[Q] CifsManager - Eee Pad Transformer Themes and Apps

Does CifsManager allow saving on the mounted folder? I tried opening a doc and editing, then saving it. But it wouldnt allow me to overwrite it, it was read only. Does CifsManager only allow one way transfer right now? Will it allow 2 way in the future?

I'd imagine that'd be the directory permission of the share

Hm, I tried making my folder share available with all permissions. And I set the security check boxes on all for everyone in the security tab. Still wont allow me to save over it..

tried at work, with windows server 2003. Still wouldnt allow me to save...has anyone have luck with saving/writing to the folders? Reading works perfect..
edit: nevermind, CIFS manager wouldnt work. But Mount Manage did!

csis manager
can someone tell what this app actually does cause i have not clue i am guessing it is something to do with file management and sharing those

Its for mounting and accessing network shared folders

is there a specific module that a kernel has to have to be able to use cifs?

Yes. It needs the cifs module to be loaded before it works

How to edit wpa_supplicant.conf ?

To use wifi at school I have to wpa corporate + TTLS etc, and g-tablet does not support that. In one of the earlier post one person suggested that I use "wifi advanced configuration editor", but the secured signal does not show up so there is nothing for me to edit. I tried to manually add the wifi connection via "setting" but I can't.
I know what wpa_supplicant.conf looks like on my Pandigital Novel; if I could edit this file on my g-tablet then I should be okay, right? Any suggestions on how to do this editing? (sheepishly looking at my back) I still can't get ADB working with my g-tab, and in any case I assume there would be issue with permission...
Thanks!
if you can get root you can use root explorer to turn R/W access on to the conf file in /data/misc/wifi and edit the conf in text editor. You may be asking for more but that is where I was editing mine to get ad-hoc mode on. Sorry I dont know the exact settings to tell you to make the actual edits.

Add it using the normal Android tool, assuming it's hidden? Anyway, then modify it with the WiFi Advanced Config Editor. It's always possible the firmware here isn't working well with that app, but if it's a hidden AP you might need to manually add, then edit.

By "normal android tool" I assume you mean "setting" -- that's what I used on the pandigital novel anything. But as I said in the OP, g-tablet does not allow me to manually add an entry, so I can't use the wifi config editor :-( I also tried the app "full wifi" but I (rather, g-tablet) does not seem to be able to save the connection so created.
I'll look into root explorer as mentioned in post #2 and see how it goes... If you have better/different ideas please do share it with us!

Anyway to stream CBR files or assign them to open with an app?

Trying to stream cbrs and cbzs from my network. I can see the files fine but I can't open them unlike avis which will allow me to pick an app to open it with. Is there a work around for this?
use CIFS (it's built into the primordial rom).
when you mount a CIFS share, as far as your tablet is concerned the files are local.
for example.
\\My Server\My Files\My Comics
can be mounted in
/sdcard/media/comics
and comic reader mobi, or whatever you use, will see them in /sdcard/media/comics (or wherever you want to mount it)
I downloaded the app and set the share path to 192.168.0.100/comics which where they are and the /sdcard/Comics and username anon. But it gives me an error when I try to mount. Did I do something wrong?

you running a rom that supports CIFS? dont think stock will work.... but in CIFS manager options, check both boxes (load CIFS module, load via insmod)

tested with a free comic and the comic reader mobi app, using CIFS on Primordial 3.1... works fine, streams comics from my network via wifi.
Ah I'm on stock... that might be why. Thanks for the info.
yea, if checking those boxes doesnt work for you, you need a kernel that supports CIFS.
you'd have to downgrade to .9, factory reset, root, then install a 3.1 rom with CIFS support.

[Q] Download Files From Google Drive

Hi ,
I uploaded some pictures on my Gmail Drive yesterday via Laptop.
When I use the Android Google Drive Client on my Gingerbread , I have options of viewing it or making it offline.
Is there any way of downloading the pictures to my SD card ?
Making it offline doesn't help because once I remove the Google Drive App from my Droid , I will no longer be able to view that picture.
I want a permanent download so that my downloaded pictures appear in my gallery even after un-installation of Google Drive.
EDIT: [SOLVED]
Disable encryption via settings, and the files are accessible in the below folder. Thank the man

The files seem to be in the google docs application folder, which on my system is found in /mnt/sdcard/Android/Data/com.google.android.apps.docs/files/pinned_docs_Files_do_not_edit/*CRAZY FOLDER NUMBER*
However, viewing the files does not work. It seems that this is a feature they have not included (for whatever reason).
Dropbox lets you export files.
You could also try another service called "Box".
KeePassDroid with Google Drive
I was going to create a new thread but in searching found this one. I'll use this one as maybe it applies with certain features not yet being implemented? Or am I overlooking or doing something wrong? I'll keep this simple. I use KeePass V1.x and KeepassDroid to keep my passwords in sync. It works great with DropBox. I have my database stored in the cloud and whenever I make a revision, it syncs across all my devices. Being the Google Whore I am, I was excited to try it with Google Drive. NO GO!
I can access the file and open the database with KeePassDroid without any issues. If I make a change and try to save it I get the following error. /data/data.com.google.android.apps.docs/cache/filecache2/123456789/databasename.kdb.tmp: open failed: EACESS (permissions denied). It won't let me write back to the database like DropBox will.
When I made the file available off-line, it would let me save the file, but it would not save that file back to the cloud. Do you think it's a permission issue on my side, or a limitation right now with Google Drive? Quick side note: I'm using a ported version of ICS but not really having any other issues. But if others are able to write back with a 3rd party app, then maybe it is something to do with the port....just a thought? If anybody has any ideas....Thanks!

It *seems* to me like a limitation with their software. The fact that you can't even use the files outside of google drive/docs despite them being there indicates that either the files are encrypted, or in some other non-standard format. Uploading probably doesn't work because the file you put there are in the wrong format for the software to use them.
I switched back to Dropbox (which I never REALLY left) because of this. As a way to move files to your phone (like .zips to flash), Google drive falls short.

Send them clear, direct feedback. Maybe they'll change it. After all, the product was just launched
Same here. I suspect G will change over time .

Glad to see this thread. First thing I did was try to copy a file to my SD Card from Gdrive. Just keeps trying to open them. Only option I had was send to Dropbox from Gdrive and export from there. Kind of a waste of time.
Just wait and see what features they add on. Its still very early.
Is your phone rooted? Using ES file explorer, and having the "up to root" toggle enabled, if I went to the root directory /mnt/sdcard/download directory all of the 4 files I synced with google drive were able to be copied using ES file explorer without any problem at all.
It's a bit annoying, but for now it works for me!

I could copy them no problem. The problem is, copied or not, they're unviewable.
Are you sure you are looking in the folder I mentioned, or are you looking in the folder that does not require root access? There is a link to those files in the directory that doesn't require root but even the thumbnail doesn't appear there.
Shrug, I pulled photos and a pc executable from that folder and copied it onto my SD card using the move option in ES file explorer which allowed me to email them to a friend.
How to enable Google Driver on my phone ?, i have download from Google Play but it's display not available in my country, hmm
When I went to the drive.google site after I installed the PC application it gave me a url to download the mobile app. I made sure "install non-market applications" was selected in my phone settings, opened up that site in my phone's browser, and installed it.
So I seem to have managed to get files from google drive onto my phone and tablet. I use an app called officesuite pro. I've got it on my prim and sgs2. It is a paid app but it connects to remote servers, google docs(drive), dropbox etc. If you access your files through there, you can copy the file, doc, zip whatever is on your google drive, and paste it to a local drive. All intact and usable.
This is crazy. As soon as my Drive was ready I transferred all my DB files to it thinking I'm all Google, so lets use it! Yeah, I can't access any of my files. With DB I could just long press a name, and download. Guess it's back to DB until Drive can do it too. Nice otherwise.

The folder you said was:
/mnt/sdcard/download , right?
I have the folder ( with a capital "D" though), except there are none of the files I made offline with drive in it.

Thanks for the tip. Still, might shame to have to jump through such hoops. The other question is: does it work with non-doc files?

same here. disappointing. but i hope they will change it in the future.
Yeah, it works with any type of file, I used it to download a zip. You can do it with jpegs too but you have to make it show unsupported files. Also, another way, probably easier is to log into google drive through your browser, you can download direct from there i've noticed. Just click on the file and it should give you the option to dl. Shame they haven't put this in the app.

Funny I was just trying this. It does work, but it renames the file to some long weird label. Have you found a way to keep it the same name?
To be honest, i've not really tried it through the browser but when I download it through officesuite pro, it retains the original file name.

Mounting remote file systems (CIFS/NFS/SSHFS)?

Is it possible to mount a remote file system, either SMB/Samba/CIFS, NFS or SSHFS?
If so how?
Do I have to root to do this?
The big question is what you are trying to do/access on the remote share.
From the way your question was phrased, it sounds like you just want system wide access. It would probably be easier just to get specific apps with remote share support for what you're trying to do.
There are quite a few file explorers and media players that have the SMB client support you're looking for.
ES file explorer and Solid Explorer both have share drive access that you can setup.
I've been using BSplayer for videos and it also has SMB support. I'm sure that plenty of others have it as well.
***Edit***
Going this route also means that you shouldn't need root access to reach the network shares.

Is there some reason I don't want system wide access?
It seems to me that requiring apps to have some kind of remote access would limit the apps I use.
What I mainly want is to treat remote files the same way I would treat local files in three circumstances: when seen in a file manager, when seen in an open dialog box, and when seen in a "save as" dialog box. The last two in particular for any app I wish to use not necessarily just those that are particularly enabled to do it.
.
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but are there any roms or kernels available with cifs support? I've been looking around but can't seem to find anything...

Question about controlling specifics of the storage permission in Marshmallow and up

Hi,
I was thinking the other day about apps which request more permissions than they should need.
Let's say I download an app, such as a photo editor and that app rightfully needs permission for Storage access. But what if I did not trust the developer of the application and I wanted to ensure it didn’t start to go ahead and read/write files which I did not want it to have access to?
I can find modules and apps to control permissions, but they are just on/off toggles, not more granular. Is there anything I can use to force it to only have read/write access to certain files/folders instead of an all or nothing storage / no storage permission?
The only thing I could find that looks similar to what I am trying to do, is an Xposed module called XinternalSD, but I could not get it working for the above scenario. It looked like I might be able to make apps see the internal sd card as being a subfolder, but it didn’t seem to work out this way when I tried.
I still haven't been able to find anything that can do this. Does anyone have any ideas?
