In one of the earlier post one person suggested that I use "wifi advanced configuration editor", but the secured signal does not show up so there is nothing for me to edit. I tried to manually add the wifi connection via "setting" but I can't.
I know what wpa_supplicant.conf looks like on my Pandigital Novel; if I could edit this file on my g-tablet then I should be okay, right? Any suggestions on how to do this editing? (sheepishly looking at my back) I still can't get ADB working with my g-tab, and in any case I assume there would be issue with permission...

if you can get root you can use root explorer to turn R/W access on to the conf file in /data/misc/wifi and edit the conf in text editor. You may be asking for more but that is where I was editing mine to get ad-hoc mode on. Sorry I dont know the exact settings to tell you to make the actual edits.

Add it using the normal Android tool, assuming it's hidden? Anyway, then modify it with the WiFi Advanced Config Editor. It's always possible the firmware here isn't working well with that app, but if it's a hidden AP you might need to manually add, then edit.

By "normal android tool" I assume you mean "setting" -- that's what I used on the pandigital novel anything. But as I said in the OP, g-tablet does not allow me to manually add an entry, so I can't use the wifi config editor :-( I also tried the app "full wifi" but I (rather, g-tablet) does not seem to be able to save the connection so created.
I'll look into root explorer as mentioned in post #2 and see how it goes... If you have better/different ideas please do share it with us!

Hm, I tried making my folder share available with all permissions. And I set the security check boxes on all for everyone in the security tab. Still wont allow me to save over it..
tried at work, with windows server 2003. Still wouldnt allow me to save...has anyone have luck with saving/writing to the folders? Reading works perfect..
edit: nevermind, CIFS manager wouldnt work. But Mount Manage did!

I've put together an 8 minute video guide that demonstrates how (using an FTP
server) you can transfer files between your Phone and a computer over a WiFi
home network (natively through Windows explorer).
I've tried to make it fairly beginner friendly and its available in all resolutions including 1080p:

HELP & FAQ:
Applying the tutorial to an older Windows OS:
Windows Vista:
As far as I can recall, the method shown in my video should be virtually (if not completely) identical for Windows Vista Users. If you think I've missed something though, please let me know and I'll update accordingly.
Windows XP:
Mapping the Android FTP Server location in Windows XP should also work just fine. However, I don't think you can access the "add new network location" wizard in the manner shown in the video at 03:30 (I could be wrong). From memory - I believe you need to do the following instead:
a) Open 'My Computer' from the start menu or desktop shortcut
b) From the 'TOOLS' menu select 'MAP NETWORK DRIVE'
c) Click the link "Sign up for Online Storage or Connect to a Network Server"
d) Select "Choose a custom Network Location"
e) I think this should bring you pretty much back in line with the video at 03:45
Mac OS:
I'm not a Mac expert, but perhaps you can try the following...
Follow the video up to the point where I switch over to my PC (03:15), then try this on your Mac:
a) Press Command+K to launch the “connect to server” dialogue
b) Enter the Wifi/FTP URL from the phone app into the address field
c) Click on the “+” icon if you want to save as a favourite
d) Press Connect
e) Enter your Username and Password when prompted & press connect again
f) You should then be able to browse the contents of your phone as a local folder.
g) Rejoin video at 06:50
Web Browser:
Although the aim of this video is to avoid having to use a web browser, you can enter the 'WiFi URL' generated by the Android App (visible at 03:05) into the address bar of any FTP enabled web browser (eg. Firefox / Internet Explorer).
TROUBLESHOOTING
Worked Initially, then stopped:
If you were initially successful in getting everything to work, but some time later you find that you can't connect - this may be related to your router's DHCP configuration. Some routers allocate IP addresses on a dynamic/time lease basis. If your router is configured in this way, your phone's IP address may change every time it re-connects to your local network (thus invalidating the WiFi URL that we copied from your phone during the tutorial). If this is the case, you'll need to refer to your router's documentation and try to assign a static IP to your phone.
Error 550 (CHMOD):
If this error crops up immediately upon trying to access a location on your phone (eg. a sub folder), you have probably entered an invalid path in the "Stay Within Folder" field during the app configuration. Double check the path that you entered and make sure that you didn't accidentally deleted the preceding slash (/) too.
If this error only appears when trying to delete or move files, it could be a couple of things. Do check the steps mentioned in the above paragraph, but also remember what I mentioned in the video about avoiding paths that act as a shortcut to another folder. For example, don't enter "/sdcard" in the "Stay Within Folder" field during configuration of the app. On my phone, this results in read only access to the MicroSD card. I found that I needed to specify the full path (eg. "/mnt/sdcard") to obtain full Read/Write access.
Invalid Handle Error:
This error may occur when trying to move or delete files from your phone. If so:
1) Double check (in the FTP server setup on your phone) that you haven't added a trailing slash (/) after the path specified in the "Stay Within Folder" field.
2) You can also get this error if you start the FTP server, then launch an app that needs access to the folder containing the files you want to move or delete (eg. The Camera / gallery app). Simply exiting the app may solve this. If not:
a) exit your app
b) Stop the FTP server using the home screen widget
c) Restart the FTP server using the home screen widget
d) try again before launching your app.
No WIFI URL:
If you start the FTP server but don't receive a Wifi URL, double check that your phone's WiFi connection is turned on. This may sound obvious, but it could be an easy one to overlook.
Firewall Issues:
If you're convinced that you have everything set up correctly but you simply can't connect to the server - a firewall could be the cause of your problems..
If you're not familiar with firewalls, you may want to disconnect from the internet and temporarily disable your firewall completely to see if this solves your problem. If it does, at least you'll have a starting point. If not, you may need to look a little closer at any filtering rules on your router.
Unfortunately I can't help troubleshoot every possible combination, but generally speaking, you should double check that your internal network is configured as a trusted zone and that there are rules allowing (or no rules blocking) traffic on the required port ip / address etc. For example, 'ESET Smart Security' users will probably want to pay specific attention to the 'Network Filtering' options.

Regarding AOKP 4.0.4, are you using a Galaxy SII / Nexus? If so, I think I've heard about people having trouble with widgets before. I think you have to drag them out of the widget draw instead. Does that make sense?

No I'm using a sensation. Tried adding it by the widget menu and it didnt work. Then I rebooted to get the widget to show in the widget drawer so I can drag it but it didn't show up.

Hmm.. In that case I'm afraid I really don't know. Unfortunately I've never tested AOKP, so I don't have any first hand experience to go on.
Off the top of my head, my suggestion would be to try widgets from several other market apps and see if any of them act in the same way. I realise that won't solve your problem, but it could go some way towards establishing the source of it.

I’ve actually used AirDroid before, but while it is a great app in its own right - its file management capabilities only seem to go as far as letting you export stuff from your MicroSD card in a zip archive.
The method I show in the video is certainly more cumbersome initially (hence the reason for making it), but I find the end result more functional for simply copying/moving/deleting files.

Tried some of the free ones on the market but still no luck of finding one with a widget. Will search tomorrow for paid ones there must be one with a widget! haha

Please let me know how you get on. I don't have a mac to hand, so it would be good to know that I'm not adding useless info to the FAQ
The apn type and adding dun to it use to work.... I made a thread on it about a year ago. I'm still able to get my msl code but all the apns are greyed out and you can't edit any of them now. It was great having a working HOTSPOT!
With that said.........
So far I have found the apn-conf.xml in the /system folder. I can edit and save with no problem...... now in that file at the top it say it must match the res/common/xml/apn.xml or something very similar to that.
It took me awhile to find this file but I have FOUND IT!!! (If you use apk editor and select the 2nd option to view system files/apks). Look for servicemode.apk and browse that .apk, in the /res/xml folder you will find the apns.xml file!!! I found a few good files like apn-editor.xml and apn-settings.xml in the settings apk.
I downloaded APK Editor in the play store and started poking around. The file is a system all called servicemode.apk, if you decompile the file and check the res folder and look in the xml folder TADA, YOU WILL FIND THE APNS.XML file....... so that's as far as I have got. When viewing this APN.XML file I can't figure out how to edit it to match the system/apns-conf.xml file.
Now in the apk editor you can view the strings or files..... I used the file option and looked at all the strings..... they can be edited.
ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED! I looked thru the settings and service mode til all also so I'm getting confused and maybe a fresh pair of eyes and a clear mind can help figure this out. I been trying along time now!

Anyone find a way around to making the HOTSPOT unlimited??? I'm on a tight income and would love to be able to watch Netflix and use my Chromecast but can't afford cable and internet at the moment. I know boost has the 8gig hotspot already and a promo for a 20gig HOTSPOT but having a 11 year old son playing Xbox one online constantly....... don't last long. In my first HOTSPOT thread it was so simple just adding dun. I have a month to month plan 60$ just to be specific for others. I do believe min phones and pay as you go might be different. I can only speak for me and my device. Please any insight on these apn files that I been finding is GREATLY APPRECIATED!

No matter what I try, I don't get the bluetooth option when I want to share a file. I've even paired with the other phone, tried other file managers, but no luck.
I'll select the file, select the share option, and then get a popup listing what appears to be frequent/recent contacts over various apps in the top row, then a row with what seems to be frequent/recent apps, then an app list, but nowhere is bluetooth an option. I've scrolled up, down, left, right, I've done everything obvious and slightly less obvious that I could think of. Is this a bug, or some stupid security setting or something? The internet is full of bluetooth related issues with the Pixel 2, it seems, but none I've found addresses this issue.

Bluetooth can only share text files and photos , so it depends on what type of file is being shared. If you want to share other type of files(other than text and photos) then just rename the last part of file name to txt,pdg, mp4, the Bluetooth share Option is available after being shared just rename file to it original name the file will be back.

That most definitely is not a limitation. I can share that same file from another phone over Bluetooth.

I have a list of about 100 WiFi SSIDs and passwords that I've extracted from my old phone and I want to add them to the new phone that runs Android 10 and I couldn't find any useful information on the internet as everything seems outdated and not working.
The closest thing I've found is this: https://github.com/steinwurf/adb-join-wifi but I had to write a script, it adds only one network at the time and it doesn't work very well because often the networks aren't added and I also have problems escaping the SSID and passwords.
I've also tried to look for wpa_supplicant.conf but apparently it's not used anymore on Android 9 and 10, instead I've found a file called WifiConfigStore.xml but I'm not sure if and how it can be edited manually. Then I read I should use wpa_cli to add the networks but I get a service error when I run it. I also looked for Android apps but nothing like I need.

Well, there's one way: Titanium Backup
It can restore your wifi SSIDs and passwords from an xml file named
com.keramidas.virtual.WIFI_AP_LIST-20191012-065050.tar.gz
(file is inside the archive). This file contains SSID and password in plaintext.

Inside the archive there's WifiConfigStore.xml which I've already found it. The format doesn't look trivial to me so this idea is not really usable. But thanks!
