I rooted with the help of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 [S-Off / Root Guide].
Can I used the pushed out OTA upgrade to 2.3.4 ? otherwise how/what should I do to get it ?
Other then rooting it is stock...
Ok I never received any answer to this but that might be because the information is in the forums just need to find it.
In short this is what I did to get my Euro phone from 2.3.3 -> 2.3.4.
1. Downloaded the OTA update on the phone
2. Copied the OTA update to my local machine (linux in my case)
3. Unzipped the OTA update and the firmware.zip that was in it
4. adb reboot bootloader
5. fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
6. fastboot boot-bootloader
7. Selected reboot in the fastboot menu
8. Ran the OTA update on the phone and let it reboot to 2.3.3 - update <whatever>
9. When it was up again I did a search for new OTA update and ran that too
10. When it was up-to-date with Android 2.3.4 I followed the S-OFF/ClockWork mod thread
Step 1 to 7 is more or less from this thread with the alternation that I use the OTA update.
This got be to HBOOT 1.17.1111 Revolutionary, ClockWork mod and Root
I'm not sure but I've read you can skip the hboot switch and still get root and clockwork but I figured better safe then sorry....
And I will not be responsible if you follow this and your phone good kaboom and becomes bricked or your house burns down and your wife decides to leave you!
Do not use this as a guide.. just letting you know how I got the 2.3.4 update on MY phone.
Sorry, I'm a bit cautious when dealing with rooting and whatnot...
I currently have ICS installed on my US Wifi Xoom. It has been rooted after the last update before JB, but is using the stock ROM otherwise.
What I'm wondering first is: Do I NEED to unroot before attempting the OTA update to JB, or is it just recommended? And then after I update to JB, do I use the same method to root? I believe I used this guide: http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/mot...ooting-flashing-unrooting-under-one-roof.html
Thanks!
You don't have to unroot to receive the ota. Get vodoo ota root keeper app it will protect root during the update

ok,,after many tries i finally figured a way to get to stock rooted Jb with the Ota...it was a long process but i was able to do it.
step 1. i re flashed the xoom stock images HC 3.0
step 2. update the xoom from 3.0 to 4.0.4 using the over the air updates.
step 3. fastboot flash the eos r6 recovery while still on 4.0.4
step 4 create a nandroid of the stock 4.0.4 system
step 5. install the Universal Xoom root zip
step 6. log into google account to have access to market
step 7 update superuser app, download ota rootkeeper
step 8 use ota and create a copy of su, then click temp unroot
IMPORTANT
make sure that you have a copy of the jelly bean ota on your internal sd(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736634)
step 9 turn off xoom, then boot into eos recovery
NEXT FEW STEPS ARE CRUCIAL
step 10 choose advance restore from internal (not regular restore option) and select the nandroid of the stock 4.0.4
step 11 select the option to restore only the boot.img
step 12 now install the JB Ota ( when it boots you will lose the eos reovery and the stock recovery will be flashed back,, so you can always fastboot flash back the eos recovery, just make sure to delete the recovery boot.p file in the system folder using root explorer or something similar.)
step 13 once you have flashed the JB ota, boot back into android, open the ota rootkeeper app and restore the su,, then use titanium backup or some other root app to verify that you have root.
optional step 14 after verifying that you do indeed have root access perform a factory wipe so you can start fresh. that's what i did and all was good.
hope that helps some people.
edit : if you are on a stock 4.0.4 than you can continue from step 3 as basically you need to be there in order to follow the rest.
Thanks. I will try this method.
I used the method above with one minor change and it worked perfectly. In place of step 12, I powered down and then booted into fastboot and flashed the stock recovery image. After that I rebooted and was then able to accept the JB 4.1.1 OTA directly without having to download and install it manually. The statement in parenthesis in step 12 still applies.

Based on your steps it sounds like the only real important piece is the rooted boot.img file from ICS.
If someone were to post it, I'd imagine people could simply do this for rooting JB
fastboot oem unlock (unlock bootloader if not already done)
fastboot flash boot /path/to/<boot>.img

No guarantees this would work, but in theory it seems right to me.
Are you serious ? the traditional root method doesn't work anymore on JB ??

Honestly not really a big surprise. Things change and what security flaw that allowed rooting on previous versions of Android for a device may be patched in future releases.
Okay completed this method and worked fine.
I also on step 12 flashed the stock recovery then performed the update through OTA and after verifying ROOT access with Titanium Backup I OEM unlocked which wipes the device but not Root Access. Its a lot OTA's but a good way to keep root on JellyBean 4.1.1.....
Thanks

I think Universal Root Method and flashing latest Superuser working. I have not tried but would love to know if it works.
Hello to all xda-developers community
I am a happy user of Nexus 7 (JB 4.2.2) and Motorola Razr HD (JB 4.1.2) rooted devices.
When I rooted the Nexus 7, I used the easy Nexus 7 Toolkit (http://www.skipsoft.net/?page_id=205).
But for the XT925 under JB, it's a totally different story. Many people say that there is not exploit currently available to root this device. There is one under ICS, or for the Droid Razr/MAXX (by Dan Rosenberg), or a possibility to keep root after an OTA update from ICS to JB, but none for my specific device under JB.
So I decided to take my chances and did it my way. Everything worked at once, I did not encounter a single error during the whole process which was smooth, because I was very cautious and patient. When I finally gained Root privilege, I was surprised and happy it worked out so well, and realized this could be potentially helpful to the whole Android community searching for a clean way to root their device.
The point here is that I believe this procedure is not dependant on my specific device, firmware or any exploit, although I cannot test it on all smartphones to be sure. So now, it's your turn and let me know if it worked!
There are a few pre-requisites though:
* this is like off-piste skiing, so let yourself be cautious
* your must have a complete understanding of what is explained in this post; if you're unsure, you should study first
* you'll have to do some research, for example how to unlock your bootloader, and to locate the USB drivers and CWM available for your device.
Good luck!
1) Java JDK:
It is necessary for SDK: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7-downloads-1880260.html
2) Android SDK:
It is necessary: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
3) USB Drivers:
From the manufacturer of your device.
4) USB Debugging:
It must be on.
5) Backup of your apps and data:
It is necessary to perform a backup of all your apps and opt in Google automatic account backup ("Settings>Privacy>Back up my data") and perform syncing ("Settings>Google>Accounts>Sync"). Since your device is not rooted yet, it is not possible to backup much more that that...
6) The bootloader:
It must be unlocked. For Motorola, HTC and Sony phones: the official site shows you the way.
7) Wiping user data and cache:
It is done through 'fastboot - w' which erases all your data.
8) Fresh Firmware: OPTIONAL
It is possible to flash a JB firmware or any other Android version, but what's the deal in not using the last release?
You can choose whatever firmware you like, as long as you use the official radio for your operator. I chose Australian Telstra version of JB with SFR radio.
My advice is to avoid flashing an unofficial ROM which could interfere with the rest of the procedure. Once your device is rooted and Nandroid backed up with CWM, you'll have the opportunity to flash different ROMs.
I flashed a fresh Jelly Bean firmware (the Telstra one with SFR radio which are available here for XT925: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032284).
On Motorola phones, you can use RSDLite (6.1.4 with MTK 20 patch).
You need to remove 2 lines from the XML file: the one with "getvar" and the following one with "oem". You can replace "modem_signed" and "fsg_signed" with the ones specific for your phone operator/region (there are different radio frequencies). In that case, you'll need to find the "regional" firmware and extract these 2 files from it.
9) ClockWorkMod Recovery:
Flashing CWM is done in fastboot mode: 'fastboot flash recovery image-name'.
The 6.0 image is available for Razr HD: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1973904).
Some digging is necessary for other devices: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/ClockworkMod_Recovery.
If CWM Recovery is not available on your device, you can use TWRP or MobileODIN instead, but I haven't had a chance to test them in this situation.
10) Rooting step: SuperSU
The installation of SuperSU is done from CWM in recovery mode with this UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip file available from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053&nocache=1. Do not take into account Chainfire's warning "!!! SuperSU requires a rooted device !!!"
Et voila!
You can test if you really gained root privilege with this application: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
Thanks to the developers +Emerson (CWM for Razr HD) and +Chainfire (SuperSU) and of course Google
Sprint - LG G Flex - LS995ZV9
The LG G Flex from sprint does have a Root checker that detects the method below!
Root Support:
Android Version (4.4.2) Cannot be rooted with the tool below!
Android Versions prior to 4.4.2 are able to achieve root and you can root
If you have Android Version (4.4.2) you must downgrade useing the tools and links below...
Downgrade your Device Rom: Downgrade my Device
If you have Android Version less than 4.4.2 you may skip the above step and go straight into rooting your device use the links below to achieve root!
Root your device: Get Root On my Device
!!!Do NOT use SuperSU to try and keep root with OTA (Over The Air) updates you will break the OTA update and your phone will boot-loop.!!!
If this happens you can use the downgrade tool to re-install the Factory Default ROM.
If the files above no longer download you may use this: on my website
I hace tried every single method and it seems its impossible to root 5042T running 4.4.4 KitKat... Any help will be apriciated.:crying:
Been trying to root mine for some time too, tried all the app ones(kingroot ect), even desktop versions and no luck. Would appreciate some help too.
I need help with this as well.
I found out that the latest firmware blocks root. I successfully rooted mine with Kingroot for the A3CUMC1 firmware. You need to downgrade the firmware then apply root.
it's easy to root 5042t
it's easy to root 5042t
1) KingRoot-5.0.5.apk
2) after rooting reboot and install other version of KingRoot-4.8.1-136.apk, reboot
3) then install SuperSUme-6.7.0-Pro.apk and it will remove KingRoot exchanging it on SuperSU
4) then apdate SuperSU till SuperSU-2.78-2-Pro.apk
5) Plus it's not bad after all to install BusyBox-51-Pro.apk and ADB-Insecure-2.00.apk and Apps2SD-12.6Pro.apk
