fixing wacky touch calibration after rom change - G Tablet General

I used to randomly read certain cries for help about the calibration being WAY off after switching a rom or kernel making the Gtab unusable and me thinking poor souls... until it happened to me
I was happily using the Clemsyn Calkulin combo when I got a bit a greedy and flashed a clemsyn 1.5ghz OC kernel, but that made my battery life lower and the Gtab get too hot, so I decided to give Gharmony 2.3.4 a try since I was flashing stuff. I did the Gharmony after wiping everything as instructed, but I could no longer unlock the screen because my taps were registering all over the place.
tried flashing the 1.4ghz OC kernel from pershoot hoping that that would fix it, but it didn't
so here's what worked:
installed the updated android SDK
then found this nice little java script from incubus26jc:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=663390
that allowed me to control the tablet from the computer.
I tried to install Root Explorer so that I could do the empty calibration.ini file method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12555275#post12555275) but Root Explorer kept force closing in GHarmony, so I had to go back and reflash my favorite (never to ever leave again) Clemsyn/Calkulin ROM
installed root explorer, got the calibration.ini file in, rebooted, and everything is great!
the calibration app from the other popular posting never worked for me (and not this time either).
So just thought I'd pass that along to others (the key point of my journey being that java script I found from incubus26jc!)

To calibrate the touchscreen the next time it gets out of whack, try this:
Code:
$ su
# echo -n 1 > /sys/devices/platform/tegra_touch/calibration
I'm pretty sure the echo command will also work. See this post for more.

[FIXED] [ROM] CyanogenMod 4.2.5 PLUS RAM hack, better a2sd, auto swap, nav/facebook

I would suggest doing a Nandroid backup - just in case
Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?umznkzjtgdz
Someone mentioned a bug for a couple app crashes
All right, screw it. I am going to remove the CM stuff and just push the nav/fb, ram hack, etc as just an incremental update
To-Do:
Music.apk - Rewrite to ignore music less than 30sec long (aka voicemails)
BFS 310 Kernel with 10mb RAM hack (BFS 310 hasn't been tested by anyone else yet, why not try)
Add Fix_Permissions v2.03 (running the default 1.31 right now)
ZipAlign all apps (including Google apps)
[Suggest more!]
Converting from Cliq/Hero/1.5 - see below for instructions
Need Google Apps - see below for instructions
Includes:
10mb hack - working on adding bfs310 (seriously if you can help PLEASE DO)
Google Navigation works
Facebook included
Includes HTC IME
Clears cache of old files
Installs RA Recovery
MANY MANY TWEAKS
Adjusted a2sd (mt3g: one time copy from /system/sd to data for apps)
Note: this discontinues A2SD from then on for better performance after apps have been copied, am making script to copy back to SD
For fastest possible speed: have a swap partition on your SD card
The ROM will load a2sd for G1's
If you don't have /system/sd (and just swap partition), it will swapon to that
Trick is it utilises both Cyanogen's compcache plus the swap
Then with 10mb hack - hell this is a perfectly fast ROM
See at the bottom if you need Google Apps (starting on clean build or converting from any 1.5 ROM (Hero/Cliq) OR if you are starting with a blank phone lol (aka no system partition at all))
Hero/Cliq/1.5: Yyou will have to run the thing at the bottom for your phone to convert to 1.6 Donut - run that first, then run main zip).. if you still have probs see the bottom of this post
If you are switching from Hero or Cliq see the bottom
This rom does NOT include Google Apps
Install this first for Google Apps:
http://www.mediafire.com/?z3ozzmyzrad
If coming from Hero/Cliq
Run recovery mode
Hit console
Type these commands:
mount /data
cd /data/data
rm -r com.google.*
rm -r com.htc.*
rm -r com.android.*
Thanks to Cyanogen, Maxisma(for my base on a2sd), daproy (RAM hack),
Amon_RA (recovery image)

I remember reading somewhere that this will lead to problems, and should not be done. From my understanding you should use one or the other, not both.
(otherwise wouldn't we see alot more Devs using that trick?)
can a no wipe update be done from cm 4.2.5?
Thanks for you~
hey guys Good work
Only thing ive ever had come out of the 10mb hack was random reboots, random ringtones. phone ringing when noone was calling. crashing getting texts...
But thanks for the effort lol
Didn't work. Caused me to get stuck on G1 boot screen for an hour. Then totally wiped and again sat there on the G1 boot screen. What is odd is that for some reason my recovery image disappeared and went to JF 1.42 so I couldn't even use recovery. Now I am trying to get my phone back to the way it was.
Fortunately, I still had all the files I needed on my SD card to get me back to where I was. i reinstalled the recovery image and then was able to load my recovery image again. How it got to JF 1.42 (which hasn't been on the phone is many months) is beyond me. I have been doing phone mods for many years and this is the first one that didn't work out.
So, no go?
Unexpected end of Archive......
I tried to do the same thing (cm 2.4.5 + ramhack + swap) but got nowhere, system became sluggish. This should work very well in theory (this should be fast as dwang but with all cm goodies) but I haven't been able to make it work so I'm following this thread and see how it works.

i used to run CM 2.4.x with ramhack and swap no problem, but since 2.4.5 the ramhack slowed my system down so much i just decided it would be better to go without it

Looking into the G1 bug now, did you get a logcat?
Going to try to test on my old G1 in a few, if you have Wave get on there if you want to help debug

Yea I am about to test on my G1 to look around for the bug - my main phone is my myTouch so I didn't test before I posted LOL - my bad on that (it is just in this recent version since worked fine on a friend's G1 before this post)
If you have wave, could you get on there if you want to help debug?
If you have a logcat, just post it here or on pastebin and shoot me the link on Twitter (@wesgarner)
One big thing I am trying to work on here is going through and doing some things Cyanogen couldn't do
Next version I am going to do zipalign on the Google Apps to post that (on a sep update zip for people who prefer to stay legal, hope I don't get a D&S - don't think anyone else has)
I am thinking about doing a choose your kernel like Cyrowski did here - good idea?
Please give any suggestions, this just seems a good way to do some playing around and experimenting that is a project by everybody - developers and users
Also, next project: Write a test into Music.apk to ignore files less than 30sec (I have my voicemails through Visual Voicemail and Google Voice)
It is annoying as crap! Going to get the GIT for Music.apk later today
Can someone mirror this or create a torrent? media fire is so slow today
Ok im seeding but warning if you go from 4.2.5 like me you may get a boot loop like i am right now good thing i backed up
Torrent link: http://bit.ly/blah234
guys this rom is ****. i flashed a number of times, then i wiped all partitions and tried again. dosent work just g1 boot loops, im going to stop seeding. dont trust this guy this rom is bad
LOL, dude, why are people keep thinking any Rom based on the same rom works better? Wake up people. If you use Cyanogen, use Cyanogen, If you use Dwang, use Dwang. any other so call hack does not make it better. Wake up, wake Up. Wake Up. LOL.
I have been using the so call Ram hack, it does NOT make it better after long hour of usage. It slows it down. At least on my G1. I reverted back to Stock boot img, it just WORKS.

Collin_ph Battery Tweak RC1 for Cyanogen / Darch Froyo roms (possibly others)

UPDATE 8/24! Please go to the site and download the latest version RC1b which corrects 2 small bugs people have reported. It now sets the proper permissions on batt-diag so it runs, and it changes the way the program tries to SU so that you can choose to not have the program attempt to run SU if your rom has trouble running su from terminal;
---Original Below---
I decided to create a new forum for the latest battery tweak as so much has changed since the initial versions.
To get things started, I'll just say that collin_ph battery tweak is a collection of scripts designed to make the hero (for now) last longer on battery, run faster, and run better. The tweak includes CPU management, Battery Management, Disk Performance Boost, Scheduler Boost, LED Fix, Audio Quality boost and other features to improve the usability of your Hero.
Instructions: Go to http://www.primoweb.com/froyo to download the latest version and get the documentation.
Boot into recovery and flash the zip file.
After reboot, you may run batt-cfg from shell or terminal (Note, that the scripts will all request root access, so there's no longer a need to su before running them).
to run batt-cfg
go to terminal in the phone or use adb shell from your PC
once there, type
batt-cfg
It will pull up a menu of choices. For further info, see http://www.primoweb.com/froyo
You can load a 691 mhz default (most Cyanogen kernels now only support up to 691 mhz anyway), or, if you have an uncapped kernel, you can choose a 768 mhz setting. Note: Both settings actually run at 691 when on battery and only run higher when plugged in.
The basics of how the battery is extended is that this tweak causes your phone to scale down (to lower frequencies) faster and to scale up slower. In stock configuration, the cpu scales up when only under 70% load -- while part of this tweak causes it not to scale until it's at 95% load, avoiding unnecessary scaling and battery drain. A second (and arguably more important) feature, is that as the battery drains, it lowers the maxumum CPU frequency. So when you have 1% battery left, you may be running at 468mhz instead of 691. Another plus is that the phone runs in a "higher performance" mode while charging via AC, and another mode to make sure the phone is actually charging when connected bia USB, in addition to the settings mentioned above when the phone is on battery. The best part is that almost every parameter in the system is adjustable through terminal or adb shell using a program called batt-cfg -- just run it and you'll be presented with a menu of options.
I'm constantly updating the documentation, so please check back often as I'll update this thread until there's a final 3.0 version. We're already working on a 4.0 which will be available on the market. We'll post more info there as it happens at www.tweaktool.com
COMPATIBILITY NOTES:
This tweak only works with clockable kernels. A lot of ROMS have reclockable or overclockable kernels which should work. I recommend Froyo roms, but I have heard of the tweak running with 2.1 releases. The main incompatibility seems to be with the service startup-- on some roms, the service doesn't automatically start up.
to verify if your rom is compatible and that the tweak is working, reboot.
Then go to terminal or adb shell and type:
pidof batt.sh
if it returns a number, then the service is running. If not, you'll have to start it manually every time the phone reboots by going to terminal or adb shell and typing
batt-cfg
then choose the option to save and exit. This will manually start or restart the service. Note: if your rom does not start the service automatically, you'll have to do the above batt-cfg procedure after EVERY boot or battery tweak will not run.
If you're a ROM developer, you'll can probably make your ROM compatible by adjusting your rom (ramdisk) to call (import) /system/etc/init.local.rc from init.rc -- assuming your ROM has an overclockable kernel like fresh, darch, or others.
ROMS based on unclockable kernels like Damage Control, won't work without a kernel upgrade and may still not start the service automatically upon reboot.
Thanks to Decad3nce for testing and improving several parts of the battery tweak.
So to flash this tweak and have it working on the latest Froyo nightly, do we need to flash overclockfix.zip ??
I had to flash this fix almost with ever nightly, coz the frequency list would not show up when i need to customize tweak settings.
I was reading the documentation and saw the CFS tweaks are disabled by default. Will this correct the GPS issue that was on beta 10?
Froyo Hero to the rescue
Thank you for all your work on this, got 12 hrs on 50% today with beta 10 and Decad3nse #8, 768 pre-set, most time I've ever gotten outa my Hero. Flashed your RC1 (with Darch's RC1) about 45mn ago and used custom settings to jack-up the max to 768 across the board, min.s and intervals stock. Thank you for explaining the 768 pre-set is really 691! Gonna sit on what I've got for a day and then try w/ Darch's "fix" kernel. Hope I can keep the max on batt @ 768 'cause it seems to make my Hero more responsive/less laggy.
I was not able to use the batt-diag in adb shell. I'll report back tomorrow how the tests go.
What is the procedure for installing this if you're currently running Beta 10? Do you have to wipe, reflash, etc or can you just flash the update and reconfigure in adb?
it made my hero laggy!!!

OK I don't know if its just me but when I go into batt-cfg it just runs whoami uid o
Batt-cfg root
Or something like that over and over again. It worked on beta 10 but not like this I don't understand
8/22 RC1 update does not have a working batt-diag, says not found. I am getting "89" when I do "pidof batt.sh"

hmm.. what rom are you running? It sounds like the code I've got in to detect root (and ask for it if necessary) is causing an issue with what you're running. All it does is a whoami to see if you are logged in as root, if not, it su's and relaunches itself.
I'm getting the same root problem with 8/22 nightly.

I'm using my red dawn rom with a modded ramdisk to allow for the battery tweak. The beta 10 worked and even the rc1 asked for su and I said allow the the whoami just kept going and going. I uninstalled via ur instructions on ur site and flashed again and same results
RC1 kept crashing my phone. Right after saving settings it would freeze them hard reset and get stuck at the htc screen. I've reverted back to beta 10. The only problem I've ever had with beta 10 is I would have random hard resets when charging. I really can't even pin point it on this tweak but its the only thing that I could think that would do it.

CFS Tweaks and Decad3nce Kernel
I understand from reading the Kernel info, that the CFS on this tweak needs to be disabled first....did you make CFS tweaks on by default? Arent we supposed to flash the kernel first, then disable cfs tweaks and reboot? Im confused as to the order in which things are flashed. WIPE, ROM, GSHITZ, BLACKMOD, KERNEL#7, COLLINS RC1. Then go to term EMU and disable CFS, then save then go back into batt-cfg and choose option 1 768 and save and exit then reboot. Woudl that be correct?

kadspd error in latest initrd

First of all i would like to thank all the devs who spent alot of time and effort in developing android for us.
Down to business i finally got time to spend trying out android, im using haret method and i know its not as fast and complete way of using android, but im just gonna do this to provide feedback.
Alright heres my setup,
Using Atool
Polaris, 320x240 panel 1 (pola 100), no vibrate on boot, sd system, sd data. made the default.txt.
2.6.32_zImage-11-29-10-liquid-latest
androidinstall.tgz from Super Froyo release 16
androidupdate.tgz from androidhtc
Initrd from androidhtc
Installscript from atools, erase data and system, advance mode, install system, install update, fix permission, clear davik cache.
The install begins and never finishes, it keeps repeating infinitely around
INFO: task kadspd:17 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
and alot of other memory address related stuff
i did check this thread, but after a few pages i didnt see a solution there
Kaspsd:17
after some testing i think it was the initrd because i changed it dzo's last initrd from dzo and it worked. could this have to do with my sd card being class 2.
I hope this can help you guys. I'll post further results when i get more testing done.
Update:
Ok it seem, the loop is not within the install script, but the boot up process although i saw it say "Install module for this kernel", why is it installing again when the last script is still disabled?
Btw, this occurred when i tried replacing the initrd back again after the install was successful using dzo's initrd.
Dzo's initrd was causing a weird issue on wake up, the lock screen, was inverted like in a mirror. wth?
Regards,
Lord Meshadieme
waiting for more detailed results...
Um, can you be more specific im not very linux oriented.
Lets see, here's the steps, starting trying to do a fresh install which basically succeeded (this is using your kernel and initrd), but concurrently its stuck booting. BTW why does the booting process have a line saying "Install modules for this kernel" so here's the dmesg from the successful install. no bootlog since it never completes booting in the loop..
It does boot using dzo's initrd, although quite buggy, (the bootlog below is from that successful boot using dzo's initrd) i'm gonna try it again and see what works and what doesn't. anything specific you want me to check?
Update:
So far testing shows BT turning on, haven't testing file transfer or headset.
Turning on Wifi freezes the phone, already applied the androidupdate..
Calling works GSM.
Battery is showing incorrect value, there's a fix for it somewhere right? i'll search for it.
Waking up from sleep does that weird inverted screen for like a second then it goes to normal. (it is literally like a mirror, text is even flipped)
USB Mass Storage, is connecting but the drive does not show up in windows.
can't test market without internet, not sure how to use internet through usb yet.
no gprs/edge/3g to test right now.
Camera, is weird i was able to take a picture but it was a dark shade of green... but now i cant the app hangs.
cant test gps since the default map tool asks for internet too.
I think you did a really mess!!
what you call "kadspd error" is when kernel kill a script due to long time execution (you probably wait too long). The action is the message "install modules!!!!".
Please next time pay more attention!
Follow all the steps in atools guide. You forget to mix the rom with the module update!!!!
BTW install MY kernel, and apply update before the first boot.

[TUT][Script]v6 Supercharger and Kick Ass Kernelizer script WORKS

Hello. The supercharger script by zep worked great on my galaxy ace. Now, has anyone been able to use it with the tab+? I think it would be a huge help to remove kauncher redraws and in improving the battery life. Do you guys think it would work on our tab? Our brothers from the gtab 10.1 were able to use it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1256796&page=24

EDIT. 12/29/2011
Okay. Since no one bothered to reply, i took the risk and applied the script. To cut to the chase, IT WORKS. There are no launcher redraws and my tab sure feels a lot smoother. I also have 400 used RAM instead of 600 after a restart. Not to mention, i now have 6037 AnTuTu benchmark score as opposed to the 5700 that i got before supercharging.

(I updated the versions to their latest in accordance with zepp's latest released scripts. supercharger 5.2 and KAK 3.1. The steps to be followed are still the same.)
If anyone wants to try, here are the steps that i followed.
BUT first things first.
CREDIT GOES TO zeppelinrox FOR HIS GREAT WORK ON THIS SCRIPT.

Zepp's original post with the log changes http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18703418&postcount=5021
Save the supercharger script anywhere on your storage
Run Script Manager and press Browse as Root (the one under Install). When the SU dialog appears press allow.
While on Script Manager, browse to where you save the supercharger script click it
A new window would appear. Press the "Su" icon under the Run button at the upper left hand corner. Press Run.
A lot of codes would appear. Some sort of system check bla bla bla. Just a little patience...
"Press Return Key... and Come Get Some!!" would appear. DON'T PRESS THE RETURN KEY. Press anywhere and press any key and then press enter.
You would then see a lot of options 1-31. Please enter number 9.
It would now run the setting we chose. Like lowmemkiller values, OOM groupings, Kernel/Mem Tweaks, etc..
If an option to not use Build.prop appears, cause it might cause boot loops, then allow the creation of local.prop (i think. i can't remember). Just follow your heart. haha
Press the back soft key. "Script is running. What do you want?" Choose Kill.
Since we're all using stock ROMs (for the moment), press the back soft key until you reach the ROOT directory. Then open the Data folder and click on the 99Supercharger.sh
Then under the Run button, press the icon for Su and Boot. This would automate the supercharger script upon boot. Then press run and then kill the script.
Run the first script again (yup the one from Step 1). and now, choose option number 30. It would now super clean the system and restart.
DONE! Feel the difference!
If I missed anything, please inform me.
You could also install the Kick Ass Kernel Tweaks (KAK) from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18703418&postcount=5021. Get the update 3 RC3.1
KAK Direct Download http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=877590&d=1327834355
IMPORTANT!!!!! Just follow the steps from above and be sure not to apply the IO Tweak as it is very unstable and might cause boot loop
Then using step number 11, navigate to 98KickAssKernelizer.sh and make it run upon boot.
Reboot your device and DONE!
Based on MY observations, here are the changes that I noticed.
Completely no launcer redraws (wherein the widgets disappear and appear. it's like refreshing in windows), I'm using the default Touchwiz UX.
There is no delay with the Task Switcher. (the third soft key) Before applying the script, I had like 1-1.5 second delay with it. Now it only has 0.5 or so.
The RAM usage is stable at 530-570. Compared to 660 before supercharging
The best part about this script is that multi-tasking has been easier. Jumping from one app to another is now a breeze. Applications start faster than before.
The thing is, our tablet is already blessed with great hardware which is why it is already fast and smooth to begin with. BUT, there is always room for improvements. FACT.
BR
That's impressive!

Interesting find. Would you mind sharing the installation process. From the original post seems quite easy, but on the 10.1 tread it looks way more complicated.

Updated August 1: Added Kick Ass Kernel Tweak Installer but without io scheduler tweaks. Use this new script if you try the regular Kick Ass Kernel Tweak Installer and get a boot loop! (My apologies to those that got the boot loops )

And you think that I would wait for tutorial or tester to try it out !?!?!
OK, I did the following :
1) downloaded the script and put it in the sd card ( not external sd ) root
2) downloaded and installed script manager
3) run the SM and selected the script
4) selected run as root and hit the RUN
5) selected 1 as scrolling speed
6) selected 9 ( MegaRam 2 )
7) selected 17 = Exit
8) broswed back to ../data and selected the 99supercharger.sh file
9) selected the run as root and run at boot option
10) Save and Exit the SM
11) Rebooted
All fine ( I mean no bootloop ) but to be quite honest NOTHING changed in terms of performance. I double checked that the script was run at boot and it did, since the values have been changed.
But the benchmarks are the same and the tab seems lagging as usual.
Also the amount of free RAM have not changed from previous stock configuration.
I fear that the main problem is GoLauncher, that seems to have slowed down the tab even more after the last update.

Hmmm.. Maybe it's because we have different applications installed, settings, etc. With my experience, there are some very noticeable changes.
I think it may hav had to do with changing the I/O tweaks from local.prop to build.prop, it said it was dangerous. after reboot about 20 sec or so SuperUser toast says script manager was granted root permissions, meaning the 98/99.sh scripts were loaded. I didnt run the v6script at boot. after about the 3rd reboot, I had time to go into app drawer and quickly drag uninstall and it stopped constant reboot.
tried the instructions in the OP and i can confirm this works on my P6200 and solved a lot of the lag I had.

Hmm, I had originally used the V8 version . I have uncharged, wiped the cache and recharged it with RC4 9V . But still the same. I do not see any difference from the original performances and the Antutu Benchmark gives pretty much the same results as before. I was hoping my tab would fly out of my hands after this hack ......... but not really
Curious to read about others, it looks like we have only 3 brave souls so far

Haha yeah. And I am hoping that there would be more brave souls in the Development Section.
What score did you get in the Antutu Benchmark?
5648/5804/5727 three consecutive tests.
uncharged everything and got back to stock config : 5654/5841/5708
After uncharging I still got left a 1000HP Super-(6,12,200,220,240,275).sh file in ../data
P_
Bump.
No more testers?
P_
I am giving it another shot .
The only noticeable difference is that the amount of available RAM is always around 300 mb. BUT this also tend to decrease ( sometimes to 100 ) with extended use. With stock configuration I'd have 100/250 available, with the system bumping it up to about 300 when it was going lower than 100.
As for the quick access button, it's definitely snappier when you turn the device on, but it goes back to about 1 sec after a while.
I have a P6200 and applied the script, look smooth then before applied the script. Thanks for the instruction
Hey just wondering if anyone knows how to remove this script..Thanks!

It has an option to unsupercharge. It's listed in the menu with the different options of supercharging etc.
I'm currently suggesting that people do NOT use this script.
There are bugs in the GT-P62x0 kernel(s) that can (and do) cause kernel panics. Under normal circumstances, those panics would cause your tablet to simply reboot.
However, this "supercharger" script overrides a kernel parameter and prevents the kernel from rebooting on a panic, instead forcing it into an infinite loop. Instead of the bug rebooting your tablet, it causes your tablet to be frozen (if the screen is off, it appears to be a so-called sleep of death.)
To make matters worse, if this situation occurs when the tablet is running on battery power (not plugged in), then the infinite loop will completely deplete your tablet's battery (which can harm it.)
Take care
Gary
I have used supercharger on my phone without issue but after
reading what Gary discovered, I won't be using it again.
Thanks Gary

Linux on tf101

Hey guys!
I followed the process of using ubuntu on a tf101 now for 1 year and thaught thst i will flash it once it is more stable.
Well i kind of searched but i can't find any comments on how good/bad it runs on our tf101.
So i wanted to know how well ubuntu runs on our tablets.
Is it smooth?
Is it useable?
And do you think it is better than android?
I use it mostly for reading pdf's and browsing with little bit of watching live streams or youtube videos. Do you think ubuntu would be better for me?
I used it ubuntu quite a long time for everything but gaming on my desktop so i have enough experience for it.
However if it won't run well on the tf101 i will not flash it and stick with android
Regards

hi!
actually i've the same "problem"...
i've read a lot in the threads about how to install and how to fix some bugs (wifi, bluetooth and so on)
there are also some problems with the dock. (depending on which kernel you're using)
but i hardly find a answer how the usability is... there are some youtubevideos but they main information of them is "it's bootable and i can open browser and office"
it would be really nice if somebody could share his experience with ubuntu, tubuntu or arch on the transformer.
i've just ordered the keyboarddock and once i've got it i'll try it on my own and make a real review of linux on the tf101.
but if somebody of you says:
-> the batterydrain is horrible
-> the browser is much slower than in android
-> there too much bugs and crashes
i'll wait till a better version of ubuntu touch probably.
kind regards
I'm dual booting ubuntu and android on my tab.
The reason i can't let android go, is the lack of hardware accelaration and flash on the ubuntu. Other than that it feels amazing!
Super fast and pretty stable. I even do some programming and compiling on it without problems.
So, if you would only browse the web, and read PDFs, i would recommend it. But as you mentioned Youtube and other streaming services, i'd say android.
Only way to find out is dual booting, then you'll have a taste of having a full desktop experience on your hands
thx!
no hardware acceleration is really a pity but i'll guess it's just a matter of time til it also works.
is it possible to make it run without the keyboarddock or should i wait til it's here?
edit:
which version do you prefer?
at the moment i guess the tubuntu verion is the most relieable?

You can install a touchscreen keyboard in all of them.
The first one i used was Tubuntu, but i had no experience with linux. After feeling a little more confident i've flashed the Raring image just for fun
You'll enjoy it
it worked!
i've accidentally installed the old lubuntuversion v1.1rc1 but it still worked very well! :victory:
however i had the bug with the blank browser, thats why i've tried raring but i've noticed that for raring the hardwarekeyboard is a musthave for installation
now i'll try v1.2 and i'm very positive that its working great!

It's confusing at first, so many threads and information spreaded all over.
Lubuntu 1.2 and chromium kernel is the best combination for starting
ok i've managed to install lubuntu v1.2 (i guess the standardkernel is chromium) but now the wifi is broken

Download the latest kernel from the same place you downloaded lubuntu (x3's dev.h If I remember correctly). Rename it to Linux.IMG and put it on the images folder of tubuntu app. Flash chromium kernel again from the app .
I'm on mobile now, but as soon I get back to my tablet or PC I'll give you better instructions.

thx! but there's no need to hurry
i gueass it's a little bit mor complicated because i've a sbk1-version.
i've downloaded now the 2.6.36 - [cpu 1.4 ghz] [gpu 300mhz] kernel from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995157 renamed it as you told and flash it by reflashing the whole sys.
the other way for sbk1 for flashing only the kernel is much more complicated...
edit: with the 1.4 ghz kernel the wifi worked but after one minute i've got a freeze. i thought it's maybe because of the oc so i've tried it again with the 1.2ghz (stock) kernel -> also freeze after some seconds...

Can't you update the kernel using the tubuntu tool? I think it's the same procedure no matter the sbk version.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium HD app
i looked it up in the how-to from tomcom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35895490&postcount=2
i'll try it, but as far as i know, changing the kernel.img into linux.img and reflashing the whole thing should do the same...
the strange thing ist that the only working version was the old build (exept chromium browser bug), the newest tubuntu version has no wifi and with the newest kernel it has random bugs. (freezing at boot, freeze after login, booting into "tf101 login:")
those errors are even with the same version after just rebooting my tablet
edit: ok i've reloaded everything and used the 1.4ghz kernel. the first time wifi wasn't working and it froze but after a reboot wifi worked finally! but it's really slow an unstable
ok, finally i've got my dock.
i've reflashed again 1.2 with 1.2ghz kernel. wifi working, but chromium is really unuseable... sometimes it's loading the page but most of the time it crashes the whole program or there's an errormessage "ups something went wrong"
i'm not shure if lubuntu is unstable only on my tf101 or if i've done something wrong. i fear it's my tablet because i've done everything exactly like in the tutorial.
is it worth to try raring? now i've the dock so i can install it, or is it more unstable than lubuntu?
edit: i've manage to reflash from prime to eos4 and back to working dualboot. suddenly the lubuntu was working better and was more stable. even chromium was much faster than any browser in adnroid. after that i wanted to install th ubuntu softwarecenter, but afer 5min the whole tablet froze... after rebooting i everything worked fine. to i whanted to boot again into linux and now it suddenly can't even boot
is there a way to just reflash only the linuxpart? i don't want to reset android again...

If you wish to only reinstall Ubuntu, put a copy of bootloader.bin and transformer.bct in the \bins directory of your Tubuntu application folder. They are located in the \images directory.
Now copy ubuntu.img (it doesn't matter which image you use for example lubuntu or the others available) to the \bins directory.
Connect your cable and boot the tablet into APX mode. You can have the Tubuntu app open to see "green" letters that say you are connected just to make sure.
Now open a command prompt and make sure it is set for the \bins directory.
Copy each line and hit enter (wait for the command prompt to show it's done each time)
wheelie -1 -o 0x300d8011 --bl bootloader.bin -c transformer.bct
nvflash -r --download 16 ubuntu.img
nvflash -r --go
After the last command there the tablet should reboot and most likely to Android if Android is your primary OS that is loading. Once in Android, shutdown and boot back up with volume down and power, then volume up like normal.
The new image is installed without disturbing the Android partition. There is a function called flash rootfs on the Tubuntu app to do this automatically but X3 is aware it isn't working and will fix it when he gets a chance.
thx! i#ve now installed raring and tried to install gnome-core and (after error an reflashing) lubuntu-desktop.

Hmm...did you uncomment universe entries in the aptsources? Can't remember the name of the file but if you install gnome core without editing the sources file it may not get the packages it needs. Rerun through my raring gnome core guide.
jep i've followed your guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37803357
i'll try it again. could it be that my cpu or the ram is producing errors?

You could try this:
http://dtbaker.com.au/random-bits/dpkg-received-a-segmentation-fault.html
mhm... it's getting stranger and stranger...
i've redone everything and while gnome-core installation i get a lot of:
[random numbers] BUG: scheduling while atomic: swapper/0/0xffff random codes...
i've tried dpkg --clear-avail but apt-get update makes also an error suddenly:
dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct problem.
after that it's still not working.
yesterday i was able to get nearly through the installation with repeating sudo dpkg --configure -a several times, but after 30min my transformer froze...
Is it possibel to use 3g on Ubuntu? Got the 101G.
