(Q) Any way to get back to stock? - Samsung Infuse 4G

I've tried it all. Red cwm errors out when I try to delete data.
3e won't format my phone to stock either.
Odin won't recognize my device at all.
Thing is... other than recovery it works perfectly. I'm using it now as you can see. Am I stuck on Infused v1.3.2? It's nice and all but... you know.
Thanks.

probably a driver issuue for odin, you can bang your head over that or find a friend with a mac or linux box and use heimdall. mac osx and linux dont use drivers for most usb devices thus eliminating that hassel of device recognition.
what windows version? are you running as admin? what drivers did you install? how? did odin work before? which usb port on the pc?

Funny you say that. I use a mac with boot camp.
Can you elaborate more on the heimdall manuever?
And I had installed kies. Two Usb ports. Running as admin. Odin worked as normal until today.

ok running odin in a vm can be as issue to set up. you might need to manually install the drivers.
http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
this is heimdall, it is an open source alternative to odin and has a mac version. if it is like the linux version you need to launch it from terminal. dont repartition unless you have to, heimdall wants bootloaders for repartition and that is an unnecessary risk. dont use the pit, just extract the pda.tar.md5 and the phone.tar.md5 files from one of the odin packages and flash the cache.rfs dbdata.rfs factoryfs.rfs zimage and modem.bin
disable voodoo first! (requires reboot, takes a while)

oh, is kies running in the system tray? that might prevent odin from seeing the phone.
heimdall is probably better for mac users anyway but closeing kies might be all you need to do.

Should I uninstall kies altogether?

no because it will likely uninstall the drivers with it. you should be able to find kies in the system tray(might depend on the version of kies, im not sure about kies mini) and just right click and close if that is the issue. im not saying it is, it might be something else.

any luck with heimdall? it looks like 1.2 doesnt have the frontend, just the comand line for osx, but 1.1.1 if you scroll down has the gui.

I'm getting an error trying to run this application. Seems like it too requires some behind the scenes work.
And I tried killing Kies with Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) but still no dice with Odin. I JUST used it Saturday to upgrade Infused...I just don't get why it doesn't work now.

Just as a tease...I suppose, I put my phone into Kies mode and lo and behold Odin noticed the phone. Of course, I can't flash in that mode.
I think my phone is doomed. Thank goodness it works at least for all other functions but...what in the world is going on?

Boot Camp is just official apple software to dual boot Windows and Mac Os X.

im not sure if it is needed. but alot of programs ask for it, something makes me think odin or the drivers use it. i may be getting confussed with something else though, also kies may install it.

Windows is finally detecting my phone! Sorta....
I installed that microsoft software as well as Kies. Windows is now saying "Unknown Device has been connected".
And it says the device has malfunctioned and Windows has shut it down.
It seems everyone with the broken red cwm issue fixed it. But I'm trapped still...
And yes, I'm posting from my Infuse still.
Is there a way I can just add the files cwm needs to function?

I think I'm having pretty much the same issue. I'm on Win7x64. Kies installed. I put the phone in download mode, right click and run Odin3 v1.7 as admin, and it doesn't recognize the phone at all. I tried it both with the kies process running, and after killing it.

Yep. That's my story as well. When booted up normally Windows detects it right? "SAMSUNG_ANDROID".
I didn't think to try another usb cord. Hopefully it will work.

New sync cable didn't help. Rebooted several times to no avail. Windows still sees it as a malfunctioned device.

Heimdall Instructions

Hello I see lots of people having problems with odin. So I would like to introduce Heimdall. It's not new but seems to be forgotten. Heimdall is more manual then odin. With heimdall you have to unzip the odin file and put them into the proper spots. They are labeled with the files extensions that should go there. It comes with the drivers heimdall use which is different then odin drivers. Please use heimdall it should work better then odin. Here is the website that will also help http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/ video added too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TgyaUbjcm4&feature=youtube_gdata_player

i gotta say i only use heimdall now, after having various issues with odin (mostly of my own doing)
but really heimdall is a superior tool as you can selectively flash different parts of a tarball and see actually what you are flashing
and if you want to change your boot image (not the boot ani, but what is currently "samsung") you have to flash hacked paramfs which you need heimdall for too
I have not been able to get Heimdall to work yet. I did d/l the file and opened it on my MAC running Snow Leopard but when I tried to run it fails to open and it says its an incomplete install, removed, reinistalled and same issue. I d/l the latest version 1.1.1 from the site you posted, I will try again tonight.

Nope, doesn't work on my MacBook Pro, command line or front-end, with the Charge. I've used older versions of heimdall on my i9000 and my friend's Vibrant without issues.
With the Charge I get "Failed to detect compatible device".
Installed suite, reinstalled suite, rebooted MacBook Pro.
Searching now, but any suggestions appreciated.

Yeah, never been a problem before. Guess I better check it against my old i9000.
I installed the 1.1.1 OSX Suite, which supposedly installs the codeless kext (drivers) per heimdall's home page. Reinstalled it twice. Rebooted twice. Still no go.
Running out of time to screw around with it before work, guess I'll have to play later today.
thank you for the info and the how to video. I will try it tonight. I also have Win7 on my Mac so I can always go that route if necessary. The issue I am having is Heimdall won't actually run at all, it appears to be installing incorrectly or not fully.

Gonna have to find a frickin' windows box to use Odin. Ugh.
Hello Droid Charge users,
I've just released a new Heimdall command line binary (version 1.2.0). I haven't mentioned it really because it's untested, however I've added some functionality to Heimdall that should get your devices recognised. That in conjunction with the new PIT file functionality should mean you're good to go.
As usual the binaries can be download from the official Heimdall page.
Let me know how you go.
Thank you for the release

I appreciate your help, but I feel like we're going in circles.
There are no "drivers" for OS X on the official Web site, unless you mean the kext that is included in the install of the various heimdall versions.
I've already tried version 1.1.1 and 1.2.0 on two different Macs now, and neither one will work with either the front-end (which is what the trick you posted addresses) or the command line. Both Macs can communicate with an i9000 with Heimdall.
So please, which version is working for you? Perhaps something older than 1.1.1?
I may have a screwy Charge, I can't even get Odin on my friend's XP laptop to recognize the Charge (and yes, I am in Download Mode with the yellow android shoveling).
I've literally spent 5 hours on three different computers screwing around with this today. I have never been this unsuccessful or frustrated with an Android phone on Macs, and I'm not noob to Odin or Samsung, I've had i9000 and Vibrant working on all these machines with Odin and heimdall.

You can either use Heimdall in place of Odin, or you can find a Windows machine and use it. Heimdall is much less straighforward than Odin. I know some people have gotten it to work, but most people just find a Windows machine.
its possible to run it in a vm box but I wouldn't use odin in anything but real windows just because you won't brick it if something goes wrong.. heimdall is also an option though I've never used it

I've heard that Heimdall isn't compatible with the Charge. What I wound up doing was installed VirtualBox and XP, and used Odin from there. Worked like a charm.
I'd much prefer a native solution, though.

I'm not saying it won't work only that it didn't work on that one case which is the only time i tried it. And this was back on my Fascinate.

windows not recognizing phone

Ok so I'm not sure what happened here, but my laptop wont recognize my phone. I have windows 7 and the phone is currently running octane. I originally had used odin to set the phone up with the proper boot loaders a while back then used cwm to flash ravers octane. I wanted to go back to stock using the official kj6 that raver posted through odin. When ever i hook the phone in to the laptop it says usb device not recognized. Any ideas or ways to fix this? I tried uninstalling and installing the sgs4g drivers again with no luck.

If it recognized it before, make sure you're plugging it back into the same USB port you previously used. Also make sure the drivers are installed. If they're acting buggy, uninstall them and reinstall them. Downloading and installing Kies Mini (link provided by FB) would insure you get the right drivers installed.
Every time you flash a new Rom, it will probably do that. It depends on your computer. Once you uninstall the drivers, try to run ccleaner from piriform to clean out the registry. Reboot the computer. Then reinstall the drivers using the files from the Bible.

Plug your phone into your computer. Then go into your control panel and under Admin tools open computer managment. click on the device manager extension and find the device/s with the yellow exclamation point. right click and select uninstall. then unplug your phone and install the drivers from the SGS4G Bible and then plug your phone back in and it should work.

Rooting 4.04 stock with a Mac

Has anybody been successful? The previous way using one click only works on 2.3.5. Using heimdall is unsuccessful. Im unable to flash cwm recovery using rom manager. All I have is my imac and I'd rather not have to install Odin and files and somebody else's PC. Any help?
I own both a pc and mac but I rooted mine on 2.3.5 using zerg rush and its rooted ever since. I can't be that helpful but you could always use parallels or VMfusion or even bootcamp to install windows on your mac just for the root.
It's not our model but you can check this as a guideline http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sU-fm6FOyKo
AFAIK, you have to flash CWM and use it to flash Superuser to root any version of Android higher than 2.3.5, but to do that you need Odin, which only works on Windows.
If Heimdall worked with SR we could use that to flash CWM but it doesn't. I had the same problem on Linux. Good luck!

My buddy recently rooted his phone using VMware Workstation 8. If you're going to go that route, just make sure you attach the USB device to the VM, and disconnect it properly before shutting down the system. Overall it was a fairly painless process. And if memory serves me correctly Workstation has a free 30 day trial.

UPDATE: I decided to get another phone through my insurance and received the same phone as of today (3-11-13) so thanks to everyone that helped me it was a greatly appreciated! Thank you very much next time I root I'll make sure to backup everything and pay really close to everything. Thank you all for helping.
Okay long story short my phone (Galaxy S 4G) is stuck on the screen where it shows a Phone, !, and a Computer. I did some research on the Internet and read something saying that this is an alternative Download Mode. Basically, what I am trying to do is Unroot my phone / revering back to stock, but did some dumb things to the point where I am stuck on this screen. I am currently using Odin to do all of this, but Odin doesn't recognize my phone for some odd reason because its been read before. So I did some research and read that I had to uninstall then reinstall some drivers then reboot my computer then do everything again. I did that, but Odin is still not recognizing my phone. I tried plugging my phone in all USB ports of my computer and its still not recognizing my phone. What do you think I should be doing? I definitely need some help and it would be greatly appreciated if any of you can help me.

Well, yes it's in Download mode, but the alternative one with the phone, !, and computer. Also I can't wipe/data factory reset unless theirs a way to get that if so let me know. The version of Odin I am using 1.7, so I tried v1.80 and the latest version which is 3.07. Yes, I have Kies installed with the drivers as well. I also looked into that heimdall one click, but there is too much stuff to do and download that my computer cant handle because it is really old so maybe if there is another way around this that would be helpful other than that I don't know what else to do.
Whatever you did that got it there... was perfect. If you had just flashed it once more when you got to that screen, your phone would have been working ever since.
Now? No clue what you've done with drivers and the like since back then. Try a one-click in a new USB port without installing any drivers?
Does the computer see the device and not Odin or do both see nothing (any beeps ?).
Are you doing the battery drop in while it's connected to the usb? Or booting it (into download mode) then plugging it into computer?
Which Rom are you trying to flash?
Windows should be able to do the one click. Which version (of Windows) are you using?

Look for Gremlin Remover in the dev section. It is an Odin One-Click.

You need Samsung drivers for ODIN.
That pesky kies installs them.

I know. Uninstall it then download fresh ones. Or just plug your phone in again and let it download new drivers.

Odin only recognizes your port only if you actually in the download mode; the one with the picture of the android robot and the word 'downloading.' Here is what you need to do:
1) open Odin program;
2) remove battery from your phone;
3) plug USB cable into computer and your phone;
4) press the up and down volume keys at the same time;
5) As you hold down the volume keys, put the battery back on the phone, and wait for about 3 seconds. You should be able to see the download robot. If it doesn't work, try it again.

It's okay if just decided to get a new phone through my insurance it's fine no need for any of this anymore, but thanks to everyone that helped me. Next time I root my phone I make sure I back up everything that I need!

Well, if you plan to root your new phone in future, you are going to run into this issue again. Backing up the data won't help you get out of this jam. My advice to you is to use your new phone as is; don't try to root or install customize roms <<<---that was a painful experience, but I've mastered the timing to the point it takes only one try now.
If you are a first timer, it is not easy to get into download mode. You have to do a couple of times to get a hang of it. It becomes an art form - just like getting into DFU mode on an iPhone for first time.

I'm wondering why no one told OP to use Heimdall One Click back to stock KJ6...
Its really not that difficult dude! Its scarier than it really is . Trust when we tell you. Its gonna be more time consuming than anything else bout 2 maybe 3 hours ...this includes downloading, deleting, re downloading, connecting, disconnecting, "If u can get Odin to open and running on your old computer. You should be able to get Java, Bhundvens 1 click ..and Or Gremlin remover".!!! Kies is only good if you want the Samsung drivers once you've got your phone back to full fledge stock. If you want to save the $130 its gonna cost you for a phone through (Assurion)that in reality isn't worth buying again your better off using that towards a New phone trust me bro I'm no dev and don't speak they're language Lol (I wish) I personally know from frustrating trial and error! Believe that u can do it and when you do it you'll be like wow that's it!!! Just try being more cautious homez.
