Is there any kernel which supports USB Host mode for Nexus S?
Also could you please let me know If I need to install "Netarchy Nexus - 1.3.4-bfs-2.3.3-universal (Universal for non-stock 2.3.3 roms)" kernel on my CyanogenMod 7 Nexus S, would I have to wipe data and cache? And lose all the currently installed applications and data?

You do not need to wipe for the kernel.
USB host would be awesome!

Folks,
with custom ROMs based on 2.3.4 I experienced that I can no longer connect my Sensation via USB harddrive mode to my car's USB.
It worked with stock ROM 2.3.3, even though I had to deactivate USB debugging and turn it on again...
Yesterday I had the time to cross check:
- restored my stock ROM 2.3.3 NAND et voila: USB connection to car is working
- installed 2.3.4 OTA (Vodafone DE): USB connection to car not working...
Connection via USB to PC is working without any problems...
Anyone else experiencing probs here?
(my car is a BMW with the latest navigation system btw)
++ EDIT ++
Problem solved with Pyramid3D 7.2.0 ROM based on 2.3.5
See post 11 in this thread

Yep!
With 2.3.3 I had either to disable it when it was enabled or vice-versa to get it running... but it ran!

You mean if I did select disk mode when pluggin the cable in...?
Dude, sure I did!!
there was a issue with with non stock kernal, maybe u need to update to latest, alternativly there was a app listed in mikes rom, to over come the problem
I am on pure stock...
Using a non-stock kernel... Maybe an option... But browsing through the threads I didn't find anything related to this issue - remember, harddisk mode with PC is working.

So you tried all the modes. Weird...
Did you have to do any configuring on your HU to get it to recognize the phone the first time?
Maybe clear those configurations on the HU and start over?

Yep, tried everything possible...
No config needed on car, plug-in and off it went with 2.3.3 - just toggle USB debugging on or off in phone...

Will give P3D ROM based on 2.3.5 a try...
++ EDIT ++
Pyramid3D ROM 7.2.0 installed
>> ABLE to connect with my car in disk mode again!!
This time even without switching debugging on or off
Hope it stays this way!!
Dies anyone know which system apk the USB disk Feature is in?
Would try to compare 2.3.4 with 2.3.5...
But maybe it's a kernel issue as well!?

Surprisingly my iMac needs SOMETHING. Normally what you say is absolutely true, but...
My Captivate and Skyrocket both have USB ADB connection issues on the Mac. I have a Droid2 and it works fine, but connecting the Captivate gives me a LOGCAT of about 1 page, then it disconnects. The Skyrocket NEVER connects.
Tried it on another identical iMac and SAME RESULTS so it's a hardware / Apple configuration issue. Go figure!
I'm searching the forums for some additional information but so far no luck!
iMac 27-inch, Mid 2011 OSX Lion 10.7.2
Yesterday I flashed my i9023 back to Gingerbread 2.3.6\GRK39F (just for fun) using the official Google factory image from here:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#soju
I notice that the NFC no longer works and gives the error message 'an error has occurred' (or something to that effect) when trying to activate it.
Has anyone else noticed this? My NFC works fine on all the other images so my hardware is good, and it used to work back in the old days.
Have you wiped it properly beforehand?
If not, there's a guide in the General section

If I recall it was a bug on 2.3.6 regarding NFC. Hence the update to 2.3.7.

yes, i unlocked bootloader via fastboot which wiped the device. also the factory images flash-all.sh script wipes by default.

2.3.7 was for the 4g nexus only.
anyone feel like flashing back to GB to reminisce the good old days and see if nfc works?

Any chance of getting this to work on a Nexus 4? Someone gave me one the other day.
Thanks in advance!
Not without a custom kernel that supports otg and a powered otg cable. I use ziddey's kernel and a portable charger to use my flash drive on the go. Works great

You could do it, but you would need to do some fancy cable splicing to make a battery provide power for the card reader and a kernel with the OTG patches
I know thats not the same card reader....but it is possible this work only with custom kernel?

Its possible only with a custom kernel that has the otg patches.
They never enabled it and that goes the same with the Nexus 5,
Google really pushes users to use cloud service. Lol
The galaxy phone supports otg out of the factory.
But crap that touchwiz stuff! That's the only thing I don't like about Nexus devices, no micro sd slot and no otg support.
But hey we do get pure android !
Thanks for the reply

@Neurotica i got it from one of the wireless stores around my area he was selling them for cheap so i took a bite on it but any methods of trying to root it or getting my pc to read it is not working any suggestions?
@MakoVince is there somthing i could do with it as far as rooting it and changing the ROM? im new to Android devices so im not sure what to do with this phone
I'd suggest that you try to update your device while it is still stock. Sideload the updates until you read KitKat.

0. Unlock the bootloader
1. Install CWM or TWRP via fastboot
2. Back up the pre-release software and save it on your computer
3. Install 4.4.2 factory image via fastboot to 'fix' your device
4. Share the backup you made, because it's interesting
