[Q]MicroSD Card problem - General Questions and Answers

I downloaded a ROM through XDA Premium and now my microsd won't allow me to delete or add files to it! I tried formatting it but when the formatting is complete. All the files are back onto the card! Help please!
EDIT: I can still listen to my music and take pictures on my phone

Since when can you download ROMs through xda app?
You mean you clicked a link in XDA app which got opened and downloaded by the browser.
If the files are back after formating your didnt format it correctly.
You can try the explorer of this app to delete the rom.

The file I downloaded through XDA disappeared right after download.
I just noticed that my micro sd is now in RAW format. Is there anyway that I can get it back to FAT32?

Usually through Settings->Memory.
If that doesnt do it you could plug it into a computer/laptop and format it from there.

I think my card is corrupt. My computer say's that it cannot format it.
I've decided to buy a new micro sd card. Thanks for helping

Take out your sd card and place in a card reader via your PC. then browse and open up the sd card and copy all the folders to your hard drive. Afterwards right click on the sd card and click format. Do a full format not a quick one. Begin copying back over the folders from before. Done.
Thank you, that's what I ended up having to do

Downloading Issue.

Ok so I am having an issue getting files to my phone to update my ROM and Kernel. The USB gives the errors like should be expected. It will not let me mass storage to get any files on there.
My browser is also giving me issues and when I try to download anything from online it goes right to "Download Unsuccessful."
I have Google Drive and installed it and tried using it but when downloading from there it downloads not onto the SD card.
I also tried to use DropBox but when downloading it says "Storage full or unavailable"
I can view EVERYTHING on my SD card perfectly fine using Astro but I am unable to delete, cut, copy, paste or edit anything on the SD Card.
What do I need to do?
Really trying to avoid another wipe if at all possible.
I suffered this issue too.....Check your memory card firstly whether u can write on it and it is not corrupted if not then u have done a bad flash......
Download Astro File Manager from the Play Store, go into the Preferences, and touch the enable browser downloads box.

Sometimes it pays to have a microSD card reader. If you have a laptop, check the sides and see if it has a reader built in.
It kinda sounds like your sdcard is stuck on read-only... Try mounting your sdcard through USB from recovery maybe? That's all I can think of if you can't delete/write while booted.
Also, if you can mount sdcard and read files off of it, try copying all files off and into a backup folder, format sdcard, restore files.
Hope some of this helps. I really do recommend you buy a standalone MicroSD card reader. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA12K0958408 <<< $4 and free shipping, should work fine.
I have a stand alone microSD card reader. And i can get my computer to read the files perfectly fine. I can view them and everything. But I cannot move them off of the memory card or add/delete files on the memory card.

My SD card is a zombie

so i keep deleting files from my sd card but they keep coming back.
i've pulled it out and plugged it to my laptop and it says files are protected? didn't know micro sd cards can be protected ( no physical switch on the side) nor did i find anything underneath properties tab.
i went as far as formatting it while mounted, all files delete but when i restart the phone, they all come back.
i like to know how i can make this go away, kindly advise. thanks.
What files are you deleting? Android puts certain files and folders on the SD card automatically

nothing specific. pics.
somehow they became write protected and i can't get it out of it.
need a new flash adapter , unless there is a way to remove write protected stage while its mounted to my phone?
Have you tried using an file shredder utility on your PC to delete them? Past that I would say its a mystery.

This happened to me a few times before as well it except I was trying to format the card instead. If I remember correctly it was because of some type of setting having to do with developers usb connection. I'll edit this post if I remember/find out what I did exactly

still looking, any one have a solution for formatting a write protected micro sd?
Are you trying to format it or delete specific files. If you want to format it find a hex editor, put a normal sd card and steal the hex from the normal sd card and put it on the 1 you're trying to format

Hi, trying to either remove protected content or format it, which ever way possible.
define steal? just downloaded freeware hex editer xvi32. not sure how to operate it though.
how do i steal the hex from another sd card?
I can't reproduce the problem so I'm unable to find the solution again. Sorry. That and I've also lost the 16gb micro SD card that had that problem. I'm using a 32gb now.
!
called samsung and they'll do a warranty exchange on it. problem solved
not sure how the micro sd locked up but it did, strange things happen i guess. i even tried multiple sd adapters and devices and still got the same error.
thanks everyone for their feedback.

Music and Picture files still showing up on Microsd card after formatting

Hi,
I have formatted my sandisk 16gb microsd card multiple times via my pc(windows xp), my phone(samsung galaxy s2 skyrocket), sdformatter and hp usb disk format tool. All these programs say the format was successful but my music and picture files are still showing up on my phone. I also tried a factory reset on the phone but that only removed the files in the internal storage.
I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I tried searching for threads with a similar issue but I was unable to find one.
Thanks
Does the card show 16gb of capacity after formatting? If so, fill that with generic files & see what the phone reads.

Are you sure the pics and music are on your external sd and not the internal?

It's a 16gb card but when I attempt to format the card it shows up as a 14.8gb card. I connected my phone to my computer and drropped a generic file onto the sd card but the file does not show up on the phone when I disconnect it from my computer. I reconnected the phone to the computer and the generic files is still missing.

Yes they are on the external. I opened the MyFiles app, looked under extSdCard and it shows all the music and picture files. I tried deleting all the files in the exSdCard folder but they all reappear when I restart the phone. I also tried deleting them from my computer but they all reappear after the phone re-scans the sd card.
You're putting it on the wrong card

Blank MicroSD Card

I used to have to have a 32gb MicroSD card in my Note 3 which i used to use for my files. After I rooted my phone, I thought it would be a good idea to store my TWRP backups to my MicroSD card as it frees up internal storage but however after I initially made my 1st backup to my card, the system booted up and apparently the card was blank. I know this to be false as I have loads of photos on it and I selected the MicroSD card in recovery to make my nandroid backup to and after like 3 minutes, it was made.
Question is. How do I get my MicroSD card back to normal. I'm aware of formatting it and then mounting it in recovery but I don't want to lose my files on the card. I inserted the card into my laptop and the command prompt said it had a RAW file system.

Would I use that after I format my card and which file system should I format it to so TWRP can recognize it

I used Recuva. It's from the people that make CCleaner. Worked for me. But honestly, don't let it restore files that are partially damaged, because if they're music or photos or videos, they won't play/display correctly, and it'll cause wakelocks from the media scanner until you find and delete them.

Don't reformat, just put the microSD card into your computer (with an adapter, or with something that will let it show up as mass storage, not MTP). Point Recuva to the card. It'll tell you what files are partially restorable and fully restorable. Like I said, don't restore the damaged stuff. From experience, what'll happen if you do is you're gonna get wake locks and no app will be able to tell you which files are damaged. So you'll end up having to format the entire card anyways to get rid of the wake lock/damaged files.

I've formatted the MicroSD card as I had a backup of the files on my laptop and everything seems to be working fine.
