Redownloading games after rooting... - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hey guys, I'm thinking about finally rooting my G2x but I have a question that I really need answered before I do so. Do any of you know if I will be able to redownload the games I bought from Gameloft? We all know their stupid strict policies and I don't want to have dished out $7 per game (3 games) for nothing...

Use Titanium Backup from the market place to backup all yours apps and app data then each time you flash a rom you can restore them no problem. Also you MUST do a nandroid backup just in case you flash n your not happy with the rom you can restore to exactly where u left off.

Gameloft does this verification process when you start up a game though and I don't know if they will block me from a Titanium backup. Don't get me wrong, I've rooted my fair share of devices (mytouch, mytouch 3g, cliq, cliq xt) and I've never had a problem from the android market but I heard Gameloft will block you from the game if you are downloading from a different device or redownloading between a certain time period. I don't mean to be redundant, but I feel that's BS if I'm a paying customer. If I have the same #, they should understand that my phone is ever changing. Especially since it's an Android phone...

[Q] First time G2X owner and Noob to forum

Hi guys, I just got my g2x last thursday and think its one of the best phones out there. Its on stock gingerbread and Im wondering what kind of tips I can get from yall as far as making the phone look good and what are some of the best apps to use.
I am a previous iphone owner and the iphone was so easy to jailbreak and mod to my liking but after days of reading I see that its not as easy on the g2x. Can it be jailbroke? My other questions is how in the world can i get rid of apps currently on my device, i uninstall them and they pop right back up.
In Android world its call rooting. So the first thing you can do is root your phone. Read around how to do that. Then you should be able to uninstall any unnecessary app you do not like. After that you can install a custom kernel. Play with the over clock and under voltage on it. Then you can install a different rom like Cm7 or Miui.
There are lots of thing you can do with android. Thats why you think its not easy as iphone where you have only one option, jailbreak. Read around and take you time to play with you phone. Its not difficult at all and its lot of fun.
And BTW: Welcome to XDA.
First android phone here like you besides backflip which it was a temporary phone. It should be easy, it looked really complicated to me at first but I had a friend who walked me through everything. If u have any questions pm me or post in the thread. People here are glad to help. Welcome to XDA

The g2x is surprisingly easy to hack. Especially on Linux. it's all simply laid out in the stickies. I'd suggest installing a rom ( operating system) before the kernel. I think it'll wipe the kernel when a roms installed.
Warning, everything I tell you will void warrenty.
Root. Gains access to entire device.
Install Clockworkmod recovery. This allows you to install zip files, along with SD card partitions, etc.
Install custom rom. As an iPhone user I think you should check out MIUI.
install kernel. Not sure if there's other kernels for MIUI roms.
Kernels are dependent on the rom. You want to be sure the rom you have is supported by the kernel you're installing before hand.
Uh... oh.
ROM MANAGER , after you root, could be found on the market. You can install Clockwork recovery from there (it does it for you) as well as roms.
Makes it a breeze. Doubt it's easier on the iPhone.

You never want to uninstall the bloatware on a stock ROM as this will block any future OTA releases. The OTA and LG Updater checks your ROM and if it is not stock as it was delivered to you updates will fail the verification check. You want to buy an app from the Android Market called "Bloat Freezer." It only costs 99 cents and it freezes the apps - they don't run and are not shown in the menu; but since they are still in the ROM, just inactive, you can still get OTA updates. If you need to you can unfreeze the app at any time also. Much better way to go then deleting them.
I'm using AntTek app manager (free) to freeze my unwanted bloatware apps.
You're definitely guna love Android once you get the hang of flashing new ROMs and such.
Like you, i'm pretty new to this device also. So whenever if i feel the urge of doing something to my G2x, i always refer to this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049154
Good luck with your new G2x.
All true except this void warranty crap. If you pit everything back to stock before taking it T-Mobile there is Bo way whatsoever they know you changed anything. So don't listen to that part.

Actually the hardware keeps count of how many times the NAND has been flashed; but they never seem to look at that when you send it for warranty repair or replacement.
Wow thanks to everyone that has replied!! Coming from iphone forums you guys are awsome, everyone replied nice stuff and I didnt get beat up like noobs do on the iphone forums. I will read into rooting my phone, I love hacking phones and I think Android is the way to go.

[Q] missing apps after switching from Captivate to Skyrocket

I upgraded from the Captivate to the Skyrocket last week. I went to re-install my apps from the market, but it only showed about 3 of the free apps I had and all of 6 of the apps I paid for.
Any idea how I can get all of the apps I previously downloaded to show up in "my apps" as available for install? Or do I have to go through and re-install all of these 1 by 1?
Sometimes the market can be goofy like that.. you can wIt about 24 hours to see if they pop up. Or try and push menu settings applications manage applications... find market and clear the data then check. Or yes go find them one by one

tried both of those, but no luck. cleared the data multiple times, too.
Your gona have to find them each then. But hey if your rooted use titanium back up for future refrence
The market will limit your access to apps that will run on the version of Android you're using if the developer has specified it in the market listing.
What apps are you missing? I moved from a Captivate to a Skyrocket a well and I'm loving the speed upgrade.

I had about 160 apps or so D) prior to the switch. I have so far manually restored about 80 that I use all the time.
The Skyrocket has 2.3.5 on it right now, and I'm fairly positive that all the apps previously on my cappy supported Gingerbread.
also, I did use Titantium backup to backup all apps on the cappy as well as nandroid it. But I can't transfer them over to this phone I don't think... maybe?
The market "Should" have shown me everything that I had previously downloaded/installed (except for the APKs that I sideloaded.). It's annoying, but oh well. maybe this will force me to weed out some unwanted apps...
And yeah, the speed/performance difference between the cappy is HUGE. Also, I'm getting close to 24 hrs of moderate use on the SR, which dominates the cappy's 10-12hrs I was getting.
I'm loving the new SR over my old Captivate too. And the battery life is amazingly so much better as is the GPS!
However, when I go to check for software update I get that there is no update and I'm still on 2.3.5 on ATT. Not sure why it thinks I'm on the current version with all the talk about 2.3.6 up here...

same. Didn't see the update available for OTA.

you absolutely can transfer Titanium Backups over to the new phone. i do it all the time among all my devices. the only thing you have to remember is that you cant restore ALL apps, just restore MISSING apps+data

awesome. I have done this between similar versions using Titanium backup, just wasn't sure about going between 2.2-2.3 versions.
Haven't rooted yet, so guess I'll need to do that tonight to get 'er going.
I'm annoyed that the market didn't just take care of this for me. I believe it worked the last time I flashed, my captivate, but it has been awhile.

CRUSHED:2 month old Rocket Is now a Turtle HELP!

Used Superoneclick rooted two of these Skyrockets Running ST two months ago.Ive kept the 2.3.5 that came with it,and just put on golauncher or spb shell 3d.Never been happier. Both phones speedtest between 3-8m,just perfect for a non LTE smaller city..Just couldnt be happier.
But the incidents in the last three days have turned my jubilation to a bleak grey, crushed existence.Im seeing red and i ran here.I pray to the xda gods for wisdom and patience.
Few days ago being the noob i am (few easy roots in 3 years) i decided to meddle with my precious skyrocket, and its spb shell..Was getting errors of various sorts trying to re-install apps i shouldve payed for.(from now on i vow to pay for each and every paid apk i install-im so done) Including spb-though i payed for it on my g account,it was on my girls phone with my gmail as well, which i paid for it but only to be on her phone not mine...
Long story short i went arount deleting caches im sure i shouldnt and possibly cwm stuff too..i have no idea what i deleted exactly,or remember, because im a noob and an idiot.
Everything works fine on the phone but the one thing that matters the most to me..the data..the internet is so slow...Speedtest used to be around 4m or 6m,now im lucky if its .1m Takes 5-15 minutes for a small market app to download..
I can send and receive pic messages, make phone calls etc etc...
But my speed is gone... I called straight talk and of course they told me they dont throttle, instead they would cut my phone right off if i had downloaded too much..
I even tried changing apns,i used my girls sim,and that didnt even do it..
So finally i unrooted after one factory restore... still crawling..
so i just did another factory restore, still crawling..
One thing i can say is that at&t was trying to OTA a huge update in the previous days...but it wasnt installing...Maybe it installed something?
HELP ME puh puh pleeez
One simple question. Can you get into download mode? If you so you can flash the phone back to stock. You can download the firmware 2.3.6 from www.sammobile.com Just do a search on sgh-i727 and it bring up the list. you just need to make an account to get the download. I would start over and start fresh.
Also you may want to think about what you have running, what all apps you have running in the background that could be stealing up some of the data.

Per the whole being a noobie and idiot thing, what technically is "download mode"?
I can download SCREAMING fast w/wifi...
Please read some of this.

And more importantly, download mode.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21011261&postcount=5
thank you i will do this now brb
If you need more help, shoot me a pm and I will walk you through it.
ok well you asked if i could get into download mode... Which i just tried (for testing purposes-and without getting Odin etc etc)
it is saying DOWNLOADING-DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET....What do i do now?
the odin link is dead and am downloading the other stuff on my pc
You can just do a battery pull to get out of download mode and restart the phone.
Download odin from here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17548951&postcount=1
it still says downloading after pulling battery...should i unplug usb?
yes, because you do not have all the files yet. But this is good to know and it should not be any problems getting you back to square one.
If you're on stock 2.3.5 just download the kj2 modem and reflash in cwm no need for Odin.

Sounds like your cell network went to doodoo is all. Didn't sound like you were messing with it bad enough to break anything.
so let me ask you all this question...
If in fact my cell company is throttling me, thats usually a month-long thing? or is it permanente????

That is what i am understanding too!
But there is no other explanation for my issues...
Like i said,me and my gf both have new skyrockets, both for two months.
both have ST sims, same apns settings..
Her sim and phone are fine..her sim in mine is slow
MY sim in HER phone is slow...
Did two factory restores and upgraded from 2.3.5 to ICS..Still nothing..
It can only be throttling or hardware...
Wifi is fine...
So... what is it? Hardware or Throttling..i dont know
I can tell you the posts over @ Howards forum (straight talk forum) are growing rapidly for throttling issues...
Beleieve me,i REALLY want to beleive ST doesnt throttle,i think they may have finally started tho....
This may be a stretch,
But is there a place on xda where i could download the correct apn settings for a straight talk sim in this skyrocket?
yes yes i know there are many places where i can go find the settings to manually put them in,but for various reasons, i would like the actual file to load in apn backup and restore app....
Anyone know where i could snag that?

Go Backup to backup EVERYTHING

My apologies if I'm cluttering up the board with a topic that everyone but me knows all about, but holy cow I just found the best thing ever! (Okay, so that might be a slight exageration...)
But seriously folks, I just found Go Backup on the Android Market (Or Play Store or whatever the kids are calling it these days)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jiubang.go.backup.pro&feature=nav_result#?t=W10.
I've been a Titanium user forever, and it's certainly got more functionality that Go Backup the way you can manipulate apps and what not, but Go Backup is just a beast when it comes to backing up everything. It does sms, mms, contacts, apps with data, wifi access points, etc...
So when you want to switch ROMs and keep all your stuff, it's litterally like 1 click to backup everything and then 1 click to restore it all once you put a new ROM on.
One thing though is that I recomend turning on Airplane mode during the restore. I got a phone call in the middle of my restore and it loused things up so I had to start over.
It's quirky though. You might have to fiddle with the restore to get it to run all the way through, but it works. When it fails during the restore though it knows where it failed and will let you uncheck the parts that already succeeded. Pretty neat.
It's kind of like the old Mousetrap game. Where it was really awesome but something already failed during the execution so you'd have to nudge the guy into the water barrel to get it moving again. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, you are under 30 and should research how awesome board games used to be)
I don't work for the Go team. I'm not affiliated with them. I just thought it was cool and wanted the community to know about it.

Nice to see someone else on the planet that remembers them!
My dad started taking me to games their first year back in 1982. They've been gone now almost twice as long as they were here, and I still love the team and miss that game day experience. Now I'm a Hershey Bears season ticket holder. To quote Bob Dylan, Oh the times they are a changin'.
About Apps2zip, I just read the write up about it on the Market and it's not clear about if it backs up just the apps of if it backs up the app data as well. I used to use a terminal emulator command line script that created a flashable zip of all your apps, but it didn't include the app data. Does this one? (Normally I'd just try something instead of asking simple questions but that's a time consuming process and I don't feel like it  )

And what's the question?
The question is, how is someone doing this to my phones. I have seen plenty of posts where people are inquring how to root and install busybox. So the likelyhood of someone like me "accidentally" doing this to one phone is pretty much impossible. But 6??? I downloaded the busybox installer. Chose the option to remove it from my system. Factory reset. Downloaded the app again. It still says im rooted and still have busybox installed. I changed phones, carriers, phone numbers. Nothing works.

There is just 2 possible solutions:
1) Someone has physical access to your phones and like to play with them
2) You're buying already rooted phones

Thats tech-support here - PI next door.
You may be installing software that can root the phone without you knowing, or maybe buying rooted phones. Leave the BusyBox Installer uninstalled. It may somehow be rooting you. Install security software on your phone and it will usually tell you about root. And when getting a new phone, only download apps from the Google Play Store, and nowhere else. Any shady apps should be avoided on the Play Store.

There are a couple of other options you need to look into. Once someone have compromised your gmail (or any other email) accounts you're using with your phone, there is really no telling what they can install remotely. However, the few most important aspects are:
Don't ever buy a used or opened-box phone from some "friendly guy who has one too many".
Don't ever let your phone out of sight, where you cannot be sure nobody can touch it.
Don't ever let some un-professional service center handle your phone, especially after you've already been there.
Also, it is clear from your picture that you seem to be a rather attractive woman. This is also a disadvantage, since unfortunately there are a lot of creepy guys out there, with nothing better to do that to try to get some sneak shots and personal info from tech-innocent nurses. I advice you to find a hacker girlfriend to help you find out who's spying on you.
Good luck!
