I am looking to get a new phone (pay and go) and after having a extensive play with my house mates Galaxy S I have decided I want some form of Android phone.
I don't have all that much to spend, Something around the £100 mark.
Would be using the phone for things like Facebook, slight web browsing for time to time and a few games like Angry birds and cube runner oh and World of warcraft mobile authenticator.
I have got two phones in mind but am unsure of what device would better suit my needs.
Samsung Galaxy Apollo
Or
HTC Wildfire
Or
Sony Ericsson Xperia X8
Any advice or personal experience with these phones would be much appreciated.
I used to have a wildfire, it's great but the screen Res is so low that vids look crap! I would go for the wildfire s, it's slightly more expensive but it's worth it.

£100 is about my absolute limit but if I could afford the Nexus s I would go for it but I just cant afford it. but the other three phones I listed I can get for £99
Check out the orange San Francisco. Can root and install cyanogenmod 7. Costs 99.99. Nice screen for the price. Unfortunately locked to orange if you're on another network already though...

I bought the San Francisco after my HD2 was broken for the x'th time.
Now that I have it for over a week I am absolutely in love with it.
For the price it is a brilliant device.
It has it downsides but even expensive phones have those.
Any Android but the Samsung Gaxaxy S is great
Well, my favorite cell company it's HTC. I saw the Sensation in action and i felt in love. But I see what's new on HTC and a beatiful phones come soon...like HTC EVO 3. Also samsung have a good phones too. But these are more difficult to root and install new roms, i think.
So I wait for a new sorprise of HTC for now.
I have the HTC HD2 running Windows Mobile 6.5
I can't get the Android OS on it, keeps failing to install
HD2
HD2 all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Legend is a great phone. Pretty much the same phone as the Wildfire S, but I guess it's cheaper.

Many thanx

I've reviewed both phones and I say yes it's worth it.
I'm a big fan of solid overall construction and while the Arc was really sexy it felt a tad cheap and a bit fragile.
The Sensation feels solid.
Then of course there is the Dual core, more ram, etc

Yes, if you were getting it for free. You have to say how much you have to pay for the upgrade, in order for others to tell you whether it is worth it.
Is there any thing about the Xperia Arc that you don't like? That you must get rid of and get a new device? The Xperia Arc is a rather new, slim, and nice device with a good camera.
Granted, it doesn't have dual core, but does that really matter? I mean, if one is buying a new device today, he/she'd better get one with dual core. But that doesn't mean anyone without a dual core phone needs to go get one.
This is just the first wave of high power dual core phones. The Xperia Arc is a modern and rather new device to be upgraded from. As much as I like my Sensation, I would hold on to it till the next wave of high end device comes, probably some time around the end of this year, if I were you.
i owned the sensation for a month now and im loving it especially with S-off now. It really isnt worth the upgrade for you now because the xperia arc is good device. if you really want to upgrade, do it or you can wait till the hercules comes out or the new nexus
Totally worth it. Just rooted and s-offed, flashed the revolution hd no sense ROM and this thing is amazingly fast and smooth. My phone is so much faster than stock and I'm underclocked to 1ghz each core.

It's really not worth the upgrade. If you're one of those people who always have to have the latest and greatest and seem to have money growing off of trees, get it; I don't really care, lol. Otherwise, if not, my sound advice is to hold off and calm yourself. You have a good device. I spent 2 years with a G1 and just upgraded to a Sensation. Being low on money, I returned the Sensation and am borrowing a friend's old MyTouch 4G which is good running MIUI.

OK, get it then if you want. There's really not much to say. If you could wait it out, I would still suggest getting a better phone. You can wait a few more months without a problem I'm sure, and get a Nexus Prime or something
Hello forum members,
I am planing to buy a new smartphone, i wish Android OS....
My budget is around 25K-27K.
I have selected some models please guide me to buy the best one,
1. Dell Streak (5" screen, android 2.2)
2. Samsung Galaxy S2 (4.2" screen, android 2.3)
3. HTC Sensation (4.2" screen, android 2.3)
Help me out guys!!!
25k?? ****, buy them all.

I don't know how much is 25K in your currency (India isn't the whole world), but Galaxy S II is the best.
However, if you have 25K$, wait for nexus prime! Buy 30 of them!
+1 on the Galaxy SII you will not be disapointed.
Samsung Galaxy S2 (4.2" screen, android 2.3)
or wait for Nexus Premium

+1 Totally agree! I hate the overexaggerated and super unreallistic colors of the S2.
Hey,
I have a Samsung GSII as well as a HTC EVO3D (which is pretty much the same phone as the Sensation internally) and my advice would be to get the Samsung...
Don't get me wrong, HTC make great phones. But the Galaxy 2 is both faster and especially smoother than the HTC. The SGSII is the first Android phone Ive seen, that is as smooth scrolling and lag-free as the iPhone.
Better batterylife too!
If you can wait a month or two, wait for the Nexus Prime though....
---------- Post added at 11:10 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:00 AM ----------
BTW... The only advantage of the Sensation is the higher resolution screen.
And QHD is really nice, especially when browsing or reading...
But its not enough to outweigh the Samsungs other advantages IMHO (Smoother, faster, 16gb built-in memory, batterylife and SAMOLED screen, though granted. The latter is a matter of personal preferences) and its not something you'll notice missing unless you're already used to it like I am, LOL...
I miss those extra couple of lines of text I get on my HTC, when I use my Samsung
If I could choose one phone however, it would be the SGSII.,Let us know how it goes!
i don't know exactly about Indian currency, but i would like to recommend HTC EVO 4G.
You can also try Xperia ARC for a change...
So HTC are announcing four new smartphones at the end of this month.
I really want a ChaCha but the small memory and the fact it'll probably never get ICS are holding me back.
Do you think one of HTC's new phones will be an updated ChaCha? Even if it's just another low-end phone with a similar form factor? If I get one, it'd be replacing a BlackBerry so the touchscreen and keyboard is perfect for me, I just wish HTC would care about it a bit more.
So do you think HTC will bother upgrading the ChaCha? It's been around for a while now and prices have dropped quite a bit, so I'm hopeful they'll do a new one with slightly bumped up specs and ICS.
Bigger screen is main thing that would tempt me!
sent usin' tapatalk innit.
Screen is ok-ish..
More internal space + better battery
More memory and ICS is good enough for me, do you think it'll actually happen though?
I've seen new details and it seems the chances of a new ChaCha are basically non-existent, so my next question is, should I order one now or wait until after the new HTCs come out so the prices drop? Or has it already hit rock bottom at £119 anyway?
I highly doubt it. I think it wasn't HTCs best phone. And not what they're recognised for

I have a BlackBerry at the moment but it's rubbish. I do, however, like the form factor and keyboard, and would very much like an Android phone with those features. If HTC brought out a new phone with a QWERTY, the classic "bar phone" form factor, and better specs than the ChaCha, it'd be perfect as far as I'm concerned.
Still have 3 months before I can change my phone; currently using a X10 Mini Pro.
Really would like a Mark II ChaCha with better camera and more built-in memory. The alternative for me is a Xperia Pro, but I prefer a candybar QWERTY...
Is there a way for us to petition HTC? I am tired of all the touchscreen-only phones in the market
Yeah. I know BlackBerry are rubbish. But I know lots of people who have them, 91% of students in my school have BB. 5% have iPhones and like literally 5 people have Androids. And 3 are my friends. So from where I'm coming from, and like all sxhools in uk, BlackBerry is more popular than the Android. So I think majority of the population will buy a blackberry.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
BlackBerries are starting to lose their popularity a bit now I think. I'm seeing more iPhones and Androids every year. I even know a guy who's got a Windows Phone 7 phone.
Honestly I think a ChaCha with decent specs would be a brilliant device and would lure people away from BlackBerries.
We shall wait and speculate. I hope the next ChaCha will look nice.

Pfah... I wonder why everyone calls this "Blackberry-Style".
I like this type of phone, I had a Palm Treo 600 that time where no one knew about Blackberry, and I had a Nokia E71 afterwards. But I won't by any Blackberry, because their Keyboards are worse than those of Nokia, Palm or HTC. And the OS also isn't good, but maybe QNX will make it better. But I heared that they don't have many options for synchronizing the device with the computer.

Yeah I've used the phone and a friend of mine owns one and tells me it's good, I'm just waiting to see if there's a new version being announced next week or not. If not, I'll probably buy one. If so, I'll wait for the new one.

I agree competely. I personally just ditched my BlackBerry Pearl 9100 for the HTC Status aka ChaCha. I like it way better.... except for the low internal memory. I just managed to complete the root but I'm still learning (I'm very new with Android) and just need to partition the SD card so I can enable a2sd.
Wife wants one but as she has not much experience with smartphones (except symbian) a low end device would be a good starting point.
Decent camera, 5mpix+ and power to run Web browser so it's not frustrating.
Ofc the bigger the screen the better.
Main use case would still be talking so if there are problems with built in speaker or modem sw that would be deal killer.
Any suggestions?
Price max 120€, that's ~150$ and needs to be available/shipped to Europe.

I would get a decent one and just strip the programs she wont use. I personally regretted getting abasic one to start with a week later when I wanted more out of it and had to go buy another. I'd get a mid-range phone. Maybe one that is over a year old but still powerful, like the Galaxy S2. Probably better off getting a phone that used to be top of the line and has been discounted heavily due to depreciation as opposed to a phone that is entry level. I would really stray from weak Android phones.
Thanks guys for the replies. Will rethink my strategy here

^This.
I wouldn't recommend a low-end Android phone to anyone, as it simply defies the whole concept of smartphone. It is not exactly "smart" when you have to wait whole eternity for a simple operation as starting a web browser, and doing a search. My Wildfire got so slow, that even typing an SMS was frustrating because of slowdowns. When using a offline navigation (IGo), I had to wait several minutes for program to load, and for GPS initialization. Even after it loads, it is frustrating to use it, because of weak CPU.
I guess, any phone with 1Ghz processor will be a good start...
All guys here are right........low end Android phones are very slow.

Part of it is I speak from experience. I got my wife a Samsung Intercept for Virgin Mobile about a year ago and it was abhorrent. It was a low-end phone when we got it and it didn't take long for it to just become nearly unusable. Even with a FroYo upgrade it still sucked. Between the horrible phone speed and horrible internet speed that Virgin provided, we did a complete 180 and I got her an unlocked Galaxy Nexus and now we do T-Mobile PAYG 4G plan. Now she's really uses her phone for web stuff, apps, messaging, and taking photos, as opposed to before with the Intercept where she could just message and talk for the most part.

the s2 is a good choice but will easily break your budget. is this price with a contract or without? there's a bunch of phones available, as long as you stay above 1ghz as previously mentioned, and she'll be fine

its the 8S not the 8X. i would buy the 8X if u could tho
both phones are good but the main question is...what os will be more suitable for you.I suggest go for a "test drive" in your nearest shop and play with a win 8 phone. But my suggestion is to try and find a nokia win phone.nokia music is for you and it is free too for a year i think.
Andoid is more fun but Win 8 is more "smooth" and "easy"
I bought a Galaxy SII a couple of months ago, and it's the best phone I've ever had. I realize the SIII is better, but the SII does everything I need.
Both phones are supposedly quite good.
I guess it'll come down to what ecosystem you prefer.
I haven't seen too much on the Desire X, but I would warn you that while the 8S is a decent low-end handset it does come with a meagre 4GB storage on-board, so make sure you get a nice roomy MicroSD card to go with it.
There is a significant lack of apps on windows OS. And I mean a massive lack, with most big games etc that have been on apple and android for ages not on there at all.

I would definitely recommend Samsung Galaxy s3,best phone I've ever had. With root and custom rom of course!

i think HTC 8S is better.
Samsung Galaxy S2 ....best smartphone today :victory:
I'd go with the Desire X - No love for windows phones as I don't like the interface.
Plus, sense is awesome.
HTC 8S comes with window 8 and HTC Desire X comes with 4.0.4 android operating system except to most of the features are same. I think you should go with HTC Desire X.
Galaxy s iii. I got one with a extended battery 4300 Hyperion. 32 gig sandisk card. Att has them for 29.99 right now. I got mine in Oct for 49.99. I argued and got it rebated back and taken off next bill. Not a refurb either. I like nexus but no ext card. If your going to root then not much benefit if a nexus. Running 4.2 just as it is anyways.
