Do class 10 cards work on the sensation ? Any thoughts or recommendations for either 16 or 32gb cards?

There's a thread over in the Accessories subforum concerning class 10 cards. Give it a read

lol. u meant for sensation right?..i was like damn, what sd card is this thats a substitute for a phone?
bt anyway, really 16gb or 32gb is a personal preference, you cant ask that since we dont know how much music/movies/games/whatever ur gonna have..
personally, i got a class 6(which should really do what it needs to in this phone) instead of 10 as i believe a class 10 won't really make a difference plus the class 6 was a lil cheaper..
i guess we'll find out tho since i pick up my sensation on the 12th

Yup.
I have a class 8 4GB - Never needed more. Maybe 8GB would be good, for when I shoot a lot of videos, but the main thing I use the phone for is just talking/browsing/flashing/flashing/flashing(I am addicted to that)/texting and such. Nothing that uses the SD card, other than my titanium backup and a place to put my ROMs on.

ha indeed I meant "for the sensation". Speed is more important to me than size. I want to wait the least amount of time to capture the next photo or to view my music/photo libraries.
So no difference between class 6 and 10? I had heard class 10 cards don't work on andorid devices. This seems to be bunk info?

I currently have a class 4 16gb and it seems slow on my G2 especially galleries.

well there prolly isnt that much of a diff in this phone..personally, im content with a class 6 and i dont feel like paying more for a class 10 is worth it. But class 10 cards do work on android devices.
check out this thread for some input http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072839
as some people have commented here that a class 2 recorded and played 1080p videos with no lag and such..and others obtaining low speeds on their class 10 cards...plus it also differs on the card manufacturer as most with the same classes have diff speeds.

I was curious about this myself so I emailed HTC tech support and they told me "There's no benefit to getting a Class 10 card; the phone will only read/write between Class 2 and Class 4 speeds. Thus, there's no real reason to spend the extra money for a Class 10 card". That's a bummer if it's true.

What are the Best SD cards? for the money?

For the money, the above poster is right, nothing beats zero, lol.
However, the higher the class the faster the card. Right now 32gb class 10s are around 90 or so. Just make sure to get name brand (Kingston, sandisk, etc) and read reviews.
Most new phones include a class 2 card. If you get anything above class 4 you may have to change the SD card read ahead buffer, at least on the HTC evo (stock is 64, 128-256 is preferred, and as high as 512 for a class 10), to get full benefit of the higher speed capability.
Hope this makes sense.
thanks, i just wanted to know about space.. but that's cool, the 16 is great, just wondering for the future.

From my experience, Kingston seems to be best balance for quality at reduced cost (compared to SanDisk).

Just got a 32gb sandisk class 2 from amazon for $67 shipped. Research told me it would benchmark like a class 4 and they weren't lying. Card reads quickly and has 0 errors.

Ya for microSD, I got SanDisk every time. They are more expensive than comparable micro but they have the best quality and performance (from my online research/reading). I haven't been let down yet.
Worth every penny and works great!!

I got a different question related ro this topic. What is the max class the epic can actually handle. I was told class 6 if that's the case its pointless to get a class 10. Is someone willing to bench a class 6 and class 10 for comparasing?

Yeah but you got to think ahead into the future. Most people don't last the entire two years with the same phone, at least i don't. One year and im already switching it up. Next phone can probably do more so it's always good to have.
I'd like to try to keep this phone for three years. That's my goal. It's a great phone.

Copy all important data/pics/backups to a computer! Once SD memory goes, its gone for good mostly.
I'm way too paranoid about flash memory failure to spend more than 50ish on a microSD card.
Last time my 16GB SD card crapped out on me, and I lost lots of pictures and videos from a trip.
As far as 16GB class 10, it could be nice depending on the price....

Ordered, thanks.
Class is just the minimum the data transfer's are rated to run at, not the maximum that the actual card can run. So my Class 2 could run at Class 6 speeds, but not garaunteed to do so.
Thanks for the great link though, gonna grab one!

This one is working fine for me so far. I got it for $23.50 when it was on sale, been using it for a week or two now.
ps- I took a chance based on the reviews, but the price was right and it hasn't given me any problems, yet.

I honestly don't think a lot of these high class less quality SD cards are worth it. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the class is only minimum. It also doesn't take into consideration the longevity of the card. I bought the 32gb patriot (Class 10) from new egg and it totally when bad on me after 3 weeks. I lost some important info (backup up most). Was able to luckily return it just under the 4 week limit newegg has for returns. Not to mention the speed was really no different that I could notice compared to the stock SD card. I'm probably going to get the Sandisk soon since it's the only brand that I trust.
Im looking to get a new 32g sd card whats the best one to get. I've been using my 8g sd card for about 2 years now I never had problems just want a 32g.

I bought the 32gb that Verizon sells today for $99. It was regularly $149 but its on sell right now. Its still kind of pricey, but I really like it. Doesn't slow anything down, and now I can put more music and movies on my phone. You can get the same card on Ebay for around $65 right now. It's a SanDisk brand and Ive always had good luck with them.
I need a 32gb my 16 is full I keep having to delete old stuff and store it on my computer. I want to keep everything on my phone.

I don't know if it would make much difference, but I guess that would depend on how fast you need to write to the card.
The other issue is whether the phone would support higher write speeds anyway.
If you can afford it,you could always buy one and try it.
A little reading:
http://www.dpreview.com/news/2011/1/6/kingstonuhsicards
In my experience, the random read / write sores are the most important when using in a phone for ruining apps and such. My class 4 SanDisk totally outperforms my class 10 card.

What class memory card & Sense Camera Mod

I was thinking of getting a new SD card for my Sensation, a 32GB. However, i cannot figure out what class to use - esp because im running the sense camera mod, which will require higher writing speeds, because of the Improved HD quality, right? :S
If that's the case, or even if not, which class memory card should i buy - taking into account recording hd videos and pics

As mentioned in the hq camera mod thread. Class 10 sdcard is required.. Samsung class 10 has good reviews.
For your information I'm using sandisk class 4 for this camera mod. It runs fine but after recording is done I need to wait couple of seconds to get control back

I use an unbranded Class 10 16gb that works fine with the mod, even the 40mbps mod. Play.com do well priced own branded 32gb class 10 ones that are fine and, in my opinion more reliable than buying from Hong Kong
Yeah you don't need a class 10. I'm using a class 6 and it works just fine. Something to consider about class 10 is that you lose random access speed to gain faster sequential write speeds. That being said, on a mobile phone where you're constantly pulling up pictures and music and applications, a class 4 to 6 is usually preferred.
Be very careful with eBay. It's a great website, but I did get jammed with a Sandisk 16GB class 6 once. It's write speed? About 40Kbytes a second. Yeah, it was awful. Looked absolutely legit, seller was alright feedback wise, grammar was fine. Be careful.
Yes I would NOT buy it off eBay just for the reasons he wrote above! Very good fakes, hard to tell the difference!

SD Card for S5

Now that CM allows my S5 to use the SD as internal storage I need a bigger one. I want a fast one within the bounds of this phone so I'm not paying for tech I cannot use. I listen to music and store some pictures but a lot of that is cloud based. Thanks!
This Sandisk 64GB sd card is pretty fast. for ~$20, cant go wrong.

Ah thats the fella I have in mine.
If you need insane amounts of storage, you really CANNOT go wrong with a Samsung one:
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Clas...id=1469114722&sr=1-1&keywords=Samsung+sd+card
I agree with Lightning here, the Samsung EVO is the best bang for the buck. This is what I have in my phone:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P3NMVVU/
Works flawlessly.
If you want something faster (for say shooting HD video), there is the EVO+ and the EVO Select as well:

dont get the 200 gb one as the phone is limited to 128 and wont be able to use 1/3rd of it. I use a class U1 PNY 128 gb card and its pretty snappy. I got it for $35 on amazon during the last cyber monday event, but they might even be cheaper now. Id just read the reviews on amazon for 128 gb cards. There are many people who buy them just to test them and theyll list their real world results in a transfer speed rating

I presume you mean 256 or whatever it is. I've the 64 gig one. Seems grand. I'm only new back on android after a few years on iPhone. 64 is plenty for me . 128 would be cool just to show off. We don't have cyber sales here in Ireland that I know of.
No. The 200 gig card is what I was referring to. What I said also applies to a 256 or anything above 128 really as the phone cannot read anything higher than 128. Yes, 200 gb is a strange storage size for a SD card, but a 200 GB card does exist

i think this limitations is because there was no more than 128 GB at the time of it's release but in theory it can handle up to 2 TB
even though there is no 2 TB micro SD Card yet, since it supports SDXC

I understand why! Sadly they are not available in my country yet, so I bought a 32GB Samsung EVO+ Class 10 UHS-1, and now I don't get the "your SD card is slow" when formatting as adoptable, which I got with a class 10.

That's a fair point, but I just haven't seen anyone confirm the over 128 GB cards working and I'd hate for a guy to buy one and it only recognize 128 because they're stupid 'spensive!!
can confirm that the S5 has no issues with a 200GB microsd....SDXC class 10....although after formatting, only 186GB available.....
Not sure if anyone has done it yet, but I just pounced on and ebay auction for a 256gb evo+. If there is any intrest in a definitive answer to whether it is compatible or not, I will post back in about a week when I get it. As mentioned above, it should work being sdxc. Wish me luck!
