Hello,
I'm having some questions regarding a VPN connection, namely the fact that it seems to close it down quite fast. I have configured a PPTP VPN on my TyTN.
When I now connect to my mailserver (using Pocket Outlook), it first connects to the VPN (both when I'm using wifi or gprs/umts), and then connects to the mailserver. However, when I then choose to download a mail message, it reconnects to the VPN (which takes quite a lot of time).
Similarly, in Pocket Internet explorer, the VPN is also re-established when moving from one site to another.
Even worse, is that in Skype, the VPN connection is not seen as a wifi connection (so it says it cannot connect). I can circumvent this by first launching Pocket Outlook or Pocket Internet Explorer, which opens the VPN. Skype can then use the connection, but the VPN is closed after 30s (if when in the middle of a conversation!).
None of these problems occur on a laptop connected to this VPN. I'm guessing there is something on the TyTN that causes the VPN to be shut down. I have tried setting up a website that refreshes every 20s to keep the VPN open, but it doesn't prevent it from closing (and it doesn't reopen a closed VPN).
Is there a way of keeping a VPN open ?
(either by a registry hack - some timeout setting, or by some 3rd party software)
Thanks!
Jörg
I've had one of these for a while now and mostly it works a treat. I'm having problems surfing the web on it though.
I can connect to the internet using Virgin's setup for 'GPRS/3G' (HSDPA), and it transfers data ok, cos that's the only way it can feed the GPS software that needs it. The browser works too, when I connect to the internet in a wifi hotspot. But when I use the browser otherwise it makes the HSDPA connection ok, which shows up as connected, but no web page loads. I even tried it in Opera, nothing happens. Any ideas gratefully appreciated.
I have a WIFI Xoom with a huawei 3G USB Modem which I have setup to work with my Xoom [ICS-CM9], but I noticed that only some apps can use the internet when connected thru it.
Example, Dolphin browser can browse the internet fine but none of the google apps can (Market, Gmail etc) + my tablet says "No internet connection" probably because i have disabled WIFI. But it seems I am missing something here.
Can anyone guide me on how does Android connection manager detect whether internet is available/not available?
TIA
A510 connected to router, can easily access files stored on lan, but I can't open any webpage ("Webpage not available", same with gmail or facebook). If I conect my HTC Desire over wi-fi to the same network, internet surfing works without any problem. I also tried connect to other network, turn off - on tablet but nothing new.
I am sure that yesterday it worked ok, but after that was only using lan connection.
Last night I have rooted tablet (using simple method), installed SuperUser, then TitaniumBackup, Asphalt, GTA3 and Kineticalc (from mobilism) and at the end tried to use cifmanager (without any success). I do not know if anything there make something wrong.
What to do?

Now I made reset under settings and at first boot it asks to sign in to google but I can not do that since network connection is still not working
Ive tried a few apps that didnt connect properly after bieng on another network for some time, particularly apps that needed authentication like Dropsync, and I sorted it by having my tablet connect to the internet through my mobile data connection. I dont know if your HTC Desire has that, but on my Sensation I just started mobile data and wifi hotspot, connected my Tab to it and was able to get online with any app on the tab. When switching back the Tab to my home wifi, everything worked as it should.
Might be a dns reset issue, that the Tab is forced to do on connecting to another network, it has to, but I cant say for sure that this trick will help you..
Sincerely

I got the phone in December and I haven't had a problem. I use the standard Xfinity router and all my other wireless devices are unaffected. All of a sudden the Facebook and YouTube apps will not work properly. I can navigate to these sites on Chrome no problem. Watching a video on YouTube or loading my news feed via the apps just doesn't work. If I turn Wi-Fi off the apps work fine, it's just over WiFi. Also I have uninstalled the updates to these apps and it did nothing.
