I have just realized that on the sensation the up/down left/right arrows have been removed.
I absolutely hate this the arrows were supposed to make up for the scrolling ball in the middle. It seems like HTC have stoped listening to the customers, this is not good.
What do others think of this change?

This is a gingerbread thing, not a sensation thing. Download a different keyboard from the Market with arrows.

I understand its a gingerbread issue, I would have preferred if it was a system standard.

i was just being excessively specific, it was in most froyo builds, but i just posted the one i used the most...
as for keyboards on the market with arrows on the bottom, there arent any as far as i could see, and i tried 6 of them. only 1 had arrows, and they were on the right, and couldnt be rearranged
if anyone knows of one, paid or free, it would be very helpful, thx
Try a keyboard called thumb keyboard. Gives the option in the setting to have the cursor row keys in portrait no landscape though. Better then nothing.
Swiftkey is also a very very good ime with an intuitive UI. Oh and has the option to add arrows.
I hated that keyboard on my Evo! I like the standard HTC keyboard it keeps it centered.

Learned something new. Thanks!!! Might need to change my sig
...adjusting to life without the trackball
Ultra keyboard is the best keyboard I have used. Swype is a bit more responsive but I MUST have arrow keys. Plus you can adjust the height of your keys and simple cut and paste options.
Hmmm...
The Desire HD ports of Sensation IME with Trace, etc HAS the Keys.
Try and ask a desire HD Dev to help u guys out

Without the arrows its so uncomfortable it is very difficult and slow to amend an error just by useing the cursor. I hope the arrows are back in the next update.

I couldn't decide if I wanted the arrows or not. They're very helpful, but take up too much space. So I just pull the spacebar when I need them.

What do you mean "pull the spacebar"?. Is this a stock keyboard trick?

What do you guys think of HTC's take on Swype? Personally I hate it, doesn't seem to guess words right....
I just downloaded Swype Beta from the website, it works so much better!!!
I believe the beta is still open to all who sign up, so if you guys are looking for an alternative check it out!
The problem is with the swype keyboard is if you don't want to swype, the keyboard sucks

Not anymore, now it has the horizontal word choice window just like other keyboards (with auto correct)... so you can swipe or tap as you like.
The ultimate keyboard would be if SwiftKey and Swype had a love child....
Which do you prefer? I'm more used to the gingerbread cuz im a cyanogenmod freak

Tried both and don't like either. For certain reasons i have been using Smart Keyboard. Just my opinion as I always have searched for the ideal KB with manual customization, enlarging buttons, increasing haptic, etc...
If swift has all of this, then maybe I didn't give it enough time however I don't like hopping around.

You can enlarge the buttons in smart keyboard? How? I would like to use the entire space so that the buttons actually are touching each other instead if having small spaces in between them.
I need a keyboard with arrow keys, so far smart keyboard is the only one that does the trick for me. Sense and GB keyboard both lack it
I actually use an old version of "shape writer" that is a non market app that I found either on xda or android central forums.
Easily the best swipe style keyboard I've ever tried. And I've tried a LOT

GB keyboard. i like the arrow keys.
Sorry for late reply. (SMART KEYBOARD).
Settings>general settings>key height(there you can manage height & width).
And if needed there is an option to pad the bottom of keyboard for "added lift ".
1 of the best features, are the addition of free skins in options. Just one tap and you can have almost any other keyboard variant.
Side note-Not sure if "pro version" varies as I only have this.

Anyone else having problems with recorrection using the stock ICS keyboard? I thought it was working when I first installed it but doesn't seem to be the case anymore. On my Xoom or N1 running stock ICS, if I place my cursor back on a word I've previously typed it will bring back up the auto-correct suggestions, so you can choose the correct one (like if it didn't guess right). Most people familiar with the ICS kb are likely familiar with this feature.
Any feedback appreciated, this is one of the best features of the keyboard.
Edit: Forgot to mention, I've tried clearing the app data of the KB. No dice.
where'd you get the keyboard

This guy pulled it from his GNEX: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25592151&postcount=7
Apparently its been a really long week.... "recorrection" is only allowed in certain circumstances. I was not using it correctly. If a mod sees this, please close. Thanks.
is this keyboard better than the one from the market?
I've been using it since the guy posted it. I think it's just as good as the one from the market if not better. Reminds me I need to thank that guy...

i love swiftkey because of the dedicated smiley button and sometimes i can type a whole sentence out with just a few taps. paid for that app and haven't looked back. wish they would make an ICS theme for it though.

The keyboard icon shows up when you have more than one available keyboard. That's how you choose which one to use.

On every other android phone I've owned you could have as many keyboards as you wanted enabled without annoying popup icons. It seems that icon is there no matter what keyboard you're currently using unless you disable them in the keyboards settings menu.

When Swiftkey 3 is released it will have a couple new themes called Cobalt (left) and Holo (right, ICS themed).
Hi this is my first time using ICS and I am finding it hard to get used to the keyboard.
I was wondering what keyboard everyone uses/recommends on their One S
Thanks

Hey,
I'm using now SwiftKey 3 ... before it was released I'd prefered Smart Keyboard Pro ... because I cannont handle Keyboards without a little bit of space between the buttons.
regards,
mmry
Thanks I will have a look and try those, I dont see the point of some of the keys like the arrows at the bottom it just seems too crowded for me
It's a toss up between the new swift keyboard and slideit for me... Also Used A. I. Keyboard with no problems, but for sure tons of options
