Deleting messages - Verizon Droid Charge

After deleting unneeded messages when I restored with SMS backup and restore they go to the bottom of the list with a date of 12/30/1969. They will not go away after that.

How to disable my stock sms???

How to disable stock sms?????
I downloaded GO SMS and need to disable my stock somehow so I stop getting double messages. Any tips?

Well normally you won't. You CAN go in and disable SMS notifications via the Messaging app directly so you don't get double notifications.
You CAN delete the APK out of system/apps if you have root, but most SMS Apps piggyback off the stock Messaging program so it is ill-advised.
Just disable notification from stock and use GO SMS. Ignore the stock app (or Hide the icon if using Launcher Pro).
Awesome! It worked. Have a good day.

Go SMS doesn't need the default SMS to work. The default SMS can be frozen or deleted or do as you have done.
Need help with my Lenovo S720

Get titanium backup and freeze the SMS app. That's a system app so I think you'll need to be rooted in order to do it but I'm not positive.

text restore

i never backed up any of my texts is there anyway to restore the text i was sending in one of those private text apps?
I use gosms to back up my text. Never had any problems. Now the sense 3.0 messages also have the back up option.

[Q] SGS2 Lockscreen

Is there a way to change the default app that opens when you swipe the message icon to unlock using sgs2 lockscreen? Instead of opening messages I want to open go SMS. I know I could use widget lockscreen but I'd rather sgs2.

i thought about that too. but i dont think it is possible. i set Handcent to my defaults and it still opens the stock messaging app so i just sticked to it.
I have NEVER tried this but its an idea...
Set as auto for go sms and then delete the messaging.apk from /system/app so it force opens go Sms? Since it would be the only msg app available... Or... It coukd just FC the comand and crash... Lol idk i repeat ive never tried it i do fine with Samsung messaging

You might want to freeze the stock app and set go sms as your default one. I know Handcent has that option and then try it.
If you freeze or delete the stock messging app, you'll probably lose the ability to receive the pictures in mms messages.
I did, but once I unfroze it, mms messages received the pictures again.

[Q] How to disable messaging...

I would like to disable SMS/MMS on my phone, and just use google voice. In fact, I don't even want the messaging app.
How do I delete completely, an installed app that's "built-in" to the ROM?
If you have root, you have two methods:
1. Titanium Backup and uninstall it.
2. Root Explorer to /system/app and delete mms.apk.
I'd make a copy for backup, just in case.
Don't delete it ... that's asking for issues.
You can replace the icon in the dock easily (app drawer, menu, view type, customizable grid, menu, edit, drag desired icon over stock icon, menu, save, menu, view type, alphabetical grid).
In the messaging app (inbox, not within a message), menu, settings, uncheck Notifications.
That way you can just ignore the stock app. It will be pretty much like its been uninstalled, but without the issues that come up when you remove stock apps.

I'd presume that OP doesn't want to receive texts at all, thus preventing him from getting charged by ATT. While I'm not sure that yanking the APK will do it (maybe change your SMS retrieval number?), it's more of a step in the right direction, as hiding notifications just hides the fact that texts are coming through.
If the OP wants to block texting, a call to AT&T should fix that.

Just delete the SMS center number in messaging/advanced settings. Without that number, the phone can't retrieve the message. To disable mms, just uncheck mms retrieval(or something like that) in settings.
I'm running MIUI, and I completely uninstalled the stock messaging app, using Handcent in it's place.
Aren't you able to freeze the sms. apk using TiBu or is that only available with the paid version?

I think that's a paid app feature. But, you need root to use it.

[Q] how to disable stock message

Hi i am using miui rom 4.0.3 galaxy 3 ,i installed chomp sms but every time ii get a message the stock message counts it as unread even though i read it in chomp ,i get a count in lock screen and in stock message icon
Things i did
-i disabled stock notification
-i even back upd stock message and uninstalled it but after that i can't able to receive SMS so i restored it again
So please if anyone knows any solution help me :-(
I have a similar thing with my 'low space' icon in my notification bar which drives me mad, I just rooted my phone and found some apks that allow me to get rid of certain notifications.
Hope this helped

If you turn off all message notifications in stock Messaging, does it also disable notifications in Chomp SMS? If not, you could just do that
I have disabled all the notifications in stock MMS apps, also, and still get the unread message count. I guess you can remove the stock mms app from your homescreen so you don't have to see it. lol. I guess its a bug of HTC's...
actually the problem is with miui , it happens only with miui other roms just work fine
Anybody figured this out? I also prefer Chomp SMS over the stock Messaging app in MIUI. The double notification is driving me insane!
You should be able to delete the stock messenger. Worked on my lg thrill. Just be sure you have a replacement. Not sure if it should be installed first but i did. No problems.

download systemapp Freezer or any app which can freeze system app. You need a rooted device. After installing the app you have to go to system apps and there you can freeze the stock message. Thats the i'm doing it on VK rom ( using Pansi SMS)

When I froze the stock messaging app using Titanium Backup, I stopped receiving text messages altogether.
This is the one thing that makes me miss CM7!

I'm using miui. When I was using cm7, I didn't have this problem. I could disable the notifications in the stock messaging app just fine.
