This is the Pick-n-Pack ROM for the EE19 build of the Mesmerize. For those that do not know, PnP is a simple stock, deodexed ROM with the bloat removed and repackaged into flashable add-on packs. This was originally done to give users an option to put back certain pieces that would normally be thrown out by most people. The modular design gives a more customizable build for each individual.
Thanks to Baked Tator for the power options and puzzle lock. I'm sure he will be along shortly to start updating themes for it.
Thanks to ehoba for the edify script. Without him, I'd still be beating my head against it and wanting to give in to the ease of amend.
I would definitely like to say thanks to those that make the switch with me over to rootzwiki. I know I only represent and build for a very small demographic, but I hope I can bring something to this forum to help it grow.
Instructions:
You should be on EE19 to flash this. Flash from recovery. As with any flash, you should wipe dalvyk. It's possible that you may get FC's from gmail. If so, wipe data from gmail and re-enter your info. This should clear things up.
If you want any of the stock apps that were removed, they are in the addons packs. Unzip the main pack and find the one/ones you are looking for and flash in recovery. Apps are grouped and named accordingly.

I just flashed this, had newest hz57 on there previously. I flashed the main file, then attempted the first file in the addons, which is the allshare stuff... got this in CWM:
amend scripting is no longer supported. stuff stuff words words...
please switch to edify scripting to create working zip packages.
installation aborted.
I have CWM 3.0.2.8x.ti
Am I missing a step here or what?
Sounds like the addons need to be flashed in CWM 2.5. I could be wrong but normally when I get that error that is what it means
Tap-a-Talked from my Mesmerize
But it says in the OP for the EE19 PnP that you need CWM3...

I would guess Phidelt just forgot to update the .zips to edify. Give him time and I'm sure he'll get it fixed as it should be a pretty easy correction.
Its possible he used the addons from the previous PnP. So that the addons are ammend but the actual PnP file is edify.
Tap-a-Talked from my Mesmerize
I guess it's actually the least of my worries... I cannot even get it to boot with the new PnP. I didn't realize because I was trying to install the addons immediately after flashing the new PnP in the same session... Upon failing, I thought I'd throw the stock EE19 on there and try again but same problem. Just keeps booting into CWM. I even tried a different CWM I was using the odin CWM, then changed to the HZ57 green CWM3, same prob.

I believe that is exactly the problem. I pritty sure that the Add Ons are not using edify scripts yet.
I also ran into the none booting problem after flashing the EE19 PnP. What i did was odin a 2.5x recovery an flashed everything from there and i got it to boot.

So you can flash the EE19 PnP from CWM 2.5?
Yeah. 2.5 will flash ammend and edify
Tap-a-Talked from my Mesmerize
oops... yeah. I have to redo the scripts for the addons. I was too excited about getting done with the PnP that I didn't redo the scripts for them. I'll get them redone as soon as I can.
----EDIT-----
done and uploaded.
There seems to be a conflict with some versions of CWM 3.x that are causing the problem of bootlooping into recovery. To fix this until I can get the script fixed, just flash CWM 2.5 again.
As soon as I get this fixed, I'll post a new build.
Edited OP with new version that now works with CWM3.x
So what themes can be used with this ROM?

I'm not sure that the themers have updated anything yet. If so, the themes will list EE19 as being a compatible build. EC10 themes will work, but it will drop part of your build back to EC10 and you will lose the fixes of the build.

I know Tator's been busy with family in town and I am not up to speed on theme porting yet (I am trying!). Once he has some time and I can clear up the couple stumbling blocks I am running into we will be able to get the theme's updated to this version on PnP. Patience is key

Hey guys,
I got my first real smart phone about a week ago, it was a USC Samsung Mesmerize. Yesterday I stumbled upon rooting when trying to figure out how to remove useless pre installed apps. All I really want is a slim & fast version & to be able to keep my navigation.
I've had experience with flashing; Xbox 360 & PSP's. So I kind of jumped into this and ended up bricking my phone. Or damn close.
From looking at the back of my phone it says Galaxy S, so I went in that section and downloaded/flashed this originally (caused brick):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940671
I did everything up to step 7, except it wouldnt boot past the splash screen.
So then came panic time...
I eventually reflashed with a new rom for the correct phone, This one to be exact:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944671
My question is:
What have I really done now that I run on this rom?
I still cant uninstall preloaded software.
I would be willing to flash a new rom so I can have a faster phone.
But really no one makes it clear enough in there guides about how this process actually works.
my best guess is after I flashed with that rom I will be able to upgrade to a better rom?
What is FROYO EA11?
What is voodoo?
First off, consequences will never be the same...
You are now running a STOCK (leaked) 2.2 ROM, with a stock kernel and USCC App Bloat.
If you want a fast Android 2.2 with stock apps removed, do this:
1. Flash the EA11 + recovery via Odin, following the steps here.
2: Download the EA11 voodoo kernel found here and flash.
3: Boot into recovery and run update.zip (this will push you to a red clockwork recovery)
HINT: If you aren't familiar with clockwork recovery, the controls are slightly different. You use still use the volume buttons to navigate, but the power button is now used to execute selections and the search softkey to go back.
4: select install .zip from sdcard
5: select the voodoo .zip and confirm
This will install the new kernel and replace your recovery (which used to require booting into the Samsung recovery before making your way to the clockwork recovery by installing update.zip from sdcard) with a clockwork recovery that will look identical to the one you had after running update.zip, but can enable your newly acquired lagfix.
6: enable voodoo lagfix, and rejoice!
6: Optionally install the Pick and Pack ROM found here. (I WOULD!)
(Credits to MesmerizeUser for these steps, I copypasta'd and edited.)
Good luck with your back-tracing! Let us know if any steps are unclear.
Also, the payed version of Titanium Backup will let you "freeze" stock apps, so they don't appear in your menus, and they won't run, but you can "thaw" them whenever you like.
PS - FROYO EA11 is a leaked Android 2.2 ROM for the Mesmerize. Google names Android releases after deserts, like Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, etc.
Voodoo is a name of the kernel which changes your EXT2 partition (old school) to EXT4 (new school), and makes your file system much faster.

OK, first of all, welcome. You've come to the right place to do several things. The first of which is to learn. Don't freak out. You're phone is in good hands here in this forum. Unless you really try hard, you can't do much to actually bork it up so bad that we can't fix it.
So, what you have done up to this point is update your phone to the leaked 2.2 firmware. It's not a ROM, it's actually the full firmware. If you want to remove bloat, the easiest way is to now install my EA11 Pick-n-Pack ROM, which already probably lighter than you want it. The good thing, is that it also has an addons pack that you can download to put anything back on that you want. Everything is there in easily flashable zip files. You just have to look inside if you don't see the actual name of something in particular. (ie. calendar is in SamsungandTouchWiz.zip) Now if you want faster with your new light weight ROM, go with the EA11 Voodoo kernel to help boost you up as well. This isn't a final build, as we don't have source code yet so understand this is just a small improvement on the stock kernel. Now, if you want to get all the way back to stock 2.1, might I suggest this thread to help with that. And for some help getting to know a little about everything, pop over to the irc channel in my signature and talk to anyone that happens to be there. We're here to help. If they don't answer, they've probably stepped away. Some of us hang out there and leave the computer idle while we're doing other things.
Again, welcome aboard. I hope some of that info helped you out.
first off...welcome...second if i would have done that i think i may have left a mess in my pants...but seems like you got it running good again plz trust me when i say listen to phidelt82, he will not give you any wrong advise...because of him and a few others, my phone kicks ass and im actually trying to learn how to make themes and roms (dont know much but learning), so yea...you came to the right place to make your phone truly your (with there software...lol)

There most likely is no reason to go back to stock 2.1, correct? My shot in the dark is the reason you would want to is to not get usc on your back and larger selection of stable roms and kernels?

the voodoo kernel is modified with a lag fix. it will speed up your phone a bit. there is a program in the market called quadrant. run the full benchmark and you will get an idea of how your phone stacks up against others and will also give you a base score for your phone. if you do not have voodoo kernel installed your score will be around 800-900, after voodoo your score will be up around 1500.
the pick-n-pack rom lets you addon via the pnpaddons file, stuff you want on your phone prior to flashing. you pick what you want and flash it.
yes it is "a light rom with the ability to add the removed pre-load apps"
the leaked froyo and the voodoo kernel are very nice, i wouldn't go back to eclair 2.1 unless you needed to return the phone to uscc for whatever reason.
good luck and happy flashing.
Just an update guys, Thanks to phidelt82 I am now running 2.2 PnP w/ Voodoo Kernel.
The diffrence is night and day, used to get slow w/ a little lag every now and then. Now its always fast. Thanks again.

Sweet 1506 here.
and dont forget for roms you may flash... you can not UNINSTALL phone apps..... via the 'manage applications' menu.
you have to use a program like Root Explorer and physically DELETE them from the /system/app folder along with other folders they reside in.
only Cyanogen (i think) allows for uninstalling for actual phone programs.

You can also un-install stock apps with Titanium Backup.
Also, it seems like you're rushing into this a little bit.
Relax getting into the dev community is like getting into a slightly chilly pool, you need to ease in.
That said, welcome, and I look forward to seeing you around.

The only apps that I could unpackage and load really were the uscc one's. sounds like you tried to flash the big .zip (won't work) then you unzipped the individual's and tried to flash?
You need to unzip the big pack, then flash the individual .zip's in CWM (you don't unzip the individuals, leave them as .zip then flash - you can go one after another until you're all done, then reboot)
Thank you, you were right and fixed my problem, appreciate the help a lot

In order to cut down on the confusion I created a new thread for the latest update. Version 4.24.651.1 can be found here.
Stock 4.22.651.2 ROM, rooted and ready for your flashing pleasures. This is a completely stock ROM that has had nothing done to it outside of rooting, zip aligning and de-odexing. As always, create a nandroid before flashing.
Notes:
-The Firmware (Radio, WiMAX and PRI) can be flashed by renaming the file to PC36IMG, placing it in the base folder of your sd card and then turning the phone on while holding volume down.
-Odexed means faster first boot and smaller memory footprint but is not themable, de-odexed means a long first boot and slightly larger memory footprint but can be themed.
Stock Update
Stock ROM with SU Fix - No Wipe Needed If Coming From A Stock Sense ROM:
4.22.651.2 Rooted & Odexed - updated 06/05/11

These are flashable copies of the rooted stock 4.12.651.1 ROM for the Evo. The only things that have been changed from the leak is the boot.img has been unlocked and SU & busybox have been added. You can find the partition folders these were made from in the original thread here.
Screen filter from the market can be used to adjust brightness for those with novatek panels. (Thank you to whoever posted about that first, sorry but I didn't catch who that was)
If you are already using a Sense ROM you should be ok wiping the dalvik-cache and flashing over top of it. Otherwise you will need to wipe your Data partition.

Brightness fix
The kernel in this leaked version is unfinished, there's no code for the brightness change for Notatek LCD screens. Brightness Is Only working for people with Epson LCD screens.
For those of us with Notatek screens, just replace the stock kernel with the stock HTC #15 from the latest stable update:
HTC kernel #15
Problem solved. Brightness now works.
Please add to OP!
Update: Make sure you wipe cache and dalvik cache after you flash that kernel, otherwise you will likely get a bootloop or black screen.

I just couldn't correct the eri.xml in framework-res.apk to remove "Verizon Wireless" from the top bar (cosmetic I know, but it bugged me--I'm picky like that), and... BDE sorta had his port done several hours before mine anyway. I can't take any credit whatsoever for these links, this is all his porting work.
WARNING: READ BEFORE FLASHING!!
This ROM was designed using the newer (for us) yaffs2/ext4 filesystem. Excepting CM7MTD, no other ROM uses this filesystem. As a result, this ROM uses CWM 4, and once you flash, you CANNOT flash any other ROM from Recovery. Should you have issues with the flash, or want to return to a different non-MTD ROM, you will need to Odin all the way back to stock. See post #2 for instructions.
SHOWCASE USERS: This is especially critical for Showcase users, as Cell South has prevented Odin flashing packages for the Showcase. IF YOU USE A CELLSOUTH SHOWCASE AND WANT TO FLASH BACK TO A DIFFERENT ROM, FIND A WORKING ODIN PACKAGE FIRST.
As always, the standard warning applies: I am not responsible for what may happen to your phone as a result of flashing this ROM, properly or improperly. No warranty whatsoever. You have been warned.

The biggest thanks go out to jt1134. NONE of this (including CM7MTD) would be possible if it weren't for the work he's done for the Fascinate, Mesmerize, and Showcase.
Andmer has also been critical to making this happen. He was the one to take JT's work, use his AOSP source, and build a working MIUI port for the Fascinate. Both he and JT continue to modify the ROMs and Kernels for MTD that we enjoy to work towards getting that hardware working.
Without these guys, there would be no port for us.
I'd like to thank lmartin92 for his tremendous help and knowledge. He worked tirelessly with me to get this working. Similarly, bdemartino has been a huge help in all around, as well specifically making sure we could get the "fascinatemtd" SMS padding code implemented into CM7MTD, and therefore MIUI MTD. Lastly, I'd like to thank Akellar for getting some Framework-res cosmetic edits working when I could not.
1.6.24 Note: Again, these are actually BDE's ports, not mine, I can't take any credit.
ROM Details
Update Schedule: MIUI receives weekly official updates, and Andmer has said he intends to port them to the Fascinate on that same schedule. I intend to port from his work on that same schedule, and once my overlay is fully worked out, it should take me only as long as it takes to apply it and upload. This thread will be updated every time a new ROM is released. I'll try to keep one or two previous week's ROM links just in case.
Radio: This ROM does not flash a radio, so it should use whatever radio you had before you flashed. This ROM is built for a Mesmerize/Showcase radio (making it an actual Mesmerize port), so if you're using the Fascinate EC01 radio, you'll want to either flash the EC10 or EE19 radios (typically by flashing the stock versions of those ROMs). Don't worry if you flash those ROMs; everything else (except the radio) will get overwritten.
Recovery: In order to support the yaffs2/ext4 filesystem, this ROM uses CWM 4. As a result, the normal "three finger Recovery" method does not work. Similarly, although the ROM includes a "Reboot into Recovery" menu option after holding power, that does not boot into recovery. The only method of getting into recovery at this point is to either use ADB or a Terminal Emulator app.
Within Terminal Emulator, type the bolded, underlined text:
su (enter; this grants SuperUser rights to Terminal Emulator)
reboot recovery (enter)
This should properly reboot the phone into Recovery mode.
Working:
Calls
Bluetooth!!
3G / Data
WiFi
SMS
Camera/Camcorder!!
USB mass storage / sdcard
GPS
ALL Sensors!!
Not Working/Known Issues:
MMS
Calls/SMS during deep sleep mode are not waking up the device to ring.
This app will prevent your device from deep sleep which is of course a battery drain, but you will receive calls. Whether its worth it or not is up to you.

How to Flash
Copy the ROM to your SDcard.
Reboot phone into recovery, flash ROM as normal.
Make sure to wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache if you are coming from a non-MTD ROM, and possibly even CM7MTD.
Flash MIUI ROM from SD card.
The "MIUI" branded flash script will appear, and quickly disappear. THIS IS NORMAL. This verifies if CWM 4 is installed (on the first time through it will not be), and if not, installs it. The phone should reboot once again into recovery, but it will be standard CWM 4 Orange recovery.
Flash the ROM from your SD card once more. Note that the softkeys have changed; use the Search key as "Enter". The flash should proceed as normal.
1.6.24.1: Flash the 1.6.24.1 patch to correct all sensors.
Reboot phone when complete.
When your phone reboots, you should see the normal Samsung logo, and then a Galaxy S/CyanogenMod 7 logo. This will be followed by the MIUI.us boot screen, which is a moving starfield with a spinning globe.
Welcome to GB MIUI!

HOW TO GO BACK TO NON-MTD ROMS
Kanged from the Fascinate forums with immense thanks to kidserious, and referencing the "Files to get your Mesmerize back to stock 2.1 and 2.2.1" guide from Phidelt82
Things you'll need:
Odin
Working Odin package for your phone model
If you don't already have these, here are some links (sorry, Mesmerize stock ROM only):
Odin: http://download1422.mediafire.com/ii578172dylg/429fcpdtpckkcea/Odin3+v1.83.exe
EC10 Odin Package: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=N6JNT1ZE
Whatever Odin package you use must have a full bootloader included in the flash. EC10 should work, EE19 may not. I'm unable to advise which Showcase Odin package would work, I'm not familiar enough and they're not generally available.
STEP-BY-STEP
I'm writing these for the Odin newbie in mind. Experts, as long as you check "Repartition", you know the drill.
Open Odin. This does not need to be installed, simply run.
Pull off the back from your phone, remove the battery.
Connect the USB cable (best with the Samsung one that came with your phone), and hold Volume Down until you see the phone say "Download Mode". A little box should turn Yellow in Odin, signifying it detects the phone and is ready to flash it.
Click the PIT button. Locate the path to the PIT file extracted from the ZIP you downloaded above (or previously) to populate that field.
Click on the PDA button. Locate the path to the TAR.MD5 file extracted from the ZIP you downloaded above (of previously) to populate that field. Do NOT click on PHONE, Phone should be empty.
Make sure Re-Partition is checked. We want to overwrite the previous MIUI flash, and Re-Partition is what lets us do that fully.
Click the Start button. Let it proceed through the whole flashing process, which is approximately 10 minutes. You'll see "Complete!" in Odin and your phone's screen will go blank once it's finished.
For thoroughness' sake, I'm including the below steps. Again, experts could potentially circumvent, but below is the failsafe way.
Re-insert battery, boot phone. Allow it to boot into Blue (stock) recovery. it's okay if it says it can't mount "HIDDENSDCARD"; it's done the rest of the setup it needs to. If you're just staying with the stock ROM and recovery, you're done.
If you want a custom recovery:
Follow steps 1-7 above, skipping over step 4 (no PIT file needed), and flash your recovery of choice. You should now be able to flash whichever custom ROM you were on before, or restore from a Nandroid backup.
It is absolutely mandatory that you follow these steps exactly to properly get off of GB MIUI MTD (or CM7MTD for that matter) so that you can flash another ROM. Attempting another method or not following these steps implicitly will result in a bricked phone and you will have to follow this guide to fix it.
#3 reserved for me also.
Good for you man. Way to go!!!!!!
Tap-a-Talked from my Mesmerize
is there anyway u could port the cm7 releases to id really love to be running cm7 instead of having to flash fascinate radios and all tht crap..
Outstanding.
I'd love to test on my showcase. I have everything I need to go back via odin, and this is the rom I've been waiting for.

I got the same thing, but I think it's because I forgot to wipe data/cache/whatever... So I'm trying again.
Edit:
Yeah, it's just looping the spash.
Im also getting boot loop. Im on the ee19 radio, should i do the 10 and retry it?

That makes me very worried about flashing this.. I was just going to do it.
I wonder if flashing to the cm7 then trying to flash this would work better. Using the cm7 you can use rom manager to install the miui, so im gonna try that.
Edit: Unfortunately same thing that route also. Boot loop
That's what I came from, then the second time I went from the latest offical froyo.

Following up on my ported Bali kernel, here's a "ROM" to use it with, even though this really isn't much of a ROM, but more of a base for other themers to work with. It's a deodexed version of our update, and includes Root, as well as my ported Bali kernel. Other than that, nothing should be different from the Stock ODIN update.
My test had a broken browser app, so I pulled the stock browser for KG1 and deodexed it.
-BaliKG1 port from Dr. Honk's original Bali kernel
-Deodexed and rooted
-Flash script from ayoteddy's roms
-Updated Market, and Voodoo Control app by Supercurio to make use of the Bali kernel.
This does include Bali, but the name isn't changed in settings, this will be an update to the Bali kernel when I get motivated to do it, as that is just an asthetic change, it doesn't make a difference to the actual functionality of the kernel.

Can this be flashed over a rooted KG1? I tried doing so and I softbricked. I'm in the process of ODINing to stock KG2.
Also, is it safe to restore the data from a KG1 nandroid?
This should work to flash from KG1, you may have softbricked because you didn't check your mounts before and after flashing? restoring data should be fine, make sure you wipe your dalvik-cache from the advanced menu in CWM after restoring your data so that it rebuilds.
Yea, I don't think I checked my mounts. I'm ODIN'ing to KG2, then I'll be rooting, CWM'ing, and then flashing this ROM. Thanks!
Let me know if you're still having problems, I'll do my best to help you out!
I got it to work. Thanks for giving me the heads up on the mounts. I'm sure that's what softbricked me. Thanks again!

So is this rom up to speed compared to Smooth Maximus GingerClone? I'm reading form T-Mobile support that it actually lags a lot more than stock rom. Can this be flashed from GingerClone? Or must I odin first?
This can be flashed from GingerClone, as it contains both the updated firmware and the updated kernel. This is not really intended to be a rom persay, but rather to be a base for other themers and devs to make roms with. There's no speed changes, other than the lagfix that comes from Bali.
I'm using it now. It is pretty good already with bali implemented. Other than Media Room becoming an active process periodically, the stock experience is going well. The disability of the track pad will be very helpful outdoors.
Also got a soft brick trying this. Goes to the boot screen, and the motor buzzes once, then twice in a row, pauses then does the buzzing again.
Double checked the mounts before doing it.
Can still get into recovery, but trying to reinstall packages gives an invalid signature error.
Ugh...
Then it didn't flash correctly. You would have red CWM if this flashed correctly. Odin back to stock and try again, as if you can't get into recovery correctly, you can't do anything from there. You may want to redownload to make sure that you get a good copy.
That's what I did. Odin to stoc kg2, rooted, added cwm recovery (orange) then used same copy i downloaded earlier to flash. Worked properly.
Might be worth a test, that this might not be cwm flashable over stock kd1. Thats 2 reports of it happening so far, and i am not a beginner in flashing or following directions. Just an annoyance really, odin was painless to use. (Now, having to reinstall windows on a old pc laptop, so much fun /sarcasm) ;P
I've done it before just fine, flashing on the SK4G is different from most phones, if you don't check your mounts before and after, then it will not work.
All ROMs here include a KD1 or KG2 specific kernel in addition to their specific systems, so as long as mounts are checked, everything is overwritten. /system is entirely wiped in the flashing process, and a new kernel is flashed. There is no possible way, given a correct flashing procedure and a ROM that includes a kernel (which as far as I know are all the ones here) that this would not work to flash KD1 over KG2 or vice versa.
So far, this is the fastest rom I've tried, thank you for creating it! Even if its stock.
This had serve me fantastically. Wish the same was available for kj2

Sadly, it is Bali/Voodoo-less.
Download link for this doesn't work. States the file has been deleted.
Does anyone have this file still?
