Prevent Display getting dark while phoning - Milestone XT720 General

Hello guys.
First of all i want to thank xda - developers for this great forum.
Its the best one ive founded and i am very glad to use it.
I have a modified milestone xt 720 with custom firmware v4 kahlpower.
I also use setcpu to increase battery lifetime.
I try to prevent wasting ressources so i created a profile for setcpu:
If my display screen is off, my cpu will run with 125 Mhz min and 250 Mhz max conversative.
If the screen is on my cpu has 550 Mhz min and 850 Mhz max. conversative.
So when i am phoning my milestone ist very slow , because he jumps from 125 Mhz
to 550 Mhz and the other way round due to the photosensor ( lichtsensor).
I searched various of topics including this issue but did never find a solution ..
How can I disable the photosensor or prevent my phone from getting dark while telephoning ?
Thanks
Trapple

Hi go to settings and click inti display their are different time setting for your light to stay on.
Sent from my XT720 using XDA Premium App

There are no settings
i want my display while I am telephoning enabled ( on)
the sensor is the issue , which sets my display on and off

I think there are proximity sensor settings in the build.prop but I've never tried changing them.

if display goes on i think the phone would get hot and power consumption will up.
btw your face would feel hot isnt it if the display not getting dark while you are on the phone..
use speaker phone or a bluetooth headset if you still want it

Potential million dolar app idea

i dont want to give to much info away. But it has to do with auto screen brightness on lower end phones.
I dont know how to program it, so i can't make it.
Bassically the App would start running when the user turns his screen on. when his screen is on the camera would be instantly activated , then scensing the light of the nearby enviorment. Then auto tunne the light of the screen for best viewing
what do you guys think?
i dont know if this idea has been integrated into other apps like brightness motion or something

I'm sorry to tell you but it's not a million dollar idea
A) the camera will use some battery
B) there is some sort of brightness sensor which uses less battery already being used

Ya the camera might consume more battery than a light sensor....but if this can be done then who wouldn't want to try it out on their phone....without those sensors!!...

Its been done anyways, never understood why...

Its called an ambient light sensor and just about every Android phone has it.
And also problem, that it is too slow procedure, while your camera turn on...
The app Lux already does this. If the light sensor is blocked, it will use the camera and vice versa.

Screen problem?

Hi,
I have a problem with my TF700T. For s few seconds after waking my tablet up, image displayed has wired colors. It looks like screen displays less colors and in few seconds it fluently becomes as it should be (pls see attachements).
This only takes place when tablet is in eco mode. In balanced and normal mode everything is OK.
Does anybody have similar effect in eco mode?
I have this too. Not that severe, but i have noticed it.
I think this is due to governor change or something related to cpu clocking. I had this with many custom roms on my phone and i don't think is a hw problem at all. So, no worries.

Thanks for reply. It also came to my mind that probably in eco mode CPU is too weak to handle full HD display.
All in all, such thing should not take place on tablet that is supposed to be one of the best and is one of the most expensive on the market.

Looks like last firmware update has solved my problem. Screen works just fine now

screen flicker on low brightness

Do you experience screen flicker for your tablet when;-
1) Brightness set low manually. espicially at night !
2) Auto brightness set but flicker comes again when screen brightness is low in dark room.
3) Wifi is turned on and signal is low.
note : i disable the "auto adjust screen power" and provlem still exist on low brighness !!
My friend has the same problem and he can't figure out the reason :/
In GT2 i don't have this problem but with nexus7 yes.
is that individual problem for this tablet or all of galaxy tab 2 7.0 have this problem ??
please what should do ?
i noticed somethings :
1-screen flicker on low brightness under 20 % when i rise it above 20 % it gone !!!
2-it show clear on background color white !!!
3-that happen sometimes not all time and when i Lighter down screen a little by little the problem gone !!!!!!
waiting your answer ..
thanks

Since you are using the official firmware, then we can rule out the possibility of a bad modification from custom firmwares as the cause.
First thing to try usually is to see if the problem still occurs after a fresh factory reset, so do backup your stuff first.
If the problem still exists after a factory reset, then it could very likely be a hardware problem with the LCD backlight & you should send the tablet in for servicing.
the problem almost solve when i use app ( screendim)
www.4shared.com/android/h9Qv3UW8/ScreenDimFull.html
why is that ?!! what do you think ?
I have noticed this same problem with GT2, but no where near as often as with my Nexus 7. Ive also noticed my polarized sunglasses have less impact on the GT2 than Nexus 7 when the device is held in landscape position. I've just gotten used to the flicker I guess, because I rarely notice it anymore.
AW: screen flicker on low brightness
Same problem on my tab below 30% of brightness. I'm using Custom Auto Brightness to solve the problem.

In Preferences I checked:
Active service x
Disable system autobrightness x
Use sensor filter x
Set brightness smoothly x
Use hysteresis x
Foreground mode x
Visible Icon x
Use service sensor x
In Advcanced preferences I checked:
Hardware acceleration overlay x
Show raw sensor reading x
Hardware acceleration overlay x
I didn't change anything else in Advcanced preferences.
I use CM10.1.
i use app ( screendim ) like i said about one week and it is very simple and the problem almost gone when i put on low brightness !
Actually these are considered workarounds rather than solutions.
I use my Tab 2 at below 30% brightness as well on stock (albeit rooted) ROM, it works just fine.
If the root cause is likely to be a hardware problem, then you should send it in while the device is still covered under the warranty to replace the LCD.

really that made me crazy !! but after use app ( screendim full ) the problem don't show almost time on low brightness !!
what do you think ? is that wrong to use apps to soleve problem or should take it to SAMSUNG service ..because it will take week to diagnose problem !!
is there any apps that can make backup to all apps and all settings and all homescreen settings and games saved for restore it if service make data reset for tablet ??

Right, I've tried 4 tabs at my local dealer and everyone had screen flicker on low brightness - more or less. Especially when it's dark it is easy to see. 2 of them showed the screen flicker after a short period of time while the screen was activated. The other 2 tabs showed the screen flicker after about 10-20 minutes. Every tab came out of the box. I think it is caused by a cheap LCD panel.

On my panel screen brightness below 30% is too dark for me. So it doesn't matter for me. So I set the minimum brightness higher via Custom Auto Brightness.

That's what I'm afraid of. If I sent it to Samsung and the screen flicker doesn't show then I get the tablet back.

Make a nandroid backup for example.
Interesting, I was wondering which country/region do you all reside in from which you purchased the Galaxy Tab 2 ? This sounds like a batch problem if so many people complain about similar issue.
From where I hail, & based on the local forums, I have never heard of this issue with Galaxy Tab 2 in general until here on XDA Developer forum.
I may not be an expert but from the description of the problem by various members, it seems to be a serious hardware flaw that ought to be replaced under warranty.
if problem stop at this point that okay and it isn't bother me anymore when i use app ( screendim ) ...but i am fraid to developed to more than that !!!
if there is expert tell me will be more than that with screen or not ?

[Q] Galaxy Note Edge Tmobile. Brightness Issue/Overheating

Just got my Note Edge 2 days ago and when comparing the screen brightness (at max/no auto) it is much dimmer than our note 4. now I am not talking about the super bright setting that occurs when its on auto and outside but instead indoors. I also have been seeing a message in the display brightness settings "UNABLE TO INCREASE THE BRIGHTNESS FURTHER. THE DEVICE IS OVERHEATING" Could this be due to a faulty battery or something else? This is my only complaint with this phone but its a big one especially if i'm receiving this message. Should I return to Tmobile or is it most likely a software glitch. It is very cold where I am at so it has not been out in the sun or plugged in too long. minor use has led to this overheating message usually only seen in the summertime when in the car too long
why you need turn on full brightness? I only use brightness like 20% on that slider. it also save battery.
Sent from my SM-N915T using XDA Free mobile app
I typically enjoy and have always used max brightness and even if i didn't this issue probably shouldn't be happening. It's the fact that i think something is wrong with my new phone already. I want to make sure by asking questions
Yes something is wrong if you're not gaming intensely or something like that. It should never overheat just from full brightness I have the T-Mobile one and I use max brightness all day no problems.
Guys the samsung NoteEdge on lollipop has that issue. Basically you can't switch auto brightness fully off it will control your brightness even if uncheck the box. After weeks of searching and trying I found a kind of solution because I love to see my screen in all his power and brightness. Solution is call "screen filter" can be found in the play store for free. Set the brightness at 100% and switch it on. You'll see the difference.

Question Adaptive refresh rate

The first day I had my GS22U I noticed what I thought was some sort of odd screen adjustments but thought it may be adaptive brightness learning my habits. As I've used the phone I was able to reliably replicate my issue. Anytime I'm using adaptive refresh rate and I'm using a text field I can see what appears to be very subtle gradient shifts or flickering both when I start typing and when I stop typing. This is especially noticable in Google chromes search bar, Facebook messenger and reddit text fields. If you use a camera to look at the display it almost appears as an old school crt monitor when you see it through a camera. I was able to replicate this issue on my wife's device as well and the issue can be resolved by lowering the refresh rate to 60hz.
Has anyone else noticed this issue, or would car to try to replicate the issue? It is extremely subtle and easiest to detect using a camera to record it. Is there anyway to lock my refresh rate to a higher frequency with root permission?
Update, I happened to scroll down and see the galaxy max hz app that allowed me control over the refresh rate and I noticed that certain frequency would create the aforementioned issue and certain frequencies wouldn't. It seems as if seeing the min to 60 and max to 120 has resolved my flicker issue. Edit: never mind. It seems that different frequencies or the changing of frequencies tends to make the issue worse.
i turned it off, phone is very laggy with it. my screen is flickering
Now it seems as if I'm having a hard time noticing it with my naked eye but it seems to be getting worse when I look at it through a camera. I'm wondering if I should trade this in as a defective device.

No but worried it's going to get worse and become even more noticable with the naked eye. I wouldn't have thought to look at it through a camera if I wasn't noticing something I noticed with my naked eye.
