For everyone like me thats having trouble with Super One Click freezing during root, you can also root your phone by installing GINGERBREAK on your phone.
Gingerbreak.apk can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
1. Download the latest version from your phone or PC.
1a. If you download from your PC, adb install or just copy to your sd card.
2. Make sure you have Unknown Sources and USB Debugging checked in Settings>Applications
3. Browse to the file using any file explorer and install.
4. Open the app and just click ROOT.
5. Let it do its work and reboot. Once back up, you will be rooted
ENJOY
Devs if this has already been posted and i missed it, feel free to remove or close this thread.
Has anyone had success using this on G2X? I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere or on the gingerbreak thread. Thanks.

Yes, although it is just easier to use the one click method and have the latest custom kernal from noob, and you get 8.2 MFLOPS.
Oh, and don't try to install the lag fix because the partitions to ext are different, and there is no reason too.
EDIT: Also you should change the title to One Click Lag Fix- Root Method? because I believe there is already a thread named similar to this one.

EDIT: You can also just flash THIS by attn1 to accomplish the same goal.
The update for 1.84 for the Inspire 4G was released on 4-29-2011 as an OTA update. It WILL NOT RUN on rooted ROMs.
Things I have personally observed about this ROM:
Quick. Seems to respond very well to input, no real hesitations. I won't tell you quadrant scores because they are useless.
GPS WORKS! Exceptionally well. 3-6 FOOT accuracy. The highest TTL I have seen is 17s.
Fast. HSUPA is working well, 1.3mbps up. I hit 6mbps down on a regular basis with this ROM. YMMV, of course. But it works great here in North Texas.
Third party non market Apps install. Yes, you read that right. There is no selector to turn it on or off, though. They work for me. YMMV.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR PHONE, COMPUTER, PLACE OF RESIDENCE, OR PETS.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prerequisites:
S-Off HTC Inspire 4G with microSD card inserted (HOW TO thanks to attn1)
RUU to stock 2.2.1 v1.80 (Located here thanks to cmstlist)
Gingerbreak v1.2 (From Chainfire) loaded on your SD Card
The OTA update note: place in /sdcard/download. This method is untested.
Sideload Wonder Machine if install of Gingerbreak does not work.
A valid Wi-Fi connection
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Follow these steps to achieve a rooted 2.2.1 v1.84 stock ROM
1. RUU your phone to stock following instructions provided in the above thread using the pd98img.zip method, NOT THE .EXE!
2. Boot phone, don't bother adding any accounts or setting anything but a wifi connection up.
3. Go to Settings, choose AT&T Software Update, then choose HTC Wi-Fi Software Update.
4. Download and install
5. Boot phone into updated stock ROM.
6. Install Gingerbreak v1.2 and run it. It will crash HTC Sense launcher, force close it, then you will see an error saying it could not reboot phone. Reboot manually using power button. If it gives you a weird error on boot such as a picture of a phone and a red mark, pull the battery then reboot.
7. ROOT! Yes, you now have root. Verify superuser.apk is in your app drawer, then I strongly recommend installing busybox from the market.
8. Install ROM Manager from the market and flash ClockworkMod Recovery. I have had no issues with 3.0.2.6.
That's it, done! I have had a couple small FC's from SU when first granting permissions to an app, to fix it open the actual superuser app then go back to the offending program. Once granted permissions this should not occur anymore.
I hope this helps!
If I missed anyone in the thanks above it was purely unintentional. PM me and I will correct the oversight.

a little "birdie" told me that at&t is rolling this out to 10K users a day for the first three days, then evaluating the results and - assuming all goes well - will bump up to 25K-50K users on 5/2, and then 50K users a day until done beginning 5/3 or 5/4. don't know for sure, though, if this is why you're having to wait for 1 more day.

If you downloaded the update prior going back to stock Un-rooted, then you need to either format you SD card or use another one. When I went back to stock, the update didn't show up for me, but as soon as I changed my SD card, the OTA came right up after I prompted for an update.

I wouldn't much worry about updating to this if your phone is rooted. Soon enough someone will have a rooted and CWR Flashable version of this. With so many good roms and Devs here I assume it wont be long.

This is true. Do you mean the one by shabbypenguin/Chris378? Yeah, that is pretty cool. An automated guide that holds your hand though the whole process is way easier than a list of downloads and instructions that says "Read carefully, because if you do something wrong, your phone will explode."

This is only for rooting the NS4G (d720) using windows. Even though it is a semi-automated process, it is still a good time for being anal about reading carefully and performing each step exactly as described.
Edit: Oh, and read the readme first.
So, I realised there was guides on how to root our phone but not one on how to un-root(completely).
Here it goes.
1)Your phone must be rooted.
2)Download Z4Root(Note that you should never root your phone with z4root)from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
3)Install Z4Root on your device.
4)Download SuperOneClick from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
5)Settings>Applications>Check Unknown Sources(In your phone)
6)Settings>Applications>Development>Check USB Debugging
7)Open SuperOneClick(Make sure that you have all of your device's drivers installed on your pc)
8)Click 'Driver Check'(Just to make sure there is no issues with your drivers.)
9)Open Z4Root and click un-root.(On your phone)
10)Connect your phone to your pc.
11)In superoneclick, click un-root.(Ignore if it says you do not have superuser at the end)
12)Unplug your phone from the pc.
13)DONE!!
Optional: You may install a app from the market called root checker(Free) to check that your phone is completely unrooted.
The main purpose of me posting this guide is because if you just un-root your device from superoneclick, it will only uninstall root and not busybox(also known as incomplete un-root). This guide will help you completely unroot your device(Uninstall both root access and busybox).
I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone but will help you with all my knowledge.
You may post any enquiries below or any other thing you would like to see in the future.
Hit the 'Thanks' button if I have helped you out.
U can also do this by super one afaik.

Talking about Gingerbread, how will one root it?
SuperOneClick is not working for me.
So for me cwm or cf-root is the saviour.
So if I use cwm or cfroot, then I will probably remove root via cwm.
pls no unroot in z4root coz i cant find it
it works great but :good::good:,, it doesnt remove cwm and tweaks..??
how to remove them both.?
