good verizon android phones? - General Questions and Answers

my wife and i are moving to verizon this week and i need to know what solid android phones there are out there. im buying her that droid pro with the keyboard but im coming from the htc evo, so id like another powerhouse.

Try the DroidX - I'm talking last year's model - it's big, fast, was recently upgraded to Gingerbread, AND it's *cheap*. You can probably get the brand new phone for free if you check Amazon and Best Buy.
The DroidX2 - the new model - just came out, so it would cost more but doesn't really bring that much more to the table. From a "bang for your buck" standpoint, I'd rate the Droid X a best buy.

im leaning towards the thunderbolt.

I just got the Thunderbolt and I love it. Are you living in a 4g area?
If you are then there isn't much to offer. Thunderbolt, Charge and an LG.
Theres multiple non-4g phones: X2, htc incredible 2 and the Droid 3 (with a keyboard) will be out soon.
If you had an Evo than the Thunderbolt will be very familiar to you.

my cliq is running great.

the thunderbolt is a beast. Dual core is overkill as of now, seeing as my thunderbolt on CM7 with stock cpu speed posted quadrant scores of 2400. I am coming from the incredible, which was essentially the little brother of the evo. Thunderbolt will definitely be a good choice. Although battery isn't too great.

The battery life on the TB is fine if you root and install custom roms/kernels. It will easily go the whole day with the froyo roms and kernels out there. GB seems to eat more battery, but still better than stock by a mile.

Not a fan of Motorola phones, but the X2 is pretty nice if you don't have LTE in your area.
If you do, then I would go for the Thunderbolt easily. The Charge is nice and fast, but me personally I don't feel it's worth the $250.

Switching to Verizon, which phone should I get?

I have an X10i right now and I LOVE the phone, best phone I have ever used, hands down.
I want to keep an awesome phone, but because of work, I need to have verizon. I was looking at a droid x and a droid 2, I haven't explored outside of the phones that verizon sells though... Which phone do yall reccomend for someone who loves his x10i?
The important things to me are...
A good camera
3.5mm jack
Excellent 3rd party support
Free of any major issues (Aka not the samsung captivate)
Good support for gaming (snes, gba etc)
TFT screen
The Droid Incredible is probably your best choice. It is an amazing phone, despite the horrible battery life that comes stock.
I paid the full price for my phone when it first came out, but nowadays you can get it free if you have an upgrade if you look around.
Since you don't spend any money on the actual phone, I recommend spending money on buying a new battery. If you want to maintain the slim form factor of the phone, get a 1500mah battery. If you want awesome battery life, but a slightly thicker phone, get the 2150.
I would say go for the Droid2 and then download LauncherPro. That or the Samsung Fascinate or Continuum.
I second the Droid Incredible with the 1750mAh extended battery, if you shop around you can get it for $50 total including the extended battery, and it has an excellent dev community.
Droid 2 Global is a better device
this depends on how you use your device, if you don't really care about roms then the d2 is your best choice with the specs you listed. if you really need roms like i do, then your best bet is the droid inc. because it's dev community is growing and the d2 really doesn't have that good of a dev community. If you want the best of both worlds go online and get the d1, it's fast and it has a good dev community
I'm loving the Samsung Fascinate. At least until the Incredible HD rolls out with all it's LTE Goodness
Droid incredible hands down best phone on verizon right now. S-off and soon to have a 2.3 port will make this phone last much longer.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Droid incredible hands down. I have D2 now but so sick of locked bootloader. There are a lot of devs out there for the incredible if you are concerned for dev support.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Droid Incredible for sure. Good-sized screen, thin, superior HTC software, dev community, and that SEXY back. Yummy.
I'm going to have to disagree with the Droid Incredible.
My vote goes to the Droid 2 and the Samsung Fascinate. Droid 2 if you want a keyboard, Samsung Fascinate if you don't.
Droid 2 if you visit out of the country, pretty usefull
Go Droid Incredible or Fasc. I have the Fasc. Its pretty good. But I'd personally wait till Q1 of next year for the HTC Merge
Droid incredible is free at best buy mobile and is arguably the best of the droid series IMO and has a large dev community and plenty of roms
also the samsung fascinate is excellent as long as you plan on rooting it.. the dev community isbt as big yet because of the lack of 2.2 but its still dedicated and you can't go wrong with jts super clean rom
I own both but the lack of roms and 2.2 keep the Dinc. As my main phone

What is currently the BEST Android phone?

Hey guys.
Hope this is the right section to post this.
I am looking for a new phone and it should be running andriod.
One of my options include Samsung Vibrant, but want to explore other phones aswell.
Can someone tell me what is currently the best android phone that is good overall? For music, videos, phone, battery, etc?
It should be able to run 2.2 android, and all the latest upgrades such as 2.3 etc.
Please let me know.
Thanks.
What carrier are you under or are you willing to switch?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Well carrier does not really matter as I will be buying a unlocked version anyway.
Right now I am just concerned more about the phone, then the carrier.
Nexus s. Fastest and will recieve the most updates while being mega feature packed
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Nexus S right now is very expensive, what comes as best after nexus s?
My benchmark speeds on my droid x according to quadrant are just above the nexus one (1391)
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Are there any others, droid seems very big
In my honest opinion MyTouch 4G is the best android phone out right now. The Nexus S is basically a repackaged Galaxy S. The MT4G spanks most phones out there in most benchmarks-look it up.
I keep mine overclocked to 1.8Ghz (ondemand) all day, get amazing battery life, and pull between 2500 and 3000 in quadrant on first run.

Yeah, take a look at some benchmarks, not even close to being the fastest. The Nexus S lost to the MT4G in a bunch of categories, as well as a bunch of other devices. Just because a device is newer and everyone is talking about it does not mean it is better or faster. Hell, the MT4G beat it in a dogfight by Phonedog (of course that is mostly based on opinion though).
Why don't you provide details as to you limits (price, size and carrier) and then we'll be better able to help you make a decision.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Couldn't tell you what's 'best,' but if you are willing to go with AT&T, you can get a swinging deal on the Captivate now through Target Mobile (http://www.targetmobilestore.com/mobile/?referringdomain=bullseyemobilesolutions). I upgraded my wife's ancient RAZR to the Samsung device for $69 and only had to add a $15 data plan to her current setup and a 2-year reup. That's a helluva phone for the money.
nexus S should be the best phone! Most DevĀ“s should be there!
Motorola Droid 2 Global is the best. CPU with highest clock in all android phones there are. yet.
w8 for lg optimus 2x first phone with dual core and ships with 2.2 opr 2.3 i think
G2 baby! Woopwoopwoop
okay
Benchmarks do not mean ****. ask ANY dev. theyre all hacked or ****ed up. I personally think for cdma, the epic. for gsm, the nexus s.

Thunder bolt charge or x2

So I can get a free upgrade and I hour the choice between the 3 phones and I really can't Decide which I've to get 4g will be in my area in august

Go with the thunderbolt or charge and do get it before July 7 th for unlimited 3g/4g unless you already have unlimited 3g

My gf just got a dx2 as a replacement for her fascinate. It's a nice device out of the box. I easily prefer my t-bolt with a nice Rom though. So what I'm saying is if you are looking for a stock experience and don't care about 4g than a dx2 wouldn't be a bad choice. There seems to be little if any developing for the dx2 so it wouldn't be my choice. The dual core isn't as impressive as you might think, although I did notice a little less lag using the camera.

x2 vs Thunderbolt/Charge = apples vs oranges.
I might be biased in saying this but definitely the Thunderbolt

I sell phones at Verizon and I would be lying if I didn't say that I steer people towards the Bolt. That being said I have used all 3 extensively on my down time and my preference really comes down to which has the most support...bolt.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
+1 i agree as a rep my self i do rather like the AMOLED screen on the Charge but the dev community for the thunderbolt is what keeps me going
So what happens when a Verizon rep gets caught on a rooted tbolt?
they dont care as long as we are not promoteing it or even talking about it in store since it technically voids warranty. It is our device we can do what we want with it. i show mine to my bosses all the time and are just shocked at the improvments that have been made to it.
x2 if you don't want/need 4G (but trust me, once you see it, you'll want it). Charge if you prefer amoled display & don't mind Touchwiz & you're not a flash addict. Tbolt if you like to try different roms & kernels. Among the 3 phones you listed, the Tbolt dev community is most active

look at the speedtest in my sig. That is all the upgrade you need!!!
Faced with a similar decision and went with the bolt. Thrilled that I did. Great dev community and love the phone. 4g when I have it is sweet. Family members just got the x2 and in comparison to my bolt with Th3ory on it, the x2 feels wicked slow even with 2 cores behind it
If you don't care about rooting and different roms get charge. That display is gorgeous! Otherwise bolt. Forget about a 3G phone...
X2 was outdated before it came out. no 4g.
now if you really want a huge community go with thunderbolt
if you really reallly like touchwiz go for the charge
oh and if your afraid the thunderbolt isnt an update from the incredible? you'd be sorely mistaken. I used to have the incredible and this is so much better. processor is much stronger (can oc to 1.9) and the ram on this makes it run smooth as butter.
I personally think the Thunderbolt is a gorgeous phone. Loved it since the moment I got it. 4G everywhere allows me to download any new ROM's (200+ MB) in a matter of minutes. Community is damn near booming. Its a great phone, definitely will be sticking with it for a long time.

I went with the last week when my girlfriend and I moved to our own plan. Took it back 2 days later and got the thunderbolt... Best Decision Ever.. lol
Charge honestly felt like a downgrade from my Droid X... even with the 4G
Thunderbolt feels sturdy, charge... not so much
Charge screen is definitely more "vivid" but I feel that the thunderbolts screen was a step up from the droid x..
So while the Charges screen was pretty nice.. thunderbolt is still enough for me..
As far as battery life goes.. I know I only really had the charge for a day.. but compared to my first day with the thunderbolt the phones were relatively equal for me
In the end.. i say tbolt... but its all in personal preference.. never played with an X2

[Q] Need help deciding which phone to get.

I'm looking to buy a new phone sometime in the near future, but thought I would get some feedback from you all here. I have a HTC Droid Eris now which I hate, and been having problems with flashing ROMS and a bunch of other things. Anyways, to the point.
I'm looking at a few different one's right now.
1) Thunderbolt
2)Motorola Droid Bionic
3)Samsung Galaxy S2
?) LG Revolution
Just would like feedback from you all please.
Thanks for all your time and comments.
By far galaxy s 2 is the all around best. What provider?

It will be Verizon.
Yeah, the gsII blows the other phones away. If money isn't much of an issue and you can wait a couple (?) months, then definitely go for the gsII.
Yup. Word around the blogsphere is that US will be getting 1.4 ghz gs2's. Bionic might be nice if it comes out soon. Revolution isn't so great. And thunderbolt has awful battery life.

If u want to try to stay with HTC, then the Sensation rocks big time!
Phone
Thanks all. I think I can wait a few months and maybe thrown the cash out, maybe an work a deal for a new 2 year agreement for the G S2. Anyone have an idea as to when it's coming out and the $$$?
If your decision are stuck with Verizon on caming July new plan hhmmm. LG revolution is best

You think so? i don't have battery issues with my bolt as long as I plug it in on my way to work, while at the office, on my way home, overnight.....
If I don't go for the galaxy s2, which would be the next best phone to get with verizon?
Samsung's great -- as long as you don't have to use KIES (which is only good for firmware updates IMO -- at least, that's the only thing I use it for); I'm happy with every Samsung device I own (smartphone, tablet, television, a few other things)
Gonna be several HOT new phones by years endl.
I keep reading about several new phones due this year. Most promise to beat anything we have now. I love my Eris running GSB 3.6. Only thing slow about it is loading web pages, other than that it is a great little phone.
I'm still up in the air on which phone to get if any suggestions after the Samsung G2
Hey guys & gls
I'm Sprint premium customer. now time to change my EVO 4g which one is best from EVO 3D or Motorola photon ?
I know a both phones have dual core . Please I need help to decided
Thank you in advance

if you want to pay get the galaxy s2
Samsung galaxy s2 is great.
i would go for s2 on phone with dual core processor or thunderbolt if you live in 4g zone
++ Samsung Galaxy S2 ... it's lovely.
So far I'm using Galaxy S, and I'm loving this machine, if I had money, I've defenitivly buy SGS2.
I think it will between the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Motorola Droid Bionic, but need to get better reviews and comparisons when they both are out.

Droid 3 vs thunderbolt

I'm looking to join Verizon very soon, but I need to take the cheap way out. Verizon currently has two free phones, the Droid 3, and the HTC thunderbolt.
My question to you, fellow xda-ers: pros and cons on both of them. Both phone will be rooted, go.

The D3's development is finally picking up with bypassing the bootloader. The keyboard is superb, it's fast and smooth, also the camera takes crisp pictures.
Ive never used a Thunderbolt so I can't comment on that device.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
With the TBolt you get more current development and 4g, though it is definitely not the most loved phone out there for tweakers. With the D3 you get a great keyboard, strong hardware, but development that is just now picking up. If I were choosing between those two though I'd get the D3. That's actually what I'm considering as something to get me by until a 4G device that I like comes out.

That's somewhat what I'm thinking as well, although I love sense and HTC products, most every Droid I've used is just flawless. My only concern is, is the tradeoff from craftsmanship and a growing development community worth losing out on 4g lte?
Sent from my LG-MS690 using xda premium
How long are you planning on having the phone for? Development isn't really too amazing on either phone right now so you might want to take the baseline features like 4G into account pretty heavily. Though VZ has been screwing TBolt owners over pretty hard in terms of actually getting ICS out, it should come eventually which will mean much easier development of ICS Roms. The D3 faces the same issues as I've seen with the D2 in that devs have to create their own drivers for the Camera, Wifi, and other basic features. For me I can deal with the D3 if it comes to that because it will only be a temp phone for me so if it gets developed great, and if not I'll survive. If you're going to keep yours for two years the TBolt might be the way to go.
I'll just tell you this though: both phones were pretty much DOA and are both cautionary tales when it comes to looking at Motorola or HTC for purchases. No one is perfect but both phones were touted as flagship models more or less and then left in the dust. Aside from me looking at a D3 as a stopgap I have zero plans to ever buy another Moto device and I'm quite leery about HTC. With the exception of the Rezound they haven't offered much of worth on the VZ end.
It would probably be around 6 months that I have the phone. I get very tiresome of phone after about four months, with the exception of a few of my previous devices (evo 4g, and mytouch 4g)
Sent from my LG-MS690 using xda premium
Do you honestly only have free as a price point option? There are some seriously badass phones out that aren't too expensive. The Incredible LTE just came out, it's running ICS and Sense 4.0 natively and also has the S4 chip, same as the Galaxy S3 and HTC One series (US Versions). Costco has it for $60 right now.
Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
If you're looking to join Verizon, aka new customer, there's much much better phones for you on Amazon.
The Nexus, Rezound, Droid 4, all at one point and could be still were under $100 with a new contract,
My financial situation currently wont allow me to drop any money on a cell phone. I just became a father and moneys tight, only reason I'm joining Verizon is for coverage (compared to metro pcs lol) and I get a 19% discount from my workplace.

Then honestly, I'd wait until you can spend at least $100 and stick with Metro for now.
The two phones in your price range are already horribly outdated development and specs wise and if you're going to be locked in, I'd want a better phone than those two for a long term period of time.
Unless your MetroPCS experience is that bad, my advice is just wait until you can put together some funds.
My thinking is I get a free one, and eventually ill upgrade. And yes, my metro experience sucks lol. I get absolutely no reception at either of my workplaces, and home.

Get the GNexus because it's the only phone that will most likely keep receiving os updates until android 8.3. Srsly, you don't have to worry about future updates with that phone.

Glad you like it. On stock 2.3.4 the best thing you can do is root using Motofail and then freeze bloatware as there is a bunch. After than the phone will run much smoother. No official ICS for this phone, but with the recent Kexec progress having a stable ICS/JB ROM is looking more like a reality.
Guess I won't be joining the D3 party as apparently I still have full coverage replacement on my D2. Just hoping it doesn't come with 2.3.4 already on-board. Glad things worked out for you though Dubs.
