[Q] GPS static navigation on Desire S - HTC Desire S

I found that my HTC desire S has static navigation enabled.
It means: If stop walking, gps get fixed to actual position. After it, if I go walking, gps stay in this fixed position. I must run (speed up) to cancel this fixation and normal measuring actual position.
Does anybody know, how to disable static navigation and makes it so useable (for tourism and geocaching)?
I don't know, what chip is inside (any software to detect it)?

yesterday i used Emdomondo for my walk and then saw the route in google maps without having any problems. maybe it's the software you used to find your position.

Yeah I've had no similar issues using gps. Sounds like could be software issue.

It is not a SW issue, static navigation is disable by default and it cause to hold GPS updates even using Endomondo, must be a way to enable/disable, any help?

Google Navigation Internal GPS Requirement

Has anyone developed a solution to Google Navigation requiring internal GPS to be enabled for initial use? I use an external antenna when driving to save on battery, and Google Maps and Navigation both recognize and correctly receive the data, but when first opening Google Navigation it won't let me continue to navigation unless I enable internal GPS. Sure, I can enable it and then quickly disable it, but I have to do this each time I leave the program to open another and it gets aggravating and is an unnecessary distraction while driving. I'd like Google Navigation to be made to think internal GPS is enabled so I can enter and leave the application with ease. I've searched both Google and these forums but it doesn't seem as though anyone has tackled this issue yet. Did I just miss the thread?
What about an nfc sticker. It could be programmed to toggle gps. They even make key chain ones.

I never thought about that. Good idea. But wouldn't turning it on and off simply to open up Google Navigation constitute nearly the same thing since the toggles are readily available on the phone already (and by relation, on my head unit)? Perhaps something can be rigged with Tasker to toggle the GPS while opening up Google Navigation, though I'd prefer a simple application with an always on feature so I don't have to worry about it.

[Q] GPS can't find location unlocked htc one x

I have an unlocked htc one x and when I try to find my location using maps, it says current location temporarily unavailable. I have the location services turned on in settings and the GPS satellites option, but it still doesn't work. If anyone could help, that be great. Thanks!
Did you try rebooting

Are you using a different ROM other than stock? Are you outside or by a window? Did you try another app? Need a bit more details please.
Try the Play Store app GPS Status & Toolbox. Install and open the app. On the app's main screen, you will seen on the circular display, "dots" for any satellites that the phone can track. Below the circular display is a bar graph, with each bar depicting the signal strength for each satellite (should turn green when locked). Let the app do its thing for at least 5 minutes and see if any satellites are being tracked, and how good the signal strength is.
Also, its not clear from the OP:
1) Are you trying to get the GPS to lock on outside? This is the best condition (especially for a first time lock), with a clear view of a majority of the sky. Let it sit for at least 5 minutes.
2) Did it ever work, and now it stopped working?
3) Any recent change, like RUU, or flashed a new radio?
I was outside when I tried to find my location, and I've only tried with google maps. I downloaded the GPS status app and after running, all it says is it can't find my location. I also didn't have any network Internet after unlocking the phone, but I changed the APN settings to be compatible with tmobile if that helps any with this problem.
Try turning update through network and WiFi off. See if it will locate then turn it back on.

Any dots on the circular display of the app, or any bars appearing on the bar graph?
If the GPS is working at all, it should at least be able to track some satellites, even if its not strong enough signal to get a location lock.
If nothing at all, it suggests a hardware issue, or the OS not being able to communicate with the GPS for some reason.
Also, I asked before but didn't get an answer: has it ever worked before, and just stopped working? Or never worked, newly purchased phone, etc.
There was one green circle but no bar graph below. And it hasn't worked since I've had the phone. I purchased it from a friend who upgraded and didn't need the phone.
also have the same issue, my gps doesnt lock to sattallites at all.
Its unlocked and on ARHD 21.0. Sometimes it finds one sattallite (no lock though) so i'm guesing that actual gps hardware isn't dead.

[Q] APK for forced GPS?

I have an employee that I gave an S3 to and use TSheets for clock in/clock out. Tsheets will log GPS at clock in and clock out, even with gps off, BUT it cant do the 10 minute intervals. Employees little son keeps screwing with the phone and every couple of weeks I have to turn the GPS on manually. So, my question is, is there an app or rom or work around that will either hide the gps button after its activated or force gps to stay on.
If this is in the wrong section, my apologies.

I think the best and easiest way to do this is kick the SHI,, out of the little son..just kidding, lol. OK the solution is down load this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thinkyeah.apphider and hide settings and map app.
ill try it. GPS is considered an App then?

GPS is system service, MAP is an app which can redirect to GPS to enable it, so you need to hide settings for GPS and MAP app. Open the hide app and tab on the Add(+) button, select Settings and Map then tabl save. Done.
Edit: There is another way where you could use app lock, which can be found in the market, I haven't try any so if you run into issue I need to take a look.

Location icon constantly in status bar on Lollipop ?

Is it normal for the GPS status icon to always be present in the right side of the status bar on Lollipop (V5.02)?
Location is enabled and is set to high accuracy. No apps are running (or present in the recent apps list) that make constant use of the GPS (IE: Maps).
I'm curious if this is normal behavior on this device. I have 3 other devices to compare to that have the same apps and location settings :
- Galaxy S3 -- Icon is always present when location is enabled (Android 4.4)
- Nexus 5 -- Icon only appears when an app requests use of the GPS (Android 5.1.1)
- Nexus 9 -- Icon only appears when an app requests use of the GPS (Android 5.1.1)

It does not turn off automatically unless you are running an app to do so. My battery saver app lets you specify a list of apps that need gps...when I run the app it turns on gps...when the app exits it turns gps off. There is also a free version of it..search for "Greeenpower"...it does require root for an app to toggle gps under lollipop.
Thanks for the reply but I didn't think that applied to Android V4.x and UP.
You are supposed to be able to keep your location toggle set on ON all the time and Android is supposed to only enable it when an app requests it.. I can clearly see this behaviour on both my Nexus devices running lollipop.
Since this phone is as close to stock android as I've ever seen I'm wondering if anyone else is observing the same behaviour I am or if else might be keeping it forced on unknowingly.

Well no offense but yours must be magic then cause I own both a nexus 4 and 5 and the gps doesn't turn off unless you or an app turns it off...same with bluetooth and wifi for that matter.

I don't think he means it turns off in the settings. But the location active icon in the status bar only comes on when an app is actively using it. My nexus 4 does this. The idol the icon is always there.
IMO, its probably just a software GUI change that Alcatel did. Unless it is draining the battery more than usual.
Non taken .. LOL..
Bluetooth and Wifi, when on do constantly show up on my nexus devices..
Location icon however, on stock lollipop will only appear when the GPS actually is in use. IE: It will appear when I load up google maps and disappear when I turn it off (on stock 5.1.1 on nexus 5 and 9).
I thought this was a feature baked into lollipop which is why I was asking. But from I'm hearing it's not.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply.. much appreciated.
BTW:
Looks like it's default behavior on at least one other device:

Maybe there is a secret Chinese system app that is continually tracking you with location? Haha
I was concerned about this too, and looked into it, I can 100% confirm that it's a software change. On the stock Idol 3 ROM, the location icon in the task bar merely shows that location is on, NOT THAT GPS is active.
If you're skeptical, download a GPS monitor app (some available without root, better ones available with root). You can confirm for yourself that the GPS monitor pings each and every time you use a location-based app (map, weather, etc), but not otherwise, even though the location icon is on.
It's constantly on for my Idol 3, but not my Moto X with CM 12.1.
A fix for this problem, if you have Xposed installed:

Very nice! Thanks for creating the module! Out of curiosity do you get the popup every time you install an app or module to select whether to install to internal, external or let the system decide?

Yes, I do. If I remember correctly, this started to happen around the time of the last update from Alcatel?

Thanks for the reply. Nice to know it's not just MY phone. On my 6045i it's been happening quite a while if not from the beginning but it's very annoying as I have not yet found a way to disable it. Even running "pm set-install-location" from a shell doesn't stop the popup. Normally the setting would be under settings, apps or settings, storage but doesn't appear to be.
I'd compare this to some manufacturers adding an NFC icon. They think the user wants to know (all the time) if a setting is on or off.
the icon appears for me always; even after I turn location OFF in the settings...
so is it a bug or is it on purpose?
i've noticed if you turn off the location and then back on, the icon doesn't show up until something does request location, but then after that the icon stays there forever
ps. i'm glad i found this thread i thought i was going crazy
Thanks for the module.

Please, could you suggest an app for GPS monitoring? I'm on a Xperia M4 Aqua Android 5.0.2 and facing the same problem. It's driving me crazy...

compass problems

So I have noticed that the compass on my Pixel is always inaccurate unless I open Maps first. For example if I open a simple compass app (have tried several) it will always be off by a good bit. If I open Maps, compass directions are correct and if I then go back into a compass app the orientation will then be correct. I've done the calibration "twists" repeatedly but it has not helped and as far as I can tell I think my location settings are set to high. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Not a huge problem but it has made me worry that something is wrong with my phone.
