Hello world..
2 days ago I bought my brand new htc desire s and i have some questions :
1) My android version is 2.3.3 . Is there any newer version for desire s ? It shoyld be updated from htc or i have to put it manually ? If yes , is there any tutorial ?
2) my htc sense is 2.1 . Is there any new version ? tutorial ?
3) I must do my desire s root ? Is it safe ?
thanks in advance
Well, i will try answer your questions.
1)
The last android version you can get at the moment from the company is 2.3.3. the 2.3.4 is out but not officialy for desire s
2)
The last htc sense you can get from company at the moment is 2.1, but you can install custom roms and get part of 3.0
3) To root a phone is never safe, but it have a really low possibility to brick your phone.. or none.. so it can be said that is safe.. but its not something that the phone was programmed to do.
You dont must to root it but if you want custom content like the 3.0 sense and more you must to
1)My android will be updated from htc when 2.3.4 will be ready ? The unofficial 2.3.4 is stable or it has bugs ? where can i find it ?
2)Htc sense 3 is better than 2.1 ? (what is better ? any link to see the difference?) Where can i find it to install it ?
3)Any tutorial to see how can i root my desire s?
Sorry for the questions but i am newbie and i dont know so much about android
Its fine
1) We cant know if it will be updated...from htc.. i guess it will. and no one made a custom rom with that build from this phone yet.. so no, atm you cant install 2.3.4.
2)HTC Sense 3 is GREAT. you can search in youtube for video. like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=671zezwSNhE
To get it yo uneed to get a custom rom that have it
3) Well, to root this phone you need a hardware piece called XTC Clip at the moment, there could be another ways soon. HTC said they will release an official way to unlock the phones so can root them and install custom roms.
You can check in this forum for the custom mod available for Desire S like this one
CoreDroid:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096043
LBC Mod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048203
The XTC Clip isn't necessary. If your one of the lucky few, your device is already S-OFF. This means that the "security flag" on your phone is turned off. This is exactly what people use XTC Clip for. Check if your device is s-off or s-on. If it's S-On, u need the clip. Else, LUCKY YOU !!!!!!
Here's how-
Pull out your phone's battery, so that it's completely off.
Then, re-insert it. First, hold the volume down key, then without releasing it, press and hold the power key. Then release it but hold the Vol. down key till you see a white screen wit text on it. The first line should say somthing like -
SAGA PVT. SHIP (S-OFF/S-ON)
There, now u know if you're S-OFF or S-On
Lets hope you are one of the lucky person and you have S-OFF!
my ds has S-OFF with XTC clip ,and the guy said it won't S-ON again. Is the official method can make the phone s-off and make it s-on again?

Hello as title says i got my desire S unlocked/ s-off due to not been able to succsesfly temp root.(had it done with xtc clip, gold card made s-off and unlocked £15 docter mobile Bradford town center )
Anyway i flashed the saga ruu rom fine to remove the virginmedia rom and everything went well ( i'm going to have a play with custom roms later etc)
But now i keep getting offered ota updates for the saga rom, part of me wants to execpt this but BUT obviously i don't need to to as everything as been done to my phone.
Do you think Htc are rolling out the unlocked bootloader update for this rom,has any one exepted the update, if i exepted it would it return my phone to a locked bootloader?
Also i scanded the Phone from my pc with (paid license) avg 2011 and its reporting
Virus/object name D:\RavMon.exe \Tronjan horse Generic2.Utc
Is this a fasle positve ?? or do i need to start worrying i have'nt used the phone to log into anything yet due to this
Dont think that HTC will be rolling out any update without a press conference first tbh. Probably just some rom updates to your custom rom.

It's not the updates that worry me, its the virus dection on on the phone (ravMon.exe)
After having thru phone s-off ,but I think It's the gold card that holds the threat
Hi All.
Quick question, I have rooted my sensation and s-off'ed, sweet.
Here is me question, what happens if our friends at HTC update the part that made the s-off possible? Will we get the updates or will only the users who did not tinker with the firmware get them?
Cheers folks.
HTC has stated that there new HTC-DEV site will be where you will be able to S-off your device, its not gonna come in an OTA push, IMO revolutionary has got us S-off, so who care what HTC has coming for S-off....its a little late, besides if you S-off with HTC they want to document who is S-offing their devices.......eff em and just enjoy your no strings attached S-off.
Number 1...It is never a good idea to take an OTA on your phone if you have it rooted.
Number 2...OTA's may contain patches to exploits that were used to obtain s-off.
Number 3...OTA's may or may not s-on your phone depending on how the devs obtained s-off in the first place.
Moral of the story is if you want to maintain root never OTA
i own a sensation device
if i use this revolutionary tool to s-off, recovery and root, is it possible to s-on later? (e.g. to give my phone to htc service to be in warranty)
If i just use the ruuxxxxxx.exe for my device to put the official rom , the phone will be s-on again? or is there any other way?
and wht about official OTA updates? how is going to be achieved?
There is a way to to gain s-on again but it's risky atm. Look for the guide in the stickies in the development forum.
You will not get an OTA on a rooted custom ROM.. end of story!!
So enjoy

Yes it is possible to make you device s-on again just be sure to follow everything to the letter and don't screw up. Also why would you want to. If anything permanently root it and stick with that.

thank you
what about the other questions???
Sorry it took so long you cannot update when rooted. Because of clockworkmod recovery. But just install a stock bases ROM the has the update like I did. hope this helps.

Hi!
First i want to say that i know that there must be other threads about this problem but my lack of knowledge in these matters has made it very difficult to actually know what to look for.
I have a htc Sensation, which is branded (for an operator called the three).
My goal is in the current situation to try to get the original version of the HTC Sense. The version you get on a non-branded version of HTC Sensation.
Later I am thinking about getting CM7, but that is not relevant here
When i started to look into how to proceed I found that I know very little about these things.
And so I turn to you for help.
My first question is: Can you use HTC's official method to unlock the bootloader on a branded phone? I have software number 1.45.771.4 (which is 2.3.4) but on HTC's website it says that you should have 1.45.401.2.
If not, what is the next best way to unlock the bootloader?
My second question is: Can you somehow get the original version of the HTC Sense? I do not mean a custom version of the original, but the actual original? Is there any relevant difference?
My third and final question is: How do I install the original version of the HTC Sense on my phone?
Hope I have explained well enough and that someone has the desire to help me with my small troubles

i uses this thread to debrand my vodafone device (it is rooted via revoltionary tools) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193033
Sent from my Sensation using XDA App
Maybe i should clarify that i think it is kind of scary to use unofficial methods and i would like to find a way that are as "Safe" as possible.
I know that "Safe" may have little to do with the method being official or not but i would first like to explore the official ways before turning to the unofficial ones simply because i think that they are scary.
The ONLY way to debrand is:
1. S-OFF
2. Write the Super CID to your phone
3. Flash an unbranded ROM to your phone
This is easily done with the Revolutionary method, and is 100% reversible should you need to return the phone
Dear all,
I am in the middle of the bridge and don't know where to go...could you please give some help deciding what to do?
I have a Branded Desire S (Vodafone) with v2.3.5 lastest OTA update, and I would like to flash and try the ICS stock WWE from HTCDEV.
The simlock has already been removed, but the thing is can i flash this ICS update? do i need any goldcard or anything of the kind? Will the phone work ok? Or do i have to wait (maybe forever...) for the vodafone update? I reallly would like to unbrand the phone (the vodafone logo and other vodefone apps are really annoying...).
I think if this WWE update will go ok, when i received and warning about any vodafone update (because the serial indicates that this phone is a vodafone one) i have to ignore it and only apply only any WWE updates from HTCDEV, rather than that, i thing phone will work ok... but still i am worried about some things like :
- bricking phone with ICS update;
- some things don't work ok with this update because is a branded phone (i chat with HTC support and they told me that some guy complained about WIFI does not work after the ICS update, ... could it be possible, even if the hardware is the same from branded and unbranded phones?;
- possibility to go back to a 2.3.5 rom if i dont like for whatever reason of the ICS of its behavior on this phone; the HTC guy told me that only on the HTC assistance was possible to make it ... dont we just have to run the correct version of the ROM (by the way i don't know which is mine, could you please tell me? Because i seached on the HTCDEV for the right software number (2.10.168.3) and the file to download is a ".gz" file not a .exe one;
Other thing, does this ICS include a PTG (Portugal) language.
I will be forever grateful for all the help / hints you can give me.:good:
Thx in advance.

From what I've heard, the ics update has bugs, that can only be solved with root access. Flashing the ruu should work fine though, but you won't be able to downgrade without unlocking the bootloader to get root access.
For these reasons I would recommend making your phone s-off (see guides in the "general section), and installing a fixed version of the ics update, or whatever custom rom you want. Then you can still go back to the original state, if you want to.
I read somewhere on my downgrade guide that they have successfully debranded their phone using my guide.

Ditto to above two comments, read, read and then soff rather than htcdev
Sywepd form my DsereiS
Thx for tips, Will soff erase contacts or apps? For root with soff how to flash su??? Is there any repaired / bugless ics stock?
This Guide is to SIM-Unlock your HTC Desire S.
It worked for me 2 times on vodafone locked devices.
Its very Simple just Download via HTC Dev Center the Android 4.0 WWE RUU and Install it.
You need a locked bootloader to Do This.
After then your phone should be automatically unlocked.
Let me Know if something went wrong.
Got excited when I saw this thinking CID changing had been achieved. Anyway,
This does debrand, but I'd hesitate before suggesting people flash HTCDev's 4.0.4 due to its bugs and how you can't temproot it after.
Yes i flashed this RUU onto my desire, it is buggy, i am going back to full root again, i can not find the original ROM for the desire for gingerbread for the life in me or i would re flash it and get rid of the bugs on ICS.
