever i put it on charge it would heat up within minutes and then upon unplugging it would cool down. I read somewhere in the forum to discharge completely and then recharge to full. I did that and its been 1 week since that and no problems with overheating and battery life is also improved. My battery`s health is still GOOD i checked using * # * # 4 6 3 6 # * # *
Hope this helps.
I undervolted the cpu. Overheating almoat stopped. I swapped battery and has been better since. Usually running two quadrants i would start feeling it get hotter and hotter. On new battery i run four an don't notice any major change.
G2x with CM7 and trinity kernel
out of the blue overheating
My phone was awesome...but now it overheats....??
I am going to try and undervolt and see if that helps my problems but my phone just goes crazy hot when it's asleep and idk what to do, even w/ a new warranty phone, and i could tell it's new cause it still had the green tap by the buttons and stuff...the old one got crazy hot, but only after cm7 build33....and this was also after i changed the recovery to 3101 ext4 supported one....can a recovery affect your roms (overheat it) i would't think so, it only loads on command idk how it would....hmmmmm my vibrant would be a dead cold 28-29c when on idle/sleep but w/ this phone it just gets hot and is about 37-43 when doing nothing.....i'm going to try the undervolt thing w/ cm7 latest build and faux123's kernel 0.1.1 and try to undervolt it, i'll search thru that thread for good undervolting starting points...and play w/ that......idk i'm just confused why it is just now happening and not before, i had it on launch day and no problems till last week....i'm lost..

Infuse battery extremely hot???

I've been using it for ten minutes on the charger and for some reason the screen brigntness was low. So I went to the settings and it says "to avoid overheating maximum brightness has been reduced".. and my temperature is 47 degrees now. Anyone elses phone getting hot?

This used to happen with my Samsung Vibrant 4g... i believe you could burn the phone if it continues, it might be a factory issue.
Same here, charging on the wall charger with screen off, it hit 47c and won't go to max brightness.
I've also jist noticed after 50% the charging time decreases significantly. I went from 50% to 90% in 45 min

Mine got hot and I lost all service. It was up to about 93% charge and it just lost all cellular service. I had it rooted but didnt carrier unlock it. Got a replacement phone this morning and Im leaving it alone to see how it does while charging. With the long charge times this could be an issue. Not everyone can let a device set and not mess with it for 3-4 hours, lol I know I cant.

Technically I don't think you are supposed to be using your phone while on the charger... This happens to all phones just some heat up faster than others.... My old ATT Startac did that, SE W900, Captivate, and this one.
It really kills the life of the battery too as well. Nature of the beast....

Just an update, charged past 50% on the new phone and its picking up speed and charging much faster. Temp is steady at 87F. Seems like I really just had a bad unit because the other phone got up to 116F just charging with the screen off.

Replacement battery fixed sleep of death/charging issues

I got a replacement battery from T-Mobile about a week ago for the G2X and since I've been using it I have had ZERO sleep of deaths or charging related issues. The phone runs much much cooler as well.
I remember with my old battery a few times when I had the sleep of death and had to pull the battery the battery was rather warm and there was an odor like it was overheating. Also there were times when the phone just felt hot while charging or in use. This no longer also happens.
I still get reboots but I believe strongly that to be a software issue since my reboots used to be every 18-20 hours and now after some app changes the phone usually lasts 30-40 hours before it reboots.
So if you are having sleep of death issues or charging related problems, get your battery swapped out!
My old battery had a 3/28/11 date and my new one has a 4/28/11 date so anything after 4/28/11 should be safe.
good to hear.. my new battery should be here today.
got my replacement yesterday. 14 hours uptime but I'm not holding my breath for any difference. I only got sod like 3 times the entire time I've had the phone.
I'm getting my replacement battery Monday so lets hope that's the issue.
I really think it's a temperature problem with the battery. When I lay the phone battery down, and charge it, sleep of death. When I have the protective case on and charge it, SoD. When I have the phone sitting on it's side, kind of standing up while charging, no SoD. Also, when driving and it's in sunlight with the case on, I get the SoD. Without the case, no SoD.
I can only gather that the battery is bad and gets too hot, forcing a shutdown.
49 hours 15 minutes uptime and not a single SOD or reboot. Phone runs noticeably cooler while charging also. SOD may be due to the battery afterall.
old battery dated 4/16, new one 4/23 so I dont think date has anything to do with it.
Please answer me....
I have the same problem and i ask you that battery replace solve the problem indeed...

[Q] battery temp

my inspire is running honeysense 5.0 with recomended radio and the battery temp just jumped from 70 degrees to 87.7 degrees in like 5 minutes i was waundering if anyone knew what my battery temp should be hovering around
87 sounds about right...you probably just booted your phone up or started using it from standby..
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
ok sounds good. i just heard bad things about this rom heating up and burning cpu's so glad to hear mines ok kinda got worried for a second
I hear ya...
Running the same ROM and I have had no issues at all with the temperature getting to hot.
I did read about the problem before, and everytime my phone feels warm I check the battery but it ends up being my hand that is warm and not the phone itself

Random heat

Was just wondering if anyone else had experienced random heating up from the sensation and perhaps managed to pinpoint its cause?
The reason I am so confused is because it doesn't do it all the time so its not that the phone just runs hot, the other day I was playing gta 3 for an hour and the phone was barely warm and now as I type this after some casual web browsing out and about its getting so I can barely touch the bottom of the phone, I saw someone mention something to do with mobile data causing more heat than Wi-Fi which could be the case for my example but can anyone shed anymore light on the issue?

Yes for me when I was using a stock BATTERY I would experience this quite often.sometimes my device would get so hot I could barely touch it. I was actually in fear of melting my SD card! I solved my problem by purchasing a long lasting battery called Anker. My device has never done that since the battery has been installed! Sometimes if I'm playing a intense game I'll get some warmth but Nothing like what was happening before. Before the battery change I could barely even touch my device it was so hot ! The Anker battery solved the problem for me and gave me much more battery time! It was a win win situation, no more overheating and more battery time! That's what worked for me. Hope this helps you out.

My device got some warmth but not that blazing hot. My guess is that you using mobile data a lot without giving it a rest. I'm using the stock battery but it seems quite ok. But sometimes I play HD games and my sensation turns really hot but i could still hold that
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE using xda premium
I often get decently hot even with my anker battery, but I usually just ignore it and it goes away, I would use "battery indicator" from the play store to see what your battery temp really is, because my phone has felt hot before even though the battery itself was at a fine temperature. If its the battery then think about getting a new battery, but if it isn't then there no reason.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda app-developers app
For me my problem was definitely the battery, ! My battery also was giving me only two hours then complete drain. Each issue can be different. But new battery solved the over heat problem for me but I'm certain -my battery was defective.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
I'm using anker batteries and after some more testing I've found that it is related to mobile data, after playing games such as Max Payne, gta 3, and minecraft all pretty demanding for a few hours the phone got no more than slightly warm and then I turned mobile data and syncing on checked emails and Facebook etc and the bottom of the phone near the buttons got very hot even after like ten mins, pretty weird.

I get it sometimes with heavy use of mobile data with stick battery.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e using xda premium
Constant data usage causes it to heat up. But I also UV'd my phone, which only exacerbated the problem. Once I removed the UV, the heat issue was nowhere near as bad.
Sent from my sleek sexy Sensation with ViperS
i often felt heat phone
i think common ics build problem.
htc have to release some about heating phone.
i go back to gingerbread. it is little heating phone.
i recommend to gingerbread.
The phone gets so hot due to a bad layout on the motherboard, even with an Anker battery I have actually burnt my thumb tip on bottom of the screen.
One way to help the problem is by getting an Anker battery, the only problem with these is they do not have a built in temperature sensor as it was removed to expand battery capacity. So any temperature app will say approx 25.2'c
After some researching I found that the app System Tuner can read CPU temps in realtime, get Pro and the CPU Temp icon pack and you can have alerts that are fully customizable.
