So it seems with me finding and leaking out builds pertaining to the Vibrant 4G, as well as ODIN and a PIT file for the Vibrant 4G, there needs to be a section for this phone.
The phone will be released Feb 23rd.
Vibrant users are starting to get confused with the 4G stuff I have been posting in the 3G Dev section.
Can we go ahead and get a 4G section created?
And, if you guys need a mod for it, I'd be open to it.
i second that
i like the Vibrant 4G MODs and leaks, but it is starting to get confusing as some stuff might work for regular Vibrant and some stuff may not...there should definitely be another section for the Vibrant 4G

This really needs to be done ASAP. I don't want to think about what the Vibrant forums will turn into if Vibrant plus/4G forums aren't created before the official launch.
yeah asap cause noobs flash 4g kernels and roms on 3g phones
Throwing my vote in here as well.
Also, it could be another development board within the Vibrant section, I don't see the need for a whole new set of 4+ boards for this variant as the accessories and apps will be the same, but certainly a separate development board as all the ROMs, modems, kernels will always be different from the existing Vibrant.
The phones are close enough that flashing a Vibrant ROM on the Galaxy 4G will tempbrick/brick it and vice-versa.
Will someone please think of the newbs!

You will also face the fact that you will not get any data if the flash is successful, thus, making you restore a backup
Anyone know accurate specs on this thing? So many rumors and mixed information. I even seen someone say it was going to come stock with honeycomb which i know is hogwash.
yeah, i'm all for a new section. I hadn't visited the forums in a while and was a bit confused by all this 4G talk.

Definitely in favor of a separate thread as well. With all the people that don't know what they're doing downloading and attempting to flash the first file they see, it's bound to create even more trouble in the forum if they're allowed to remain together.
Please do, I like the idea of having them separate but together. They will share alot just not most software.

Count my vote in. It's better to have seperate sections for both phones. They're both different in some ways anyway.
Admins, any update to this?
there are no official words yet
but we are considering options
my guess is that it might come down to a merger
but if lucky we might get a whole stand alone section
Thanks AllGamer.
I just don't want anyone to further complain. I am holding onto the rest of the 4G files, and any more I happen to come across until the section is created.
Admins/Mods,
Has there been any new updates to this request?

please... a new section for this device would be awesome. We need a Galaxy S 4G section soon... this phone drops in less than a week.
Also Krylon360 do you think we will see much development for this device?

Ok, I am sure folks have asked this before. I have done a search and still can not find a answer. I am wanting the option in my settings that will allow me to download non market apps.
I have rooted the phone and am running the 2.2 custom rom that I got before AT&T released theirs. When I go into setting to the area that should have the option to allow non market apps, it is not there.
I thought that once you rooted and installed the custom rom, it would give you this option as I know that AT&T blocks this on their firmware / rom.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Obviously you did not do a search and posts like need to be in q&a section. We had this place cleaned up a couple days ago to rid the general of threads like this.

You can use this to root, but then also to allow NM Apps. Real simple, just have to have the drivers installed on your computer.

First, This is my first time on this paticular website so knowing the exact area to post is not always the easiest as all forums are different.
Second, I am a member of different tech type forums out there and I would never slam someone like you are doing. The purpose of forums like this is to help people and not to see how big of a "****" you can be to someone.
You should keep in mind that you may need help someday on a product you have and you go online to get a answer and that person acts the way you did and see how you like it.
I have even ran forums before and have kicked people off that acted in this manner.... Just be careful on who you piss off.

It is due to att removing the option for their devices. If att release a 2.3.3 update you can be sure that it will be removed from there as well. The reason you see it now is that att is the only one that does it and we are working with the euro version
I understand. Every custom rom I've seen just installs even though the option is not there.

Hello Everyone I'm really needing some help I have a fully stock AT&T 4G INSPIRE and hate the stock rom it freezes alot and etc. Ive flashed my old htc tilt 2 before so I have a lil expiernce on flashing.
Ive looked through the forums for detailed instructions on flashing a inspire and am a lil confused, I just want to find something step by step Its just i dont wanna brick my phone. I believe I need to root the phone 1st??? also my important question is do I need to back up my contracts and all that before I start the process??? THANK YOU
oooh man I foresee this getting bad quickly.
Yes, in short (short because you WILL need to read and educate yourself on your own. No one is gonna hold your hand through this process, this is a development site and not a help me please site) you will need to root first then you can flash a new rom and all that other stuff.
I see your next question is, how do I root. easy answer: Hack Kit which is found in the dev forum. Read the entire OP and effen manual that comes with the hack kit and then re-read it again and again until it makes sense. While you're at it, take a good look at the stickies in the development thread as they give you the step by step you want for pretty much everything. If you're still a little lost or need more information the search function will be able to help you as many of the question you probably will have already have been answered. If at this point you're still confused, re-consider rooting your phone because everyone around here will give you the same advice, if you don't know what you're doing, don't do it.
So basic overview of the process is:
1. Root with ace hack kit.
2. once rooted find a ROM you like (don't ask which is best, if you want to know the answer search the forums for "best rom" and you'll see why I say don't ask.)
3. put rom on sdcard and flash in recovery
It's a fairly straight forward process once you've gained the knowledge. Good luck man!
and I think at this point, mods should consider closing this thread before it turns into a crap storm. I think I got the OP in the right direction.

Thank you!! I was up late last night and found the Hack Kit and reading up on it and it made sense I just didnt know at what point you were supposed todo it, but from what your saying is the 1st step thanks! One last question please will i lose my contacts if I flash my phone?
Yes this will wipe your phone. How are your contacts setup? If they are "Google" contacts then they will resync when you sign back in with the same gmail address on the new ROM. If they are "Phone" contacts I suggest you export the "Phone" contacts to your memory card. Delete all your "Phone" contacts on the phone. Then import your contacts back from the card and choose "Google" contacts. You will never lose them again as long as you keep the same Gmail address.

I know a lot of people put a lot of faith in google... However, here is the 'sure' way.
Contacts ("People") > Menu Button > Import/Export > Export to storage
after you flash, if you have an issue with google's managing your contacts, you can import this vcf file

There are enough stickies on the Desire S forums for you to get to grips with the basics and what you need to do - then if you have a particular question, which you can't answer by what you've read or by searching XDA or Google, come back and ask it
I'd suggest looking a bit up when you wrote your thread, and seeing a thread named "Complete tutorial for beginners and others". By its name you could understand that it's probably the right address.
But it looks like it might be even too complicated, because you don't seem to know what Android is at all. In that case, use Google, write "android for dummies", and see where it gets you.
You're running CyanogenMod, which isn't a build that this phone comes with. Once you understand some things around, look for the INDEX thread in Development section, and look up there the procedure of restoring to stock.
In any case, please consider googling before posting. It's a useful practice that's guaranteed to give better answers.
Hello guys,So im with three.uk they dont do LTE yet but they r about to roll it out very soon however they do DC-HSDPA and im in area where i should be getting it sadly im not getting it for some reason top of the screen shows only H+(mostly) sometimes H and 3G. If i go to connections->More Networks-> Mobile Networks -> Network mode i only get WCDMA/GSM(auto connect) or WCDMA only so this is what i get. I was reading that there is some problem with s4's shipped from korea and people advice to flash to unbranded stock well one was australian so i even flashed to australian firmware even to getman firmware so far no luck no lte in options not detecting DC-HSDPA just after flashing to getman/australian firmware i got an extra option in network mode and it is gsm only plus the other two i said before. So my question is how i could get this DC-HSDPA working and what indicator top of the screen will show instead of h+ will it show DC ? i was trying to find answers but no luck so far please help me outKind rengards Martin

Funny how even after changing our forums name from "Samsung Galaxy S 4g" to "Samsung Galaxy S (4g model) people still come here thinking it's the s4
Should have renamed it SGH-959T/W
Well, and the actual forums themselves are still named S 4G. It's only the containing forum that's been renamed. It seems to have slowed the mess somewhat, but unfortunately we still have a moderate number of people who choose not to read.

mmm. I may suggest that the device forum to: Samsung Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V/T959W)
Saying T959 twice I think makes it a bit more clear.
If there is a rename, ALL the forums should be renamed... not just the header. I think that's where we're getting most of our current lazy bleedover now, from people who still see the S 4G rather than the S (4G Model) which is more clear.
Why not just add "NOT S4" to it as well.

Because then we'd need to add Not S, Not Epic 4G, Not Fascinate 4G, Not *every other phone model whose name we're somewhat near and whose lazy members can't be bothered to post in the right place* and that makes the forum name rather messy. Especially when reading on a tiny phone screen.

Instead of doing that, why don't the monitors simply delete any thread that's about some other phone as soon as it's started? That way, the person will not get any answers and will just go away after awhile.

That requires a moderator that is on hand all the time. Or people to report and not respond. And it apparent that is just not gonna happen either.
Best solution is report the post and people not feel the urge to tell the person that are a (insert insult).

How about we just let the threads die after kindly reminding the S4 users that this is not their phone. Instead of arguing about it and keeping the very thread that we don't want alive. One person guide the S4 user in the right direction and then leave the thread alone to die. How does that sound?
