I had a kernel flashed into my phone and apparently it wasn't compatible. I used the one that gave out high voltage or something and now my phone won't recognize anything, SD card Sim card or Wifi won't work. I press volume down and power and it won't take me to the Rom manager set up thing. What do i do?
You should install cwm through nvflash, then use power + volume down to boot into cwm and restore the backup you should have made.

nvflash does not recognize the phone. I can root it with one click root and it reads the device... the nvflash doesn't sadly

yea dude read it very carefully cuz if u got root then u should be able to nvflash and it sounds like only thing missing is the apx drivers, what recovery are u going to flash, internal or external?
Nvflash the recovery, grab the stock nandroid backup in the dev subforum, restore and be on your merry way.

I am modifying this post removing some steps:
Note that you can always go back to orignal Odin ROM using Vibrant Download Mode in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978836
You should know what you are doing, otherwise I am not reponsible for any device brick.
1- Use SuperOneClick 1.7 to gain root (USB debugging enabled).
Open SuperOneClick and run Shell Root with your phone plugged in.
Use Rage option, then once done, reboot the phone and verify root using "Root Checker" from the Market.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
2. Download "3e_recovery_installer.zip" from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
run the 3e Recovery Installer. When finished, close.
3. Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery via ROM Manager from market by selecting "Vibrant" when asked for phone type. Then reboot into recovery. (You may need to reboot your phone if you get stuck on the ROM Manager "Reboot to Recovery" screen) (Just reboot, then attempt to reboot into recovery again)
At the blue recovery select "reinstall packages". The first time will fail, run it once more, and you should now have the green CWM Recovery menu.
4. Install Kernel Flasher from the Market and backup the kernel.
5. use Rom Manager to flash Data and Dalvik init.d-busybox with data to SD update.zip to fix Data and Dalvik init.d-busybox from below link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744655
6- When finshed you should be able to backup and restore the ROM using Rom Mananger.

Once i flashed 4g_sd-fix_New in rom manager it the phone rebooted and did the exact opposite of what it was supposed to do. It no factory reset my phone and neither the sd card nor the internal storage mount.
Any help would be appreciated here.

Is anyone able to get data back?
I tried using Odin to flash to stock and I'm still unable to get data connection unless I connect to Wifi.
I sure hope you modified the SD Fix.....
That fix was created by Eugene and I to fix mounting for the Vibrant. If flashed to a 4G, it'll break.
I wouldn't recommend this method at all, this looks risky. Just wait for krylon or koush to come out with a proper release of cwm. I have offered to lend my phone to either of them and im sure as soon as either one has the time they will get it going.
I don't like doing things half ass, and while the work is appreciated i wouldn't recommend this guide to the average user as i lost my first 4g to a similar guide.

Yes, Step 5 was created by us to allow both Internal and External SD to auto mount to the phone and PC on the VIBRANT.
We had to modify the stock 4G files to allow this due to the 4G only having a external SD.
For now, I'm reporting this thread due to it being just like the last "CWM for Vibrant works on the 4G" thread which caused bricks, which resulted in me having to create the ODIN image for everyone.
Please do not jump the gun. Be patient.

You need to install cwm the right way. (through nvflash)
This way you can boot directly into recovery and either flash gapps or restore from the nandroid backup you should have made.

I'm gonna assume that you flashed CWM using Rom Manager because if you did it through NVFLash, you can always get into recovery by holding power and volume down.
You can try google the Rom Manager APK and download that and transfer it over via usb and install it. You might need a file manager too in order to install the APK.
Also go to your Application Management and see if you can find Rom Manager, if you do, uninstall it then try install it via your PC again.
The last resort and something you should do anyways is Flash CWM using NVFlash because it will ALWAYS allow you to get back into recovery to restore or flash new rom incase something goes wrong. Rom Manager is only fakeflash.
There is a thread show you how to do this over in G2X Android Dev Forum.
And if none of that works am I looking at a brick?

NVFlash will work for sure, unless your phone is not turning on right now at all (bricked).. otherwise, just flash CWM using NVFlash right now.. and once your done, just hold power and volume down and restore your back up or if you dont have your nandroid, get the stock one that is posted over in the Dev Forum.
I'm not very familiar with nvflash, I'll see if I can figure it out. Where do you recommend I start?
Over at G2X Android Dev Forum there is a step by step guide very very easy to use. This is the General Forum.

If so hit up the dev section and find one of our many awesome custom roms id suggest start with valhalla final by whitehawkx. Download it on your computer.

Connect your phone to the computer with your usb, it'll open like usual on your comp.

What might get you into recovery is by trying:
shutting the phone down (you might have to remove the battery). Hold down volume up, volume down, & the power button. keep holding them down until you see the "Galaxy S" screen. When that screen gets a bit brighter only let go of the power button. Keep holding the volume buttons down until you see the recovery screen.

Ok just got this phone and have decided to go with Phoenix Blood rom, but how do i start? I have to be on froyo to root? Im coming from samsung epic on sprint that i flashed so im not completely retarded. Thanks for any help
Use superoneclick to root on froyo.
If your on 2.3.3 gb there's a flashable. Zip in development section to root.
Also you will want to use tgagunnmans nvflash method to install clockworkmod recovery in dev section.
Phoenix blood is a great choice btw, enjoy!

You're still on Froyo? To my understanding it's a good idea to flash the OTA GB first so that you'll get the up to date baseband. Once that's done just go ahead and flash PB.

Yes, but make sure you're using NVFlash to get CWM. Don't use Rom Manager.
Easiest way is using the tool unlockroot. It supports gb on the G2X. Or you can use nvflash, whichever you prefer.

From that thread:
Flashing the custom recovery using NvFlash is the only way to ensure that in the case your phone will not boot up, you will be able to get into recovery to fix the issue / flash a ROM / restore from nandroid backup. That is what this app will do for you.
If you flashed the ClockworkMod recovery from ROM Manager it does not flash the recovery to your phone, it fake flashed it. The only way you can gain access to ClockworkMod recovery is through ROM Manager at that point. Using this method is the only way to flash recovery so it is persistent and accessible booting to recovery.
If you have already flashed through ROM Manager you can still proceed with this method. Flash Away!
(You can use both ROM Manager CWM and have the nvflashed version working together. You just access either or one at a time, having the nvflashed one means you can boot to CWM. Welcome to Tegra2)

Follow the link. This is a must for tegra 2 based phones. It is always better to be safe than sorry and it also allows you to do a ton of other things, such as making backups and flashing roms. Let us know if you need help. The phone is pretty much unbrickable after you do this. It gives you the ability to recover from any major mistake.
Its in the dev thread, it low level flashes clockworkmod recovery to our phones internal memory partition. You need to install apx drivers first in order for the g2x to be nvflashed.

thanks for the help guys got it all set up
Just to add in, nvflash allows u to boot into cwm recovery whenever u want and u don't need to be next to a computer. I think that is how it worked for Samsung phones and Odin, where u needed a computer, but haven't used a Samsung phone so I could be wrong. Remember always make a back up of everything and play around with the different roms, not every rom works for everyone
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Actually Odin is just like nvflash. It is used to put cwm on you phone and to put the stock recovery back on.
Once you have cwm you can flash what ever rom or kernel without the need for root. Just back up your stock unrooted stock rom before flashing anything else.
If you do that you will have your own stock backup with no need of finding it in the forums if you need to go back to stock.

Abandonware??? What gives you that idea??
In the play store ROM Manager was updated the 16th of this month, and if CWM was also abandonware then no newer devices would have been getting CWM on it.
Is that a legit question or are you trolling? I find it hard to believe someone would be calling it that.
