[Q] Custom Dual Core Logo - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What's the easiest way to customize the Dual Core logo?

There is no easy way. It may not even be possible. The Logo partition is locked. Only way is with modified sbf. We tried for about a week and couldn't get it. But its on the to-do list.

Thanks for the quick answer
Hopefully someone will fiqure it out
Love your kernel and rom
Keep up the good work
Thanks

[REQ] Dual boot different roms

Ok, so I'm gonna request tough one. Probably possible though.
Is there a way to dual boot rom's?
Say, I wanna use fresh's rom and then reboot and boot into evolution's froyo rom.
Is there a way to select which rom i want to boot into on the boot up?
Is this device even able to support this? How much space are we working with for the device itself?

You'd have to partiton the memory and then devise some sort of boot selector... A much more feasible solution is just to create nandroid backups of each ROM in a stable and set up state.
I figured as much... I guess I would need to have a need to dual boot.
But, the challenge is still out there
Not dual boot but you could just dual nandroid.
thats what i do. takes 3 min to back up and then restore the other
Anyway we could get a write up to do a dual nandroid setup?
while, making 2 nandroid backups, and restoring to which ever you choose to use, a dual backup system would be cool. but i'm guessing that would take some sort in the firmware??
Here is your request being granted....
Here is the link for unCoRrUpTeD Dual Boot V1
I hope this answers your request.

[ROM] CyanogenMod 6.0rc1-coburnrom - Milestone Port project

Project Description
This is a project to port the Droid version of CyanogenMod to the milestone. While the Droid and Milestone devices are twins, they are CDMA and GSM respectively. Hacks include not flashing the boot image provided by the CM Droid package and some GSM configurations.
Status
CyanogenMod 6 RC1 (with CoburnROM hacks) will flash successfully, however it will refuse to boot (possibly due to incompatible stock kernel or that the milestone doesn't like unsigned ROMs). So far, flashing works from koush's ClockWorkMod Recovery and Open Recovery 1.14. When rebooted, the device hangs on the M Boot logo.
Downloads
PoC/RC #1: Download from my blog, Geek In The Family - 75MB.
What you can do
Pretty much this ROM is currently a playground, if you want to have a poke around, download a copy of the above versions of the ROM and extract it, and then poke around and see what makes it tick.
Other notes
Space saved for future use.
Cheers!
Reserved for future use

Good luck man, I really hope this happens
You should check with the guys on and-developers.com, and their IRC channel #milestone-modding on Freenode for any progress on the bootloader
Hacking the bootloader is impossibile on our Milestone, the TI OMAP chipset runs in High Security mode and for switching to General Purpose mode you have to desolder and resolder the OMAP chipset on your mainboard, soldering the right pins for enabling the GP mode.
Anyway, 2ndboot can make us able to boot a different kernel (for now GSM modem is unusable, so we can't use the phone with the new?y booted kernel) and this is the way that we'll take on the Milestone for using a custom kernel.
No custom ROMs. Or at least not this way.
We'll NEVER be able to boot this ROM.

My my, that's negative. I do know about the custom kernel via kexec/2ndboot trick.
Nothing is impossible to be hacked, it's a matter of time and blood, sweat and tears. As Paul from MoDaCo stated, nothing is impenetrable.
I'll get this ROM booting, even if I have to wait a year or two before the Boot loader is hacked or a proper method is working.
Good luck to you. I commend you for your efforts.
After 1 year waiting for the bootloader to be hacked...I am slightly skeptical. However, now that the Droid X has been released to the masses with the same locked bootloader, we might get some fresh eyes to look into this matter.
I would be happy enough with a custom kernel running on 2nd boot ;-)
SenseUI Mod
Hello, You might try using the mot_boot_mode file, which is also used with the SenseUI Port for the Milestone, I guess that would make this boot too? If I'm right, this is the boot sequence:
This is what I'm talking about:
"the ramdisk is located in /system/ramdisk.tar folder, it all starts here.
the ramdisk is opened by /system/bin/mot_boot_mode."
You should download the SenseUI Mod and analyse it's way of booting.
Good luck!

the problem is not about being negative but you are facing it the wrong way .
the problem here is to hack the thing not to port an already existing mod .
Once the bootloader is bypassed they ll be hundreds of real ROMS .
Anybody can pretend at porting there own roms it is completely IRRELEVANT since it wont be possible until its hacked.
you said it 'even if I have to wait ' well there you go do like thousands of others and just wait . BUt please dont pretend at anything else , thank you .
I am actually porting the ROM to the Milestone, in case if you're concerned that I'm lying. Check my twitter for progress reports.
@Mikevhl we may have a hope if we try that! Thanks for the recommendation!
Also, kexec is working. However, instead of rebooting Android with the Droid CM6 Kernel, it just reboots the phone instead. I'm working on a possible fix for that, thank Kiljacken for compiling the kexec module.
So you're not going with that 2ndboot method?
In any case, my eyes are glued to your twitter account

dude your my hero
It's kinda off-topic, but I just thought, why don't we go 4chan style on Motorola, and, for example, black fax local Motorola offices or something?

As I said, it IS possible to skip the BL checks, and it's fully hackable...but...I know.... you don't want to resolder your OMAP....
if this mod is "Droid" based, you need to make many modifications to the startup..
the Droid is in no way protected, where Milestone has GSM radio protected, and specific drivers required to open it, which for now only opens when using the original "init" process of a milestone.. the "init" from droid disables radio completely..
but take a look on how i got the senseui port running.. i got the froyo partly running the same way, so im sure my solution used in senseui mod will help you along to make it work...it just requires some debugging and "adb logcat" so you at least can see what happens at startup..
why not work together dexter? i think this may help out in particular cases

I never said you were lying all I said was dont pretend ' about rom ' when even a basic kernel wont run .
if you have a workin kexec would you mind sharing it ?
I'm very interested in your work since it seems that we will never see an official 2.2 from Motorola... I don't know if we are going to have the new update, here in France (2.1 update 2).
Well, I just have a question. On a french forum, someone posted a method to downgrade the ROM of the Milestone by implementing the right version of the bootloader in it, I don't know if I very clear. This member had some major problems with the 2.1 update so he decided to downgrade to 2.0.1. However he wasn't able to do it because his Milestone was using the 90.78 bootloader while the 2.0.1 rom was using the 90.73 bootloader. Eventulally, he managed to install the 2.0.1 rom on his Milestone by putting the 90.78 bootloader in the 2.0.1 rom.
So my question is : will it be possible put a bootloader in a custom rom in order to make it boot on the Milestone ?
(I would give you the link for the topic on the french forum once my account si verified)

Actually this is a wrong assumption. HS chip cannot be turned to a Generag purpose.
For those who are interested, here is kexec.
Devs should know the drill, insmod kexec.ko etc etc.
Originally made by Kiljacken (compilation, etc), shared by me.
As for the Android 2.0.1 on Boot Loader 97.73, he may have just made a custom update zip that nukes the system partition and installs 2.0.1 on the device.
Also, I updated my Boot Loader to 90.78ch, which is the XT702 Boot Loader - no bricks. Yet.

[Q] Dual boot on Atrix2

Hi,
I saw the below guide for dual boot on Atrix4G.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645664
I followed the procedure on Atrix2 and failed.
The partitions are named/mounted differently in init.rc
Can someone port this and make dual boot possible on Atrix2?
Thanks,
Kmosh.
And while your at it an easily installable cm9 and unlocked bootloader would be great. In fact, I'm gonna need you to come in on Saturday. OK? Great.
LoL

That was done almost 6 moths ago, and it is in the dev section, it was called safestrap, do a search. It was abandoned due to many issues, so it was deemed a only valid for testing ROMs.
Otherwise no other way to dual boot an Atrix2, and we can't port that particular process.
Is there a reason you want to dual boot something? Really dual booting is only a good thing for a developer testing a ROM they are working on. Everyday use of dual booting a phone, does not help usability at all, actually makes it more of a pain, that was another reason we abandoned safestrap over here.

looking for Dev phone SCH-R740C Samsung Galaxy Discover

Hello all,
I'm looking for a Dev phone, something that can be broke for a couple of days while I'm trying to create custom roms/firmwares etc, and something that won't leave me without a phone if I brick it. If anyone is willing to donate a SCH-R740 to a rookie developer I will do my best to get CyanogenMod 9 and 10 ported to this device, as well as maybe a few custom firmwares.
I won't make promises, but I've been having some success, I've successfully ported CWM with pre-built kernel to the device, so there is a bit of a glimmer of hope.
If your willing to donate a phone to this my project please send me a private message.

I have do have one. Its soft bricked. Stuck on the boot screen

Cool, before you agree to donate if you can get to bootloader you should be able to derrick via odin flash

Sorry, just re-read my reply, I'd be more than happy to accept a softbricked phone as a donation as a dev phone, I would like to let you know however, that since you can get into the boot loader there are enough resources currently available that you should be able to de-brick the phone yourself if you wished to press it back into service...

Hello CowboyEnvy:
Not sure if you still need this model phone for a donation but I happen to have one that is already rooted with ckockwork mod and super su installed. Just has a stock rom with a little trimming on the programs that originally came with it. All I can say is that you pay the cost to get it to you and its yours, otherwise, being homeless and no work, the best I can offer you.
Thread closed, XDA is not a place to "beg" for Dev Phones...

[Q] New to rooting and XDA! So hi! :D few questions...

Alright, so I'm pretty new to all of this. I've read the threads here for probably 2 years, and finally decided to join because I rooted my phone. It's rather old to be honest my phone. It's a Samsung Galaxy Gio. Gt-S5660M (Canadian) (M). Well anyways due to it being a Samsung phone, and my phone having stock kernel. I believe that's how it is. Plus it having the stock rom, but bing rooted, the files for startup animations are called - "samsungboot.qmg" , They all have that suffix of .qmg . So its made trying to understand how to implant a new boot animation rather difficult. Should I root my phone to a different version in hopes that it changes the system files and no longer requires a qmg. File but rather can utilize a bootanimation.zip file instead? I could be completely off, mainly the reason I am assuming this is becausemost pre-made animations are built in a .zip format. Well any help would be much appreciated, I'd like to learn as much as possible about what is possible and can be achieved. Or how to change that animation would suffice. . Currently running GB 2.3.4 rooted. If any specs are needed I'd be glad to share. Even images of the system folders if it helps anyone in aiding me.
You have to use ODIN
You have to use ODIN, look for it on the search pane.-:silly::good::cyclops:
Alright, that would make sense!

But, still though, I will have to take a look into it, what exactly will I be doing in odin? Does it convert file format, or am I changing my phone's OS again? Having to use Odin is better than me being in the dark, but I'm just curious as to how it helps with my problem. Thank you for your reply however. Hopefully you can help me work through this. -.-

Well, my phone is already rooted... I had a rather specific question about getting a custom booting animation... And then wanted to know how exactly Odin would aid me with that.
