I am trying to setup 3g data connection in different county.
How do I manually select Data settings. What I see is Setting->cellular->Apn.
In Apn I have only 3 input (apn, user, password).
Where do I input ip and port? is it automatic?
thanks
atm.
APN typically doesn't contain IP address and port. That's for proxy server.
You can download the Samsung Networking tool from app market to see if it already contains settings for your carrier.

Hello.
I'm using faria's latest WM6 ROM, but can't find where to enter proxy server / proxy settings in accordance to t-mobile's guide. WM6 doesnt have the place where to enter proxy numbers as specified. After a little digging i heard you might need to change the settings in the registry for wm6.
Can anyone please advise?
Thanks!
12. Tap Edit my proxy server under T-Mobile GPRS.
13. Tap to check This network connects to the Internet.
14. Tap to check This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet.
15. Enter 216.155.165.050 in the Proxy server field.
16. Tap Advanced.
17. Tap HTTP.
18. Enter 8080 in the Port field.

I was able to configure mine just fine today, but I'll admit it took me a few tries in the past before I figured it out.
Go to Start --> Settings --> Connections tab --> Connections.
Since you're not using the standard T-Mobile ROM, just adapt the steps a bit to match up with what is on the WM6 ROM. Where it says T-Mobile GRPS in the instructions, actually use the My Work Network section on the device. You can also rename My Work Section to T-Mobile GRPS if you want.
Under that section, you should see:
Add a new modem connection
Add a new VPN server connection
Edit my proxy server
Other than the My Work Network/T-Mobile GPRS thing, the steps were exactly the same.
Oh yeah, instead of 216.165.155.050 enter 216.165.155.50.
I did that and I was able to get an Edge connection and send/receive MMS messages from my Verizon phone.

Hi.
When I goto Settings > Connection; "My Work" is no longer listed as a connection, only My Home.
How can i get back / add "My Work" ?
THanks.
Hmmm... I'm not sure. I have My ISP and My Work Network and I've always had that with the WM6 ROM's.
Dave
I know this is kind of buggy... I had the same issue.
If you add a new connection, call it My Work or something, and choose GPRS 3G for the type, and finish, it will put 2 connections, which will allow you to change between My Work Network again, etc. No registry hack needed, it's there, it's just not showing. By adding a 2nd connection, it will show your "My Work Network" again. Keep in mind, if you had MMS messaging, but no 'net until now, once the 'net works, you will have to change your MMS setting to "My Work Network" as well.
Now 'net and MMS works on my phone (Cingular 8525) on Tmobile, using only T-Zones and WM6 Thx for the help!
Hey guys, I have T-mo, and i use the 5.99 T-zone plan.
and since 7/18 I can't seem to connect to the internet anymore.
it says error 502 - Bad request.
does anyone know what's up?
thanks
so i'm the only one with this problem?
can someone tell me what could be wrong?
Are you using the proxy fix?
no.
It used to work without it.
Somewhere I read that there were still areas of the US that were still working with out it. I didn't figure it was true, but apparently it is if yours was working without it until now.
What you need to do is set up a new T-Mobile connection. If you use your internet over activesync for any reason you will need to have 2 different connections, 1 without the proxy (use this one over activesync) and 1 with the proxy (use this one over GPRS). Since you already have the one without the proxy, I would just leave that one as it is. To set up the one with the proxy, go to start-->settings-->connections tab-->connections and add a new modem connection. From there, on the first page that comes up change the My connections field to T-Mobile Data and change the select a modem field to cellular line (gprs) then click next. Now, in the access point name field put in wap.voicestream.com, click next and then finish. Now that you should be back to the connections main page, click manage existing connections under the new connection that you just made and then click the general tab and name it T-Mobile Proxy so you know which connection is which from now on. After that, click on the proxy settings tab and check the this network connects to the internet box and check this network uses a proxy.... In the proxy server field put in 216.155.165.50 and then click advanced. Tap the HTTP field and on the next page that comes up change the port to 8080. Click ok until you're back at the settings page again and then click the advanced tab. Click the Select Network button and change the top drop down menu to your new T-Mobile Proxy connection (actually, I usually change both drop down menu's in there to the T-M Proxy connection, but I don't use a VPN so it doesn't really matter). Click ok until your back to your today screen and you should be good to go from there.
Hope this helps. Sorry if you already knew how to add the proxy and everything but I figured even if you already knew how to do it there would probably be others out there that this would help that didn't know how.
Thanks, but after using the Proxy, I can finally get my emails.
but i can't use agile anymore. sigh..
I've never used agile, but if it gives you the option in the setting to choose what port you use, just change it to 8080. From what I've read, some messaging apps allow you to do that.
According to agiles faq page, that apparently isn't the case. It says that you can only use certain ports and 8080 isn't one of them.
so from now on, only 8080 port works?
I'm not sure what all port are closed as of recently. 8080 is open for sure though so I figured that would be the best place to start. If you go to the agile faq page it lists the ports that can be used for the various messengers and try changing the ports used and see what happens. From what I read on that page it does look like you have the option to change the ports, but it didn't say how to do it.
Despite extensive searching on this forum and others, I can't seem to find a CAB file for download that will auto-install operator settings for (UK) BT Mobile
Settings can be installed manually (as below), but can they be made into a CAB file for ease of use ? I'm not the first to ask ... so whoever does create one will be well respected !!
In settings, data connections, GPRS Connection, add the following, set up for WAP Network:
Name: BT Mobile
GPRS Access Point: btmobile.bt.com
User name: bt
Password: [none]
Do not enter any DNS or IP Address information.
Under the Proxy Connection, do the following:
Name: BT Proxy
"Connect from" Select WAP Network
"Connects to" The Internet
Proxy (Nameort): 212.183.137.12:8799
Type: HTTP
User name: bt
Password: [none]
In the Data Connections screen, Set the WAP Connection to BT Mobile.
Within Internet Explorer, turn off the "Automatically detect settings" option and specify connect by WAP Network.
Many Thanks

app made by schaps
works for me.
Thanks .. but it doesn't contain the settings for BT Mobile
It has all the other UK networks, but not the one I want (BT Mobile is a virtual network that piggybacks onto Vodafone - but as per usual it has different Proxys etc) ...
Still looking ...
Thanks
Mark
My brother also needs this as his company has just changed Operator. Any offers?
My Question is... Where (if possible) would i go to change network settings on an Android phone... I dont me WiFi.. I mean CDMA Network settings.... Settings that include the Username/Password used to connect to the Networks Internet
For verizon phones... Each has a specific Users Name and password for that account... Aswell as an ip Address to connect to the network with Port Number as well
Username: ____
Password:____
Ip Address
Primay ___:___:___:____
Secondary ___:___:___:___
Port: ___
Its for a Moto Droid (Verizon)... before on old Motorola Phones it use to be in the hidden WAP Settings dat was 0setup (073886) i think it was.. There it allowed you to change the homepage and login information for Internet Access.
Can i do something on Android that would allow me to change such settings?
I have HTC HD 7. Previously I had Tmobile and now i just bought Straight talk as my network provider. How can I set up APN so i can access data on my cell? I am able to make calls and sms, NOT MMS and internet? can someone help plz
Try HTC Connection Manager first. It should be in your HTC Marketplace. It should automatically set your gprs. In case it doesn't do that, ask info about APN from your provider so you can type it in manually.
Did you even try a single search? Like, "Set APN on WP7" or something?
Settings -> Cellular -> Network Selection / Add APN.
Alternatively, the Connection Setup app (as recommended by @hatuna; it's in the HTC Apps section of the Marketplace) should work just fine.
I am running into the same issues as OP. When I search for "Setting APN on WP7" the responses indicate the steps to edit / create APN's for the AT&T sim. For the T-Mo sim's, Straight Talk wants us to add Port information but no Proxy and WP7 won't let you save settings if you have a port # but no proxy value.
Try adding it as "my.apn.domainORT", like you would for a port on a web browser.
Alternatively, try using the proxy port, but setting the proxy name to the APN as well.
Finally (first, really), have you tried Connection Setup yet?
Finally managed to make it work. I used these settings :
APN - wap.tracfone
Proxy - 216.155.165.40
Port - 8080
Leave username and password blank.
I am getting 3G speeds with this setting.
I tried the HTC Connection manager but it doesn't have an option for StraightTalk. I did try Tracfone as an option but it didn't work.

Did you find that the Tracfone option reverted to T-Mobile USA after you selected Tracfone and returned back to HTC Connection Manager? Also, did you find a place for the MMSC: http://mms.tracfone.com setting?
