issue when attempting to run simple one click - HTC Inspire 4G

i attempted to run http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406
and halfway through the process it stopped. it went up to the point of installing the update of pd98img.zip and it just stopped. so now my phone has been downgraded to 2.2 and it thinks its a desire. HELP!!!

Did it make it to the S-OFF step? Check top of HBOOT screen. If it says S-OFF, then your fine and probably just need to manually flash clockworkmod recovery to load a custom rom.

You could start over again then, or if you're comfortable with linux and command line stuff, you could try and manually run gfree and get S-OFF, then move on. This link shows all the steps:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=AT&T_Inspire_4G:_Rooting
You can skip down to "Gaining Temporary Root Access" and follow those steps. gfree is the tool that does the actual work of obtaining S-OFF which is the most important step in the rooting process, but it only works with a specific kernel/radio combination, hence the need to downgrade first.
I've never used Bubby's method, but have used the ace hack kit. I'm pretty sure you could use it to finish up too as it runs in a step-wise fashion so you could pick up and go from the downgrade point. Grab it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
Attn1 also has an IRC chat node where there are always a lot of knowledgeable people willing to help you through the process in real-time:
http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#liberatedAria

Yea I'm not familiar with Linux. I think.my best bet will be to just start from the beginning. Reinstall everything and hopefully that will work.

If you already have a gold card, use the ace hack kit. It is quicker and easier, especially if you already have the gold card. I was planning on using the one click but ended up rooting with the ace hack kit yesterday. The newest version 11 is simplified.

Easiest way to root and enable sideload

Maybe cause I'm use to the captivate but all this stuff seems confusing to me ...like gold card ? And recovery how does one get to recovery ? Etc what is the easiest way to root and enable sideload step by step if possible please

1. Create gold card using a utlility posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970157
2. Use bubby's tool to root your phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406
You should be done in less then an hour
I actually think the hack kit is easier. Plus you don't have to worry about cwm messing up.
I don't see how cwm is messing up? Just try to reflash it until it works. Or use the fix. Do you think rooting the phone with the desire hd method works? The easy one click tool? It includes visionary. Its the same phone, idk why it wouldn't.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Nope the inspire software closes the bug that allowed visionary to work. That's why the goldcard is needed so you can downgrade.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
That seems exsessive. Why reflash until it works when you can just do it once and have it work. Not to mention some people have had to get engineering hboot just to get it to work.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I just wanted to add something about bubby's tool. I used that process to root my phone. Afterward, I could not get the GPS to work at all. So, I reflashed the stock ROM (via SD method) and used SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse to root the device. I have since loaded a Gingerbread ROM, but reloading stock (without losing S-off) fixed the GPS issue for me.
I guess the bigger news, and the point, is that the psneuter rooting process works on this device. I also used SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse to enable non-market apps on the stock ROM.
psneuter works because when you went back to stock you were still S-off.

That is what I was trying to convey in my post. The point really, is that you can skip the manual rooting and just reload the stock rom after the s-off steps. It may be beneficial for some people to know that.
Sometimes I just like to do things from scratch myself. If there was a simple s-off process that reloaded a stock rom, I would think some people would be interested in it. Of course, I realize there is a stock rom with simply root and s-off. In my situation, that rom did not have a working GPS for some reason.
I am sure there will be a point where the whole process gets easier anyway. I believe, at some point, somebody will find a way to get s-off without downgrading first.
I was trying to create my gold card tonight but kept getting card is already being used error after formatting and placing the SD card in my phone. That's what happens when I try to get the CID for the card that is. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

HI, guys you've really helped me with all my previous phones. I currently have an Att inspire, it's not rooted but I want to have access to install apk's on my phone everything else is okay. I know about sideloadwonder but, direct downloads and installs on the phone are even better. Does SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse enable non-market apps. thanks.

I also used this method. First time, I think i soft bricked my phone because I missed a step in the haste and anxiety of the process but got my phone powered back up and took a second try at it and it worked flawlessly. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO FOLLOW EACH STEP TO THE TEE!!!!!

The hack is actually is pretty easy with v11. Literally it is open up the cmd file enter 1, create gold card through the provided link and put into folder, enter 2 let it do its thing and finally enter 3 and let it do.its thing. Took me about 15 min for the whole process.
I then flashed attn1stock Rom, while I read up on which Rom to try out. Capys kingdom Rom looks great but holding off as he works his magic

I used Bubby's 1 click and it is very very easy. All the instructions are clearly detailed out and just follow them to the word. It takes less than 20 mins including formatting the sd card and the gold card creation.
Disabling your anti-virus software is ESSENTIAL. If you don't, your AV will detect the rage file as a trojan and delete it. That means it will not get pushed to the phone and you will not have root access.
I learned that the hard way ;0)
Also, if you don't like to use the phone terminal app, you can get a copy of droid explorer and use the console in that app. You don't need to disconnect anything as it will use another copy of adb to access your phone.
The newest hack kit is easier then ever, I rooted an inspire in 10 mins. No problems

Dude if you're afraid of the hack kit, what's the point in rooting?
If you don't really want to learn adb and basic commands to push files to your phone, then keep it stock and under warranty.
Rooting isn't for everyone, with att it was almost necessary to be able to sideload apps, but that's no more since att got with the program.
I guess all I'm saying is that if you want an easy root, buy a nexus device. For every other device, there is some basic knowledge you MUST have first. Fortunately that's all in the inspire developer forum.
Read!!!!!! Then read some more...
The easiest way will not teach a newbie any of the real benefits of having root. Learn as much as you can, see if its right for you, then make a decision.
I'm not discouraging anyone by any means, I'm just trying to cut down on these pointless threads.
With soooooo many people and their grandmothers rooted now between bubbys and attn1s methods, these threads shouldn't exist unless the hack kit or super one click summons the dark lord chthulu in your basement...

The Hack Kit really is as easy as this...with bubby's method, you have to type in commands in terminal, format your sd card...etc.
Hack kit....no format, copy and paste...send an email...and then type in numbers 1, 2 and 3.
I did it with Bubby's method. I had errors in the terminal commands with the AceHack method. Dont skimp on the microSD card, get a high quality one. I had trouble with the stupid HP brand card while making the goldcard, it kept corrupting when I changed it from USB mode to charge only. Had to find a HP format tool to format it which took hours to do! After that its fine, just make sure you have plenty of time and do not rush.

Needless to say, you aren't following the instructions to a tee, or your goldcard was created improperly.
When you are in hboot, does it say "s-off" anywhere? I ask because I'm trying to ascertain what point in the process you have completed.
Please be as detailed as possible.
HTC Sync has been installed, the drivers installed then I uninstalled HTC Sync
The HBOOT is still S-ON and I'm pretty sure I made my goldcard correctly but I could be mistaken. I have rooted an Inspire before but this one isnt rooting for some reason maybe I'm missing something.

Well, the gold card maker integrated with bubbys tool is about ad step by step as you can get. However, this how I did it, using a class 4, 4gb patriot SD card I had sitting around...
With SD card in the phone, connect to pc so it pops up as a disk drive, choose the drive and do a full fat32 format with the smallest allocation size.
Then use the gold card maker. Also, whenever the the rooting process requires a change from disk drive to charge only, ALWAYS unmount the SD card (phone) from the OS first (safely remove hardware). They get corrupted of you don't, and the card will fail.
This rooting process is actually made clearer by following zonderion's video, linked in the op of bubbys thread.
If you replicate his every step, EXACTLY how you see him doing it, you'll succeed, assuming your SD card isn't corrupted from previous poor unmounting practices.
Is there any way to find out if I made the gold card correctly?

[Help] No Sound after trying to root Inspire 4G

I downloaded Bubby's One Click program (3-21-11_RC2.exe) and here is exactly what happened:
1. I know this may be my undoing but I did not turn off antivirus, it found a virus and cleaned it. Knowing my luck it cleaned something out that was critical in the steps.
2. I got the goldcard done (website was down the other day). I got it downgraded and now I have a working debranded Froyo Inspire 4g on 1.32.405.6. But with no sound.
Now something went wrong during a command prompt part and the program did not progress. I tried rerunning the program but it does not progress as it should.
What do I do now? I am going to try follow Cyanogen steps on their Wiki but is their an easier fix?
You need to completely disable or even uninstall your anti virus. Then, delete all of the one click root files. Then redownload, and start over.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
You could push rage to your phone to root it you can still root it with the downgraded rom. You don't have to start from the beginning. Just the part that pushes rage after you turn you anti virus off and redownload the gui.
The downgraded rom does not have the right audio drivers which is why you have no sound.
Also next time please search as there are many many many threads about this.
Mods please close.

I did a search and did not find the procedure. I also searched on the internet. The problem is I do not know how to fix it and rerunning the file does not work. when you do a search for no sound Inspire 5 threads come up and I did not know what to do still.
I will do a search for how to push rage to the phone. Remember the 500mb program does not exactly let you pick and choose the point where to start.
Edit: I will try this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352

use the hack kit. you can even use the older hack kit. It doesn't really matter the size of the program, its how the program is scripted.
There are many threads of downgraded inspire with no sound, the solution is flashing a rom, though you cannot do that because you are not rooted nor are you s-off.
your options.
1. Flash back to stock and restart the whole process.
2. Push rage from adb, then run rage through turminal emulator.
3. Use the hack kit, because you can choose where to start in the proccess, ie. Pushing rage and rooting.
Try using the hack kit. Start with menu option number3.

Already have s-off. Any tools besides hack kit?
If you have S-OFF then your phone is already rooted, assuming AAHK did it's job right (sometimes you'll end up with a soft brick or a bunch of problems but bootloader will still proudly read S-OFF).
You can get ENG S-OFF if you're interested in cooking ROMs, but otherwise you should be good to go.

If you are S-OFF and have CWM installed, just flash SU in recovery: http://cmw.22aaf3.com/common/su-2.3.6.2-efgh.zip
If not, you will have to flash a custom recovery first....if you need further help just let me know. One piece of advice only: DON'T FLASH ENG S-OFF IF YOU PHONE WAS SHIPPED WITH GB...YOU WILL MESS THE BOOTLOADER.
If you want ENG S-OFF use the one in the Hack Kit (you can flash that through options)....:good:

BS for a passkey? If it weren't for the passkey, there would be even more people who don't read the effen manual or research before trying to root than there already are. Its not even difficult, just a little well-invested time. Besides, is it not important to understand the steps the software runs?

I have to disagree, the passkey doesn't work some of the time. I've rooted a few Inspires, and even with the same method, sometimes the passkey just won't generate.
That's interesting, I've never seen that issue and I've rooted several with the process
